dchinky:Thank u for your response. It is important that u read the piece again. You will see that the estimate was on production cost only. The housing was mentioned towards the end of the write up. I didn't go into details on that but it is common sense that one knows chickens would be housed. One can build a housing comfortable for 100doc for 15-20k and thats including the nylon u mentioned. Before u say no to dt again. I have set up farms recently for 2 persons on that range. The same house can be used for brooding and growing of chickens. The housing cost is considered on a long term since u did keep using it for years. One doesn't also need all new materials to build it. Most of the other cost is mainly on feeds and I have explained that part. If u can make ur feeds u'd save cost on production. I am telling u ds cos I too am running a 700 broiler farm and have been in this biz for over 2yrs now. I started from 50 broilers and hv grown. We don't need to scare people away from doing sth every time a biz is mentioned people keep calling capital. I repeat, any1 with 49k can start a poultry farm and grow it big into sth impossible. I did it and any1 can Thank u |

How much would it cost me to start a Broiler Farm? This is the question I get asked every time. The truth is this, lots of persons wants to go into poultry business but they fear a lot of things. Some of these fears include: - those guys(chickens) can die! - the capital required is too high - how do I even sell those idiots? Lols! You see, you can never start a business staying far off. You need interest and some little faith to risk something. All of the above are not in all true. It is easy to start and its damn cheap too. There a lot of things that add to cost of raising birds and it start from day one. If u don't handle things smartly u will make a lot of unnecessary expenses 1. First thing u need to do is to make sure that you are buying your doc directly from d farm. Its way cheaper that way. Those individuals you book with add their own interest you know. Get at least 2-3 reliable farms you can work with and keep in touch with their doc prices. This way you get to knw what they are selling at every time. Personally I have studied the thing. I know exactly when prices ar very low and high. So I buy more when they are very low Let's use agrited to do an estimate. Doc sold at 180 yesterday (Mon. 17th July) 100 doc will cost 18,000 plus a #10 tp per chick which is #1000. Total cost of doc #19,000 2. You will need to prepare d brooding space. Things required include: a. Wood shaving - 400 for a bag. You need 1 bag. If its free at your place then you're lucky. b. Heat source- use charcoal stove. 1 bag of charcoal is 1200 here. Use half bag. Dts 600 3. Usually 4 vaccines are needed within 4 weeks of your doc. 2 of Gomboro and 2 of lasota. If you administer the first 2 properly you don't need to do the rest again unless where you find them not agile So here we will use 2 Lasota - 100dose 600 Gomboro- 100 dose 1000 4. Other things u need are drugs and vitamins. You will need antibiotics, vitamin, coccidostat plus any other one if u observe any problem with your chicken. Of course there are other additives if you like So, Antibiotics- 600-1200 depending on the type Antiviral- 500 Vitamin-800 Coccidostat- 400 5. Feeding is the major activity in the farm and it usually takes most of the cost in production. First thing u need here is to make sure u buy or make ur feeds in bulk. This way, you save a lot on transportation. Current Prices of feeds in my area: a. Top feeds -4000- 4200 b. Hybrid- 3600-3650 c. Livestock feeds-3800-3900 d. Sunseed-3650-3700 There are others You will need about 12 bags of feeds for 8 weeks period. Let's use the least of the above feeds. Hybrid- 3650 *4 (starter)=#14,600 Finisher-3600*8=28,800 Total- #43,400 But if u are making your own feed. You will spend #26,000-30,000 The range is dependent on the following: a. Your target market b. How much you're able to learn from what I can teach you. The first time you save 15%, as you progress and master the skills 20-30% plus c. Cost of feed ingredients in your area Difference in price of company processed feeds and your feeds. 43,400 - 26,000=#17400 43,400 - 30,000=#13,400 * Feeds get stale after 1 month and decrease in quality. * make feeds in bulk to save cost on transportation. 4 bags will last u first 4 weeks. Then the remaining 8bags the nxt 4 weeks * Making your feeds puts you in charge of the nutrition your chickens get, save you cost, and helps you get better results in terms of weight and egg at even lesser time Cost summary: a. Doc- 19,000 b. Wood shaving-400 c. Charcoal-600 d. Vaccines-1,600 e. Drugs/Vit-2,300 *f. Company made feeds-43,400 g. Your own feed-26,000 *Transportation cost of feeds -1,500 Total -#49,900 *omitted in Total What I have just shown you is the production cost of raising 100 Broilers. You also need a housing for your chickens. That's easy to do. Get a carpenter friend for a brother price to build one. Start right at your back yard and grow big. Remember, All you need to start that farm is only #49,900 Now, pulse! I hear someone asking about profit. Imagine selling a chicken at just #1,000 Punch your calculator. Try multiplying by 600 birds. Oh! sorry u were supposed to multiply by 100 Stop idleness! Go start farming! Good luck Salami Excel Oluwafemi Determined on making you a farmer 09056198681 |

To whom it may concern I do a lot of things to make ends meet but you see "farming'? Its something I have come to realise will stay with me for a very long time. Not only am I consumed by the various opportunities it present but also have I realised that it is the African heritage. The opportunities in that sector alone can set africa free from stains of poverty its known for and Nigeria has a major part to play in it. God blessed us with fertile lands and rich resource in both plants and animals for a reason. Imagine we add technology to it. I was going through my records and found that as at 2015 a Mudu of corn was sold at #100-150. Today the same Mudu is sold for #300-350. A lot of people see a problem in this but I don't. In fact Here is what I have to say, the problem is the opportunity! Look again! Except for inorganic fertilizers (the organic are better and safer by the way) we do not import any other thing. Okay may be the machines which are necessary for mechanised farming. We don't import the seeds or lands and they are the major factors needed. God already did his part with the weather. We don't need to exchange any country's currency to farm. What the rise in price shows some of us are these: a. Farmers are gaining more relevance b. More profit Okay those 2 are enough for now. Some of the very interesting things about farming are: - its diversity in both crop and animal farming - how easy it is to start even if you don't know how to use a hoe/cutlass - any one can start with small capital and grow it into something impossible - the unending demand for farm produce. Even a dying man still eat! As I said before you don't need to know how to use a cutlass to farm. You only need a sense! There are people with the strength and skills you need. Leverage on them. You can also rent plots for this purpose at cheap rates. So many get discouraged starting businesses because of capital. Well there's good news! You can start a small farm with less than #15,000 depending on your location. If you are interested in poultry farming it is also very possible to run a production cost of #50,000 for 100 broilers. I have practically run a farm of 350 broilers on production cost of #130,000 within 8 weeks and 700 broilers at #290,000 within same period. These things are real I have been doing this for over 2 years now. You only need sense! I understand that everybody can't go into farming. I mean who will do the other things? However, if you have nothing doing at the moment you can join in. Don't be idle doing nothing Salami Excel Oluwafemi Proudly, Poultry Farmer |

Going one right no on our "make your feed' whatsapp group: How to save 30 - 50% cost making poultry feeds- Part 1 Introduction: Smart Life greetings to everyone! I trust u had a great palm Sunday? Well, I did. There is a reason why I love agriculture. Among many other things is that, I see it as the major way out of Nigeria's struggle with fuel. The recession has taught us all what a great mistake we have done relying mainly on fuel as our national major source of income. The agricultural sector has no limitations unlike other sectors of any economy. It is true that it requires hardwork and diligence but what other successful venture doesn't? Summarily, what am saying is that, I am proud to be a farmer and more importantly, I am proud to be in the poultry farming business because to me, its the leading way out of any economic disaster. I am more honoured to know that I have people like you having this foresight. To this I say, congratulations. Every farmer in the poultry farming business knows that the major activity carried out on the farm is Feeding. I mean, all other activities like cleaning, vaccination, management etc all occur once in a while but whether you are into layers, broilers, turkey or any other sector of the business, you must always feed your birds. This sometimes can even be tiring. I understand this because, I am currently having a 700 broiler birds capacity farm. Those "guys' eat about 2 bags of feeds daily and this is done morning, afternoon and night. If feeding is the major activity that takes place on the farm, it is only logical to conclude that it holds the major expenses. Also, feeding controls every result you get, be it egg production, or weight gain. These results are where your profits lies. Therefore, any farmer who is able to fully control this aspect rise in the business more swiftly than others. I know this because as at June 2016 I was on a 250 broiler farm and then out of curiosity I went on research, put in time and energy to get a formula that works. By the end of July I was already controlling 600 birds and then 700 birds. From 250 birds in just months? I am currently working on expanding to 2500 broiler farm by this year ending. I am telling u this not to brag but to let u know, there is no limit to how much or how fast you can grow if u know exactly how to manage your feeding. The easiest way to manage your feed is to make the feed yourself. Here is why; - except for a few feed manufacturers who keep to standards in poultry feed formulations, many feed companies make very poor quality feeds. - poor quality feeds lead to a slow growth in chickens, low egg production, diseases or even death - this can lead to huge losses My friend, you'd agree with me that time is key to this business we do. Personally, I start marketing my birds from 5 weeks. If I don't get a good weight at that time, it will slow the business. Providing your chickens with quality feeds makes them grow faster and you sell faster, turnover and make more profit. Another problem farmers face with company processed feeds is the high price. I mean u buy cost, may be poor quality then experience delay and low or no profit at all. Wouldn't it be better if u make your own feeds even if it cost more? you'd save time and make profit. Making your own feed puts you practically in charge of the exact nutrition your chickens get. It puts you in charge of the results you get. Wouldn't you love to have this? The question now is, is there a way for farmers to make their own feed, save cost and maximise profit? The answer is.. yes! I will be showing you how (on the whatsappgroup) you can save 30 - 50% on production cost making your own feeds. But don't forget, you are only getting 30%. Lol! You can still join. Follo the instruction on this thread to participate. Live a smart Life |

kencoinz:You are right except that one can actually start the importation business itself in a little way den grow to e commerce shop or anything else for that matter. One can also use catalogue of products he has chosen, show to friends, they pay on trust or even half and he orders. My point is, there is always a way to start small. Instead of people waiting and dying to have huge capital before they start doing business, they should just start any way. Am glad u ar following and encourage people to patronise u. Peace |
izzou:It said nairaland discovered an error in my post and that I need to go back and correct it. I have tried it ur way, removed all links etc I am nt too gud wt this platform only joined 2 weeks ago I dnt knw if thr is anoda way |
?.please am not trying to run u down but please don't misinform people. For a start in the brooding room,is it only stove and charcoal that one needs?what about the nylon that are needed to retain heat and also shield the birds from adverse weather? So housing is easy like that?I didn't see your estimates for woods (different types ), nails and zinc? Viz a Viz their current prices in the market.
just say u don't want to post everything here.
