Abemy:
If you think I am telling lies, go to our airports and just pretend you are travelling, those aviation staff will create illegal payments for you, those who lack access to those illegal collection resort to official begging, some will shamelessly tell you they have not eaten.
.
Go to our sea ports, a friend told me yesterday that before the customs could open your container to check, you have to pay N400,000. This is not import duty, it is illegal levies, this amount is paid irrespective of whether your goods are countraband or not. This illegal levies contribute to the high cost of goods in the country.
.
Pretend you are seeking for an admission in the tertialy institution in the country and you will understand the corruption there. Our hospitals are not exempted, if you can't give bribe, you may wait to see a doctor till eternity, after fulfilling all the hospital process, you will still pay money for seeing the Doctor whose salary and allowances are paid by his/her employer.
.
Have you ever conveyed goods from one part or the country to the other? You will pay the loaders, pay the driver and also hand him money to bribe police, NDLEA, Customs, etc or be asked to be ready to settle them by yourself as the vehicle transverse, and in cities like Onitshsa, you will still pay thauts for moving such goods on their land.
.
Have you ever applied for a job, this is where corruption work best.
.
Did you ever need an attestation and recommendation later from a government official? Ever need certificate of LG/State of origin? Have you ever dealt with a post officerat our post offices? where can you say there is no corruption in the country?.
.
A police officer told me the Genesis of collecting money on check points. According to him, during emergencies, vehicles are handed down to officers without fuel, but they are threatened they will be held responsible, if they don't move to the distress point and anything goes wrong. They will have to contribute their personal money, fuel the van and try to recover back their money, when they are done with the task, they started making gains and the practice become a norm in the NPF.
These things are been taken care of by the police's yearly budgets but the Ogas at the top, would not release the money.
.
The poor market women and men are not different, even some church leaders are not.
A seminarian admitted being offered admission two weeks after candidates who wrote exams were admitted because his mother was the CWO chairperson and by her influence, a priest helped him gain admission without due process, another seminarian discouraged candidates from seeking admission into the seminary of a particular Diocese, if they don't know any priest. That is corruption. I will not delve much in the church.
.
Few weeks ago, a Nigerian petrol filling station was dispensing water to people's tanks, as fuel, precisely in Abuja, the FCT.
.
Corruption doesn't only refer to financial inducements to alter ethics of professions or pervert justice. There are certain corrupt practices that does not involve money, sex for grades in our schools, sex for roles in our entertainment industries etc.
.
A customer complained on "a phone in" program of a radio station, how his tailor asked him to buy more materials to complete his job, only to find out the ones he bought was used to sew face masks.
.
I can't even scratch it, not to talk of mentioning corrupt practices in Nigeria by Nigerians.
.
Nigeria deserve to be number one corrupt country in the world.
.
We are all corrupt, but we accuse politicians, whereas, even kindergarten teachers corruptly feed from their pupil's lunch box.
You have spoken well..
