OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU BY OGBOMOSO SONS AND DAUGHTERS HOME AND ABROAD. The entire Ogbomoso community would like to appeal to the President to reconsider the appointment of Principal Officers of the Federal Polytechnic Ayede Ogbomoso, it is quite saddening when the Community read a letter of the Minister of Education which directed the Governing Council of the institution to appoint some people from the same institution as a Rector, Registar and Bursar. This very position of the Minister is totally against the spirit of fairness, equity and justice. The Minister of Education acted against the interest of the host community and Oyo State by not considering anyone from the environment for any major appointments in the institution. Though the institution is a federal School but it was sited in our Community to boost our economy and develop human capacity, the Minister failed in his responsibility to ensure the interests of the host community is well protected by illegally and tactically approving the appointments of three individuals from the Federal Polytechnic Ede to Lord themselves over our Community. Mr President, several institutions were created in recent time and most of those institutions are being led by the indigenes of the host Community, it is quite surprising that the Honourable Minister of Education has decided to compromise competent individuals within our Community to protect the interests of his cronies. Ogbomoso Community will not succumb to this malicious act of injustice of the Honourable Minister who has failed to act on several allegations of financial infractions against the former Rector up till this moment. The entire Ogbomoso community hereby appeals to the President to: 1) Set up a fact finding Committee to examine the financial activities of the institution from 2021 till date. 2) Order a fresh exercise for the appointment of the Principal Officers. 3) Immediate removal of 1. Chief Matthew O. Adesanya 2. Chief Mrs Monisola A. T'ẹgbẹ 3. Alhaji Aminu Bala Sokoto 4. Alhaji Mosu Goba Mintar from the Governing Council of the institution. 4) Set up a Panel to investigate all contracts that have been awarded since 2022. 5) Completion of the permanent site of the institution with the access roads. Tinubu, Dapo Abiodun and enduring partnership of purpose By Olaniyi Ajibola The ancient Greek Philosopher, Plato, in his famous seminar work titled 'The Republic' gave a logical insight on the ideal and requisite credentials of a true leader, with particular emphasis on intellectual capacity and moral standing, firmly rooted in unflinching consistency. Plato's analysis of this concept revealed that the location of strength of individuals ultimately determines various capabilities, arguing that those whose strength domiciled in their head are the philosopher kings with necessary capacity to govern as true leaders, while those with their strength domiciled in their chest and stomach are better as Soldiers and Capitalists respectively. Unfortunately, the largest number of leaders in this part of the world are either individuals whose strength domiciled in their chest or stomach as the case may be, making them brutal, ruthless and unrepentant kleptomaniac; seriously unfit to lead the people. The philosopher kings on the other hands are responsive and responsible in all ramifications, they are individuals with vision and passion to serve their people in all honesty and compassion, driven by creativity and courage to selflessly take bold steps for the greater benefit of their people. While there is acute shortage of these attributes among many leaders in sub-sahara Africa, the possession of it conspicuously stands others out with attendant honour and deserving respect among followers and associates alike, earning them loyalty even in the face of suffocating temptation. Without mincing words, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is one politician in Africa with identity of profound consistency and rare capacity for leadership recruitment. Many believe he has a long history of identifying the best among equals to lead and he has never got it wrong all along. Tinubu's legacy in Lagos with regards to assigning responsibilities in different capacities is indeed top notch, which has produced many leaders of impacts over the years, and the legacy continues to reverberate nationally with profound magnitude. Of course, this capacity of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu strategically made him to discover the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, as a reliable ally and dependable partner in the South West and the entire Southern Nigeria. Beyond scheming and chicanery of some expired politicians operating in Ogun State, who are still ignorantly living in the past, the capacity of President Tinubu to sagaciously sees beyond the past made him comfortably and confidently worked with Prince Dapo Abiodun since the beginning of his administration in 2023, the partnership that continues to yield fruitful and enviable results as struggle for reelection of Mr. President in 2027 gathers momentum. It is obvious that Governor Dapo Abiodun has carved a powerful niche for himself in the political space of the Southern Nigeria and across the country, considering his constant assertions and vocal position on national issues of interest as well as his brilliant contributions to the development of the region at all times. As the Chairman of Southern Governors' Forum, Prince Dapo Abiodun has tremendously displayed leadership capacity and great commitment on array of issues confronting the 17 southern states. Certainly, President Tinubu indeed needs a leader like Prince Dapo Abiodun to complement his efforts towards the implementation of his Renewed Hope Agenda, especially in the South West geo-political zone, the ancestral home of the President. It is on that note that I considered as laughable , the lamentation and frustration of a drowning former leader in Ogun State, who is presently crying over spilled milk with so much bitterness. One could see the hands of Esau and the eloquent voice of Jacob in the piece purportedly written by one Alex Olutunbosun some days ago, which was published by Thisday, where the author in careless expression of delusion out of unimaginable frustration complained about the leadership status of Prince Dapo Abiodun in the South West. By the tone of his narration, the notion behind the write-up became shamelessly naked for everyone to see and regrettably pointing towards the change of leadership in Ogun East Senatorial District, where the people unanimously endorsed a Philosopher King over a ruthless kleptomaniac. The people of Ogun East were clearly convinced by the unprecedented performance of Prince Dapo Abiodun as the head of Executive organ of government in the State and confidently resolved to assign him with more responsibilities at the red chamber of the National Assembly. Ironically, the issue of rebellion as mentioned by the author is far from the political ideology of Governor Abiodun but shares close affinity with the mentality of Olutunbosun's paymaster. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu would never forget the man that betrayed the progressive tendency in 2003, who out of rebellion and selfish consideration made Ogun State lost the governorship to reactionary Peoples Democratic Party(PDP). The President can not also forget the rebellious display that characterised the Mega Rally of APC at MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta now MKO Abiola Sports Arena, in the build up to the gubernatorial election of 2019 in Ogun State. However, Governor Abiodun, in his usual sense of consistent loyalty and gratitude has formally presented the official results of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for Ogun East Senatorial District to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The Governor, in his remarks commended the President and leader of the party for his inclusive democratic policies, particularly his insistence on direct primaries, which he said have enabled members of the APC to freely exercise their franchise, while also fostering a stronger sense of belonging and ownership within the party. He described the successful conduct of the primary election as a reflection of the unity, strength, maturity, and democratic spirit within the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, as he reaffirmed his commitment to continued service, noting that his aspiration to represent Ogun East Senatorial District in the Senate is driven by the desire to further advance development, peace, inclusiveness, and economic prosperity in Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole. This is indeed a partnership that works between two philosopher kings of repute. While agents of rebellion will continue to live in utmost regret and frustration, President Bola Tinubu, in collaboration with progressive and reliable leaders in the South West, led by Prince Dapo Abiodun is on the path of victory comes 2027. Abiodun's Endorsement Prioritises Predictable High-performing Governance Over Disruptive Frictions Of Personal Rivalry Femi Ogbonnikan The line between political passion and tactical emotionalism is always razor-thin, especially when the stakes involve a return ticket to the Senate. When a seasoned player like Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD) dials up the emotional rhetoric, it inevitably shifts the spotlight. Instead of a clinical debate on legislative track records, committee influence, or bills sponsored, the narrative becomes intensely personal. The flashpoint came during a recent media interview where Senator Daniel expressed grievances over his exclusion from a stakeholders’ meeting that endorsed Abiodun as the consensus candidate for Ogun East. Describing the process as “undue radicalism,” Daniel accused the governor of sidelining him despite his legislative record. It is both condescending and unbecoming for a person of calibre to publicly challenge a sitting governor to a televised confrontation. A strategy-like has inherent risks of letting emotion crowd out governance. In politics, playing the emotional card, often framed around perceived betrayal, or an appeal to the sentiment of the grassroots—is a classic defensive mechanism. By elevating the emotional tone, OGD has created an US versus THEM dynamic that forces supporters to internalise the conflict as their own. He has shifted the conversation away from objective governance metrics and toward a supremacy contest. Election is not a war. It is a routine process for a change of government. While sometimes emotion is a powerful tool to win an election, it is a volatile currency for representation. The recent decision by the leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Ogun East Senatorial District to endorse Governor Dapo Abiodun as their consensus candidate for the 2027 senatorial ticket is more than a routine political alignment. In this recent volatile ecosystem of Ogun State politics, where personal ambitions frequently clash with institutional goals, this endorsement serves as a definitive statement on the potency of organic party discipline and structural cohesion. While OGD's camp has characterised the Ijebu Ode declaration as an exclusionary exercise, a deeper analysis of the state's political dynamics reveals a different reality. The collective backing of Abiodun by local government chairmen, ward executives, and apex political leaders across the nine local government areas of Ijebu and Remo divisions represents a conscious effort to safeguard the party’s internal stability. It signals that the backbone of the APC in Ogun East prioritises predictable, high-performing governance over the disruptive frictions of personal rivalry. The noise surrounding the exclusion claims made by the incumbent senator ignores the fundamental mechanics of political party survival. In any robust political organization, the leadership structure retains the right to signal its preferred trajectory. Under the Electoral Act 2026, political parties are given clear pathways for candidate selection, balancing the voice of the grassroots with the strategic oversight of party caucuses. When the leadership of a senatorial district as crucial as Ogun East reaches a unified position, it is an exercise in institutional self-preservation. It is designed to minimize post-primary litigation, protect the party’s image from media wars, and ensure a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections. The endorsement of Governor Abiodun is not an imposition; it is the natural aggregation of the will of those who keep the party machinery running at the grassroots level day in and day out. What makes this endorsement organic rather than manufactured is the undeniable weight of Governor Abiodun’s developmental footprint across Ogun East. Political loyalty within a ruling party cannot be demanded in a vacuum; it must be earned through tangible deliverables Under the ISEYA developmental framework, the Abiodun administration has fundamentally transformed the economic landscape of the Ijebu and Remo divisions. The Gateway International Cargo Airport stands as a massive logistics and trade masterstroke, transitioning from a historical blueprint into a living, operational economic hub. Simultaneously, the aggressive reconstruction of critical intra-state and inter-state road networks has unlocked the industrial potential of Sagamu, Ijebu Ode, and surrounding hinterlands. By anchoring his senatorial bid on these visible milestones, Abiodun provided the Ogun East APC leadership with a compelling, defensible narrative. The stakeholders did not merely endorse an individual; they endorsed the continuation of a verified economic master plan. Beyond the ticket itself, Daniel has also challenged Abiodun to address other allegations publicly, insisting that his standing with constituents should count for more than backroom alignments. This public exchange marks a shift from past disputes over patronage, which were handled internally. By moving the friction into the media, Daniel's camp has signaled preparation for a contest that may not be resolved by elite consensus alone. It also highlights the tension under the Electoral Act 2026, which shifts power directly to registered party members at the ward level via direct primaries where consensus fails. History matters in this contest because it shapes perceptions of legitimacy. It is historically misleading to claim that Daniel won five local governments outright during the 2023 primaries before Abiodun’s intervention. Records from that period indicate that negotiations were actively ongoing and stakeholders were awaiting a structured resolution. In fact, reports show Daniel was at the palace of the late Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona, seeking adoption as a consensus candidate. His challenger at the time, Senator Lekan Mustapha, was ultimately persuaded to step down following Governor Abiodun’s direct intervention. The 2023 outcome was presented as a consensus, but the process itself was shaped by elite negotiations rather than a spontaneous delegate vote. That memory influences how party members view current endorsements. For many ward executives, the central question is whether 2027 will repeat this elite model or fully open the process to broader participation. For this primary, Daniel is leaning heavily on his grassroots base and his profile as a former governor. He argues that his political network remains vibrant at the ward level and that his experience in the National Assembly gives him an edge on oversight, federal appropriations, and constituency interventions. His campaign focuses on continuity of legislative representation and federal accountability. Conversely, Abiodun is betting on his executive legacy. While Daniel claimed in his interview that he completed the documentary approvals for the cargo airport before leaving office, leaving Abiodun with only the contract award, public records and project timelines tell a more advanced story. The airport's planning, funding, and construction advanced significantly under the current administration, leading to its first flight tests and phased operations. For voters, the distinction matters less than the economic activity generated, but for party insiders, the narrative of who delivered the project is central to political legitimacy. The establishment of a naval base in Ogun Waterside has equally emerged as another core point of contention. During his midterm constituency tours, Daniel accused the Abiodun administration of frustrating the establishment of this naval city in Abigi, which is designed to feature a dockyard, a secondary school, and a hospital to secure the state's coastal flank. The Abiodun administration has clarified that federal projects of this scale require meticulous coordination between federal agencies, the state government, and host communities to resolve land use, environmental impacts, and compensation. By contrast, other Ogun senators, including Solomon Olamilekan Adeola and Shuaib Salisu, have executed constituency projects with minimal friction by working within these official channels. The disagreement is less about the merit of the base and more about administrative consultation. The stakes extend far beyond the borders of Ogun East. For the APC at the national level, a clean, disciplined primary in Ogun is the next option available for maintaining the party’s dominance in the South West. Governor Abiodun has no issue with that since he has the people on his side. What then is the fuss about? Ogun is a strategic hub with a strong federal presence; internal fracturing here would signal a crack in the party's regional base. The National Working Committee (NWC) has remained cautious, preferring state chapters to manage internal friction, but Ogun remains firmly on its radar due to its proximity to Lagos and its role in national politics. Historically, a dynamic like this had cost the APC critical seats in states like Zamfara, Benue, and Rivers. The lesson from those past cycles is clear: internal contests are manageable only if the rules are transparent and consistently applied. The electorate in Ogun East is changing. A younger, highly mobile population that is active on social media and digital platforms is less deferential to traditional political hierarchies. These voters ask specific questions about jobs, road conditions, healthcare, and security, and are highly capable of switching allegiances if they perceive a rigged process. The proliferation of local radio call-in shows, WhatsApp community networks, and TikTok commentary makes it impossible to contain political disputes within traditional party walls. A statement made in Ijebu Ode can be online in minutes, reshaping the calculus for both camps. Ultimately, the APC in Ogun East faces a choice between two distinct paths: closing ranks around a verified consensus candidate to prevent a bruising primary, or managing a direct primary logistically and transparently. Governor Dapo Abiodun enters this contest with the clear advantages of delivery, active structure, and political timing. Across Ijebu and Remo, the visible footprint of his administration gives party members something tangible to weigh against political rhetoric. In a district where economic opportunity and security matter daily, a current track record naturally outweighs nostalgia. More importantly, Abiodun holds the structural leverage of incumbency. Local government chairmen, ward executives, and critical stakeholders across Ogun East have aligned with continuity because the administration has kept lines of communication open and projects moving forward. This organizational network is what wins primaries and drives voter turnout on election day. In 2027, the APC needs a candidate who can unify the party, defend its governance record, and secure the district without internal bleeding. On these metrics, Abiodun’s alignment with the party’s governing machinery positions him as the steady choice to secure the ticket and protect the seat against an energized opposition. For a district that has consistently been the decider in state elections, institutional stability remains the ultimate priority. Ogun East 2027: The dawn of truth over falsehood By Olaniyi Ajibola Amilcar Lopes Cabral, the slain Bissau-Guinean revolutionary leader , diplomat and political organizer, in one of his indelible narratives about the hypocrisy of colonial power once said," Tell No Lies, Claim No Easy Victories. Hide Nothing From The Masses of Our People. Expose Lies Whenever They Are Told. Mask No Difficulties, Mistakes, Failures". The above postulation of Cabral clearly and completely captures the present political development in Ogun State, particularly the Ogun East Senatorial District, where desperate political tendency has brazenly made decency an alternative forgone. The interview granted by Otunba Gbenga Daniel on Television Continental some days ago during a popular talk show, 'Beyond the Headlines' has been regarded as total falsehood in the face of available facts by majority of Ogun residents, mostly those who were privy to series of events that the former Governor referenced in the course of the interview. While this contradiction did not come as a surprise to many in the State, considering the antecedents and antics of Senator Gbenga Daniel since the beginning of his public life, some considered it extremely low for a former helmsman and lawmaker. Sincerely, the frequency at which the former Governor dished out those false narratives on the national television was so shocking and unthinkable, it regrettably exposed some fundamental factors that continued to make our politics continually murky in this part of the world. It is crystal clear that the resolution of the critical stakeholders within the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Ogun East, on the candidacy of Governor Dapo Abiodun, CON, as the consensus candidate of the party for the senatorial seat was borne out of remarkable and sterling performance of the Governor across the state. The non-violent political culture, coupled with the developmental drive of the Governor, which engendered unprecedented growth in the state's economy and speedy development of it's critical infrastructure remain unforgettable in the consciousness of the people and they can not take this great achievements for granted in any way, hence, the irrevocable stance of the people in Ogun East to have more of the Governor. This is, however, different from what transpired between the people of the state and Otunba Gbenga Daniel towards the tail end of his administration in 2011. It is a common knowledge that by the time former Governor Gbenga Daniel was about to exit the saddle, he had completely lost control of his party as well as the confidence of the people. His administration, which was characterised by lawlessness, executive brigandage, gangsterism and ineptitude became his albatross. While his political career was on Intensive Care Unit(ICU) at the time, his name across the state was synonymous with failure and deception. It is , therefore, laughable when the Senator claimed during the interview that he decided to 'rest' after the expiration of his tenure as a Governor for eight years in 2011, when it is obvious that he could not win any election in the State at the time and quietly walked away to avoid further disgrace. Of course, the two scenarios are different, in the case of Prince Dapo Abiodun, he is not only in firm control of his party but a leading voice of APC in Southern Nigeria, as the Chairman of Southern Governors' Forum, with profound influence across the country and cordial relationship with the President. Every discerning individual in Ogun State and beyond can still remember the frosty relationship between President Olusegun Obasanjo and Otunba Gbenga Daniel by the end of Baba's administration in 2007, which made OGD a total pariah at the Villa even during President Goodluck Jonathan's tenure in 2011 and the reason for OGD's ignominious end as a Governor. The eyewitness account of one of his aides at the time, Dr. Abayomi Arabambi, who is presently the National Vice Chairman (South-West) of the Labour Party and former chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Ogun State gave the former Governor out as a man who deceptively comes to equity with dirty hands. Arabambi, as an insider, during an interview on TVC yesterday, vividly recalled how Otunba Gbenga Daniel ran a very despotic government of intimidation, oppression and flagrant disobedience to law and order, with zero democratic ethos and values. He revealed how the freedom and privileges of ordinary citizens were callously denied and how Ogun State under OGD was akin to the Hobbesian state of nature as promulgated by the English Philosopher, Thomas Hobbes, where Life was ", Solitary, Poor, Nasty, Brutish and Short''. He confirmed how Governor Abiodun liberated the people from the siege of executive brigandage and radical oppression by 'The power that be', thereby, providing conducive political environment for dissenting voices to have it's say without threat or victimisation. "Political opposition in Ogun State had never enjoyed the level of freedom currently obtainable under Governor Abiodun'', Arabambi confidently said during the interview. Also, a Senior Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Public Communications, Dare Odufowokan, during the interview session vehemently refuted the claims of Senator Gbenga Daniel on different issues he raised during his appearance on TVC. Odufowokan, described OGD's claim of winning the Ogun East senatorial ticket in 2023 through a massive showing at the primary election as total false, saying that the purported primary election never took place, as Senator Daniel was reportedly at the palace of the late Oba Sikiru Adetona finalising a consensus arrangement at the very time the exercise was supposed to hold. According to Odufowokan, journalists, party supporters, and stakeholders waited till late in the night on the day of the supposed primary before the Director-General of Senator Lekan Mustapha’s campaign organisation, Dr. Ipaye, eventually informed those gathered that a consensus arrangement had been reached at the Awujale’s palace in favour of Senator Daniel, as Senator Mustapha consequently agreed not to return to the Senate. “The alleged primary referred to by Senator Gbenga Daniel never held. If a primary had not held by 5 p.m., why is somebody claiming to have won five local governments? Senator Daniel never surfaced at the venue until a deal was reached very late in the night at the palace of the late Awujale,” Odufowokan stated. Reacting to the allegations that Senator Daniel was prevented from attending a recent stakeholders’ meeting in Ijebu Ode, Odufowokan insisted that no one stopped the former governor from entering the venue. According to him, the disagreement arose because Senator Daniel arrived with a busload of supporters and insisted on driving into the meeting venue with them, a move party leaders reportedly objected to. "He decided he was not going to participate in the meeting. Senator Daniel only came on TV to play to the gallery,” he said. Also, on the Senator Daniel’s claim that he facilitated the establishment of a naval dockyard in Ogun State, Odufowokan maintained that the project was conceived and executed by Governor Abiodun following several meetings with naval authorities. “All documents relating to the project have the imprint of Governor Dapo Abiodun,” he said, challenging Senator Daniel to publish documentary evidence linking him directly to the initiative as he further argued that the lawmaker merely moved motions on the floor of the Senate after discussions between Governor Abiodun and naval authorities had already been concluded. To this end, the admonition of Amilcar Lopes Cabral is sufficiently instructive for all of us", Tell No Lies, Claim No Easy Victories. Hide Nothing From The Masses of Our People. Expose Lies Whenever They Are Told. Mask No Difficulties, Mistakes, Failures". May the good Lord bless the people of Ogun East as they earnestly await January 2027 to massively vote for Governor Dapo Abiodun as their representative at the red chamber of the National Assembly. Ajibola is a Senior Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Strategic Communications.

Security expert hails emergence of Manir Dan'iya as ADC's guber candidate in Sokoto A leading Security Expert in Nigeria and Global Affairs Analyst, Jackson Lekan Ojo, has described the emergence of Manir Dan Iya as the gubernatorial candidate for the African Democratic Congress(ADC) in Sokoto as the best that has happened to the North West State in the recent time. Ojo, in a congratulatory message made available to newsmen on Saturday said after the eventful tenure of Aminu Tambuwal in the state, Sokoto State urgently needs a character like Manir Dan iya as a thought leader of great intelect, administrative acumen and requisite sensitivity. He further eulogised the ADC's gubernatorial candidate as a man with profound political sagacity, who combines humility, integrity with tenacity since the inception of his public career. The security expert added that the greatest attribute of Manir, which gives him wide acceptance among the people of Sokoto and beyond is his detribalised nature and social exposure, thereby making his political philosophy embedded more in civility and versatility. Ojo, therefore, enjoined the people of Sokoto State to rally round the candidacy of Manir and give him the necessary support he needs to emerge as the Governor of the State, saying the people of the state would be better for it. " I heartily congratulate my good brother, Alhaji Manir Dan iya, for his emergence as the gubernatorial candidate for the Africa Democratic Congress(ADC) in Sokoto State. "This is indeed a sheering development for the people of Sokoto State and the beginning of new era of speedy development and better standard of living for the residents. After Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal's administration, Sokoto State is again going to have another inclusive leadership. "Dan Iya is a detribalised Nigerian with satisfactory knowledge of inclusive governance and all-round development, his social exposure is top-notch and he is passionate about human capital development, he will never disappoint the people of Sokoto State in any way. "Though I am a Christian from the South West, my relationship with Manir Dan Iya gave me a different perception about the northern region and it's people, he is a unifier between the North and the South and also between the Christians and the Muslims, he is without doubt the round peg in a round hole for the people of Sokoto at this point in time. "I, hereby, urge both Christians and Muslims and all residents of the state irrespective of tribe to massively vote for Manir Dan Iya to become the next Governor of Sokoto State", he said.

Ogun East: How Dapo Abiodun moves with precision, defies forces of rebellion By Olaniyi Ajibola Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, is one of the most celebrated political juggernauts in the Nigeria's political space since the inception of the fourth republic in 1999, though cool, calm and collected by nature, his political dealings, however, reflect a giant by all standards. Without doubt, the evergreen postulation of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, during his tribulation in 1963, where he gallantly submitted,''It is not life that matters but the courage you put into it", has become an unimpeachable political philosophy of some few great leaders in the 21st century, including Prince Dapo Abiodun. Point blankly, not many of his contemporary politicians across Nigeria had experienced the level of internal rebellion the Ogun State Governor had experienced in politics, especially from those who have enjoyed his benevolence and support in the past but reciprocated with sheer ingratitude. Despite all these and in line with the political thought of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Governor Dapo Abiodun refused to be derailed by the shenanigans of his foes and friends, he carries on with courage and focus on the goal of bringing his exceptional skill in human and material resources management to bear in the politics of Ogun State. True to his conviction, the Prince of Iperu -remo has disappointed many of his antagonists and adversaries in the most shocking way, making some of them to resort to blackmail and smear campaign with less logical narratives sufficient enough to convince the electorate at the polls. There is a consensus among the people of the state that the greatest strength of Governor Abiodun lies in his developmental drive and dexterity to change the old order through creativity and innovation and without common noise peculiar to politicians of his clime. While he has succeeded in writing his name in gold in the political arena of Ogun State through his legacy projects across the three senatorial districts of the state, his people in Ogun East would never let him go without assigning him further responsibility in different capacity. As it stands today and irrespective of the intensity of wailings within and outside the All Progressives Congress (APC) by some inconsequential number of people who are suffering from chronic trauma of political irrelevance, Governor Dapo Abiodun remains the incontrovertible choice of the electorate in Ogun East for 2027. The present fury and attendant media attacks against the Governor is technically expected considering his rising profile in the Nigeria's political space, he is used to it and would never be perturbed and distracted by the noise of the naysayers. From the Governor's body language and every indication within his camp, what is paramount to him now is how he would showcase his mettle in the business of law-making starting from 2027 towards supporting the renewed hope agenda of his leader, President Bola Tinubu, GCFR. Meanwhile, the formal endorsement of the Governor on Tuesday in Ijebu-ode by critical stakeholders in APC across the zone and beyond , where he was unanimously presented as the consensus candidate for the Ogun East Senatorial seat in 2027 quickly became a source of headache and accidental fever for his 'opponents'. Governor Dapo Abiodun triumphantly arrived at the venue alongside his political concomitant, Senator Olamilekan Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, who is the consensus gubernatorial candidate for APC in the State, as they were welcomed by jubilant mammoth crowd of party faithful and supporters alike. The endorsement, according to political pundits was a major boost for the Governor, where party leaders described the action as collective decision aimed at ensuring quality representation and sustaining party unity in the district. While presenting Governor Abiodun to leaders and stakeholders of the zone, former Deputy Governor, Segun Adesegun, said party members across the district had unanimously endorsed the Governor as the APC consensus candidate for Ogun East Senatorial District. Senator Lekan Mustapha, on his part, stated that the adoption of Governor Abiodun was the collective decision of the people of the district to ensure effective and quality representation at the National Assembly. He recalled the Ogun East stakeholders’ meeting held on April 20, where leaders of the district unanimously adopted Governor Abiodun as the preferred senatorial candidate of the party, noting that Tuesday’s gathering was convened to formally communicate the decision to the Governor and the party leadership. In the same manner, the Chairman of APC in Ogun East, Dr. Adeleke Ogundoyin, formally handed over the Governor to the Ogun State APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, urging the state leadership to forward his name to the national secretariat of the party as the APC flag bearer for Ogun East Senatorial District. In his reaction , Governor Dapo Abiodun expressed profound appreciation to leaders, stakeholders, and delegates of Ogun East Senatorial District for the confidence reposed in him, describing the consensus arrangement as a demonstration of unity, political maturity, and shared commitment to the progress of the district and Ogun State in general. The Governor said he was deeply humbled by the overwhelming support and pledged not to betray the trust and confidence bestowed on him by the people and the leadership of the APC in Ogun East. He assured party faithful and residents of the district that, if elected to represent Ogun East at the Senate, he would provide purposeful, people-oriented, and quality representation capable of attracting more development and democratic dividends to the area. Governor Abiodun also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the unprecedented support the Ogun State Government has received since he assumed office, while commending leaders of the zone for prioritizing unity and cohesion, noting that the adoption of a consensus candidate would further strengthen the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections. He reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals and programmes of the party, while promising to continue working closely with stakeholders across the senatorial district to sustain the developmental strides already recorded in Ogun State. In truth and indeed, the race for the Ogun East Senatorial District has been won and lost in the minds of the people; while wailers will continue to do what they know how to do best in the state, the people of the district are more determined and can not wait to massively vote for Governor Dapo Abiodun as their representative in the red chamber of the National Assembly in 2027. Obviously, Ogun East is ready! Governor Abiodun is willing! Ajibola is a Senior Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Strategic Communications

Ogun East Senatorial Seat: Between Competence and Calumny By Olaniyi Ajibola The phrase'',Whatever touches all must be approved by all", was a mediaeval legal maxim popularized by King Edward 1 of England in the late 13th century, precisely 1295, while convening the model British Parliament, and it has since become the foundational principle for representative government around the world. To that end, every constitutional democracy intrinsically predicates on the parliament as a cornerstone and the conscience of the public. With it's symbiotic relationship with the executive arm of government, both organs of government remain the determinant of pubic policies for the good of all. So, a legislator is expected to be vibrant, assertive, sensitive and above all clear -headed enough to be able to package brilliant ideas in form of bills, with capacity for logical debate of profound conviction, which would transform brilliant ideas into legislation and ultimately becomes a policy of government. It is basically because of these essential political credentials needed to change the face and pattern of representation in Ogun East Senatorial District for the purpose of inclusivity that critical stakeholders in the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) unanimously endorsed Prince Dapo Abiodun against 2027. It is a known fact that the people of Ogun East are highly sophisticated individuals with towering social exposure dated centuries, which indeed make them politically conscious and sensitive. They possess strong and rational sense of judgement and can clearly differentiate between reality and deception. To start with, the people of the axis would forever be grateful to Governor Abiodun for changing a mere political statement of a supposed leader into reality after two decades of neglect. The Gateway International Airport is without doubt the pride of Ogun State located in Ogun East. Having adjudged arguably as the fastest growing airport in the West Africa corridor and unarguably the biggest in the sub-region, the airport remains a testament of resilience, sustained commitment and leadership acumen. It takes a focused and responsive leader to transform idea into fruition and continues to work assiduously day and night for further transformation. Starting with commercial flights arrangement from Iperu to Abuja consistently and now pioneering international flights for pilgrimage in the South West geo-political zone, Prince Dapo Abiodun deserves torrential applause. In the same vein, the people of the zone continue to appreciate the efforts of the Governor through his consistent quest to make the state a leading industrial hub in Africa, by going into partnership with Arise Integrated Industrial Platform (IIP), which is establishing a $2 billion garment factory , set to be the largest in Africa, and located in the Special Agro-Processing Zone near Ogun Airport City, it will produce 4.4 million garments daily, create up to 150,000 jobs. The project aims to boost local cotton farming, with 10,000 hectares earmarked for cultivation. The initiative aims to position Ogun as a premier industrial hub for textiles in Africa, serving both domestic and export market. Talking about innate capacity to deliberately using legislation to reshape and remodel pubic policies for quality delivery, Governor Dapo Abiodun introduced advanced technology into land allocation in Ogun State primarily through the Ogun State Land Administration and Revenue Management System (OLARMS) . The digital platform, which was launched in October, 2021 practically digitizes land records and automates processes like application, allocation, and C of O issuance, replacing manual, fraudulent, and paper-based procedures. These innovations allow citizens and investors to apply and process land services, including land titles (C of O) ratification, directly online, thereby dematerializes Certificates of Occupancy by converting them into digital assets, which improves speed, security, and integrity in property transactions. Also, the implementation of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Land Information Management Systems (LIMS) for accurate mapping and to eliminate land grabbing, encroachment, and documentation scams is another landmark achievement of Dapo Abiodun -led administration in the state. These reforms aimed to break the cartel of land syndicates and streamline land management to enhance investment and improve the ease of doing business in Ogun State. The people of the state would never forget in a jiffy the magic Governor Dapo Abiodun performed at Olumo Rock Tourist Attraction Centre, through renovation and rebranding, which resulted in revenue surge from between 3 and 4 million annually to approximately 10 million weekly and 40 million monthly by 2026. This brilliant policy of the government on tourism in the state has tremendously repositioned the rock as a major source of internally generated revenue (IGR) for Ogun State. It is pertinent to also discuss how Governor Dapo Abiodun has launched the Light Up Ogun Initiative, activating a 34MW Oni Jagan-Jagan Independent Power Plant to provide 24-hour electricity to Abeokuta metropolis and surrounding areas, with the ultimate aim of achieving energy self -sufficiency and working towards expanding to Sagamu, Ijebu-ode and Ota among others. As the state maintains and sustains it's status as the leading industrial hub in West Africa, the initiative aims to position Ogun State as having the most stable and affordable power supply in Nigeria to support industrialization. One can go on and on in narrating the rare leadership capacity and democratic credentials of Governor Dapo Abiodun which make him a guru in policy initiation, formulation and implementation with high degree of focus, clarity of purpose and selflessness. It is therefore, not a coincidence that this is his month, it is strictly providence, the month that determines every political consideration about 2027. Because Governor Abiodun is a Gemini, he is naturally an intellectual, who thrives in communication and variety, the best for the job of legislation, after all, ''whatever touches all must be approved by all", Without mincing words, Dapo Abiodun's penchant for effective communication and all-inclusive consultations is needed for law-making as a way of ensuring greatest happiness for the greatest number of people in Ogun East Senatorial District, as he has demonstrated convincingly in the last 7 years as Governor of Ogun State. As he winds down his executive responsibility to take legislative obligation in continuation of his service to his people and Nigeria at large, his records are different from that of his predecessor who thrives in deception and calumny perpetually in Abeokuta and later Abuja without conscience. Ajibola writes from Abeokuta.

Kwara South 2027: Alabaja, The Man to be entrusted with the Senatorial seat By Kazeem Ayuba As the 2027 general elections draw closer, the people of Kwara South are beginning to look beyond politics as usual. The call across Igbomina, Ekiti and Ibolo blocs is for competent representation that delivers real change. In this article, one name continues to resonate: Dr. Kazeem Olayimika Salaam (Alabaja). Dr. Kazeem Salaam (Alabaja) is not a stranger to service. Over the years, he has built a reputation as a grassroots mobilizer, intellectual and community builder whose passion for the development of Kwara South is unwavering. His deep understanding of the peculiar challenges facing the seven local governments in the district positions him as a senatorial hopeful with both vision and capacity. The people of Kwara South yearn for a senator who will move beyond rhetoric to real, measurable impact, Dr. Alabaja embodies that promise. His development blueprint prioritizes road infrastructure to open up rural communities, quality education to empower the next generation and agricultural investment to harness the agrarian strength of Igbomina, Ekiti and Ibolo lands. What sets Dr. Kazeem (Alabaja) apart is his accessibility and connection to the people. From market women in Offa to farmers in Ekiti LGA and from artisans in Oke-Ero to youths in Isin, testimonies of his interventions and support abound. He listens, he engages and he acts. That is the kind of representation Kwara South deserves at the Red Chamber. Kwara South has suffered years of under-representation where federal opportunities, jobs and projects barely reach the nooks and crannies of the district. With Dr. Kazeem Salaam (Alabaja) at the Senate, the district will have a strong voice to lobby, attract and monitor federal presence. His exposure, contacts and intellectual depth are assets he intends to deploy for the collective good. Youth and women empowerment remain central to his agenda. Dr. Kazeem Salaam (Alabaja) believes that a prosperous Kwara South must be built on an empowered population. His plan includes targeted skills acquisition programs, support for small businesses, improved healthcare delivery and scholarship schemes that cut across the three ethnic blocs without bias. Traditional rulers, community leaders, and party stakeholders who have interacted with him attest to his humility, loyalty and clarity of purpose. He is not driven by personal ambition but by a genuine desire to see Kwara South take its rightful place in the development index of Nigeria. His candidacy is therefore a movement, not just an aspiration. The 2027 Kwara South senatorial election presents a clear choice: continuity of tokenism or the dawn of real change. Dr. Kazeem Olayimika Salaam (Alabaja) represents that new dawn. How Gov. Abiodun drives internal party democracy through strategic consultations By Olaniyi Ajibola As another election cycle approaches against 2027, political activities have begun with expected momentum in Ogun State, the leading political conscious landscape in Nigeria, parading juggernauts of diverse strength and stature amid sophisticated electorate. The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is leaving no stone unturned in the quest for party cohesion and unity for greater performance in the forthcoming polls despite the fact that opposition elements in the state are in perpetual state of inertia in the face of sterling performance of Dapo Abiodun -led administration in the state. Governor Dapo Abiodun, being the leader of the party is aggressively taking the bull by the horns by frontally addressing every issue revolving around contestation in the party with democratic instrument of extensive consultation in the most strategic manner ever experienced in the state. The Governor with his satisfactory knowledge about election and internal party democracy clearly knows that there is need for proper communication with various interests towards reaching consensus as well as mechanism for adequate and appropriate compensation to sustain loyalty and unity. Of course, the Governor by his nature and style of leadership priorities effective communication and consultation in every decision -making process, with the aim of giving sense of belongings to everyone irrespective of status, especially when it comes to political interests and ambitions. There is no doubt that inclusion of party members in decision-making, policy formulation, and leadership selection with utmost transparency and accountability have been the guiding principles of the present administration in Ogun State. The administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun has convincingly promotes democratic values within the governing party thereby eradicating autocracy, intimidation and structural inequality of the past by increasing member engagement and fostering fairer candidate selection. Indeed, the strategic meeting the Governor held with House of Representatives and House of Assembly aspirants, alongside party leaders from the state’s 20 local government areas in Abeokuta on Tuesday implicitly gives credence to the above submission and speaks volume of the democratic credentials of the helmsman. Governor Abiodun, in his usual charismatic manner appealed to all the aspirants on the platform of APC in Ogun State to respect local government zoning arrangements and embrace consensus-building as the party prepares for forthcoming elections. He hinged his appeal on the logical consideration for united front and internal harmony as a way of sustaining the gains of past years, which have placed the ruling party far ahead of any other political parties across the state. In his address, the Governor stressed that while many party members are qualified to contest, only one candidate can emerge for each position. He urged aspirants to prioritise party unity through dialogue and compromise rather than engage in divisive contests. According to him, zoning arrangements across local governments would serve as a guiding framework to promote fairness, equity, and inclusion within the party, as he added that grassroots leaders are best positioned to assess aspirants and recommend suitable candidates. Governor Abiodun reiterated his political philosophy at the event, saying '', I am not a dictator and I have no intention of imposing candidates, decisions would be reached through consultations with stakeholders at the local level". What a strong assurance from a thought leader! The Governor by this assurance has once again instilled the rare democratic values and new political culture in members of the party and tactically doused building tensions and anxiety within the party. Drawing from his rich experience about dire consequences of party acrimony and internal wranglings , Abiodun warned stakeholders against contentious primaries which often result in bitterness, financial strain, and internal divisions that could weaken the party’s electoral chances, emphasising the intrinsic benefit of consensus-building. Governor Abiodun was not giving all these admonitions and political sermons in a vacuum, he made it abundantly clear to aspirants that he was once in their shoes but meticulously maintained decorum and patience for over two decades, from 1993 till 2019 when his political maturity paid off. He said'', I started contesting in 1993 and only became governor in 2019. If you don’t get it today, you may get it tomorrow". The Governor would not end his remarks without a sheering news to the aspirants, as he pledged to refund nomination form fees to those who do not secure party tickets among them, and in addition to that, he assured them of compensation and future opportunities within the party, he, however, clarified that the incentives were not meant to induce loyalty but to appreciate commitment and strengthen internal cohesion. This is leadership with compassion and human face, it is simply exemplary in all ramifications across political climes and eloquently preaches political inclusivity, sagacity and capacity for strategic engagement in the quest for party cohesion and unity. In the words of the late Chinese Strategist, Philosopher and Writer, Sun Tzu'', A leader leads by example, not force". Strictly speaking, Governor Dapo Abiodun is a good definition of an exemplary leader, his political philosophy predicates on the popular maxim '', Whatever Touches All Must Be Approved By All", while his style of leadership remains a total departure from the past. Kudos, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON. Ajibola is Senior Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Strategic Communications

Gateway Airport's First International Flight and Lesson of Consistency By Olaniyi Ajibola In the course of political conversation and general social discourse recently, a discussant rather excitedly submitted'', I think the most interesting thing about Governor Dapo Abiodun is that the man is consistently consistent in all his dealings, obviously his conviction about his capacity for good governance kept him going for many years before becoming Governor eventually, and his dream of making a remarkable impacts is coming to fruition now, just look at this Gateway International Airport and it's history ". A careful and painstaking observation of the personality of the Governor would reveal many hidden values necessary for indelible achievements in leadership; from calmness to calculative body language and assertive expressions that encapsulate strong conviction. These leadership values the Governor possesses constitute a compass of direction with clear mission which culminated into many unprecedented achievements of his administration since Inception, and loudly changed the story of Ogun State within the comity of states. To put it succinctly, the story of the Gateway International Airport in Ogun State practically separates deception from conviction, it dichotomies inclusive leadership from political chicanery and ultimately puts the issue of clarity of purpose at the front burner of leadership recruitment. To many residents of Ogun State, the dream of having an airport in the state has become a reality through a visionary leader, who went further to build not an ordinary airport for the sake of it but one that is globally adjudged as a standard airport of rare capacity in the West Africa sub-region. The remarks of President Bola Tinubu during the commissioning of the project on 4th April gave credence to the creativity and commitment of Prince Dapo Abiodun towards giving Ogun State and Nigeria at large a world-class airport of great impacts in the aviation industry. From it's commencement of commercial flights to Abuja and later other cities of Nigeria even long before it's commissioning and now the first international flights that started with the pilgrimage to the holy land of Mecca , Governor Dapo Abiola is without doubt a fulfilled man of history. Beyond the euphoria of this historic flight to the holy land, it is also instructive that the Governor is a promoter of religious harmony and it's sanctity, despite being of Christian faith, the international flight in that airport started with holy pilgrimage to Mecca and not Jerusalem, this is really exemplary. Speaking ahead of the inaugural flight, the Governor described the journey as the first 4,600-kilometre nonstop international flight from the location of the airport at Iperu, noting that it reflects the administration’s commitment to infrastructure and economic expansion. “What we celebrate today goes far beyond the arrival and departure of an international aircraft; it is a testament to focus, determination, resilience, commitment, sacrifice, and teamwork,” the governor said. He further explained that the development opens new pathways for connectivity and positions Ogun State as a hub for commerce and global interaction, as he expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his support in ensuring the timely completion of the airport and commended the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria for designating the facility as one of the centres for Hajj operations. He also charged the pilgrims to be worthy ambassadors of Nigeria by obeying the laws of Saudi Arabia and conducting themselves with discipline and integrity throughout their stay. In his remarks, NAHCON Chairman, Ismail Yusuf, represented by Commissioner for Hajj Operations, Alhaji Olanrewaju Elegushi, said the new departure point would significantly ease logistics by reducing travel time for pilgrims. He noted that Gateway International Airport is the first state-owned facility in South-West Nigeria cleared for Hajj operations without limitations, attributing the feat to its modern infrastructure. In the same vein, the Amir Hajj 2026, Alhaji Shamsideen Apelogun, described the pilgrimage as a spiritual privilege and urged pilgrims to uphold the image of the state and Nigeria. In his remarks, the Olowu of Owu, Oba Saka Matemilola, and the Chief Imam of Gbagura, Prof. Emeritus Kamaldeen Balogun, commended the project, noting that it has eliminated the stress of travelling to Lagos for international departures. As the Gateway International Airport becomes a major hub for international travel and pilgrimage operations in Nigeria and particularly in the South West geopolitical zone, Ogun State has fully regained it's primordial status as undisputable Gateway State. It is imperative to commend the Governor for his sincerity of purpose, sustained commitment, unwavering resilience and undiluted vision, alongside his team of receptive professionals and intellectuals, who paid profound attention to details throughout without blemish. Sincerely, Ogun State deserves this type of leadership with human face, considering unpalatable experience of deceit and executive brigandage of the past. Solomon Adeola 'Yayi': Endorsement of hope, convergence like never By Olaniyi Ajibola There was a new and significant dimension to the political trajectory of Ogun State on Monday, 13th April, 2026, which of course changed the dynamics as well as every permutation in the state's polity. It was the unanimous endorsement of Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the consensus candidate of the governing All Progressives Congress(APC) in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state. The APC's strategic caucus meeting, where Governor Dapo Abiodun announced Yayi as the candidate of the party was a convergence of diverse political interests and a mixture of age-long political foes and allies, all gathered under one roof and pocketed their pride for one man. That Ogun State is a tough political arena is indeed an understatement, the state parades some of the most cerebral and sagacious gladiators in the political space of Nigeria, alongside very sophisticated and conscious electorate; hence, the historical relevance of the strategic caucus meeting of Monday. It was particularly this special place of Ogun, within the comity of states that gave the endorsement of Yayi that huge publicity, as it quickly became a national conversation that centred around robust political mechanism and strategic planning. Asides the context of the meeting, the effects of it's outcome in the state was thunderous, which cut across party affiliations, ethnicity and social status. The people's response to the announcement simply confirmed that the preponderant of the electorate have been waiting for Governor Dapo Abiodun to make such an announcement. Without mincing words, the endorsement intrinsically came like a declaration as the Governor by the electoral umpire for Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi, he has without doubt made history as a political giant with rare grace, a unifier without contestation and a man of the people. The Senator is lucky to have worked alongside a perfect gentle man like Governor Dapo Abiodun, who is by all standards an Omoluabi par excellence and a selfless leader with requisite native intelligence and intellectual capacity to listen, dissect issues critically and make sound decision. The import of Governor Abiodun's speech at the event unequivocally indicated undiluted conviction of a leader to lead from the front in the struggle ahead with profound confidence in the capacity of a man he wants to succeed him. As a shrewd politician and juggernaut of repute, Senator Yayi will not disappoint anyone among his supporters and leaders alike, his antecedents right from the private sector to the public office remain an unimpeachable evidence of his consistency and reliability. There is incontrovertible evidence that Senator Yayi is meticulously grounded, with unwavering attention to details and listening capacity for diverse opinions. Obviously, he wouldn't derail from the path of progressive policies of his party, as embarked upon by the present administration in the state. His over two decades of parliamentary experience and exposure place him on the right footing to closely and cordially work with the state's parliament and bring about masses-oriented legislation that would better the lives of the people the more and engender speedy development. Yayi's financial acumen and dexterity give him satisfactory and necessary capacity to push the financial status of the state further, in the way Governor Dapo Abiodun commendably did it, which put the state in the second position in the area of Internally generated revenue across the country. By the level of sensitivity and compassion Senator Solomon Adeola has displayed, the welfare and wellness of the people would be his topmost priority at all times, he has convincingly exhibited that tendency in the past and he wouldn't change his way. The APC's gubernatorial hopeful is a man with great exposure, his cosmopolitan background right from Lagos is a huge advantage for the state in the quest of sustaining this present tempo of industrialization, as Ogun remains the leading light and unarguably the industrial hub of Nigeria . There is no doubt that the Senator will hit the ground running and take it further from where Governor Dapo Abiodun stops by attracting more investors into the state and optimally utilize the comparative advantage of location the state enjoys. Like Governor Dapo Abiodun, there is no doubt that Yayi is a man of peace, despite the prevailing murky politics of Nigeria, the financial guru has maintained a very decent image devoid of acrimony and controversy of any form, definitely, he will sustain the level of peace in the state and never take the state back to 'Egypt'. One of the selling points of Senator Adeola Yayi is his strength and penchant for community engagement, he communicates easily with every strata of the society without discrimination of any kind, it is obvious that he will take it further in the saddle as a grassroots leader who understands the plights and aspirations of his people at all time. The traditional institution remains the harbinger of our tradition and culture, everyone believes in the wisdom of Senator Olamilekan Adeola to manage and respectfully engage this institution as a way of promoting and preserving this our heritage which clearly defines us as truly Omoluabi. Like the way Plato analysed the fundamental and integral quality of a Philosopher King in his book' The Republic ' where he recommended a man whose strength resides in his head as one that qualifies to be king, Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi is the man with that required strength of leadership that rightly domiciled in his head, as he comes with avalanche of knowledge, skills and courage to lead from May 29, 2027. Congratulations, Gbogbo Omo Ogun! Olaniyi Ajibola writes from Abeokuta

The Pragmatic Dapo Abiodun, Making History Beyond Imagination Olaniyi Ajibola According to Astrological account, those who are born between 21st May and 21st June are GEMINI, with zodiac symbol of the Twins and characterized as Witty, Charming, and highly social individuals. They are naturally intellectual and adaptable, who thrive on communication and variety. Having born on 29th May, Prince Dapo Abiodun, is a Gemini, with distinct innate qualities of wittiness, charmingness, intellectualism and adaptability, coupled with his enviable social exposure among others; the Governor distinguishes himself as a leader who prioritises effective communication through diverse channels. Obviously, these special virtues Governor Dapo Abiodun possesses have guided him in his journey of life as he continues to triumph and succeed where many of his kind had failed woefully with high degree of ignominy, making them a reference for historical failure in the political history of Ogun State. Of course, not many people are aware of the inherent talent in Governor Dapo Abiodun , hence, the propensity to underrate him at first instance, especially in the political landscape. However, it was not long that many of his adversaries came to realise their errors of thoughts with his unprecedented performance and rare leadership capacity. At the dawn of the fourth republic in 1999, with full- blown democratic government in Nigeria, unlike the diarchy of the aborted third republic, it became practically imperative for vibrant and clear-headed Nigerians to showcase their mettle in leadership, and Prince Dapo Abiodun was among those young and critical minds who resiliently expressed interest to govern and contribute their quotas in the development of Nigeria, having participated actively in the past democratic experiment in the early 90s. As his efforts to bring his robust leadership skills to bear in governance of Ogun State eventually paid off in 2019, the administration started with distinct style that brought about a total and convincing departure from the past, as Governor Dapo Abiodun led from the front with vision, from the middle with compassion and from the back with courage, making governance to permanently resides among the people. His penchant to break historical jinx and change dynamics in the state remains highly exceptional, as he firmly stands on his pledge to his people to develop every part of the state evenly without fear or favour. The people of the state can never forget the indelible flag-off of the reconstruction of 81km Abeokuta-Ota-Lagos express road in August, 2024, which formally constituted a nightmare for motorists for decades and adversely affected economic activities in that corridor without respite from previous administrations. Governor Dapo didn't stop there, he provided succour to the residents of Akute-Ajuwon-Alagbole and it's environs, an environment adjudged to be heavily traversed border community between Lagos and Ogun States, by constructing different roads which had been abandoned since 2003 and remained dangerously deplorable. The Gateway International Airport is indeed recent, where the Governor turned a thick forest formerly inhabited by wild animals and birds to a project of pride for Ogun State and Nigeria, as a world class Airport with longest runway in West Africa sub-region was commissioned by Present Bola Ahmed Tinubu on 4th April, 2026, fulfilling the dream of the people of the state in the last two decades. Then, come another unprecedented feat of Governor Dapo Abiodun, as he confidently and triumphantly announced Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi as a consensus candidate of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state. Strictly speaking, the event of Monday, 13th April, 2026 is first of its kind in the political history of Ogun State, where an incumbent would announce a consensus candidate for his party as a likely successor. While the second republic ended abruptly in 31st December 1983, with Chief Victor Olabisi Onabanjo as the first executive Governor of the state on the platform of Unity Party of Nigeria(UPN), Chief Olusegun Osoba, a member of Alliance of Democracy (AD) lost reelection bid in 2003 to a candidate of opposition Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) Otunba Gbenga Daniel. Otunba Gbenga Daniel also could not produce a candidate as the flag bearer of his party, the PDP in 2011 as his possible successor and was forced to use another political platform for his annointed candidate in which the rest remains history. It was the same fate that befell the 'charismatic', 'powerful' and 'all-knowing' Senator Ibikune Amosun. The popular Ajiri unfortunately failed to produce a candidate from his party, the APC as possible successor in 2019, and like his predecessor, he was forced to seek for alternative platform for his preferred candidate, who eventually lost to very strategic but noiseless Dapo Abiodun. So, where all these aforementioned leaders had failed, Dapo Abiodun gracefully succeeded and made history with pride. Because he combines his zodiac qualities with decent family background, the Prince of Iperu frontally emerged as a natural leader of enviable sagacity in Ogun State. Governor Dapo Abiodun's speech at the APC's strategic caucus meeting of Monday speaks volume of his intellectual prowess that is firmly rooted in native intelligence. He said'', Today, those I considered as front-runners in Ogun West have given their consent and bought into the idea. “The reason Ogun West has not been able to produce a governor until now is due to a lack of cooperation. I am proud to say that I have spoken to Hon. Biodun Akinlade, Hon. Gboyega Isiaka, and I can confirm that they are fully on board with having a single Ogun West candidate. “Nothing will give me more joy than to break the 50-year-old jinx. Nothing will give me more joy than to fulfill the aspirations of my predecessors and ensure that Ogun West produces the next governor of Ogun State. “On that note, permit me to unveil the person we have decided will be the next flag bearer of our great party in Ogun State—Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola. ''A lot of discussions have taken place behind the scenes, and these discussions did not just start a month or two ago. I must confess that they began about six months ago. “The President called Chief Olusegun Osoba, who in turn reached out to me and a few others. He expressed satisfaction with what we are doing and indicated his interest in having a say in who would work with him in Ogun State in the next election. “He asked me which zone I preferred for the next governor to come from, and without hesitation, I said Ogun West. When he asked why, I told him it is the only senatorial district that has not produced a governor in the history of the state. “I also told him that this position aligns with the aspirations of my predecessors. We may disagree on other issues, but on this, we are in agreement". As I congratulate Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi on his unanimous endorsement as the standard bearer of APC in the gubernatorial election of 2027 in Ogun State, and as well wish him victory in the poll, I want to heartily rejoice with our principal of inestimable value, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, a man of history and notable importance. Gateway International Airport: From Forest to Fortune Olaniyi Ajibola Eleanor Rosalynn Carter, the former American First Lady and Humanitarian, once gave a vivid distinction between two brands of leadership in this manner,'' A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don't necessarily want to go , but ought to be". This line of thought clearly speaks to the concept of idealism and realism in governance and indeed defines the trajectory of political developments in Africa, where Nigeria, the largest sovereign entity on the continent remains a leading light. It is in view of this that Ogun State, one of the 36 sub-national governments in Nigeria elicited global attention last Saturday, underscoring its status as the gateway to Nigeria's prosperity and leading industrial hub in the West Africa corridor, with the commissioning of the world class Gateway International Airport by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which marked the end of a process that transformed idealistic vision into reality through strategic thinking, integrity, ingenuity and sincerity of purpose of a great leader, Prince Dapo Abiodun. The geographical location of the Gateway International Airport, which now became the cynosure of all eyes and a pride of Ogun State and Nigeria at large remained an abode of wild animals and different species of birds since the year 2006, the year of it's pronouncement without proactive action to make it a reality. Even the successive administration after the one that made pronouncement intentionally looked away until this present administration in the state came into the saddle and saw the need and exigency to make it a reality and transform the forest to fortune for Ogun State. The airport, located along Iperu-Ilisan road, Remo area of Ogun State was commissioned as premier logistics hub and passenger airport, featuring a 4-km runway, adjudged to be the longest in West Africa sub-region and capable of handling massive cargo planes with operations designed to complement and alternate with Lagos' Murtala Muhammed International Airport. With it's 4,000 meters long and 60 meters wide runway, the Airport is designed for large aircraft such as the Boeing 777 and Airbus A380, coupled with it's 82,000 square meter Apron, big enough to accommodate 20 aircraft at once. It was planned to operate commercial flights to Abuja, Port Harcourt and the international routes to London which will commence during the coming summer as announced the CEO of Air Peace, Chief Allen Onyema, making the Airport the fastest growing Airport in Africa. Speaking at the commissioning on Saturday, President Tinubu lauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for changing the face of aviation sector in Nigeria, as he thanked him for his purposeful leadership, saying that the Governor had justified the confidence reposed in him by the President and the people of Ogun State. He said: “I sincerely appreciate the opportunity we have today to celebrate the remarkable vision of a governor and his predecessors. Today, we commissioned the economic nerve centre of our corridor. “In less than seven years, you, Dapo Abiodun, have demonstrated commitment, vision, and patriotism to grow Nigeria. We celebrate you for your contribution to national development. have no regret for whatever we have done with you. As your President, I am pleased to see that the increase in revenue from federal allocation is being effectively and judiciously used to build our country. I congratulate the people of this great state for supporting a government that is delivering measurable progress, and I thank you for your continued faith in our country.” The President went further to say that the Gateway Airport is connected to investments in gas and energy, adding that the other projects of Governor Abiodun have shown his great commitment to development, which, he said, “must touch every level.” In the same vein, former President Olusegun Obasanjo extolled Governor Abiodun for building the airport, describing it as a landmark project. According to him, “I’ve landed here from Abuja, and it took me 45 minutes from here to my home, which is at least 25 minutes shorter than if I had landed in Lagos. I want to thank our governor for doing us proud in what we are commissioning today. I am happy to be a witness to this historic occasion.” Also speaking, the Senate President , Godswill Akpabio commended Governor Abiodun for building the Gateway Airport and for the judicious use of increased federal allocations, as he thanked President Tinubu for the increase in the monthly allocations to the federating units which has made them more economically viable and functional than before. In his reaction, Governor Abiodun described the President’s presence at the occasion as deeply symbolic, adding that the President had placed the nation on the path of sustainable growth, demonstrating clarity in his economic reforms, which, he said, had repositioned Nigeria as a competitive destination. The Governor recalled that when he assumed office, he realised that for Ogun State to maximise its proximity to Lagos, his government had to close the infrastructure gap, saying his administration had enhanced trade mobility and infrastructural expansion and that Ogun is one of the fastest-growing economies in Nigeria today, with its growth anchored on deliberate policies that promote infrastructure and economic development. Reeling out the remarkable achievements of his administration since 2019, Prince Abiodun said,“Beyond aviation, in the last seven years, we have made remarkable progress, with more than 1,600km of constructed or rehabilitated road infrastructure. "Noteworthy among others are the Epe-Ijebu Ode Expressway, Sagamu Interchange–Papalanto Expressway, Sango-Abeokuta Expressway, and around here, the Sagamu–Iperu–Ode Remo–Sapade Expressway, formerly known as the Old Ibadan Road, now renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Expressway (a bypass alternative to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway), as well as the Ilishan-Iperu Road and the airport road that connects to the Sagamu-Benin Expressway (which you commissioned earlier), all enhancing connectivity and reducing travel time. “In housing, the Muhammadu Buhari Estate, with 100 units of semi-detached and fully detached housing units, and the provision of over 7,000 affordable and quality homes for our citizens are creating thousands of jobs and turning our citizens from tenants to landlords. “In healthcare, besides the 140 completed and equipped primary healthcare centres, we have now completed the 200-bed Gateway Medical Centre of Excellence, which will be affiliated with the new Abuja Medical Centre of Excellence. This now offers advanced medical services, reducing the need for medical travel and positioning Ogun State as a medical tourism destination. Our investments in power, including the first phase of the 34.1-megawatt Onijanganjangan Independent Power Project, are strengthening energy supply to support industrial growth and economic expansion. “In agriculture, we are deepening mechanised farming through the provision of modern tractors, while also strengthening food security across the state. Our commitment to security is evident in the deployment of 100 pickup vehicles and other infrastructure and operational support for our law enforcement agencies. “Furthermore, the introduction of electric mobility solutions reflects our forward-looking approach to energy transition, environmental sustainability, and urban transportation, while mitigating the shocks occasioned by the sudden increase in fuel prices that we are currently witnessing.” It is against this backdrop that the management of Access Bank Plc, visited Ogun State to commend the inclusive leadership style of Governor Dapo Abiodun and his investor-friendly policies, as they solicited for robust partnership to advance the economic frontiers of the State. The Chief Executive Officer of the bank, Roosevelt Ogbonna, led the delegation to the Governor's Office at Oke-mosan, Abeokuta on Tuesday, commending the Ogun State Government for creating a business-friendly environment that continues to attract investors, noting that Ogun’s policies have gone beyond driving investment inflows, but fostering partnerships focused on long-term development and shared vision for the state’s future, describing the Gateway International Airport as a landmark project that reflects bold leadership and strategic planning. Obviously, the Gateway International Airport is a game-changer for industrial, agricultural, and logistics sectors in Nigeria, aiming to enhance Ogun State's GDP and her entire fortune. Congratulations to the good people of Ogun State around the world, as we hail the great leader of enduring legacies, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the man who genuinely and conscientiously turned a forest to fortune. APC National Convention and the exceptional coordination of Gov. Dapo Abiodun Olaniyi Ajibola In the deep analysis of the concept of leadership, John C. Maxwell submitted that '', A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way , and shows the way". Further interpretation of this definition implies that whoever qualifies to be called a leader must possess some exceptional qualities that intrinsically stand him out among others. In truth and indeed, the venue of the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) which was held between Friday and Saturday last week at the Eagle Square , Abuja was certainly a product of profound coordination, organizational savvy and astute administration. I believe individuals that constitute the national leadership of APC are very familiar with the strength and capacity of Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to have assigned him to chair such a sensitive committee that coordinated the arrangement and organisation of the venue for the event. Without exaggeration, the structural arrangement of the venue for the APC's national convention remains the first of its kind in the political history of Nigeria and rare to come by on the continent of Africa. It is difficult to believe that such a world -class arrangement could be achieved in a society like ours where lopsidedness is always the order of the day. The degree of orderliness and smoothness that characterised the APC national convention indicated purposeful leadership and robust team work. The President himself, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu confirmed the strategic planning and commitment Governor Abiodun and his team displayed to make the event a huge success without blemish, especially in the area of funding and venue setup. That is the Ogun State Governor for you, a man with exceptional creativity and strength for coordination and organisation, coupled with precise delivery in real time and with total commitment and focus. To many who are familiar with the Prince of Iperu -remo, the Governor had simply went to Abuja to replicate what he is being known for in his home state and what he has been doing in the gateway state state since 2019. Every discerning Nigerian would testify to the profound creativity and meticulous coordination the Governor exhibited during the last National Sports Festival which was held at MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Abeokuta in May 2025. The glamour, the serenity, the aesthetics and the peaceful ambience of the sports arena eloquently announced painstaking and strategic planning which ultimately made the festival a remarkable event of note. Also, the 50th anniversary of the creation of Ogun State early this year, precisely 3rd February was another testament of a leader with taste and class, the celebration in Ogun State stood out among others across the country, it was simply memorable and indelible in the consciousness of Nigerians. These distinct leadership qualities of Governor Dapo Abiodun which he continues to display at sub-national level and nationally without noise are the reason Ogun State remains the industrial capital of Nigeria and the best state in Ease of Doing Business as well as the educational capital of Nigeria among others. The Governor, while granting interview to Channels TV on the sidelines of the National convention confidently declared that the state is near Eldorado, adding that only Lagos could surpass the state in terms of economic vibrancy and social advancement. Of course, various projects of sustainable legacies embarked upon by the current administration in Ogun State have changed the story of yesterday and provided hope for better future in the state, in line with the aspirations of the state's founding fathers. The Governor has optimally explored the comparative economic advantage of location of the state, being the only neighbour of Lagos and a transit state connecting almost all the parts of Nigeria to build a formidable industrial hub that remains the first destination of choice for both foreign and local investors. Governor Abiodun has used his wide connection to reverse the lost gains of the past and strengthened the state's economy the more. A practical example is the Dangote Cement Factory at Itori, in Ewekoro Local Government. The project was abandoned halfway by the Dangote Group due to the high-handedness of the immediate past administration but Governor Abiodun used his close relationship with the Chairman of the company Alhaji Aliko Dangote to change the ugly situation and the company is now back on site to complete the gigantic cement plant. All in all, the success of the APC Convention which was made possible by the collective commitments of all, and in which the Venue Sub- committee led by Prince Dapo Abiodun played a significant role added more to the enduring feats the Governor has recorded in the political space locally and at the national level. As we congratulate the governing party for a successful outing, we make bold to say that Nigeria and indeed Nigerians need a strategic thinker like Dapo Abiodun. Ogun Takes Over Prosecution, Counters Claims in NYSC Official’s Case The Ogun State Government has dismissed claims circulating online about the strength of evidence in the case against Abass Olalekan, a Local Government Inspector (LGI) with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Abeokuta South. Mr. Olalekan was arraigned on 23 March 2026 before Magistrate Court 1 in Isabo, Abeokuta, on a two-count charge. He was subsequently granted bail, a decision the government says has been widely misinterpreted in public commentary. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN), clarified that the grant of bail was based solely on the bailable nature of the charges and does not reflect the strength or quality of the evidence. The Attorney-General’s office also confirmed that it has taken over the prosecution of the case after receiving the case file from the State Police Command. According to the statement, the charges are based on findings from a police investigation alleging that Mr. Olalekan was in a relationship with the deceased, Victoria Olapeju Ariyo, who was reportedly pregnant at the time of her death. The investigation further alleges that he encouraged the termination of the pregnancy, recommended an individual to carry out the procedure, and provided financial support for it. The deceased was said to have died following the procedure. The government described claims questioning the credibility of evidence and suggesting missing witnesses as “false and misleading,” emphasizing that the case remains at a preliminary stage. It stressed that issues relating to evidence would be determined during trial and warned against speculation that could undermine confidence in the judicial process. The Attorney-General urged the public and media to allow the court process to run its course and to disregard unverified information circulating about the case. |
From Ogun to the Nation: How Abiodun’s Learner Identification Number Became a Template for Reform By Yekini Alli In public policy, ideas rarely gain true legitimacy until they travel. A reform conceived in one place, tested under real conditions, and then adopted more broadly carries a certain authority—proof not just of concept, but of impact. This is the trajectory now defining Nigeria’s adoption of the Learner’s Identification Number (LIN), a reform that has quietly moved from state innovation to national policy. At the centre of this transition is Ogun State, where the foundations of the LIN framework were first laid under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun. What is today presented as a nationwide digital education initiative had its earliest expression in the Gateway State five years ago, where it was designed not as a symbolic gesture, but as a practical response to systemic weaknesses. For years, Nigeria’s education sector has grappled with a familiar set of challenges: fragmented data, weak accountability, and planning processes undermined by unreliable statistics. In many cases, the absence of a unified system for tracking students meant that records were inconsistent, enrolment figures were inflated, and policy decisions rested on uncertain ground. Beyond these distortions, the lack of a single, verifiable database also weakened the integrity of national education statistics, limiting effective planning and international comparability. It was within this context that Ogun State introduced the Learner’s Identification Number as part of a broader reform agenda aimed at revitalising education. The goal was both simple and ambitious—to assign every student a unique, verifiable identity that would follow them throughout their academic journey, from entry to graduation, creating a single source of truth across schools and districts. But the strength of the initiative lies not in the number itself, but in what it enables. By creating a centralised digital record for each learner, the system brings coherence to what was once a fragmented landscape. Attendance, assessment outcomes, transfers between schools, and progression milestones are captured and updated in real time. This architecture not only eliminates duplication and data loss, but also enables seamless student mobility—ensuring that learners transferring between schools can do so without disruption or administrative delays. The result is an education system that can, for the first time, see itself clearly—one in which data is no longer scattered across files and institutions, but integrated into a single, functional framework. For policymakers, this shift is transformative. Decisions about resource allocation, infrastructure, and staffing can now be guided by evidence rather than estimation. With reliable data, government can more accurately deploy teachers, identify underserved communities, and monitor outcomes over time. For school administrators and teachers, the system simplifies record-keeping, reduces paperwork, and enhances the monitoring of attendance, performance, and progression. For parents, it offers reassurance that their children’s academic records are secure, continuous, and transparent, strengthening trust in both public and private school systems. Perhaps most significantly, Ogun State’s approach did not treat compliance as optional. By linking the Learner’s Identification Number to participation in critical examinations such as the West African Senior School Certificate Examination and the Basic Education Certificate Examination, the government ensured widespread adoption. This enforcement mechanism proved decisive. It curtailed the long-standing problem of “ghost candidates,” blocked multiple registrations, reduced identity fraud, and reinforced the credibility of examination processes. In this sense, the LIN system evolved beyond a technological tool into an instrument of institutional integrity—one that strengthens accountability while safeguarding the authenticity of student identity across the education ecosystem. The impact of these changes has been far-reaching. Where inflated enrolment figures once distorted planning, the state now operates with verifiable data. Where gaps in record-keeping once hindered continuity, there is now a seamless academic trail for each learner. Efficiency has improved, accountability has deepened, and the broader education ecosystem has become more responsive. At the same time, the system enhances transparency for parents, reducing disputes over student records, results, and certification. Beyond administration, LIN is embedded within a broader digital learning ecosystem. Through Ogun State’s reform framework, students are not only identified but also connected to digital platforms where they can access lesson notes, recorded classes, and live teaching sessions, as well as retrieve certificates online. In this way, LIN serves as both an identity tool and a gateway to digital education, aligning with wider efforts to modernise learning delivery and expand access. It is little surprise, then, that the initiative began to attract attention beyond Ogun’s borders. Delegations from other states sought to understand its architecture, implementation strategy, and measurable outcomes. What they found was not an abstract proposal, but a working system—one already demonstrating gains in data integrity, administrative efficiency, and student tracking. The Federal Government’s decision to introduce a nationwide Learner’s Identification Number can therefore be seen as part of a broader pattern in governance: the scaling of proven ideas. Rather than starting from scratch, national policy has drawn from a model that has already been tested, refined, and validated at the subnational level. This process of policy diffusion underscores an important reality in Nigeria’s federal system. Innovation does not always originate at the centre. Increasingly, it emerges from states willing to experiment, adapt, and implement reforms tailored to their specific challenges. When successful, such initiatives provide a blueprint that others can follow, particularly in aligning public and private education systems under a unified framework—an effort strengthened through collaboration with bodies such as the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools. Governor Abiodun’s role in this evolution reflects a governance approach that prioritises execution alongside vision. By embedding digitisation within a clear policy framework, his administration avoided the pitfalls of reform for its own sake. Instead, it focused on solving concrete problems—ensuring that technology serves as a means to stronger institutions, not an end in itself. As Nigeria moves forward with the nationwide rollout of the Learner’s Identification Number, it does so with the advantage of precedent. Ogun State has already demonstrated that the model is workable, scalable, and impactful. The task now is to replicate these outcomes across a far more complex national landscape, while addressing practical challenges such as digital infrastructure gaps, capacity building for educators, system adoption in rural areas, and the need for strong data protection and cybersecurity safeguards. Acknowledging the origins of this reform is not merely a matter of credit. It is an opportunity to recognise the value of practical innovation—of ideas grounded in experience, tested in reality, and refined through implementation. In the unfolding story of education reform in Nigeria, the journey of the Learner’s Identification Number offers a compelling lesson: meaningful change does not always begin with sweeping national declarations. Sometimes, it starts quietly, in a single state, with a clear vision and the discipline to see it through. From Ogun to the nation, that journey is now well underway. Dapo Abiodun, restoring hope of Ogun retirees beyond rhetorics of the past By Olaniyi Ajibola Nigerians, in the past decades have witnessed the agony, frustrations and lamentations of senior citizens, who have served their father land meritoriously in the civil and public service, many of whom died in chronic misery and abject poverty while hoping for succour. Stories abound on how retirees from both state and federal employment became sick after retirement and couldn't afford medication due to delay in their gratuities and other benefits, resulting in avoidable deaths of majority of them as families were left in turmoil and serious financial predicament. In all these, Ogun State is not an exception, as at 2019, when the current Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun came into the saddle, the state was having a whopping N42 billion as unpaid pension liabilities, creating an atmosphere of palpable tension among retirees in the state; it was indeed the darkest moment for these senior citizens. The new administration, as a government of purpose and compassion came in with deliberate action to change the ugly situation and give succour to the retirees, considering their sacrifices and commitment over the years to the development of the state and the need for the state to reciprocate in the same manner. Prince Dapo Abiodun, by his family background has the satisfactory knowledge of what the civil service entails, especially as it relates to retirement, he, therefore, swung into action by clearing the backlog of the unpaid pensions and other emoluments of retirees. According to an American Public Speaker and Performer, Tia Walker,'' To care for those who once cared for us is one of the highest honours ". Of course, Governor Abiodun, unlike his predecessors believes these elderly people need to be cared for, having cared for the state and her people for decades. It is based on that mindset and profound love for the retirees that the Governor went beyond the 100 per cent benchmark set by the Federal Government under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) following the introduction of the Additional Pension Benefit(APB) initiative, offering between 116 per cent and 280 per cent of Total Annual Emoluments (TAE). The Governor, ably represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, made this known recently during the official presentation of cheques to retirees at the Oba’s Complex, Governor's Office, Oke-mosan, Abeokuta. The Governor disclosed at the venue that between 70 and 80 per cent of retiring workers would receive higher benefits under the new arrangement than what was previously obtainable as gratuity, the disclosure that elicited wide jubilation among the retirees. Prince Dapo Abiodun explained that while the Federal Government provides gratuity equivalent to 100 per cent of a retiree’s final annual salary, Ogun State has exceeded this benchmark by approving a minimum of 116 per cent, rising to as high as 280 per cent, depending on years of service. “What this means is that, unlike in the past when gratuity payments were delayed, retirees will now receive improved and timely benefits. Our minimum is 116 per cent, going up to 280 per cent, which is significantly higher than the 100 per cent benchmark". The Governor further informed the people that beyond settling outstanding obligations, the government ensured that retirees received returns on delayed remittances, thereby enhancing the value of their entitlements. He explained that under the APB framework, retirees now receive a one-off lump sum as Additional Pension Benefit, while their full pension contributions remain intact with Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs), resulting in improved monthly pension payments. “Previously, about 25 per cent of total pension savings would be taken as a lump sum. Now, that deduction is no longer necessary, as the APB serves as the lump sum, leaving the full contributions to generate stronger monthly pension payments,” he added. The governor reaffirmed that despite the enormity of fiscal responsibility, his administration has prioritised retirees’ welfare, describing their well-being as a moral obligation. The Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, while speaking described the initiative as a “game changer” that bridges the gap between the old Defined Benefit Scheme and the CPS, ensuring retirees receive immediate financial support upon exit from service. Also speaking, the Chief Economic Adviser and Commissioner for Finance, Dapo Okubadejo, traced the evolution of pension administration in the state, noting that the CPS, introduced in 2008, faced funding challenges that eroded public trust. He revealed that pension liabilities under the old Defined Benefit Scheme rose sharply—from ₦2 billion for about 8,198 retirees in 2011 to over ₦20 billion for more than 16,000 retirees by 2025—highlighting the unsustainability of the previous system. Okubadejo added that the state inherited over ₦42 billion in unpaid pension liabilities as of 2019 but has since taken decisive steps to clear the backlog and restore confidence. In the same vein, Labour leaders, including Ahmed Benco of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Akeem Lasisi of the Trade Union Congress, commended the initiative, describing it as the first of its kind in the country and a model for other states. Similarly, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Waheed Oloyede, lauded the programme as a major step toward improving retirees’ welfare, while calling for transparency in its implementation. Representatives of Pension Fund Administrators and the National Pension Commission also described the scheme as a bold and innovative reform that strengthens retirement security. At the event, cheques ranging from ₦17 million to ₦22 million were presented to 111 beneficiaries in the first phase of disbursement and the computation is based on agreed rates applied on Total Annual Emolument ( TAE) The APB initiative follows concerns raised by stakeholders after the full implementation of the CPS in Ogun State on July 2, 2025. It was subsequently adopted after extensive consultations involving organised labour, pension administrators, and government officials. Stakeholders have since described the initiative as a sustainable mechanism to bridge gaps between the CPS and the former Defined Benefit Scheme, particularly in addressing gratuity-related concerns. Under the framework, the APB is structured as a one-off payment at retirement, while balances in retirees’ Retirement Savings Accounts (RSAs) are preserved to enhance their monthly pensions. The Ogun State Government has also recorded significant interventions in the pension sector, including ₦26.35 billion paid to offset outstanding gratuity liabilities, ₦5.89 billion remitted as arrears of CPS deductions and accrued returns, ₦500 million paid as death benefits, and ₦3.19 billion in CPS remittances as of January 2026. Without mincing words, the administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun remains a steady departure from the past, which firmly rooted in moral responsibility, compassion, honesty and responsiveness. Ogun Retirees to Earn Up to 280% Benefits Under New Pension Scheme — Dapo Abiodun The Ogun State Government has announced that retirees in its civil and public service will earn significantly higher benefits under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), following the introduction of the Additional Pension Benefit (APB) initiative, which offers between 116 per cent and 280 per cent of Total Annual Emoluments (TAE). Governor Dapo Abiodun disclosed this on Tuesday during the official presentation of cheques to retirees at the Oba’s Complex. Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, the governor said between 70 and 80 per cent of retiring workers would receive higher benefits under the new arrangement than what was previously obtainable as gratuity. He explained that while the Federal Government provides gratuity equivalent to 100 per cent of a retiree’s final annual salary, Ogun State has exceeded this benchmark by approving a minimum of 116 per cent, rising to as high as 280 per cent, depending on years of service. “What this means is that, unlike in the past when gratuity payments were delayed, retirees will now receive improved and timely benefits. Our minimum is 116 per cent, going up to 280 per cent, which is significantly higher than the 100 per cent benchmark,” he said. Governor Abiodun noted that his administration inherited substantial pension and gratuity liabilities but has since taken deliberate steps to address them comprehensively. According to him, beyond settling outstanding obligations, the government ensured that retirees received returns on delayed remittances, thereby enhancing the value of their entitlements. He further explained that under the APB framework, retirees now receive a one-off lump sum as Additional Pension Benefit, while their full pension contributions remain intact with Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs), resulting in improved monthly pension payments. “Previously, about 25 per cent of total pension savings would be taken as a lump sum. Now, that deduction is no longer necessary, as the APB serves as the lump sum, leaving the full contributions to generate stronger monthly pension payments,” he added. The governor reaffirmed that despite competing fiscal demands, his administration has prioritised retirees’ welfare, describing their well-being as a moral obligation. In his remarks, the Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, described the initiative as a “game changer” that bridges the gap between the old Defined Benefit Scheme and the CPS, ensuring retirees receive immediate financial support upon exit from service. These measures, the government said, underscore its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the long-term sustainability of the pension system, while ensuring that retirees enjoy improved welfare and financial security.

The commitment was made on Monday during a strategic security meeting between representatives of the state government and key security agencies at the airport located in Ikenne Local Government Area of the state. Speaking at the meeting, the Ogun State Commissioner for Transportation, Gbenga Dairo, said the airport possesses the required infrastructure, facilities and management capacity to handle Hajj operations. He added that the facility has also been recognised by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority for the purpose. According to him, the airport forms a key component of the state government’s economic development agenda and has positioned Ogun State prominently on the global aviation map. Dairo affirmed that the airport is fully prepared for Hajj operations, noting that the NCAA had already certified the facility for domestic commercial flights after granting all necessary approvals. “The intention is for Hajj operations to take place at Gateway International Airport this year. Representatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Customs Service, the Department of State Services and the NCAA are here to outline the minimum requirements for a successful operation and assess the facilities available at the airport,” he said. He added that the agencies expressed satisfaction with the infrastructure and management capacity in place to support the operations. “We have assured them that the state government is ready to provide everything required to ensure seamless operations for pilgrims and for the benefit of the state and the country,” he said. The commissioner further disclosed that a temporary camp would be established to process about 500 pilgrims expected to depart from the airport for the pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Also speaking, the Consultant to the Gateway International Airport, Dapo Olumide, said the airport, which has already commenced commercial flight operations, is equipped with modern facilities capable of handling different categories of aircraft. He noted that security agencies would advise the state government on additional measures required to ensure successful Hajj operations, particularly as the NCAA has fully licensed the airport for such activities. According to him, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria had earlier approved the airport for Hajj operations after inspecting its facilities, while the Ogun State Muslim Welfare Board is making arrangements to airlift pilgrims to the Holy Land through the airport. Also speaking, Uyiekpen Asuen of the NCAA confirmed that the airport meets the required operational standards, having received the necessary permits to commence commercial flights. He added that the facility is among the 17 airports across the country designated for Hajj operations. Representatives of various security agencies at the meeting also outlined their operational requirements and stressed the importance of strong inter-agency collaboration to ensure smooth Hajj operations.
