Italy has moved a step closer to legalizing chemical castration for convicted sex offenders, after the Chamber of Deputies approved a motion committing the government to form a technical committee to study pharmacological treatment for people convicted of sexual violence against children.

The motion was introduced by League party lawmaker Igor Iezzi and backed by the government of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, following a series of high-profile rape cases that have shaken public confidence in the justice system. Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, the League’s leader, called it “another important step forward in our historic battle for justice and common sense: zero tolerance for rapists and pedophiles.” League Justice Undersecretary Andrea Ostellari said in September 2026 that “in the face of new very serious episodes of sexual violence, especially against minors, concrete answers are needed,” adding that it was time to “start the technical table and transform this will into a concrete proposal.”

The underlying bill, first filed by the League in August 2023 and still stalled in the Senate, would allow judges to order total hormonal blockade using luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone agonist drugs for people convicted of sexual violence, based on an assessment of the offender’s dangerousness. Under the League’s model, the treatment would be framed as voluntary and complementary to a prison sentence, though it would apply automatically in cases of repeat offending or abuse of minors. What Parliament has actually approved so far is a non-binding instruction to the government, known in Italian as an ordine del giorno, not a statute, and no law currently authorizes chemical castration as a criminal penalty in Italy.

Opposition figures and rights lawyers have pushed back, arguing that a drug which alters the body sits at the edge of Italy’s constitutional protections on personal integrity, and that public anger after individual crimes is a poor foundation for using medicine as punishment. Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani, leader of the coalition party Forza Italia, has also voiced opposition to the proposal, putting him at odds with his own governing coalition on the issue.

FCT police rescue 12 year old girl being raped inside a parked car after noticing the car shaking

The FCT Police Command have arrested one Zazzayanu Halilu for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl inside a car on Oct. 2nd.

According to SP Josephine Adeh, spokesperson of the command, the arrest was effected after operatives while on routine patrol around Airport Bridge Taxi Park, observed a fully tinted navy blue Volkswagen vehicle with registration number KMC567LQ parked with its windows wound up. However, the vehicle was shaking.

Adeh said the officers, suspecting foul play, approached the vehicle and opened it, only to see the suspect raping the minor.

She mentioned that following the discovery, the suspect was promptly arrested and the victim was rescued. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had, on several occasions, lured and sexually abused the underaged victim in the said vehicle parked at the same location, with threats to “deal with her” if she reveals the abuse to anyone.

Adeh said medical examination also revealed that the victim is about three months pregnant as a result of the abuse. She said the victim is currently receiving medical care and assessment, while the suspect remains in Police custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.

The woman in the photo is Christa Gail Pike. She is currently the only woman on Tennessee's death row and, having been sentenced at just 20 years old, is often noted as the youngest woman ever sentenced to death in the U.S.

The crime occurred in January 1995 when Pike was an 18-year-old attending a Job Corps program in Knoxville, Tennessee .

Driven by jealousy involving her boyfriend, Pike and two accomplices (her boyfriend and another student) lured 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer into the woods. For over about 30 minutes, they tortured and beat Slemmer, carving a pentagram into her chest. Pike delivered the fatal blow by striking her skull with a chunk of asphalt .

Prosecutors described it as an act of "extraordinarily brutal" cruelty.

After nearly 30 years of appeals, Pike's execution is currently scheduled for September 30, 2026 . If carried out, she would be the first woman executed in Tennessee in over 200 years .

Though her lawyers are currently fighting the sentence through a clemency petition and a religious-liberty lawsuit regarding the lethal injection process.

Tennessee woman, Christa Pike, makes special request days before execution

Christa Pike has “horrible nightmares.” Her “nerves are shredded.”

In eight days, the 50-year-old who killed her friend when she was a teenager will have her worst nightmares realized inside the execution chamber in Nashville, Tennessee.

Pike is set to become the first woman put to death in Tennessee since 1819 if Governor Bill Lee does not put a stop to the scheduled execution before 10 a.m. local time on September 30.

Her lawyers, who filed a 226-page clemency petition, are still waiting for a last-minute reprieve.

Under the state’s updated lethal injection protocol, a single-drug chemical dose of pentobarbital will enter her system while she is strapped to a gurney.

The reason, her lawyers say, is that she has post-traumatic stress disorder from the widely documented abuse she suffered at the hands of men as a young girl, including when she was just two years old.

They also say her death by lethal injection will be “prolonged and agonizing” because she has a rare blood disorder that could make finding a vein more difficult and affect the way she reacts to the drug.
