I left electronics sales job since 2008, but what i observed was - brand representatives in Nigeria do mix fake with original and sell. I knew Faouni for sure with LG products. It was so obvious with the rate of failure of LG products of all range (TV, Home theaters, AC, fridges, etc).
This deceit extended to generators and Laptops/computer country representatives too.
There is no easy way to figure out fake from original my dear - I once cross checked an item we bought from Fouani from LG's website and discovered it was not among listed LG' s models as at that time, but I found the model at Alibaba website in China. So Fouani must have ordered from China and requested them to brand it with LG label. This product started giving problem in a short time.
Suggestion; stick to sellers that offers and ho ours warranty and try and preserve your receipts and warranty cards for possible future claims.
I want to believe this practice still exists.

Sir, i welcome your contribution. Your experience, knowledge are yours and its great to share - no issues.

But at the end of the day, I am of the opinion that there is no better "person" to deal with than an OEM (LG, Panasonic, Midea etc) officially recognized distributor. Given the option to choose b/w an officially recognized dealer vs an unknown dealer in terms of product warranty claims, I will choose an officially recognized dealer.

For info, LG has manufacturing factories in South Korea (LG homebase), China, India etc..

Am still in thought Chief undecided

I don't blame some clients we come across saying;

- Install panels outside their roofs as carport/ swimming pool ports to avoid roof leakages , fire etc

- Install batteries , inverters outside the main building for similar fire reasons .

I've also come across several indoor installations running over the years without issues. Battery temperature sensor connected to ESS charge sources also need to be considered in most power system designs .
Guess lithium chemistry needs to be seriously studied especially now we've refurbished cells, substandard BMS et al hovering around the market esp in Nigeria . God help us

I don't think it has been established that it's the LFP "fault". What they have are hypothesis. There are several unknowns that need to be looked into. However it appears that's not going to happen anytime soon bc the scene is not safe for investigation to occur.

But you're right. For grade 1 safety conscious folks, eliminate any risk will supersede mitigating any risk. Unfortunately reality is that a lot of Nigerians have many constraints that make eliminating risks unviable.

Please is there much difference between LG inverter and LG Dual inverter AC?
Does the dual inverter truly saves upto 70% energy and how much energy does the ordinary inverter saves?

I want to buy LG inverter AC, so I like to know the difference between ordinary inverter and dual inverter, before choosing which one to buy?

Thanks

Dual is a newer technology. LG AC with dual inverter has twin rotary compressor while normal ones have single rotary compressor. The advantages include better efficency leading to better energy performance, quiter operations, less vibration, cools faster, more reliable than normal inverter (which is also good).

Dual is better than single inverter.

Good article but you didn’t suggest any midrange options.

Suggested are: Midea, Hisense, Thermocool (manufactured by Haier for PZ Industries and branded as Thermocool). I know these to be from original equipment manufacturers. Of course, there may be other brands but most of them are white label products. Not implicitly writing those off but prefer OEM brands because they spend money on R&grin and often have long term goals towards continous product growth.

Despite Nairaland knowing that there is only one Ohanaeze Ndigbo, led by well known businessman, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu, you guys keep publishing this fake story from an unknown Okechukwu Isiguzoro that nobody has hardly ever set eyes on

Nawah

My observation is that this is not unique to nairaland online personalities. Even some national or online print media appear to consistently present isiguzoro guy as "Ohaneze" despite knowing Ohaneze is only & currently led by Iwuanyanwu. This consistent mistake makes any objective observer wonder why this consistent misinformation persists.

Boss

Then why do AVS give room for adjustment of output voltage range?
What does that adjustment imply?

Something ain't clear

We're all learning though

Oga they are simply giving you the opportunity to choose what you want your input voltage range to be. Another manufacturer may just leave their AVS with the minimal and maximum voltage input range of 150v - 290v. That way you have nothing to select.

Another person with same AVS may decide that 180v - 260v input voltage suits his/her appliance and area.

It helps a lot

Meanwhile
Are you saying that 160v is enough to power an inverter AC functionally?

Oga sebi you say na AVS you get? Please re-read my messages.

Your Automatic Voltage Stabilizer (AVS) should be able to step up 160v to 230v. it falls within its design parameters (AVS).

Thank you bro

The voltage is my concern now

On the label of the AC, it's rated 220v-240v

The are all LG Dual Inverter ACS 1.5hp and some are 1hp.

So are you saying 160v is enough and advisable?

If so, does it mean in the case of voltage fluctuations, the AVS will maintain a stable output?

How is that possible when the output is set to range from 160-240v? And what woukd be thre stable output number?

Knowledge is power, so I'm trying to learn

Oga your AVS stands for automatic voltage stabilizer (unless otherwise described in your unit). A stabilizer ensures that it "stabilizes" the incoming voltage (within its operating range) to a predefined output voltage of 230v for the receiving appliance..

So yes, your AVS ensures your appliance is getting a constant voltage supply. If set to the suggested voltage range of 160v - 240v, your AVS will shut off supply of electricity to the connected appliance for voltages outside that range. If within the set operating range, it will either step up or step down the voltages to 230v.

I hope this helps.

Please what settings should I leave my AVS so that they will give my LG Dual Inverter ACs the best protection from power surges.
I've tried researching to no avail.

Wait time (ranging from 3 seconds to 10 minutes)

Output minimum voltage (ranges from 150v - 230v)
Output maximum voltage (ranges from 230v - 290v)

@Sacramento1212
@fashrola
@mangolpupa

Sir, look through your maintenance and operations manual of your AC unit and see if the advised what the waiting times should be in-b/w putting the unit on and off. If the did, that's what the wait time should be set as. In the absence of that information, I will recommend 5 mins. Note that this means that if they take light now and bring it back "immediately", it will take 5 mins before the unit (AC) is supplied electricity to start working again.

I would recommend 160V for minimum voltage & 240V for maximum voltage. This means that your AVS will accept voltage between 160v - 240v and stabilize it around 230v (educated guess as i dont have your manual) for your AC unit.

Hello Guys!

I intend to buy a 1/1.5hp inverter AC
And also deep freezer

Between Hisense or thermocool, which should I go for?

Happy sunday my oga. if you've had the privilege of going through this thread, you'll notice that you type of question has been asked many times and I dont see these type of questions ending any time soon, If there is no kind of objectivity applied.

The challenge I have about these questions are that the answers are to a greater degree very subjective. What do I mean? Someone here can rightly tell you now that hisense is better from his experience. Another person can also rightly tell you that Thermocool is better from his experience. And they both would not be lying. So what do you do?

This is why I am more inclined for us (anyone) to start asking questions of what a good AC should have first, with that knowledge we will all be making an informed choice and not solely rely on often used second hand information. Note: I am not rubbishing people experiences but using that as a measure of what is good/bad is unwise.

Now Hisense is a big AC chinese manufacturer. "Thermocool" is made by Haier corporation which is also a chinese manfacturer for PZ Industries. PZ assembles. So this is really a battle of chinese AC manufacturers. Personally, I would rate both products technically similar (within limits) with each other but the only reason I would tilt towards thermocool inverter is because of the on-the-ground after sales service you get with their products provided by the numerous PZ Industries service centers. . The really honor product warranties without wahala.

Presently, I dont think Hisense after sales service is as established as that of thermocool.

I hope this helps.

I often see the very understandable question of which AC is the best or better.

Yes some AC manufacturers have distinguished themselves in the market, but apart from materials, you are also paying a premium for the name brand. Infact companies have been known to sale their business separately and brand name separately. That how powerful and profitable a good brand name is.

The "best" is also a relative term. For eg. Daikin and Panasonic are great but that doesn't mean other AC are wrote-offs and will not provide long term service. The question we should be looking at is what is my budget and my requirements. for eg. If item A cost 500k (15yrs chilling no issues) and item B cost 250k (12yrs chilling no issues). You can see that item A though 2x cost of item B is not 2x the service life of item B. Which means that one can argue correctly that item B is the "best", since it averages 21k per year but item A averages 33k per year to do same cooling.

Apart from personal experience, we also rely alot of friends/family experiences which can be subjective. So I think to make the selection objective, some of the considerations for me will be:

1. Make sure the AC is 100% pure copper.
2. See if the fins(vents) of the outdoor unit has some kind of anti corrosion coating or made of a resilient material.
3. Check for how serviceable that brand is in Nigeria. Do the have a really functioning service center?

A cheaper AC doesn't necessarily mean an inferior product. There are many marketing reason a very good build AC may be coming in fairly priced. But don't get it twisted, there bound to be cheap and poor material AC out there hence the need to do some due diligence.

I recommend original panasonic, daikin, mitsubishi but if you can't get these, there other equally good mid tier AC manufacturers. They may not be popular and not be Japanese but they're good too.

Finally, whatever you end up with, be sure to treat it right. Carry out preventive maintain once in a while by cleaning your indoor/outdoor units properly as per maintenance manual. I had almost written off an AC I bought years back for not cooling but I technician I engaged looked at everything and concluded it need to be cleaned so it can "breathe". After the cleaning with so much dirt out, the AC started chilling again. Another mistake I notice is undersized your AC (putting 1.5hp or 1hp where it should be 2hp).

Get a gen technician to tune the voltage down for you before you enter sorry mode

Me, I know understand how your frequency is not "enough". Nigeria formally supplies 230v at 50hz . Most appliances in use in nigeria accept 50hz/60hz.

I concur with my other oga. 280v is high. So thank your stars your inverter is discriminating against that voltage. Please see if there is a way to regulate your generator output voltage to 220-230v.

You're right, I think

I'm hearing lots of positive reviews about some AC brands in recent times

Midea
Kenstar
Firman

Good that we're having good competition for LG. They've been monopolizing the medium range market after Panasonic

Very true, we as consumer benefits the most where there is competition in a free and fair market. Monopoly sinply kills innovation, and exploits us. This is true of any sector of our economy. Make I no mention names grin grin.

However I would argue that panasonic are actually positioned for the high end market segment and not medium end in Nigeria. Original Panasonic are easily 100k to 150k the price of the medium segment AC.

Have you seen Firman ACs?

How good are they?

I know their Generators are good, but I don't know about AC

Brotherly, I have not used them personally but second hand information says the AC are great. I have also received great feedback from some people I know about Midea inverter AC.

I do not know if they'll remain good products in future but my subjective assessment is that they will because

(1) Firman Sumec has established some good level of quality in the generator market, so there is a brand name to defend. Secondly it is a relatively new product in the inverter AC market so the quality/cost ratio is attractive. Once it establishes its quality, the prices are likely to creep up.

(2) Midea though a relatively new brand in Nigeria is one of the biggest AC manufacturers. Meaning they are into research, design, manufacturing and sales of their products. And may even be manufacturing for other private label companies. My prediction is that if they have a string distributor in Nigeria, it wont be long for people to begin to gravitate naturally towards it due to the attractive quality/cost ratio.

If the cost of LG dual cool is same or close to either Firman Sumec / Midea then go for LG dual cool. LG are more established, which translates to easily available parts, easily serviceable, local knowledge about how it works is abundant etc. should the need ever arise.

Please if you ever decide to get any of these products, make sure you get from main authorized distributor and company. Be vigilante, lots of fake products are in the market.

FYI Boss- There is lithium ion batteries and there is lithium ion phosphate batteries (lifepo4). The latter is safer and a better variation of the former.

Unfortunately people use them interchangeably without knowing they are not same though similar. Why you should know the difference is so you are not paying lifepo4 price for a lithium ion price. Lifepo4 is safer than lithium ion battery.

Sacramento1212 and other AC guru. I intend mounting my new inverter AC tomorrow. Someone said I should make sure they VACUM the AC because of air. So the performance will be good.

The problem is this is the first time I'm hearing about vacumming AC during installation and some of the technician here are saying they do not know what that is.

My friend said I should look for a professional to do it. He said it makes it cool well.

My question is, must the AC be VACUMMEd? I'm asking incase I do not get professionals to do the vacumming during installation.

Abi make I just go ahead mount am without doin the vacum thing

That person is right. Infact the recommended steps are to check the pressure on the lines and then vaccum the line.

However upon researching, some ac don't need to be vacuumed apparently due to their design.

There are lots of services which our technicians deliver to us which are subpar. It doesn't necessarily mean things won't work but it means at best, they won't work as well as designed or at worst, the will not reach the design product life.

Is it possible to ask your friend that made that suggestion to recommend an installer for you. He must have made that valuable suggestion from experience.
