Firstclass newsline gathered that the patience Jonathan said, "I will make sure that I support my sister, the incoming First Lady to make sure Nigerian women are safe." The first lady spoke at the inauguration of the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association Skills Acquisition Centre, in Abuja on Thursday. She said that the President was able to complete his four-year tenure in office with ease because of the support he got from the military and security chiefs in the country. The President's wife said that the security chiefs in the country were committed to democratic growth and were ready to sacrifice their lives for national unity and democracy. Mrs. Jonathan, who commended the service chiefs and the women association for their support for the President especially during the Boko Haram insurgency, urged them to sustain the patriotic efforts. She urged the women in the society to pray for the security chiefs to ensure that their efforts were successful. "I want to thank all the Service Chiefs and all women associations for their support for the President and my office. "You have really sacrificed a lot to ensure Nigeria is safe. Don't be tired but ensure that Nigeria is safe. Pray for their success in finally keeping the nation safe," she added. Mrs. Jonathan, who commended DEPOWA for the establishment of the skills acquisition centre, advised the women to promote the use of dialogue in the resolution of disputes in the country. Firstclass learnt that a female pupil of the Fagge Special Primary School, Kano, has been stabbed to death by yet to be identified killers and dumped in the school pit toilet. It was learnt that the remains of the pupil, who had yet to be identified, was discovered at about 1pm on Wednesday. Sources at the school told firstclass newsline that the assailants had scaled the school fence to commit the "atrocity". Firstclass newsline was told that the attackers abducted the victim and another pupil while school activities were in progress. It was learnt that the two pupils were hacked and dumped in a pit toilet in the school. The female pupil died, while the male pupil reportedly survived the attack. When firstclass newsline crew visited the scene, it was observed that the pit toilet, where they were dumped, had been locked. However, a night guard on the premises, Mallam Ibrahim Sariki, told firstclass newsline that the incident was shocking to everybody. He said, "About 1 pm, some hoodlums jumped over the school fence and abducted two pupils ─ a male and a female ─ who were dragged into the toilet and subsequently stabbed in the head. The female pupil died, but the male pupil survived the attack." The PPRO, ASP Musa Majiya, confirmed the incident. He said immediately the police were alerted to the incident by the school authorities, the police moved to the scene of the crime. He said, "On arrival, the police team met the victims in a pool of blood. The policemen rushed them to a hospital, where the female pupil was confirmed dead. The male pupil is receiving treatment." Majia said that investigation into the incident had commenced, adding that the motive behind the act had yet to be confirmed. Firstclass newsline gathered that the authorities of the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED), Ijanikin, on Thursday said that Nigeria's tertiary institutions could not scale through international rating because of their irregular academic calendars. Mr Wasiu Bashorun, the Provost, AOCOED, Ijanikin, told newsmen in Lagos, on the sidelines of the send forth for the college's former registrar, Mr Bola Disu. A Cross Section of Final Year Students "If you look at the institutions of higher learning in the country, students' union leaders, the authorities and government are all getting it wrong. "Each and everyone of us is supposed to know the rules and guidelines of our institutions. "So, what I am talking about now is that we need to know the dictates, rules, ethics and confines of the institution, and work within them. "And these are parts of the problems we have been having in our tertiary institutions, not necessarily AOCOED, because I can speak of tertiary institutions in Lagos State. "The union leaders do not know their limits, and the school authorities are not forceful enough in enforcing them. "It took me a long time to realise that beyond AOCOED, it is high time that the government supports the school authorities in decision-making. "Especially decisions to ensure that academic activities are not disrupted as a result of unionism, students' unrest and so on. "This is the most obvious reason for the irregular academic calendar, and we need to ensure that it is limited,'' the provost said. He said, however, that anyone who had gone beyond his or her confines to contribute meaningfully to the development of the society should be appreciated and rewarded. According to him, Disu contributed meaningfully to the growth of the institution and put in over two decades of meritorious service to the institution. He said that just as people were being rewarded for meritorious service, so also should there be sanctions on defaulters, to strike a balance. Disu said on the occasion that those personnel in the tertiary institutions, whether as a vice-chancellor, provost, lecturer or student, all had sacrosanct duties to perform. "It is must be done to the best of our abilities, because it is not by chance that we were given the opportunities. "We have to mould the children, the future of the country; we cannot afford to toy with them, we must put in our best,'' he said. Disu said that the incoming government had been given a historic duty to perform, and should give education a priority. "Education is not an industry to be treated like any other industry. "As far back as the `50s and `60s, Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo of the defunct Western Region put 50 per cent of the budgetary allocation into education. "If today we are celebrating 10, eight or 13 per cent of the budgetary allocation to education, then we need to do more. "UNESCO has said 26 per cent; but for us in the tertiary institutions, it should be more than that. "Because if you get it right in education, you get it right in any other sector. But if you get it wrong in education, then forget about other sectors. "The new government must endeavour to systematically increase the budgetary allocation in education,'' the former registrar said. According to him, education is expensive and may not get the result in a short while, but will definitely reap a good fruit. "A Yoruba adage says that if you build bridges and structures and you do not build children, the children will grow up to destroy the bridges and structures,'' he said. Disu, however, chastised the school authorities on how they utilised their allocations. "It is now left for us in the industry to be mindful of how we spend the allocation. "To whom much is given, much is expected; so, whether a vice-chancellor, provost, registrar, please ensure you carry out your duty because it is a sacred duty,'' he said. The former registrar said that with good education, there will be no terrorist attacks. "Our children in the North-East will realise that they have a stake in the country; thus the need for their protection," Disu added. Firstclass newsline learnt that the decision was taken at a meeting of the council, presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan. Minister of Information, Patricia Akwashiki, and Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau, briefed State House correspondents of the meeting's outcome. Shekarau listed the affected colleges of education as Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo (now Adeyemi University of Education, Ondo); Federal College of Education, Zaria (now Federal University of Education, Zaria); Federal College of Education, Kano (now Federal University of Education, Kano); and Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri (now Alvan Ikoku University of Education, Owerri). The minister explained that the colleges of education were part of the 21 federal colleges of education that had been awarding degree programmes in the last three decades under the close supervision of the different universities they are affiliated to. He said the council considered the need for further quality in teaching service, hence the conversion of the colleges to universities since more graduates would be needed in the teaching profession. "We are heading to having more graduates in the teaching profession and hence the need for these universities to produce graduates in education. If we need quality education, we need quality teachers," he said. Shekarau explained that the next step was for the Ministry of Justice to prepare amendment to the laws establishing the colleges. This, he explained, would be followed by some administrative changes. The minister added that the council had approved the establishment of the Federal University of Health Sciences in Otukpo, Benue State. Until the approval, the university was said to be the College of Medical Health Sciences under the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi. He said the institution had now been granted autonomy as part of continuous efforts to ensure quality graduates into the various fields of medicine and sciences. "So, a total of five universities were approved at the council meeting today," the minister added. Source>> http://www.firstclassnewsline.net/2015/05/fg-upgrades-four-colleges-of-education.html |
There are traits that some people cannot drop. It is like hoping that a right-handed spouse will one day become left-handed: a classical case of waiting for Godot! If you are looking for a wife or a husband, please be wary of these 12 groups of people. Those who can never apologise They would hurt you, annoy you, disappoint you, but would never apologise, because they believe that it would belittle and demean them. When you are wrong, you apologise to them, and when you are right, you still apologise to them, hoping that that they would change. But they never do. Soon you start to feel irritated and agitated. The love and respect you felt for them start to wear out. Those who can never say thank you Whatever you do for them, they are never grateful. They make statements like: "Why should I say thank you when you are just doing your duty?" Some would say that their gratitude is in their heart. So, do I have to open your heart to see the gratitude inside and get it? Ingratitude is an attitude that causes irritation, frustration and unhappiness. Such people also believe the world owes them a lot. They go around their activities with an entitlement mentality. They are difficult to please. Those who have excessive libido or inadequate libido Sexual intercourse is a very important factor in marriage, but when you have a spouse that needs it for breakfast, lunch and supper, it becomes difficult to have any peace in the family. Infidelity also knocks on the door. On the other hand, when you have a spouse that hates sex or thinks that sex should be an annual event undertaken during the wedding anniversary or birthday celebration, then you know that you have some real trouble in the house. Infidelity is also usually a challenge. Sexual problem is worsened by the fact that it is one topic that couples find difficult to discuss with even those who genuinely want to help resolve the marital rift. Men who think women are to be seen but not heard Some men still live in the 18th century, in spite of the depth of education they profess. It is true that marriage is not a zone for feminist crusade, but if a man has archaic views about women, then please avoid him like an Ebola patient. Watch out for statements like: "How can an ordinary woman want to be the CEO?" "How can a woman debate with men?" Women who believe they don't need a man in their life Such women believe that they are self-sufficient in all things. They have the I-don't-give-a-damn attitude. Men feel ill at ease when they are with women who don't allow a room in their lives for a man to fill. Such women find it difficult to express love. They always believe a man wants to dominate them. They are usually too defensive, too competitive, and too contentious. Men who relate with them usually feel frustrated. Such men always choose their words and actions carefully to avoid quarrels. That smothers affection and joy. Men who are looking for housemaids, not wives These are men who still live in the 15th century in this modern age. They have an archaic idea of what the role of wives is. They believe that women are only meant to cook, clean the house, bear children, and serve the men. They believe that when men talk, women just have to obey; when men talk, women must keep quiet. The man can keep mistresses, but the woman should keep quiet and not even be seen greeting a man. A woman should not work, should not step out of the house, and should not complain, whatever the man doles out to her. Those who can never trust anybody These are those who believe that everybody is an enemy. Everybody is filled with evil designs against them. They have an obsession with fear of people, including their spouse, that it is irritating. Once a spouse cannot be trusted, there can never be joy in the family. They see through every action. They believe that everybody has evil intentions. Those who have no respect for others People can mouth love, but without respect, a marriage can never be happy. Women who love to prove a point by insulting their husbands, or men who believe in treating their wives without dignity in the name of cutting their wives to size: such people make terrible marriage partners. Nothing kills marriages like disrespect. Women who see all men as competition that must not be given an inch Marriage is not a place for activism. A woman who sees a man as a competitor rather than a complement is a dangerous person to marry. When a man has to contend with a woman every minute, when a man is always too conscious of what to say or do to his wife, then there is a problem at home. Those who can't control their temper Hot-tempered people are dangerous. They can utter anything in anger. They can do things that they will regret for life. They can be violent. Their words can be venomous. They can put you in trouble. They are unpredictable. Those who cannot forgive Forgiveness makes us look superhuman. But there are those who cannot forgive, no matter the circumstances. Not only can they not forgive, they can also not forget. Because they can't forgive, they usually think of how to get revenge. Those who have not been weaned by their parents Age has little to do with maturity in marriage. Those who have not been "weaned" by their parents make poor marriage partners. They are full of "Mummy said", "Daddy said". They take every family discussion to their parents. They cannot do anything unless their parents approve. They allow their parents to run their homes in the name of showing respect. Those who are tied to the apron strings of their parents make marriage tasteless. Such spouses are a constant source of frustration and sadness. You will always be wrong in their sight. You will always be vilified. In summary, marriage is not a bed of roses. There is nobody without some faults or idiosyncrasies. But it is foolhardy to walk into a landmine with one's eyes open, praying and hoping that the explosive would not go off. To avoid heartaches, neither blind love nor desperation to get married should push a bachelor or spinster to jump into a marriage with someone who will cause nothing but pain, sadness, and sorrow. Marriage should not be treated as a game of Russian roulette. Source>> http://www.firstclassnewsline.net/2015/05/firstclass-newsline-special12-dangerous.html |
Firstclass newsline learnt that the suspect picked up the victim around Baruwa Estate in the Ipaja area of the state, on Friday. A police source told firstclass newsline that investigations showed that the suspect took the lady home and as they were having sex, the victim died. A neighbour was said to have alerted policemen from the Ipaja division, who arrested the suspect and deposited the victim's corpse in a mortuary. Firstclass newsline learnt learnt that nobody knew the victim's name and address, just as no member of her family had shown up. The source said, "The man was driving his cab that fateful day when the lady flagged him down. "She asked him for money, but he told her he didn't have any money on him. He then asked her to enter the car and follow him home. "He took her to his apartment in Baruwa Estate and it was that night that the girl died. Investigation showed that it was while he was making love to her that she died. It was the following morning that somebody alerted the police." It was, however, learnt that the suspect, in his confession told the police that he had picked the victim from the bus stop and taken her home when she suddenly died. Another source explained that the suspect had continued to plead his innocence, saying he only helped the deceased and did not have sex with her. He said, "The man did not deny taking the girl home. But he explained that while she was in his room, she started shouting that she had a headache, and before he knew what was going on, she fell down and died. "He said he was confused and didn't know what to do. But obviously, that may not be all the truth." Firstclass newsline crew that visited the area, observed that residents were not willing to talk about the incident, as they claimed that they were not aware. It was, however, learnt that the matter had been transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba, where the suspect was undergoing interrogation. The Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident. He said, "We have arrested the man. As I speak with you, the matter is under investigation at the DCI, to know what actually killed the lady. The deceased's name and address are unknown. Satellite town community , New crescent of prototype housing estate in Lagos State, early Tuesday morning witnessed a terrible incident , when a man who was jogging slumped and died, before he could recieve help. Firstclass newsline learnt that nobody was at the spot when the yet to be identified man slumped, even as residents and passersby, who saw him lying on the ground thought he was having rest. The seriousness of the incident, however, dawned on them, when one of the children of the man, who was going to school, at the early hours, saw his father lying flat on the ground. An eyewitness, who simply identified himself as Brandy, condemned what he described as negligence by a crowd, who gathered around the body of the man, at the scene without doing anything about the heart-chilling incident. "A witness said I was on my way to work this morning when I saw this man , who allegedly slumped and died, while jogging at Stepping Stone Bus Stop. He should be between the ages of 55 – 60. His son ,who was going to school saw him with people clustering around his body. The most painful thing is many people saw him lying down there since early this morning, and when I asked them how it happened, they said they thought he was resting after jogging. "It's very unfortunate people just stood there watching him for hours without doing anything. They have been there for more than an hour and they could not do anything," The victim is said to be a resident of new crescent of prototype housing estate, satellite town Source>> http://www.firstclassnewsline.net/2015/05/man-dies-while-jogging-in-satellite.html |

Firstclass Newsline learnt that Floyd Mayweather claimed a unanimous points verdict over Manny Pacquiao to win the richest fight in boxing history and maintain his perfect record. Mayweather, unbeaten in 48 professional fights stretching back to 1996, retains his WBC and WBA welterweight titles and takes the WBO belt from Pacquiao. The American was caught with the odd good shot, but was quicker throughout and always looked in control. The judges scored the fight 118-110, 116-112, 116-112. At a 16,000 sell-out MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas - where some spectators had paid as much as $350,000 for tickets on the resale market - Mayweather, 38, started much the better of the two fighters. Mayweather bossed the early rounds before Filipino Pacquiao had success in the fourth with a couple of strong left hooks to the head. Mayweather and Pacquiao have won world titles in five and six different weight divisions respectively But the American always dominated and largely stayed out of trouble, keeping Pacquiao at arms length with his superior footwork. Noisily backed by the 16,000-strong crowd, Pacquiao, 36, continued to have the odd success - landing a strong left in the eighth - but Mayweather's speed and movement proved key, and as the fight wore on he began to have more success. The 11th was the most one-sided of the contest as Mayweather, looking as fresh as he had in the opening round, picked off a tired-looking Pacquiao almost at will. Mayweather avoided Pacquiao's increasingly ragged attempts to land in the final round and comfortably won on all the judges' scorecards. The fight, watched by celebrities and sporting stars, is expected to generate an estimated $400m (£265m). It has been confirmed that the Nigerian troops has rescued more women and children from the Sambisa Forest enclaves of Boko Haram insurgents. The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, who made this known in a statement on Wednesday night, also said that some commanders of the militant Islamist sect were killed during further raids on the forest. Special Forces had on Tuesday rescued 293 girls and women from the forest in Borno State. Tuesday's success had fuelled speculations that the girls, who are undergoing health checks at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, might be the Chiboks schoolgirls who were abducted by insurgents from their hostel on April 14, 2014. Although the Defence Headquarters which announced the freeing of the 293 girls and women, said it had yet to ascertain their identities, the Borno State Government claimed that most of them were from Bumsiri, Damboa Local Government Area. Usman, in his statement, did not give the number of those freed on Wednesday but firstclass newsline crew gathered that they were 160. He said that a soldier and a woman were killed during the operation that led to the destruction of five additional training camps and facilities of the insurgents. Also, four soldiers and eight women were injured. The troops, according to Usman, destroyed four more training camps, two Armoured Personnel Carriers, two Buffalo vehicles mounted with anti-aircraft guns, a truck and several Toyota Hilux vans. But the soldiers recovered one Anti-Aircraft Gun, one General Purpose Machine Gun, one Rocket Propelled Grenade and several AK-47 rifles. Usman said, "Recall that we promised to keep you abreast of troops' progress in respect of Nigerian military's ongoing operations to rid the country of terrorists and their enclaves. "In line with that, I wish to inform you that in the evening of today (Wednesday), troops of the 7 Division Nigerian Army also cleared several terrorists strong points and training camps within Sambisa Forest. "The troops have also rescued additional women and children. They have been evacuated to a safe zone for further processing. "During the encounter, unfortunately we lost a soldier while four others were wounded in action. "The troops killed several Boko Haram field commanders and foot soldiers and destroyed two APCs, two Buffalo vehicles mounted with anti-aircraft guns, a truck and several Hilux vehicles. "The gallant soldiers also recovered one Anti-Aircraft Gun, one General Purpose Machine Gun, one Rocket Propelled Grenade and several AK-47 rifles. Sadly, one woman died and eight other women sustained gunshot wounds. "So far, the troops have destroyed nine terrorist camps in the forest.'' He said that the camps destroyed were in addition to four others destroyed by the military on Tuesday. According to him, the camps destroyed are Wulari Bukar, Gangala, Anguwar Bakwai and Jigide, Kotorima, Lagara Bello and Lagara Fulani. Usaman said that the troops were poised to destroy all the remaining terrorist camps and rescue other hostages in all terrorist enclaves. The Director of Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Chris Olukolade, insisted during a news conference in Abuja on Thursday that the identities of the women and girls rescued on Tuesday had yet to be ascertained. He stated however that some of the rescued ladies might be from Bumsiri community in Damboa as claimed by the Borno State Government. Olukolade said, "The true identity of some of the rescued women and girls isyet to be ascertained. At the moment, what is uppermost and of priority is their movement to a conducive place where they are now undergoing thorough profiling to verify where they come from, how they found themselves in the forest, etc. "Additional number of persons is still being recovered from the forest. Until such comprehensive profiling is done, nobody can confirm whether they are among the Chibok girls or not. "Whoever they may be, the important thing is that Nigerians held captive under very severe and inhuman condition have been freed by our gallant troops. The joy and sense of hope being expressed by many Nigerians on hearing about the rescue operation are therefore understandable. "We would like to reassure them that the momentum of this operation will be sustained until that Sambisa Forest is comprehensively cleaned out and all Nigerians held captive within the bowels of the forest are rescued. There is a great hope for the recovery of more hostages of the terrorists." Urging the Boko Haram fighters to surrender themselves, the DHQ spokesman stressed that the military would not be deterred by the mines planted in the forest and difficult terrain in the prosecution of the campaign against them. Olukolade also said that the military had captured over 13 terrorist camps in the dreaded forest. "Over 13 terrorists' camps including the notorious Tokumbere camp in Sambisa Forest have been captured. Camps overran and destroyed by troops include Wulari Bukar, Gangala, Anguwar Bakwai, Jigide, Kotorima, Lagura Bello, Lagina Fulani, among others." he added Just as news of the lastest rescue of captives spread, President Goodluck Jonathan promised that he would do all within his powers to ensure that all parts of the country still under the control of terrorists were totally liberated before May 29. A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, quoted him(Jonathan) as making the promise while receiving a delegation of Heads of Customs from the West and Central African Region of the World Customs Organisation led by the Secretary-General of the organisation, Kunio Mikuriya, in Abuja. "We can now say two states are completely free from terrorist control, while in the third state, it is only in one Local Government Area that they are still present. That is in the Sambisa forest," the President told his guests. On his decision to concede victory to the President-elect before all the results of the presidential elections were announced, Jonathan said elections must be approached from a nationalistic point of view. He said, "Our elections should be about where Nigeria is going. If Nigeria is moving forward, it is for the good of all Nigerians. My children and grandchildren will live and grow in this country and contribute to it. "I always tell my colleagues to leave office when their time is up. We are trying to encourage African leaders not to remain in power as kings until death. Source> http://www.firstclassnewsline.net/2015/04/military-rescues-more-160-children-women.html |
Firstclass newsline gathered that a river rat three times the size of the average Irish rat has been discovered living in Tipperary. The rat, which is thought to be a native of South America, is now being cared for by the Kildare Animal Foundation after being discovered in Tipperary last week. Nicknamed Swampy by his minders, who spoke to the Irish Sun, the rat is a native of South American rivers and swamps (hence the name) and is technically known as a coypu. The animal is presumed to have escaped or been released by a collector. It is about the size of a dog, weighs in at 6kg and is thought to have been in the wild for about a fortnight before being discovered. The animal, who the Kildare group hope to find a home for, has been largely quiet but he has done some 'hissing and growling' to warn his minders not to get too close. A UK court heard that the boy is on medication and had had been having behavioural problems in the weeks before the attack. "The allegation in this case is that the defendant raped his mother while she was asleep. The factual basis of this case is that he was in his mother's bed," said prosecutor Francis McEntee. "The issue is not any assertion of consent, or belief of consent. It is the prosecution's assertion there was penetration and the defendant's denial of that allegation. "The defendant's account is that his bed was uncomfortable, there was damage to the bottom sheet, so he had gone in and lain in bed with his mother", Mr McEntee continued. He told the jury: "You will hear his acknowledgement that his mother was naked, bar the brief underwear and you will hear his admission that she lay on her side and he was lying with his arm around her. "The prosecution would invite you to say he was hoping to seek to try and provide an innocent explanation for his presence in the bed. Whether driven by drink or some other issue, perhaps because he had had drink, he climbed into bed with his mother". A police interview with the mother was played in court while the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, chose to leave the courtroom while the interview was played. "I just know when I opened my eyes he was there. I don't even know what I said. He scuttled out of the room and didn't say anything," said the traumatized mother. "I just sat there holding my covers, screaming and thinking 'what the hell's just gone on?' "All sorts was going through my head. Is he just sleepwalking? "Does he know what he is doing? Is he aware? Now I am actually thinking what state is he in? Does he know what he has done?" The woman told officers that her son had issued for quite some time and that the previous 18 months had been an "absolute nightmare". "He's really aggressive towards me, throws things and hits me with things like slippers and cushions. Only two days ago I got cut. This is me trying to ground him and instil some punishment for the way he has been," she said. "I am concerned for my son, more concerned about what would happen to him," she said at the end of the interview.
