Alusiizizi: I think that he mentioned something like 20k to rent the tractor and maybe another 15k for plowing, I'll have to go over the OP again, but at any rate, a quick eyeballing of the figures worked out to around the neighborhood of 150k. With regards to the fueling of his okada, it's hard to imagine the kind of errands that he needs to run that would see him spend his future 500k(that's assuming that the investment is like 300k and not my initial 150k estimate) in a 3 month window. Even commercial okada riders don't spend nearly that much. lol. Insecticides are costly. Ferlizer is around 35k /50kgbag and he needs nothing less than 20 bags in that farm. The list he can use is combat insecticides for killing captapilars and army worms🐛 which cost over 6k each. He is going to be buying cartons of all this and not pieces.

Alusiizizi: Not terribly sure what the advantage of dry sale over wet sale is. I can only assume that dry corn seeds are easier to process. At any rate, let's even assume that we double my initial estimate on initial investment to make it 300k(a comically large estimate if I might add), that's still some 500k in profits in 3 months. If he was sitting on 12 hectares then that would make it a cool million in 3 months for just 600k investment(even more comical because the initial investment will surely reduce with increased area
The one thing that I can't get my head around is why any farmer would want to be selling unprocessed corn when he could make like 10 times more by going vertical, i.e. processing the corn into food-stuff, like semovita, corn-meal, akamu and so many other food products. There are thousands of dry maize buyers . The problem is ,not everyone can process or have the machinery to produce farm produce to finish products. We only get direct buyers for our products . |

Alusiizizi: Thought it was 2 months. Then again, I did make it know that I was no farmer. Regarding the seeds, I think he was referring to 15k for all six hectares. Cost of tractor isn’t there. His personal expenses like fueling his bike daily isn’t there too. |

Alusiizizi: 1k per 12 cobs?? That's even better than my conservative estimate. OP mentioned that his goal was 10,000 cobs of corn by harvest and a rough calculation of the required overhead plus some wiggle-room worked out to about 150,000 Naira, maximum. With your 12 cobs for 1k, the total price for the whole lot is about 800K, that means about 650k over maybe a month or two of corn cultivation. Pretty good returns if you ask me, but then again, I'm not a farmer so I could very well be wrong. In my 3 plots ,I have over 4k stands of maize atm and he should have more but that’s not the issue. Let him sell dry to make max profits |

Sp33i: Thanks. I have standby buyers for my dried maize grains. I know the qty of seeds i planted and the estimated financial inflow. Hence, i am not worried. As an educated farmer, i go with my figures from blueprint to the field. I am not selling fresh, nor worried about price fluctuations God will help you. I would rather you plant cassava by the side. In 8 months time, you will start harvest. This is the real deal and not maize. |

Everything looks easy, interesting and profitable on the screen here but the reality is in the farm.
Pls,if you are not a pro in this line of business ,don’t just take your money and start doing this business to avoid losses.
At the moment, maize is cheaper than even pure water. They sell 12 pieces at just #1000. If you start encouraging people into this, then the supply will even get worst and price drops further.
We that we even planted March this year,we have not yet break-even how much more seeing profit not those who will harvest afterwards. Thank God for the cassava planted in between, this will neutralize any loss.
The op is new in this line of business reason his hope is high. He should take heed and plant cassava or perhaps,if he will sell the maize dry by March next year.
