BusinessRe: Excited Man Flaunts Bundle Of Naira After Exchanging 800 Cedis (Photos/Video) by Markkito: 8:04pm On Jan 10
Richtaiwo:
Contrary to the drama he’s trying to stage, nothing, absolutely nothing, is easy anywhere in the world. Life is not a roadside promo where currencies are exchanged with vibes and confidence.

So, since he’s proudly waving that bundle of naira and announcing it equals 800 cedis, perhaps he should also enlighten us, how long did it take him to earn it? Or is he implying that the same sweat that coughs out N800 in Nigeria will magically summon 800 cedis in Ghana?

Yes, a thousand dollars today is roughly N1.5 million. Very impressive. But let’s not insult basic reasoning, is the effort required to earn N1,000 the same effort needed to earn $1,000? Is it equally likely that someone will casually gift you N1,000 the same way an American will casually gift you $1,000? If that were true, birthdays in Lagos would look like Wall Street bonuses.

We constantly hear of people earning $2,500–$3,000 monthly abroad. Fair enough. But has anyone ever heard of someone in US, same job category, same skill level as Nigeria, earning $300,000 monthly in the US? If yes, please provide evidence, not vibes.

Yes, the naira is weak. Nobody is disputing that. But turning every exchange rate comparison into a circus act is unnecessary exaggeration. Currency value is not a comedy skit, and economics is not impressed by social media mockery. Let’s tone down the theatrics and apply a little sense, just a little.

Meanwhile, Ghana redominated its currency not quite long ago. I know most don't even understand what that means.
it's quite 'easy' to make that 800 cedi actually. A by-day construction labourer is paid 150, 200 cedis. He does 4 days of construction work, he makes 800 cedis
BusinessRe: MTN Nigeria Rebounds To Become Largest Revenue Contributor To MTN Group by Markkito: 4:34pm On Aug 18, 2025
What's the position of MTN Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa in their respective countries' Telco rankings? Ate they number 1, 2 or 3? The report should have added. And what's their respective subscriber numbers. Ghana is the least populated among these 3 countries, and may have the least MTN subscribers, so 'pound for pound ', Ghana should be the highest MTN contributor

TravelRe: Ghana Kicks Against US Visa Restrictions, Cites Reciprocal Imbalance by Markkito: 12:28pm On Jul 12, 2025
naptu2:
Some say that the visa restrictions were imposed because of the African countries' refusal to accept 3rd country deportees (South Sudan is the only African country that has accepted to take 3rd country deportees from the US), but the American Government denies this and says that the restrictions were imposed based on the principle of reciprocity.

However, African countries like Nigeria and Ghana have said that the US action does not follow the principle of reciprocity and that it has actually created an imbalance in favour of the Americans.

These are the countries that are affected by the restrictions.

Here 31 African countries affected by 3-month US visa validity

1. Angola

2. Benin

3. Burkina Faso

4. Burundi

5. Cabo Verde

6. Cameroon

7. Chad

8. Congo Brazzaville

9. Congo DR

10. Cote d’Ivoire

11. Equatorial Guinea

12. Eritrea

13. Ethiopia

14. Gambia

15. Ghana

16. Libya

17. Madagascar

18. Malawi

19. Mozambique

20. Niger

21. Nigeria

22. Sao Tome and Principe

23. Sierra Leone

24. Somalia

25. South Sudan

26. Sudan

27. Tanzania

28. Togo

29. Uganda

30. Zambia

31. Zimbabwe
The visa restrictions are majorly due to visa overstays. I'm the case of Ghana, we're doing 21% visa overstays against the US' threshold of 15%. Ghana. Nigeria and the other affected countries should be concerned about how to reduce their visa overstays to the US threshold
BusinessRe: Top 10 Strongest Currencies In Africa And World In 2024 by Markkito:
The list is not correct. You rank currencies based on WHETHER THEY APPRECIATE OR DEPRECIATE AGAINST THE DOLLAR IN THE YEAR/PERIOD UNDER REVIEW. just ranking them based on their nominal value, on if for example 15 cedis = 1 dollar is 'bigger' than say 400 naira=1 dollar is childish and unintelligent

That 15 cedis is actually 15,000 old Ghana cedi. Supposing Ghana just removed 3 zeros instead of 4 in their currency redenomination (and nothing stopped them from doing so), so that 1 dollar=1,500, would it still rank better than the naira? No. Is 1,500 not the same as 15,000 old cedi or 15 new cedi? Is the value not the same?

Should tell you how simplistic these currency rankings are. People should learn to be smart. Bloomberg offers the best currency rankings

What people don't also know is that you can cage goats in a place and feed them too. Now, to feeding, unlike cows and rams. Goats can each so many things, they are not that selective. The give birth twice in a year and multiply very fast. The secret of being successful and making good money is with choice of breed. I have first hand experience from my uncle.

His choice is a cross breed of the tall Fulani he-goats and the dwarf she-goats from the South their out put is fantastic.

You can sell one for as much as #250,000 and especially during festive period the price is even higher.

You get quick returns from goats if you have them in large numbers.

They are a special delicacy too, and well sought after.

Most of all is the ease of feeding them and they are a very neat animal too.
Wish it were so easy. Inbreeding is a major problem in goat farming and if you're able to control it, you'd get better, bigger, healthier goats. Thieves LOVE goats, so security should be good

Where did Jesus command Christians to fast.....and how long did he say the fasting should last?
Matthew 9:14 Then the disciples of John came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?” 15 And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.
Etc etc. I won't quote all the scriptures on fasting. Bottomline is if you're a proper christian AND IS BAPTIZED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT, he'd show you the benefits of fasting, the proper way to fast, pray etc. True Christianity goes beyond rote learning of christian literature, we have a holy ghost that's a living being that can be gotten by christians and helps ease the christian life

I was in Ghana for studies. Your food can cause alot of gastrointestinal issues; such as kooko, ulcers etc.. I love the angwa mo you wrote about, but I take it with beef tomatoe stew not the raw grinded pepper..
Stomach ulcers are caused by bacteria and abuse of painkillers not by spicy food etc. Ghanaians we eat raw ground peppers and the cooked ones in equal measure and Ghanaians are masters at food combinations, so trust our food combinations, no matter how odd some may seem. grin Many of ur foods may not look attractive, I won't lie, but they're nice. Have an open mind and try them you'd be glad

Then you're majoring on the minor since you can easily get your vitamin C from FRUITS..

The major
1. Some other nutrients in them are brought out by heat.
2. The antinutrients in tomatoes and peppers are destroyed by heat.
3. Raw onions are too harsh for most people's stomach and can do physical damage, especially if you have ulcer. Better to steam it lightly.
Thing is we eat both cooked and uncooked 'stew' in equal measure so no problems. In fact we overcook our soups etc so if we get to eat raw uncooked 'stew' for a balance/change, we like it

To be honest, you people hardly do.
Leafy vegetables are not an integral part of Ghanaian cuisine.

As for that angwa mo, I'm going to try making that soon.
I'm actually agreeing with him, and also adding that our 'healthier go tos' are the raw ground tomatoes, onions and peppers instead of always frying them and thereby reducing their 'healthiness' like you people tend to do.
In Ghana it's usually people in our northern parts who heavily patronize leafy greens

Oh MJ...

I don't have a biased mind towards food. I normally like to try new food. Different cultures. Anything. So I am not rejecting.

Cocoyam leaf is a delicacy in ghana o. It's called contomere and I once heard a Nigerian presenter on radio argue with another Ghanian presenter that no one eats it in Nigeria and its poor people food the way they attacked her. Even though I noticed she was trying to be careful with her words.

They really don't have leaves in ghana. Although depending on the area one resides. Cabbage and lettuce is more common. Imagine cooking Egusi with cabbage or lettuce.

They will be exited... They are always proud of what they have. I once heard a Ghanian say banku is the best food in the WORLD... Someone who has never traveled out of Ghana before. (Which I like them for their patriotism)

I don really suffer for food matter though... I have a dentist friend who we once went to market to buy stuff together. We bought stuff... G/oil, tomatoes, pepper etc. Me thinking we were going to cook stew and rice.

Only for him to boil rice and and start using their local mortar to mash pepper, tomatoes and onions. Which is the black bowl in the picture and serves as a mortar for blending and plate or bowl for eating. (which is basically the stuff in the picture you posted) when he started adding the vegetable oil I asked him what he was doing he said he was making stew. It was late but I insisted he fry and cook the pepper Abi sauce the normal way before we ate that night. Imagine just boiling rice and add ground pepper and tomatoes with oil.

I don't know if it has a different name... But everyone calls it pepper with whatever maybe because they know I am Nigerian.

I will find out if it has a different local name!
You saying Ghanaians we don't eat leafy vegetables etc. We're eating raw ground tomatoes, peppers and onions which's healthier than frying these vegetables in oil like you like to do, that one too you don't like? You people eat raw garden eggs etc. the 'braised rice (angwa mo literally oil rice) with raw ground pepper etc is very nice

Just this today Sunday I ate cocoyam leaves...

And banku.

Now I have eaten this combination before.(cocoyam leaves and banku) I had my throat scratching me through out the day the first time.

The second time I saw it at a restaurant I ordered it... Because it looked enticing because they added Egusi. I had same effect or result- itchy throat.

Now back to today I was with this person. And she managed to convince me that cocoyam leaves don't cause scratching throat.... According to her maybe it wasn't prepared very well the first and second time I ate ... Hers was different and would not be same.

Ok... Let me try.

So she brings 2 wrapped bankus and... well, some cocoyam leaves mixed with Egusi. Looked really good. Most Ghanian dishes (my opinion) doesn't really look good. This one looks good to go. So I decide inside me... yeah, she is right. Here's is a different mix. Probably home made.

So I dip the banku in the soup and swallow, left for about 2 morsels of banku. But end up with a damn scratchy throat. She ends up consoling me and recommends I get some syrup, or sweet at a pharmacy which I forget the name now. (I didn't get, but OK now.)

Now to your picture... It's just ground pepper and onions in that mix. Maybe a bit of shitoh at the side I see.

I have eaten this mix before and I can tell you it's just bland old peppers. The only thing exciting here will be the fish. That's all.

I personally think Ghanaians just cook and eat just to survive. Not for any form of variety or to make eating interesting. I get bored just thinking of their meals and eating becomes a chore. That is me personally.

Looking at the picture I just think we fantasize about things we don't have or never tried before. That is why the grass is always greener on the other side.

I mean, who would think anyone would ever fantasize about eating peppers and fish? 🤷

Seems very basic!
Cocoyam leaves stew goes well with yam, plantain, rice not banku. No proper Ghanaian does that combination. When cocoyam leaves are old they tend to itch the throat. Fresher younger leaves don't itch
