BusinessHow To Set Up A Sports Betting Business In Lagos by marketresearch(op): 10:23am On Apr 28, 2016
Recently, sports betting companies have sprung up in various locations in Lagos. Unlike back in the days when they were only popular in the western countries. Nigerian Sports lovers living in Lagos are no longer satisfied being just fans, they also love to make money while rooting for their clubs during football matches.

Sports betting companies are rapidly becoming popular and highly profitable. Recent statistics shows that everyday, 1.8 Billion Naira is being spent on sports betting by Nigerian sports lovers. For an industry that is still growing, that is really huge! This shows that the industry is booming. And sport betting companies are really thriving and generating huge profits in Lagos.

With the growing love for European football and especially the English Premier League, countless numbers of sports loving fans have been able to make millions of Naira from sport betting.

IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT SETTING UP YOUR OWN SPORT BETTING COMPANY IN NIGERIA, THESE ARE THE STEPS YOU NEED TO FOLLOW TO START YOUR OWN SPORTS BETTING COMPANY IN NIGERIA:

Having conducted a proper research and you are sure that sports betting company is the right business for you, then you must register your sports betting company at the nearest corporate affairs commission. It should take you about 2 weeks to register and obtain your certificate of incorporation. With this certificate, you can open a corporate account for your sports betting company. You can also apply and get your Tax Payers ID.

Visit the National Lottery Commissions of Nigeria (NLC), to apply and obtain a license for the company. The NLC is the body regulating the industry in Nigeria.

Before you can be issued a license to operate your own sports betting company in Nigeria, you must have a physical address – that is an office where you operate from. The truth is that; you can only buy people’s trust if you have a standard betting office. That is why you must rent an office that befits the kind of business you are into.

Set up an official website for your company where people can easily visit and know exactly how your sports betting company operates. Your official website is an important tool in this line of business, because it is part of what you will use to announce the various winners daily, and all the necessary information that you would want to pass across to your customers and the general public.

Unlike the old days, when you must visit an outlet before you are able to place your bet, these days, you can place your bet from your computer or from your smart phones. Hence, you will need to create a secure and enabling platform where people can make use of their credits cards to place their bets. It if your betting platform is proven to be insecure, you are likely going to lose most of your customers.

The numbers of outlets your sports betting company has determines how successful your company can become. Even though it is expensive opening outlets in different parts of the town, it is very important to do so because majority of those who engage in sports betting in Lagos prefer to physically visit betting offices to place their bets as against doing it online.

If you are in Lagos and you love sports, you would know that there are quite a number of sports betting companies in Nigeria- especially in Lagos. Therefore, to succeed in the industry, you must engage in continuous promotion of your sports betting company.

You can sponsor sport programs on radio and TV station. You can also place adverts on National newspapers, amongst other.

Just like starting any other company in Nigeria, starting a sports betting company in Nigeria comes with its own challenges; it requires dedication and hard work to stay afloat.

Hello, This is the reason why African is so backward, Its because of people like you. If you google snail farming, 99% of the result you get will be from white men, at the end of the day its not fully applicable to you here in Nigeria. And someone took out his time to go ahead and research this information for free without any cost to you and without any misinformation about how the business runs and see what you came up to post. Its amazing how social media and internet has made people so rude and disrespectful.

THE CONSUMER PROTECTION COUNCIL, (CPC) , LAST WEEKEND, CLAMPED DOWN ON TRADERS AT OREGUN AREA OF LAGOS STATE FOR SELLING FAKE GAS AND FUEL FILTERS AND OTHER MECHANICAL PRODUCTS.

CPC-logoThe Head of Lagos Operational Office, CPC, Mr. Joshua Ngada, said CPC has the mandate to protect the interest of the gas and fuel filters consumers and promoting their welfare.

He said that the Council is determined to make sure that all products that are hazardous and substandard are removed from the markets. According to him, this is done through routine surveillance and consumer tips from the public.

He informed that the council had received consumer tips that fake gas and fuel filters and products are being sold in certain locations in Lagos, especially in Oregun, Ikeja “We went into surveillance and discovered that several outlets are selling these components that have identified some of the shops with what they are selling.

After the due diligence and we have identified the source, we have to now remove the fake gas and fuel filters and products from the market”, he said. Similarly, the council’s Head of Surveillance and Enforcement, Lagos Operational office, Mr. Camillus Anyawu who led the enforcement exercise told newsmen after the exercise said the enforcement was to protect consumers’ interest and right.

According to him, many consumers are ignorant of what they are buying but when they are sensitized, they know better. “Education has to come from two angles because the person selling has to inform the consumer what the gas filter product is all about.

The consumers have opportunities to 3 Rs, repair, return or refund but unfortunately, many consumers are not aware while traders too don’t give room for such”, he stated.

The Importance Of Fuel Filters And How It Can Influence Your Fuel Pump

In order to know the true importance of fuel filters, or any automotive part for that matter, it is crucial to know where they are located and what their functions or purposes are. The fuel filters are positioned between the cars’ fuel pump and the fuel injectors.

Its primary purpose is basically to aid the fuel pump’s performance by filtering out deposits in the gasoline being transferred to the engine. More specifically, as the fuel pump supplies gas to the engine, it is the fuel filter’s job to serve as a sort of barrier, ensuring that only gas of an acceptable purity is pumped into the engine.

In this way, the fuel filter eliminates much of the contamination in the fuel, protecting the fuel pump and fuel injectors as the gas is sprayed into the engine.

AgricultureHow To Start A Snail Farming by marketresearch(op): 6:02pm On Apr 23, 2016
In the past, the only way to get snails was to go into the bush and gardens to hunt them after a rainfall or at night. This was because most people did not know that snails could be reared domestically just like poultry and animals like chickens and goat. Snail farming is a very interesting business not just because it’s a highly profitable business, but because it is easy and fun.

1. Location and environment of your snail farm

The best environment to situate your snail farm is a low plain, downhill site. The farm should not be exposed to excessive wind because too much wind would dry out and dehydrate your snails. It is best to have trees like banana or plantain planted around your snail farm.

Snails cannot be reared on concrete floors. The floor of your snailery must be made up of balanced soil, Soil that is not too dry and not waterlogged either. You should also make sure the soil of your snail farm is not acidic or clayey as this may be harmful to the snails.

The best soil for rearing snails is a sandy-loamy soil that has low water retention. The soil of your snail farm is highly critical to the growth and survival of the snails because snails derive calcium used for forming its shell from the soil. It also gets its water from the soil and lays its eggs on soil.

Depending on the scale of snail farming you want to go into, your snails can be reared in a large covered box if you are considering small scale snail farming, or in a concrete pen with soil flooring if you want to rear snails on a large scale.

The soil should be about 10 inches deep and you should use fresh leaves or wet clothes to control the temperature of your snailery. To protect your snails from predators and pests like snakes, rats and termites, you should make a barbed wire fence around your snail’s pen.

2. Learn everything you can about snails

3. Conduct feasibility study

4. Prepare a business plan

5. Sourcing for snails

You would need some snails to start up your snail farm and you must ensure that they are fertile and in perfect condition. The best place to source for your initial stock is in the bushes.

Snails gotten directly from their natural habitat are in the best condition because they have not been exposed to too much sunlight which would dehydrate them and make them less fertile.

If you feel getting snails from the bush would be too much of a stress for you, then you can buy snail eggs from the market and cover them up with cocoyam leaves in a plastic bowl with wet sand in it and leave them to hatch.

The hatching process would take about 21-28 days then you can start feeding and taking care of your baby snails and watch your snails multiply in numbers because snails reproduce fast and in large numbers.

Before you rush off to the market to get your snail eggs, you should know about the different species of snails and which ones are best for rearing.

6. Marketing your snails

7. Snail feeding

Snails are very versatile feeders. They can feed on anything from leaves to fruits. Snails can feed on cocoyam leaves, cassava and okra leaves, cabbage, lettuce, pawpaw as well as eggplant leaves.

Snails can also feed on fruits like mangoes, banana, pawpaw, tomatoes and pears.

It is important that you feed your snails with the right food that would support tissue growth and supply calcium needed to grow their shells.

There are specially formulated snail feed in the market that you can use to feed your snails for improved growth and productivity.

8. Harvesting your snails

When harvesting your snails, it is important to handle them carefully. You can harvest them into clean plastic containers, baskets, bowls, or in a box to be carried to the point of sale.

Do not overload the containers. 10 kg in each container is just okay so that the snails don’t get hurt or stressed.

Prior to the Portuguese name of Lagos (which means “lakes”) being adopted, Lagos was originally called Eko, which stems from either Oko (Yoruba: “cassava farm”) or Eko (“war camp”), by its Bini conquerors.

By 1851 after the abolition of the slave trade, there was a great attraction to Eko by the repatriates. First, were the Saro, mainly freed Yoruba captives, and their descendants who, having been set ashore in Sierra Leone, responded to the pull of their homeland, and returned in successive waves to Lagos.

Armed with the privilege of Western education and Christianity, the Saro made remarkable contributions to education and the rapid modernization of Lagos.

The Brazilian returnees, the Aguda, also started arriving in Lagos in the mid-19th century and brought with them the skills they had acquired in Brazil.

Most of them were master-builders, carpenters and masons, and gave the distinct characteristics of Brazilian architecture to their residential buildings at Bamgbose and Campos Square areas, which form a large proportion of architectural richness of the city.

Ultimately, the impressive road network in Lagos must be attributed to the British colonialists who designed and built many of the roads in Lagos today especially in areas such as Ikoyi, Yaba, Lagos Island, Surulere, and other parts of the mainland.
1.Allen Avenue

Allen Avenue is one of the most famous streets in Ikeja; it was initially a residential area with refined and urbane accommodation, but now has offices, shopping malls, eateries and nightclubs for the opulent. It is easily accessible and well connected to some roads in Ikeja such as Opebi and Adeniyi Jones.
2. Broad Street

Broad-Street-Lagos (2)
Broad Street, located in Lagos Island, and is one of the oldest streets in Lagos. The street is one of a kind, home to several financial banks. Its colonial and modern architecture mesh seamlessly in a manner quite descriptive of Lagos itself.

You will find some of the tallest buildings in Lagos here. Normally, you will find bankers, corporate officers and business people walking in this area. There are a few restaurants but Broad street is mostly all business.
3.Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue

Ozumba

Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue is located in Victoria Island. This street is one of the most elegant and famous streets on the Island. It’s a street with beautiful hotels, shiny office buildings, and leisure and event centres.

1004 Flats used to be the star of this road. These apartment blocks have recently been eclipsed by the Civic Center and Civic Towers, 2 beautiful modern architectural pieces that have become first choice for landscape photographers.
4. Bode Thomas Street

Bode Thomas Street is one of the most famous streets in Lagos. It was named after Chief Bode Thomas, a Nigerian Politician and statesman.

The street is located close to Iponri in Surulere, and adjourns the nearly as popular Adeniran Ogunsanya Street. After the recent uplift of the road network in Surulere by the former governor, Babatunde Fashola, Bode Thomas has become one of the busiest yet most attractive roads in Surulere. The street has quite a lot to offer anyone thinking of relocating to Surulere.
5. Ademola Adetokunbo Street

adetokunbo-ademola (1)
This famous street was named after Sir Adetokunbo Adegboyega Ademola, the former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and the son of King Ladapo Ademola II, the Alake of Egbaland.

The street is known for its range of elegant buildings used for offices, shopping malls and finance houses. It is also home to a few restaurants, and by night, is host to some of the most happening clubs on the Island.

Lagos has come a long way since its first storey building was erected 170 years ago in Badagry by the Anglican church. The building was occupied by Samuel Ajayi Crowther, the first African C.M.S Bishop, and it was from here that he translated the Holy Bible from English to Yoruba.

But exactly how far has Lagos come in 170 years? How much higher have we gone since the translation of the bible? Like Babel, has Lagos gone up too fast too soon and now finds itself stunted?

In 1979, the Lagos skyline was majestically interrupted by NECOM House, standing at 160 meters, with 32 floors and dwarfing every other structure before it.

NECOM House

Compared to the one-storey Babel Tower of Badagry, NECOM House was literally touching the heavens. At the time, it was thought that the NECOM building would be the first of many skyscrapers in Lagos as the city took its rightful place among the legion of mega cities in the world.

Intercontinental Hotel, Lagos

It is a little surprising therefore, that in the 37 years since, very few other builders have dared the majesty of the NECOM House anywhere in the country. Of course there have been a few pretenders to the throne – the Intercontinental Hotel (105 meters) in Victoria Island which has 23 floors, and the Union Bank Plc head office standing at 124 meters with 28 floors.

Yet NECOM stands head and shoulders above all else.

Past masters must be recognised and the aptly named Independence House (103 meters), completed in 1960, and which served as the head quarters of the Ministry of Defence for many years, stood proudly as the tallest building in Lagos until the completion of NECOM House.

Union Bank Building

In fact, NECOM House stands as the tallest building in West Africa…for now. But, how does the ageing Nigerian champion rank on the continent, especially against the lofty contenders from South Africa? Let’s compare.

The tallest building in South Africa is the tallest building in Africa, and its called the Carlton Centre, located in Johannesburg. This towering edifice casts its shadow from 223 meters high, a whopping 63 meters more than our local champion, NECOM House.

Carlton Centre is followed by the Ponte City Apartments also in Johannesburg, and standing at an impressive 173 meters. Does this then put our NECOM House in 3rd place? Sadly, no.

UAP Tower

The bronze medal actually goes to a late challenger from Kenya called the UAP Tower, completed in 2015 and rising 163 meters into the Nairobi skies.

With barely 3 meters shorter than the UAP Tower, NECOM House however completes the African quartet of skyscrapers.

How do these 4 African super structures fair against opposition from the rest of the world, starting with the Asian challengers from India and China, and then the skyscraper capital of the Middle East, Dubai.

Before we commence our journey beyond the shores of Africa, let us note a few interesting points – a skyscraper is a building of 150 meters or more in height, and the first skyscraper in the world was built in the united States of America in the 1800’s.

Nigeria therefore has ONE completed skyscraper – NECOM House, and it resides proudly in Lagos.

HealthMust Read - Avoid Killer Imported Tomato Paste by marketresearch(op): 10:34am On Apr 19, 2016
Chief Eric Umeofia produces tomato paste locally and has revealed that tomato paste importers import substandard tomato paste which is very harmful to health.

Chief Eric Umeofia, Chief Executive Officer, EriscoBonpet Group, who disclosed that tomato paste importers have imported tomatoes pastes from China into Nigeria are substandard, said that the simplest way to stop dumping is to ban importation of finished goods.

Umeofia whose company produces tomato paste locally, said: “Importation is doing a lot of damage to us. The influx of foreign goods is one of the dangers the Nigerian manufacturers and producers are facing, because the cost of production here is quite high. The power situation, the cost of diesel, compared to production cost in Asia, we discover that the goods that come in here from those places would be far cheaper and at times, leave only a small margin between our cost of production and cost of sales. So, it is a very big problem, so many producers cannot just survive.

“Fiscal policy should be put in place to discourage much of the importations of these goods and services. High tariffs should be placed on those goods they know that we have the capability of producing here in Nigeria. It is not too difficult to take a census or to sample goods that are being produced here and such goods; government should have a deliberate policy from Ministry of Finance hiking the tariffs of the imported ones.

“That is the simplest way to stop it and it takes some good patriotic and political will to do this, and I encourage the government and the CBN to do this for the good of us all. I agree that the world is a global market right now, but we have to look at our position, we are a consuming nation. Those that are exporting to us right now, we must realise that there was a time when they had a closed market, and they did not allow goods from outside their country to flow in,” he said.

According to Umeofia, a study conducted by NAFDAC recently, revealed that majority of the tomato pastes in the market across the country fall short of required standard.

“The laboratory analysis of study which covers 27 main markets and four major supermarkets in Lagos indicated that 286 tomato paste out of 298 sampled fall short of the codex standards and the Nigerian Industrial Standards has specified that tomato content should be 28 percent minimum.”

He said that another survey carried out by Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology, NISLT, showed that of 16 tomatoe paste samples analysed for 13 parameters selected, some manufacturers compromised standard in area of amount of lycopene, starch content and heavy metal contamination. He said it will be in the interest of local manufacturers for imported tomato paste brands in retail packs from China and other high risk countries to be suspended and immediate mop ups of those brands of tomatoes paste already in circulation.

“Apart from killing Nigerians with their substandard tomato pastes, these people are also killing the Nigerian economy as they dump these substandard tomato pastes with subsidies from their home government. In the end, genuine manufacturers of tomato pastes find it difficult to remain in business as the consumers unfortunately go for this perceived cheaper tomato paste brands, not knowing they are paying for ill health and untimely death,” he stated.

Umeofia commended CBN for its recent monetary policy tools, adding that the forex measure is a welcome development which will help reshape and reposition the real sector. He further urged CBN to monitor all the banks to ensure that the forex made available is not diverted to traders and Bureau De Change dealers, stressing that government should focus on industrialising Nigeria and not to trade the country away.

The question must be asked, what kind of person robs a hospital? First. Then, what kind of person robs a hospital in Ajangbadi?

Life in places like Ajangbadi is hard enough. The state of the hospitals in the area – private or pubic is best imagined considering how bad hospitals on the Island and highbrow mainland areas like Ikeja and Surulere are.

So to imagine robbing an already poorly equipped hospital catering to several thousands of people in Ajangbadi really worries the mind.

And the mind of an Ajangbadi hospital thief is the best place to start looking for clues as to why this sort of act will be done in the first place. It takes an impoverished mind to commit a crime such as this, and that mind must have been impoverished from birth, and reinforced with even greater depravement during the formative years and beyond.

That mind is bereft of compassion. That mind has lost conscience. Yet that mind cannot truly be blamed for its actions. It has been failed by society, and so in a sense we are all to blame, for where people do not speak up against the injustices carried out by successive governments, creating an environment which allows young fertile minds to decay, then both the perpetrators and us the silent bystanders must take responsibility.

Lagos like many cities in the country may have lost whole generations of young minds who simply do not and frankly cannot know right from wrong, and are quick to justify their actions by pointing to those who came before them and robbed schools, hospitals, and children with pens and now smart phones, if not with guns and machetes.

Sadly, the hospital thieves like many before them and many after, will be shot quietly by policemen who cannot be bothered with prosecution paperwork. This harsh treatment creates a cycle of violence, as the criminal minds are then conditioned for the worst possible outcome, and therefore sink deeper into the darkness which clouds their judgement.

And so we soldier on in our beloved Lagos hearts in mouth, blood pressure constantly on the up, as we hustle for breakthrough.

It is no wonder the churches and religious houses continue to grow – our salvation it seems, remains in God.
