Ogun's transformation and enduring legacies of a thought leader In the intellectual discourse of thought leadership and the appropriate denotation of a thought leader, two things are very key and they are: Unique Insights and Innovative Ideas. These two attributes distinguish a thought leader beyond rhetorics in every political setting. While machinery of government remains the product of politics and politicking, the only instrument of it's sustainability is good governance, which can only be achieved by a thought leader, who possesses distinct insights and innovative instincts about projects of profound impacts and of greatest benefits to the greatest number of people. Prince Dapo Abiodun, by all standards remains a thought leader in truth and indeed. Bringing to bear on governance the satisfactory knowledge of human and material resources management from the corporate word as a board room guru, who have successfully nurtured many industries from conception to fruition in the most competitive sectors. Many of his naysayers, out of chronic ignorance and sheer envy have expected him to fail and be overwhelmed by the humongous challenges Governor Dapo Abiodun met on ground upon assumption of office in 2019. Unfortunately for them, the Prince of Iperu frontally disappointed and disgraced them by his sterling performance. The construction of over 1600kms of roads across the 20 local governments in Ogun State, which is far beyond the combination of all what his predecessors have achieved in the past is a clear testament of how cynics of Abiodun's administration in the state have failed and disappointed, which forced them to resort to cheap propaganda to divert attention of the unsuspecting residents from excellent performance of the Governor. The construction of the Gateway International Airport by Governor Dapo Abiodun, turning a thick forest of over a decade to a world class edifice is another confirmation of unique leadership capacity of the Governor and his creative strength of transformation without noise. His penchant for improved economy through industrialization is highly commendable and examplary for other sub-national governments, as the state continues to maintain its status as the best state in Ease of Doing Business, with necessary infrastructure and conducive business environment. Of course, this status did not come in a vacuum, it was indeed the product of progressive policies of the government and relentless efforts of the helmsman for almost six years, changing the ugly past with determination and conviction and moving steadily ahead with confidence of a better future . These facts recently played out during a courtesy visit by the management team of Zenith Bank Plc to the office of the Governor located at Oke-mosan, Abeokuta, where the giant strides of the Dapo Abiodun's administration were well commended and acknowledged by the team, describing it as unprecedented transformation across the state. The delegation was led by the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the bank, Adaorah Umeoji and the Executive Director, Akin Ogunranti. Adaorah in her remarks applauded Governor Abiodun’s strides in infrastructure and economic development, noting that the visible improvements—particularly in road infrastructure—reflect purposeful and impactful governance. She said'', I enjoyed the drive down here greatly. It is on a smooth road. This is a testimony that the Governor is working. Thank you for what you are doing for the people of Ogun State. “We are looking for areas of collaboration. We are seeking ways of partnering with the state to impact the lives of the people. Ogun State is very dear to our hearts at Zenith Bank, and we are optimistic that this meeting will open a new chapter in our relationship,” she added. Also speaking, Ogunranti described the engagement as a long-awaited opportunity to deepen institutional ties with the state government. In a post-meeting interview, he described Ogun as receptive and business-friendly, attributing the influx of factories by many of the bank’s customers to the administration’s sustained investment in infrastructure. He commended the state government for its partnership over the years and pledged the bank’s continued support. “We appreciate the government for the partnership we have had over the years and look forward to other areas where we can support the state in achieving its goals and aspirations. We will support the great strides that the governor is making and the laudable projects he has undertaken to ensure that citizens enjoy the dividends of democracy,” he said. Welcoming the delegation , Governor Abiodun expressed appreciation for the bank’s willingness to expand its relationship with the state. He noted that Zenith Bank has maintained a longstanding partnership with Ogun and reaffirmed his administration’s openness to mutually beneficial collaborations. The governor proposed the establishment of a joint team comprising representatives of the bank and the state government to develop modalities for seamless and rewarding engagement. Highlighting Ogun State’s strategic advantages, Abiodun pointed to its proximity to Lagos, abundant natural resources, expanding infrastructure, and its position as Nigeria’s industrial hub. He disclosed that the state now boasts an airport, newly discovered oil deposits, and two proposed dry ports, alongside over 1,600 kilometers of completed and ongoing road projects. He added that his administration’s development blueprint, anchored on the ISEYA pillars, has positioned Ogun as a leading state in education, ease of doing business, and housing delivery, with about 7,000 housing units constructed in the past six years. Without mincing words, Governor Dapo Abiodun has proven to the world and most importantly his antagonists beyond reasonable doubt that capacity to deliver good governance goes beyond noise and bravado, it strictly predicates on critical thinking and selflessness, coupled with divine guidance. May God continue to guide and guard Prince Dapo Abiodun to do more for the people of Ogun State and Nigeria at large. Ajibola is a Senior Special Assistant on Strategic Communications to Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Abiodun Commissions Phase II of Imashayi–Igan-Okoto–Ayetoro Road, Pledges Completion of Final Phase The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Thursday commissioned Phase II of the Imashayi–Igan-Okoto–Ayetoro Road in Yewa North Local Government Area of the state, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to completing the final phase of the project. Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Governor Abiodun assured residents that the last phase of the road would be completed to fully connect the corridor to Ayetoro, thereby improving transportation and economic activities in the area. The governor also directed the Ministry of Housing to immediately inspect the Youth Development Centre in the local government area and commence work to renovate and upgrade the facility for the benefit of youths in the community. While acknowledging that his administration cannot reconstruct all roads across the state at once, Abiodun emphasized that his government would continue to deliver road infrastructure across the three senatorial districts until the end of his tenure. Describing Yewa North as one of the food baskets of the state, the governor said it was crucial to link farming communities with major towns to facilitate the movement of agricultural produce from farms to markets. Abiodun added that his administration remains committed to the infrastructural and economic development of Yewaland and Ogun West, noting that the area, which had long been neglected, is now receiving the attention it deserves. “Today, we have constructed over 20 road projects in Yewaland and Ogun West. While the number may not appear large, many of these roads are quite extensive and are equivalent to about six or seven roads in other senatorial districts. “For instance, the Agbara–Atan–Lusada Road is a dual carriageway expressway spanning about 20 kilometres, yet it counts as a single project. The same applies to the Ilaro–Owode Road and several other roads we are currently constructing, as well as those recently awarded and others that will soon be awarded," he said. The governor assured residents that his administration would continue to provide purposeful, impactful, and inclusive leadership through the implementation of both micro and macroeconomic policies. Abiodun also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as bold and far-reaching policies aimed at repositioning the nation’s economy, noting that the reforms were beginning to yield positive results. He specifically lauded the President for the ongoing construction of the 1,000-kilometre Badagry–Sokoto Highway, saying that when completed, it would significantly reduce travel time between Imeko and Lagos to less than one hour. “I want to thank Mr. President. If not for you, many states would have become insolvent. We appreciate the stability in fuel supply and the improving exchange rate. Today, Ogun State has become the investors’ destination of choice and the fastest-growing economy in Nigeria,” he said. In his remarks, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, explained that Phase II of the 21-kilometre Imashayi–Igan-Okoto–Ayetoro Road includes reinforced concrete structures in flood-prone areas to prevent erosion and flooding. He added that the project was divided into three phases to facilitate efficient construction. Akinsanya noted that the road serves as a major link between Ayetoro and other towns in the state, adding that its reconstruction has improved the movement of farm produce, enhanced service delivery, strengthened security, and improved the overall quality of life for residents. The Iyaloja General of Ogun State, Chief (Mrs.) Yemisi Abass, commended Governor Abiodun for fulfilling his promise to complete the second phase of the road, which he made during the commissioning of the first phase. She urged him to also complete the final phase to further boost development in the area. Similarly, the Chairman of Yewa North Local Government, Dr. Olusola Akinbode, praised the governor for the project, noting that the road would further support farmers in the area. He disclosed that the local government distributed 11,000 cash crop seedlings to farmers last year and plans to distribute about 30,000 cocoa, cashew, and palm seedlings this year. Also speaking, the member representing Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, commended the governor for fulfilling his promise to improve the lives of residents through infrastructure development. He described the reconstruction of the road as a major relief for communities along the corridor, noting that the road had been neglected by previous administrations. The Adokun of Igan-Okoto, Oba Mukaila Akanbi Salako, also expressed appreciation to Governor Abiodun for connecting the community to Ayetoro and appealed to him to ensure the completion of the third and final phase of the 21-kilometre Imashayi–Igan-Okoto–Ayetoro Road. |

Ogun Urgently Needs Yayi In the build up to the general elections of 2027 in Nigeria , there is a distinct political atmosphere in one of the federating units, the Gateway State, where sophistication and consciousness of the people remain unparalleled among equals. Of course , this rare development predicates on the degree of acceptability of one man, who is moving with precision to lead the state from 29th May of next year. As a meticulous financial guru, astute administrator and cerebral political juggernaut, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi is bringing a new leadership capacity to bear in the political environment of Ogun State, considering the unprecedented landmark achievements he has recorded within a shot period of time and the manner in which the people of the state are reciprocating the gesture. Since the profound benevolence of the Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District reverberates beyond his zone to every part of the 20 local governments of the State , so also the supports of the people towards his gubernatorial ambition. As a matter of fact, the call of the people across the state to have Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as the next Governor of the State is far more huge than the ambition of the man himself. Political analysts have argued severally that the level of acceptability Senator Yayi enjoys across Ogun State is bringing a new dimension to the political enclave of the state, insisting that no politician dead or alive has enjoyed such in the political history of Ogun State since 1976. Meanwhile, many factors contributed to the popularity of the man popularly called Yayi. This is a politician that had painstakingly studied the art of governance from a deep ideologically driven school of political thought in Lagos, under the tutelage of the leading political leader in Africa, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, (GCFR). As inclusive and compassionate leadership remains the hallmark of Asiwaju, so also the leadership style of Senator Yayi, who triumphantly made indelible impacts in Lagos as responsive and responsible public office holder before coming home to reciprocate same in the most amazing manner. As it stands, the people of Ogun State can not wait a second to have Yayi as their next Governor come 29th May, 2027, the gubernatorial election in Ogun State will go down in history as an affirmation of sort and a consensus among the people on the candidacy of Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi. First Cargo Plane From Europe to Land at Gateway International Airport Soon – Abiodun Cargo operations are set to commence at the Gateway International Airport within the next 30 to 45 days, with the first cargo aircraft from Europe expected to land at the facility. Governor Dapo Abiodun made this known during an on-the-spot assessment of work at the Industrial Platform, Remo Free Trade Zone, located along the Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode Expressway on Thursday. The Industrial Platform, Remo, is the Special Agro-Processing Zone project situated between Iperu and Ilishan. Conceived toward the tail end of the COVID-19 pandemic, the initiative is designed to drive agro-industrial development and position Ogun State as a leading processing and export hub. Abiodun disclosed that the access road linking the Sagamu–Benin Expressway directly to the airport would soon be opened to the public, describing it as a critical piece of infrastructure aligned with global best practices. “This road tees off from the Sagamu–Benin Expressway and leads straight to the airport,” the governor said. “In line with global best practices, an airport road cannot be winding or meandering; it must run straight from the main highway to the airport. This road connects directly to the airport and also passes through the processing zone, enabling people to see the level of activity within the zone.” He explained that the concept of the project was originally introduced to his administration by the African Development Bank and was subsequently refined into what is now known as the Industrial Platform. Governor Abiodun expressed optimism about commissioning the first of the processing companies within the next few months, noting that several firms have already commenced construction of their facilities. During the inspection, he also toured a 6,800-square-metre warehouse under construction and commended the rapid pace of development within the zone. According to the governor, the administration deliberately created an integrated ecosystem where agricultural production and processing coexist within a shared facility to enhance efficiency and value addition. He disclosed that the free trade zone would feature a dedicated power supply, waste management systems, an independent administrative framework, and robust security architecture. The governor further revealed that the zone is expected to host what he described as the world’s largest cotton garment processing factory, which he said would significantly boost employment and industrial activity. “What is a Special Agro-Processing Zone? It is a designated expanse of land dedicated to converting agro-raw materials into finished goods. You can liken it to a shopping mall of processing companies,” he said. He added that Ogun State partnered with a firm that has successfully implemented similar projects in the Benin Republic, Lomé, Côte d’Ivoire, and other African countries, a collaboration he described as the Ogun State–Arise relationship that birthed the Industrial Platform. Governor Abiodun also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support through the Federal Ministries of Agriculture and Industry, noting that transformative projects such as the free trade zone are unlocked by sound macroeconomic policies. He emphasized that when properly implemented, such policies create employment opportunities, stimulate industrial growth, and ultimately translate into improved economic prosperity for individual households.

Abiodun's revolution in education and the new era of academic excellence in Ogun By Olaniyi Ajibola The declaration of emergency in education sector of Ogun State by Governor Dapo Abiodun upon assumption of office in 2019 immediately became a topic of discussion around the state, considering what the previous administrations had claimed to have achieved in the sector, especially the immediate past administration, however, critical stakeholders in the sector have objectively described the condition of schools in Ogun State as pathetic and comprehensively terrible as at 2019. With his pedigree as a son of teachers, Governor Dapo Abiodun possesses the satisfactory knowledge of standard and functional education system, the one with futuristic potency of yielding academic excellence and not the caricature arrangement that merely meant for political expediency, hence, the necessity for declaration of emergency in the sector. The Governor, working strategically with a leading academic and erudite scholar, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, came up with a sound agenda as compass for intervention, embedded in six pillars and encompassing far-reaching reforms covering curriculum development, school management, technology and innovation, infrastructure, funding, and students’ and teachers’ welfare. Addressing swiftly the shortfall in human resources in the sector, Governor Abiodun initiated 'Ogun Teach' where thousands of teachers were recruited first as temporary staff and later permanently engaged based on performance, thereby strengthening the quality of education in all schools across the state. This robust education reforms under the administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun also focuses on digitising, restructuring and improving the quality of it's over 2000 public schools in the 20 local governments of Ogun State, with key initiatives consisting of OgunLEARN, AI-powered platform for digital learning, the Ogun State Education Revitalisation Agenda (Oxera) , and the introduction of mandatory reading to instill reading culture in students and ultimately boost literacy. In the words of Malcom-X, the late black American social crusader and great thinker, " Education is the passport to the future because the future belongs to those who prepare for it today''. It is this consciousness, coupled with his background that informed the reforms Governor Abiodun embarked upon in Ogun education sector, the initiative that has started yielding positive results of monumental dimension. One of those positive results of revolution Governor Dapo Abiodun initiated in the education sector of Ogun State is Mr. Solanke Francis Taiwo, a primary school teacher at Ansa-Ur-Deen Main School 1, KemtaLawa, Abeokuta, who emerged as the Overall Best Primary School Teacher in Nigeria for 2025/2026 academic session. The teacher was recently rewarded by Governor Dapo Abiodun in his office at Oke-mosan Abeokuta, where a 2-bedroom bungalow was offered him at any location of his choice around the state under the State Housing Scheme, as well as presentation of keys for a brand-new car donated by the Federal Government, which came after he had earlier received a cash award of ₦50 million from the Federal Government at the National Teachers’ Summit in Abuja in recognition of his outstanding performance and dedication to education. Governor Abiodun made the presentation in the presence of the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbagbu, and the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs. Oloko, as he reiterated his administration’s commitment to continuous training and retraining of teachers through workshops, seminars, digitisation initiatives, and AI-powered teaching platforms. In his brief remarks, Prof. Arigbagbu described the feat as a confirmation of the governor’s sustained investment in education and the impact of ongoing reforms in the sector. “When you do things consistently and efficiently, you will definitely continue to get results. We have been winning the Best Teacher Award back-to-back. This same teacher won in October and has now emerged as the overall best teacher in Nigeria. “This administration has done so much across all the pillars. The declaration of emergency in the education sector led to far-reaching reforms covering curriculum development, school management, technology and innovation, infrastructure, funding, and students’ and teachers’ welfare,” he said. According to the commissioner, the consistent national recognition of Ogun teachers and students is evidence that the reforms are yielding tangible results. “It shows that when we say someone has emerged as the best teacher, it is not by chance or manipulation. It confirms that the entire education sector has been revitalised. "We will continue on this path until the end of this administration. Ogun State is number one in education, and we cannot afford to go backwards,” he said. Highlighting the state’s performance in external competitions, Prof. Arigbagbu recalled Ogun’s dominance in the JETS competitions, where students from the state won 18 out of 24 available awards in one year, with a single student clinching nine of those awards, attributing the success to sustained attention to the sector over the past six years. On the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sub-sector, he revealed that five states have indicated interest in understudying Ogun’s model, particularly in TVET and the digitisation of education. He added that the Federal Government and the National Board for Technical Education have commended the state’s achievements. Dapo Abiodun, 2027 and the antics of a drowning politician By Gbeleyi Emmanuel In Nigeria, groups emerge as political desperation dictates. And that's a why it is no surprise that something called Human Global Resource Initiative has approached the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court, seeking a restraining order against INEC, SSS, and APC from fielding Governor Dapo Abiodun for any elective office in 2027. Pray when did the DSS start fielding candidates for elections? But that's by the way. The group, an outgrowth of the leprous fingers of a drowning senator, alleges that Abiodun submitted fake academic records and made false declarations on his INEC forms. This, then, is the basis for its quest for a perpetual injunction restraining INEC from considering Abiodun as a candidate, and a declaration that Abiodun's contradictions amount to false declaration and violations of the Constitution and Electoral Act. Given that these are issues already decided by the courts, it is not hard to see that this is gross abuse of the court process. But the perpetrators are decidedly shameless. Abuse of court process means using the legal system in a way that is improper or dishonest, frivolous or malicious in order to harass, delay, intimidate, or gain unfair advantage. It is patently unlawful, and the political pirate behind the latest expedition knows it. He belongs to the cast of damnable charcters filing repeated lawsuits on the same issue just to harass their opponent, manipulating legal technicalities to obstruct justice. To him, wasting the court's time and public resources and undermining trust in the legal system--and potentially delaying justice for those who really need it---is all well and good, so long as he gets a mention in the newspapers. You see, you cannot rescue a pig from the mire; it lives in it by natural instinct. And that's why the author of the shenanigan is littering the public space with the same talking points that previously led to a dead end. Following the victory of the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, at the May 29, 2019 governship polls, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) littered the public space with a salad of allegations, but failed to prove them from the Elections Petitions Tribunal right up to the Supreme Court. When the Governor was re-elected in 2023, much to the chagrin of the jealous charlatan behind the current comedy, the same cycle of allegations and legal rebuttal followed. And just so we are clear: the author of the latest blackmail and his hired minions have a right to disgrace themselves in the court of law, the court of public opinion and the 2027 polls. Threatened by the Governor's rising profile and the reality that he may not get a 2027 senatorial ticket, this detestable individual has unleashed a barrage of attack dogs, including amorphous civil society groups, calling the Governor any name they choose. Fear and desperation have crystallized into a frenzy. Just how can anyone with a basic understanding of law ask a Federal High Court to re-litigate an issue already laid to rest by the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court? Governor Abiodun retains the right to participate in the 2027 general election as far as the laws of Nigeria allow him to do, and anyone seeking to circumscribe his constitutionally guaranteed rights is merely chasing shadows. The authors of the latest blackmail are desperate clowns who know that they have no moral or legal ground to stand on, but are merely seeking a mention in the newspapers. If anything, the brain behind the exercise is mentioned in the stories circulating online, and it is sufficiently clear that this is a drowning politician desperately clutching at straws, having realised that his 2027 ambition has exploded in his face following his acts of subversion, treachery and blackmail against the same Governor who rescue him from political and financial ruin, and the party that brought him out of political oblivion. For the avoidance of doubt, there was no controversy whatsoever in Governor Abiodun's nomination forms, and the pronouncements of the courts on the matter are a matter of public record. But the individual in question is notorious for hating peace and wanting "problems always." He thrives in chaos. The Ogun people know which politician made their state a pariah among the comity of states in Nigeria. They know the fella whose last four years as governor was full of trouble; the man whose own press secretary accused him of orchestrating several assassinations, and of planning to murder him. They know the man who fought state lawmakers and caused their nudes to be published in the newspapers, putting Ogun State in utter disgrace and peril. They know the man who called himself emperor and turned their state into a theatre of war and brigandage. They know the devious character who left government in ignominy and could not enter Ogun State in eight years. Today, because he believes his own lies, this buffoon is saying he transformed Ogun State. Now here's a challenge: let him mention one road that he did that has endured. Mr Desperation was suspended from the ruling party because he worked against the party. Full stop. He is likely to seek refuge in another party to contest the 2027 election. He knows he is toast, and is desperately clutching at straws. That's what you get for betraying your benefactor and repaying good with evil.

Dapo Abiodun vs Gbenga Daniel : Two Politicians of Opposite Characters Recent attempts on social media to draw comparisons between Prince Dapo Abiodun and former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, have sparked renewed debate about leadership styles, performance records, and political legacies in Ogun State. While political comparisons are inevitable in a democracy, many observers argue that any serious evaluation must be grounded in measurable outcomes, governance philosophy, and long-term impact rather than partisan rhetoric. Governance Philosophy and Credibility Supporters of Governor Abiodun maintain that his leadership since 2019 has been defined by measured promises and deliberate implementation. They argue that he avoids grand declarations that cannot be executed and point to infrastructure expansion and economic reforms as evidence of policy consistency. In contrast, critics of Daniel’s administration have often questioned the scale and sustainability of some projects executed between 2003 and 2011, arguing that certain initiatives did not achieve enduring structural impact. On infrastructure, for instance, Abiodun’s administration has repeatedly cited the construction and rehabilitation of over 1,600 kilometers of roads across Ogun State. Supporters contrast this with figures previously announced during Daniel’s tenure, questioning their visibility and durability. These competing claims remain part of the broader political narrative surrounding both administrations. Political Experience and National Relevance Prince Dapo Abiodun’s political involvement dates back to the aborted Third Republic, and he became more prominent during the early years of the Fourth Republic. He was widely regarded as an ally of former President Olusegun Obasanjo during that period. Otunba Gbenga Daniel, on the other hand, rose to prominence with his successful gubernatorial bid in 2003, serving two consecutive terms as governor of Ogun State. Both men, therefore, have longstanding political histories, though their pathways into prominence differed. Infrastructure and Economic Projects A frequently cited example in the comparison between both administrations is the Gateway International Airport. The airport project was initially conceptualized during Daniel’s tenure in 2006 but remained undeveloped for years. Under Governor Abiodun, the project was revived and completed, becoming operational and positioned as a strategic economic asset intended to boost trade, logistics, and regional connectivity. Supporters describe this as symbolic of the difference in project execution between the two administrations. Political Stability and Investment Climate Backers of Governor Abiodun argue that his tenure has emphasized political engagement, stability, and investor-friendly reforms, contributing to Ogun State’s strong industrial profile. Ogun remains one of Nigeria’s leading manufacturing destinations due to its proximity to Lagos and deliberate industrial policies pursued across administrations. Critics of Daniel’s era, meanwhile, have previously alleged that political tensions during parts of his tenure affected governance dynamics. However, assessments of security and stability during both administrations remain subject to political interpretation. Ease of Doing Business and State Reputation Ogun State has in recent years received recognition in subnational rankings relating to ease of doing business, regulatory reform, and investment climate improvements. Supporters attribute these gains to reforms implemented since 2019, including streamlined processes and infrastructure support. Conclusion The comparison between Prince Dapo Abiodun and Otunba Gbenga Daniel ultimately reflects broader debates about governance style, policy execution, and political temperament in Ogun State. While supporters of Governor Abiodun portray him as embodying the Omoluabi ethos—measured, deliberate, and reform-driven—others continue to defend aspects of Daniel’s tenure as foundational in certain sectors. As with all democratic evaluations, legacies are shaped not only by political narratives but also by measurable development outcomes and the judgment of the electorate. In the end, it is the people of Ogun State who will continue to define how history remembers both leaders.

Ogun Introduces Additional Pension Benefit to Address CPS Concerns The Ogun State Government has introduced an Additional Pension Benefit (APB) as part of measures to address concerns raised by stakeholders following the full implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) in the state. The initiative, approved by the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, was announced in a communiqué issued after a series of consultative meetings between representatives of organised labour, members of the State and Local Government Pension Administration Committees, and the Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser, Dapo Okubadejo. The CPS became fully operational in Ogun State on July 2, 2025. Stakeholders described the APB as an innovative and sustainable mechanism designed to prevent pension crises and strengthen confidence in the CPS. According to the communiqué, the APB is a one-off payment at retirement aimed at bridging gaps identified between the CPS and the former Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS), particularly regarding gratuity. The benefit will be calculated using graded percentages of a retiree’s Final Total Annual Emolument (TAE), based on years of qualifying service. Eligible retirees will receive between 116 percent and 280 percent of their final annual emolument as an additional benefit, depending on length of service. The payment will be made directly to retirees at the point of exit, while balances in their Retirement Savings Accounts (RSAs) will be preserved to strengthen monthly pension payments. The communiqué highlighted the state government’s financial interventions in the pension sector, noting that ₦26.35 billion has been expended to offset outstanding gratuity liabilities, alongside the commencement of amortisation of accrued gratuity arrears dating back to July 2012. It also disclosed that ₦5.89 billion has been remitted as arrears of CPS deductions and accrued returns on investment, while ₦500 million has been paid as death benefits into the RSAs of deceased retirees. In addition, the government has commenced remittance of accrued pension rights for eligible employees. “Regular monthly remittances of employer and employee contributions into Retirement Savings Accounts began in July 2025, and as of January 2026, total remittances stood at ₦3.19 billion. These steps reflect Government’s unwavering resolve to build confidence in the CPS and entrench transparency and accountability in pension administration,” the communiqué stated. Beyond pension payments, stakeholders urged the government to leverage national pension assets for infrastructure development and affordable mortgage financing. Under the CPS framework, contributors may access up to 25 percent of their RSA balance as equity contribution toward residential mortgages, expanding home ownership opportunities for public servants. The communiqué further recommended strengthening engagement with Pension Fund Administrators through more responsive communication channels, including toll-free lines, enhanced pre-retirement training programmes, publication of comprehensive Frequently Asked Questions on the CPS, and periodic electronic verification exercises to maintain accurate retiree records. Stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that pension reforms in Ogun State balance workers’ welfare with long-term fiscal sustainability.

Ogun Road Infrastructure: Unveiling Dapo Abiodun's Clarity of Purpose By Olaniyi Ajibola There is an unimpeachable consensus among critical stakeholders in Ogun State and beyond about the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on his innate capacity and cognitive strength to understand and prioritise his goals with precision. In total departure from the past, Dapo Abiodun consciously and genuinely devised strong concept of action, popularly known as ISEYA, which encompasses Infrastructure, Social Welfare, Education, Youth Empowerment and Agriculture as mental compass to streamline the decision -making process of his administration and boost motivation as well as eliminating wasted effort by focusing energy on essentials. There is no doubt that the greatest essential at the point the administration in Ogun State came on board in 2019 was road infrastructure, as majority roads across the 20 local governments, totalling 4000 kilometres were in deplorable and pitiable conditions, suggesting reckless abandon by previous administrations. Notwithstanding, Prince Dapo Abiodun, upon assumption of office hit the ground running with determination and political will to change the ugly trend in road infrastructure, promising an equal intervention in all the senatorial districts without bias and sentiment, the pledge he has consistently kept in the last six years of his administration. While unrepentant antagonists of his government remained in the dark with skepticism and destructive criticism, Dapo Abiodun was in the field making history with enduring and remarkable projects. Where his naysayers see opportunity for propaganda, the Governor sees grace to write his name in gold in the sand of time. Meanwhile, of paramount and distinct effort of Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration in road infrastructure is the zeal in which he reconstructed terrible Federal roads and abandoned roads in border communities, especially between Ogun and Lagos States. These roads remained a nightmare for residents and motorists alike for decades before 2019 when Governor Abiodun assumed office, but immediately became reasons for negative comments about his administration in the conventional and social media. However, the Governor moved with precision and continued to address this menace aggressively and in the most commendable manner, which has elicited commendations from friends and foes of the administration across board. While commissioning the Lantoro-Oke-Yidi-Isale Ake junction road in Abeokuta South Local Government Area on Thursday, Governor Abiodun proudly announced in his address that his administration has constructed the total of 1650kms of roads in the last six years, making it the highest since the creation of the state in 1976 and far more than what all the previous administrations before him have collectively achieved in totality. He described the Lantoro–Oke-Yidi–Isale Ake Junction Road as part of a deliberate infrastructure drive aimed at deepening connectivity and economic growth across Ogun Central Senatorial District, adding that his administration has now completed 29 roads in Ogun Central alone in the past six years, as he disclosed that 10 additional road projects currently under construction would be unveiled in the coming weeks, bringing the total to 39. He announced that work would also commence immediately on the reconstruction of the Carwash–Moore Junction Road, also in Abeokuta South, reinforcing the strategic importance of the state capital as the administrative and political hub of Ogun State. “In the last six years in Ogun Central, we have constructed 29 roads. They were selected through our participatory and inclusive governance approach. Our kabiyesi, including the Alake of Egbaland, Muslim faithful, Christian clergy, market men and women, among others, all sat together to determine which roads were most critical and should be prioritised". While reiterating the resolve of his administration to remain focused on performance despite campaign of calumny by political merchants in the payroll of desperate politicians, he promised that more projects would be commissioned between now and July, as he described the Lantoro–Oke-Yidi–Isale Ake Road as a critical artery within the state capital. Governor Abiodun explained that the road would provide access to key institutions including Sacred Heart Hospital, the School of Nursing and the Muslim praying ground, while also serving as an alternative route linking major parts of the city. Earlier in the week, the government in the state has announced that the administration is working towards completing at least 2,000 kilometres of roads before the end of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s tenure. The Commissioner for Works, Ade Akinsanya, made this known during an appearance on Sunrise Daily, where he explained that road construction is currently ongoing across all 20 local government areas of the state. According to Akinsanya, the administration inherited over 4,000 kilometres of bad roads and deliberately set out to tackle the challenge through a statewide infrastructure strategy focused on rural connectivity, food security corridors, economic hubs and access to schools. “We are talking about thousands of kilometres of bad roads, and as of today, we have completed more than 1,600 kilometres across the state and we are not concentrating on one area alone — work is ongoing in all 20 local governments.” He highlighted major projects including the reconstruction of the 70-kilometre Ota–Abeokuta road, as well as extensive works in Ado-Odo/Ota, Ifo and Akute areas. Akinsanya noted that previously impassable roads such as Ajuwon–Akute, Alhaji Kosoko–Akute and Yakoyo–Alagbole have now been fully rehabilitated, significantly improving movement between Ogun and neighbouring Lagos communities. The Commissioner added that construction is progressing steadily from Ota through Akute to Ijoko, with several sections already completed and others actively under development. As Donald McGannon puts it'', Leadership is action, not position''. The leadership capacity of Prince Dapo Abiodun is too loud and conspicuous to be ignored irrespective of social and political affiliations; his clarity of purpose remains legendary as his name is written in gold in the consciousness of all. Ogun Govt Warns Residents Against Roadside Trading After Fatal Ota Accident The Ogun State Government has cautioned residents against indiscriminate roadside trading, describing the practice as dangerous and a major contributor to avoidable accidents. The warning followed a recent crash at the tollgate area of Ota in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, which claimed several lives and led to the destruction of property. Speaking during an on-the-spot assessment of the accident scene on behalf of Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, said street trading exposes citizens to unnecessary risks and makes them vulnerable to tragic incidents. She noted that the state government had provided market stalls and designated trading areas to ensure safer commercial activities, adding that it was disturbing that some residents still preferred to trade along busy highways. “While accidents can happen, we must adopt behavioural practices that significantly reduce their occurrence and impact. We are calling on our people to desist from street trading for their own safety,” she said. Salako-Oyedele, who described the incident as particularly painful because it occurred in her homestead, extended the condolences of the Ogun State Government to families affected by the tragedy. She assured that surviving victims would receive adequate care, while the government continues to implement preventive measures to forestall similar occurrences. The deputy governor also commended the swift response of the Olota of Ota, Abdulkabir Adeyemi Obalanlege, the leadership of the local government council, operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), and road unions for promptly managing the situation. In his remarks, the Olota of Ota condemned roadside trading, saying the loss of lives could have been avoided if residents had adhered to repeated warnings against the practice. He commiserated with the families of the deceased and prayed for the repose of their souls. The state government reiterated its commitment to enforcing regulations that promote public safety and urged residents to patronise approved markets and trading centres across the state. |
Abiodun Condemns Reckless Driving, Orders Probe into Ota Toll Gate Tragedy The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has strongly condemned the reckless driving habits of some truck operators plying the Sango–Ota corridor, following a fatal accident at the Ota Toll Gate area that claimed seven lives. The crash, which involved a trailer tanker reportedly affected by brake failure, resulted in the deaths of six men and one woman. Two other victims — a male and a female — sustained critical injuries and are currently receiving medical attention. In total, nine persons were involved in the tragic incident. Describing the development as painful and unacceptable, the Governor said the loss of innocent lives due to preventable negligence is one too many. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for strength and comfort for them during this difficult period. Governor Abiodun has directed an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident, stressing that anyone found culpable must face the full weight of the law. He also called for heightened vigilance and stricter traffic enforcement by the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps to prevent a recurrence along the busy corridor. In a related development, the Executive Chairman of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Lawal Adewale Wasiu visited the scene shortly after the incident alongside key local government officials, where he received briefings from security operatives coordinating rescue and control efforts. The Chairman expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and reiterated the need for strict adherence to traffic regulations. He also cautioned against roadside trading and other risky activities that expose residents and commuters to avoidable danger, assuring that the council would collaborate closely with relevant agencies to strengthen safety compliance within the axis. The Ogun State Government reaffirmed its resolve to intensify road safety enforcement and protect lives and property across the state. e-signed Kayode Akinmade Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to the Governor

Ogun Clears Eight-Year Pension, Gratuity Backlog — Finance Commissioner The Ogun State Government has announced the clearance of pension and gratuity arrears owed to workers who retired between 2012 and 2020, reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of retirees. The Economic Adviser and Commissioner for Finance, Dapo Okubadejo, disclosed this on Tuesday during a media parley organised by the Ogun State Ministry of Budget and Planning. Okubadejo explained that the backlog was linked to the Defined Benefits Scheme, under which retirees receive monthly pension payments, stressing that the present administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun has not defaulted on pension obligations since assuming office. “Since the inception of this administration, we have not missed a single month of pension payment. What we inherited were arrears tied to the Defined Benefits Scheme,” he said. According to him, annual pension payments rose from ₦6.7 billion in 2019 to ₦20 billion in 2025, with projections showing a possible increase to ₦40 billion by 2029. He disclosed that the state had so far paid ₦23.3 billion in gratuities covering retirees from 2012 to 2020, alongside ₦32.8 billion in outstanding gratuities for local government retirees inherited by the administration. Okubadejo added that between 2019 and July 2, 2025, the state disbursed ₦93.26 billion in pensions under the Defined Benefits Scheme and ₦94.78 billion to local government pensioners. He assured that the remaining backlog would be cleared as Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) continues to improve, noting that over 300 workers who retired in July 2025 are currently receiving six-month palliatives pending the completion of their pension documentation. The commissioner also described the newly approved Additional Pension Benefits (APB) as the first of its kind in Nigeria, adding that amendments to the state’s pension law would be pursued to formally integrate the scheme. On the state’s fiscal outlook, Okubadejo revealed that the 2026 budget increased from ₦1.054 trillion in 2025 to ₦1.668 trillion, while Ogun’s economy expanded from ₦3.5 trillion in 2019 to ₦18.96 trillion in 2026. He added that IGR grew from ₦50 billion in 2019 to ₦240 billion in 2025, with projections of ₦512 billion this year. Also speaking, the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Olaolu Olabimtan, said the 2026 budget reflects strong fiscal reforms, noting an 85 per cent budget execution rate in 2024 and sustained financial stability. Other commissioners highlighted sectoral achievements, including massive road construction, increased healthcare funding, rail extension plans, education support programmes, and expanded housing projects across the state.

Abiodun described the achievement as a testament to the steady growth of sports development in the state, stressing that his administration remains committed to recognising excellence. He disclosed that all training allowances, participation allowances and contractual fees owed athletes and officials had been fully settled. The governor also approved special financial support for technical officials, announcing ₦10 million for coaches through the Director of Coaching and ₦14.8 million for participating officials via the Director of Administration and Supply. He expressed appreciation to sports administrators, private sector partners and other stakeholders for supporting the growth of sports in the state. Looking ahead to the next National Sports Festival in Enugu, the governor urged athletes to remain focused and encouraged aspiring talents to participate in open trials and development programmes. He congratulated Team Ogun for making the state proud and reaffirmed his administration’s continued investment in sports development.

Ogun Targets 2,000km of Road Construction Before End of Abiodun’s Tenure The Ogun State Government has disclosed that it has constructed over 1,600 kilometres of roads since 2019 and is working towards completing at least 2,000 kilometres before the end of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s tenure. “We are talking about thousands of kilometres of bad roads, and as of today, we have completed more than 1,600 kilometres across the state,” he said. “We are not concentrating on one area alone — work is ongoing in all 20 local governments.” He highlighted major projects including the reconstruction of the 70-kilometre Ota–Abeokuta road, as well as extensive works in Ado-Odo/Ota, Ifo and Akute areas. Also speaking on the programme, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, defended the administration’s infrastructure drive, stressing that road projects are being evenly distributed across the state. “When the governor assumed office in 2019, he promised to democratise infrastructure across all local governments, and that is exactly what is happening,” Akinmade said. “The 16 kilometres being referenced in one axis is just a fraction of the roads delivered statewide.” He added that several roads have recently been commissioned in Abeokuta and other towns, noting that infrastructure development remains a central focus of the administration despite population pressure arising from Ogun State’s proximity to Lagos. Akinmade urged critics to acknowledge the broader scope of ongoing projects, describing claims that little or nothing has been achieved as unfair and misleading. Together, the officials reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming road infrastructure across Ogun State, with the target of reaching at least 2,000 kilometres of completed roads before the administration winds down.

Tinubu’s Reforms Have Rescued Nigeria, Says Abiodun as Ogun APC Endorses President for Second Term Abeokuta, Ogun State — Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Wednesday praised the economic reforms initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing them as bold decisions that rescued Nigeria from economic collapse and set the nation on the path of sustainable growth. Abiodun spoke at the Expanded Stakeholders Strategic Meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held in Abeokuta, where party leaders across the state unanimously endorsed President Tinubu for another term in office. Commending the president’s leadership, the governor said Tinubu demonstrated courage and clarity by confronting long-standing economic distortions, particularly the removal of fuel and foreign exchange subsidies. “At a time when the economy had severely nosedived, our president rose with courage, conviction and clarity to take hard but necessary decisions aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable development,” Abiodun said. He recalled comments recently made by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, who described Tinubu’s reforms as the greatest enabler of Nigeria’s economic recovery. “Many of us thought fuel subsidy was the worst burden, but in reality, the foreign exchange subsidy — the multiple exchange rate system — was the bigger monster. On May 29, 2023, Mr President removed both, and that marked the beginning of genuine reforms,” he said. According to Abiodun, the impact of the reforms is already evident, citing improved fuel availability, declining inflation, a stabilising naira, renewed investor confidence and foreign reserves now standing at about $45 billion. He also highlighted major infrastructure projects initiated by the president, including the 700-kilometre coastal highway and the 1,000-kilometre Sokoto–Badagry superhighway, noting that Nigeria is once again attracting investors. “Foreign flights are now full of investors coming into the country. In Ogun State today, you cannot move 100 metres without seeing a new factory,” he said, adding that the World Bank recently rated Nigeria as a benchmark for economic recovery. Speaking on party unity, Abiodun expressed satisfaction with the turnout at the strategy meeting, describing it as a demonstration of the APC’s strength, cohesion and relevance. “The strength of the APC has always been anchored on unity and fairness. A united APC is an unbeatable APC,” he said, urging leaders to continue closing ranks. The governor also announced plans by his administration to build a befitting APC secretariat in the state within six months. Reflecting on his administration’s achievements, Abiodun listed major strides in infrastructure, housing, healthcare, job creation, youth and women empowerment, noting that over 7,000 housing units and several primary healthcare centres have been delivered across the state. “Only yesterday, NNPCL commenced commercial oil drilling in Ogun Waterside. Our GDP now stands at ₦17 trillion. These achievements are not accidental; they are products of careful planning and vision,” he said. He added that Ogun State is now ranked among Nigeria’s top-performing states and is often compared only with Lagos in terms of economic growth and development. Abiodun further pledged to ensure a smooth and transparent transition to a successor when his tenure ends, while again commending President Tinubu for his consistent support for Ogun State. “There is nothing I have asked of Mr President for Ogun State that he has not approved,” he said, disclosing that plans are underway to establish the largest dairy and cattle ranch in Ipokia Local Government Area and Yewa South through federal support. Describing the endorsement of Tinubu as both strategic and deserved, Abiodun said extending the president’s mandate would allow ongoing reforms to be consolidated and sustained through 2031. The meeting was attended by serving and former senators, members of the House of Representatives, the Ogun State Executive Council, party leaders from the National Working Committee, council chairmen, ward executives, former commissioners, liaison officers and other APC stalwarts across the state.

NNPCL Team Inspects Eba Oil Well as Ogun Moves Closer to Commercial Drilling Abeokuta, Ogun State — A technical team from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has visited the Eba oil well in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area as preparations advance for the commencement of commercial drilling operations in the state. The inspection followed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval for commercial exploration and forms part of the Federal Government’s efforts to deploy the required technical capacity and infrastructure for production. Officials of NNPCL carried out the exercise alongside representatives of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and national security agencies to evaluate the site and confirm its readiness for drilling activities. The delegation was led by Hussein Aliyu, Project Coordinator for Enserv, who headed the NNPCL Enserv technical team. Other members included Wasiu Adeniyi, Onwugba Kelechi, Engr. Rabiu M. Audu, Ojonoka Braimah, Ahmad Usman, Akinbosola Oluwaseyi, Salisu Nuhu, James Amezhinim, Yusuf Abdul-Azeez, Amararu Isukul and Livinus J. Kigbu. Governor Dapo Abiodun described the development as a landmark achievement for Ogun State, saying the commencement of drilling at Eba would stimulate economic growth, create employment opportunities and attract increased federal presence to the state’s coastal communities. Geological reports had earlier confirmed the presence of hydrocarbons within the Ogun Waterside axis, leading to preliminary surveys and technical engagements by NNPCL. The Ogun State Government also carried out an independent verification of the oil well’s coordinates, affirming that the discovery is located within the state’s boundaries. To secure the project, naval security personnel have been deployed to the site for over 18 months, with the support of the Ogun State Government, to protect the facility and its environs. The Eba oil well is regarded as part of Nigeria’s strategic move to expand oil production beyond the Niger Delta region. Stakeholders noted that the next phase would focus on regulatory compliance, community relations, environmental protection and the smooth take-off of commercial operations. The state government also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his support toward the development of frontier oil basins and the equitable spread of the nation’s energy resources.

Nigeria is an unsafe territory, as government remains insensitive, inemptitude-Jackson Ojo A security expert and global affairs analyst, Jackson Lekan Ojo, has described the Nigerian territory as dangerously unsafe and volatile, as he accused government of insensitivity and outright inemptitude in the face of serious national challenge. He argued that the government has woefully failed in it's statutory obligation as enshrined in the constitution, which stipulates that the welfare and security of the people should be the primary responsibility of the government at all time. The Global Affairs analyst opined that despite several assurances and acclaimed reforms of the government, the security architecture of Nigeria continues to degenerate beyond redemption. According to him, every privilege of the people has been deprived them and taken away from them, making the people perpetually poor and in serious misery, which invariably worsens security situation in the country. "I can authoritatively say today that Nigeria has become an unsafe territory, you will recall that recently, a Brigadier General and his troops were killed in cold blood in Borno, and later these satanic boys moved to Kebbi where they kidnapped school children in a very compromised circumstance. "How can you explain how troops were withdrawn from the schools some minutes before the bandits attacked the students and took them away and up till now, Nigeria's government has not come out to name the person that gave that order. "As if that was not enough, these unscrupulous elements moved to Niger to kidnap school children also and killed policemen at checkpoints in Kogi on their way to Kwara. Unfortunately in Kwara, it is a continuation of incessant killings and maiming of innocent Nigerians. "The most heinous and recent is the massacre of about 160 people in the state and displacement of thousands of them, it is also the same cold blooded killings in Benue and Katsina. "The most important consideration of the government at at now is the number of governors and lawmakers they want to lure into the ruling APC, this government has totally abandoned governance for political jamboree. Their major focus now is how they are going to retain power in 2027. "Nigeria's government has become mere reactionary in the face of violent crimes that threaten our corporate existence and I can confirm to you that we have gotten to a point where the people have completely lost confidence in the government", Ojo submitted
