Politics2017 Budget Delayed Due To Grey Areas by MasterclipHub(op): 6:37am On Jun 04, 2017
Why Osinbajo Is Yet To Sign Document By Liason Officer

The delay in getting the 2017 budget ready for implementation may drag beyond expectations. This is because there are grey areas in the document, which the Presidency and the National Assembly leadership are yet to resolve.

It was learnt yesterday, that the meeting convened last week, at Aso Villa for the two parties to review the fiscal plan failed to hold and was rescheduled for this week.
The budget as passed by the National Assembly, it was learnt contains serious discrepancies when compared to what was submitted to it by President Muhammadu Buhari, on December 14, 2016.

The Presidency has, however, confirmed that it would engage the leadership of the National Assembly in some discussions to sort out whatever grey areas exist, even though it denied any plot to reject the document.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Solomon Ita Enang, in a statement yesterday evening said that: “The Presidency is working within the constitutional time-frame required to process details of the 2017 budget passed by the National Assembly. There is no such plan by it to reject the 2017 budget passed by the National Assembly as alleged in some reports. The Presidency can only assent to the budget or withhold assent as the case may be”

Enang made it clear that, “However, should there be areas needing input, the Presidency would engage the leadership of the Senate and the House of Representatives.”
According to him, “Right now, the Presidency is subjecting every detail of the budget, using the available systems at its disposal to ensure the figures appropriated to MDAs are consistent with the realities on ground, while also engaging in consultations.

“When the budget was presented to both chambers of the National Assembly for consideration last year by President Muhammadu Buhari, both chambers subjected the document to legislative processes using internal systems at their disposal. This, exactly, is what the Presidency is actually doing at the moment to ensure that what would be eventually assented to sufficiently addresses the nation’s present realities, as not doing so could expose government to a backlash from Nigerians,” Enang stated.
On his part, Presidential Liaison Officer to the National Assembly (House of Representatives), Alhaji Kawu Abdulrahman Sumaila, equally confirmed that assent to the budget is delayed due to the existence of some grey areas in the document.

Though the presidential aide did not shed light on the grey areas, he noted via a text message to The Guardian thus: “The Executive has identified some ‘grey areas’ that they want the National Assembly to adjust.”

Nairaland GeneralLai Mohammed Needs A New Brain – Fani-kayode by MasterclipHub(op): 12:17am On Jun 04, 2017
Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has told the current Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, that he “needs a new brain”, after he gave reasons why the President Muhammadu Buhari-Federal Government, is flouting court orders regarding some high-profile cases.
Featuring on Osasu Show, Mohammed said the government was flouting court orders in the interest of national security.
“Every government will balance national security with human rights; every country in the world. It is the level of the balancing.
“As a government, I will balance national security against human rights; and then I will take a decision. Because there is security, there is stability, that the courts also exist.
“What I am saying (is) that the court has ruled but the court does not have the entire picture when it comes to national security. I am a lawyer too, therefore I have utmost respect for the judiciary,” Mohammed had said.
Fani-Kayode has now taken to his Twitter account to fire back at the Minister, saying this is not a military regime.
He wrote: “The assertion that govt. has the right to disobey court orders on grounds of nat. security is dangerous and false. Lie M. needs a new brain.
“He looks and sounds like a drunken monkey and garrulous chimpanzee when he says such things. This is a democracy and not a military regime!”.

HealthVaccination Error Kills 15 Children by MasterclipHub(op): 1:38pm On Jun 03, 2017
No fewer than 15 children have died in war torn South Sudan from a botched attempt to immunise them against measles, officials say.
They were vaccinated with the same unsterilised syringe, and the vaccine was not stored properly, according to an investigation into the deaths.
As a result, the immunisation campaign caused severe infection and sepsis.
The team administering the vaccinations was “neither qualified nor trained” to do so, the health minister said.
About 300 people were vaccinated during the campaign in the Kapoeta region, including 32 other children who fell ill, but survived, Riek Gai Kok added.
Measles outbreaks in the country are a key target of the United Nations children’s fund (Unicef), which is aiming to vaccinate 1.2 million children this year.
But a report from the Associated Press said that in this case, children as young as 12 were administering the vaccine to others.
Sepsis is a potentially deadly immune response triggered by an infection which spreads quickly in the body.
It can lead to multiple organ failure and death.
South Sudan declared independence in 2011, but has struggled to maintain basic services – including healthcare – after a civil war erupted in 2013.
The United Nations estimates more than one million children have fled the country during the conflict, and a million more are displaced within the country.

Nairaland GeneralDemocracy Day: Its Time For Sober Reflection – Sen. Oluremi Tinubu by MasterclipHub(op): 8:38pm On May 28, 2017
Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, representing Lagos Central Senatorial District, says this year’s Democracy Day is a time for sober reflection, reviewing performances and creating frameworks and action plans to make up for any shortcomings.

Tinubu said this in a message entitled ‘Half-year Review’ to mark Democracy Day, commemorated every May 29, and to review her performance in the last two years as a Senator.

She noted that this year’s Democracy Day commemoration marked the mid-term of the present democratic dispensation and administration. Tinubu commended Nigerians for being resilient, as the previous year had been economically difficult, assuring that better days are here ”I congratulate the Nigerian government and citizens on the celebration of the inception of the Nigerian Democracy.”

The 2017 budget of Economic Recovery and Growth which was recently passed is positioned to consolidate the benefits of the 2016 Budget of Change and set us on the right path to a robust economy.

”This day, 18 years ago, Nigeria made a conscious choice to be free, to uphold the rights of the common man and to ensure involvement and participation of its citizenry in governance. ”It has not been an easy journey and has often, failed to meet the expectations of the average Nigerian.

”However, there is no doubt that this administration is on the right track, and given the right tools and effective application, this democracy will yield the Nigeria of our dreams,” she said.

According to her, the All Progressives Congress-led administration at both state and national levels are committed to putting in place solid structures that would ensure that Nigerians enjoy full dividends of democracy. ”As the Senator representing Lagos Central, it is time to review my performance in the last two years to ensure it is up to date in addressing problems/needs of my constituents and Nigeria as a whole.

”Governance is a marathon, and for best results, is predicated on continuity and consistency. Thus, my commitment over the last six years has not waned. ”The well-being, effective representation, and promotion of better opportunities for the people of Lagos Central will continue to motivate my actions.

”Once again, I felicitate with all the good people of Lagos Central, Lagos State, Nigerians at home and in the diaspora and wish you all the merits of democracy, ” she said.

Nairaland GeneralChildren's Day Party: Tragedy As Motorist Hit Down A Child In Bayelsa. Photos by MasterclipHub(op): 11:14pm On May 27, 2017
There was wailing and commotion at the popular Julius Berger axis of the Sani Abacha Expressway, when a pathfinder jeep knocked down a little kid going to attend the Children Day Party organized by the headquarters of the Bayelsa State Redeemed Christian Church of God in Yenagoa.

The victim, Joshia, 4years from Ekeremor LGA, Bayelsa State was going with his 7years older brother when he was hit by the motorist from Ogbia while crossing the Expressway.

At my arrival to the accident scene from my routine inspection duty of the flood level around the Azikoro Estate area, the parents and other relatives were crying helplessly on getting the information, as the motorist rushed the child to an undisclosed hospital.

While the hostile mother was beating the older child, I rescued the boy and asked the direction the car took and he pointed towards FCM.

Immediately, I lead a search team to former Gloryland hospital, now Guruva Brooks, and then, to the Children Emergency of the Federal Medical Center Hospital, but to no avail.

When I got to the Government House Hospital, the CEO, Dr. Hobbot Preye confirmed the receipt of the patient but said, he has a damaged left leg and is referred to the Bayelsa State Diagnostics Center, Mgbi Road for femur X-ray. That, I should contact the parents to enable them extract the medical history to facilitate treatment on the boy.

Quickly, the contact was put to the father who happens to be a traditional bone doctor.
On his arrival, he insisted that he will handle the treatment in the traditional way under his care, but we discouraged him and he later agreed with us.

When the X-ray was done, it shows fractured left femur (a broken bone) and total shift of the knee joint.

The hospital management have since contacted an Indian trained Nigerian Orthopedic Surgeon who is well known to me, to head other White specialists from the United States of America to conduct an orthopedic surgery on baby Joshia who is currently on drip in preparation for the theater.

The two Nigerian men arrested in Cambodia with 1.27 kilograms of cocaine were sentenced on Wednesday, May 24th, to life imprisonment and an approximately $10,000 fine.
Y Rin, a spokesman for the municipal court, said that the sentence for the two men – Okafor Ifeanyi Anthony, 42, and Adibe Paschal, 33 – was based on Article 40 of the Anti-Drug Law.

"Based on the law, the court allows them to appeal the conviction," he said

Okafor and Adibe were arrested in May 2016 for allegedly smuggling 1.27 kilograms in their stomachs from Nigeria to Vietnam via Dubai and then to Cambodia, where they were arrested.
Authorities suspected that they were bound for Pattaya in Thailand.

Paschal denied knowledge of the drugs and had claimed that he had only gotten to know Anthony at the airport, which the latter corroborated.

PoliticsWe Shall Reform APC From Within – Pat Utomi by MasterclipHub(op): 9:56pm On May 22, 2017
Professor Pat Utomi, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), says the founding fathers of the party would reform it to correct some of its lapses.

Utomi told the Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in New York that the party had to be reformed to refocus it to its founding ideals.

The founder and former presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) party said some of the founding fathers were more committed to building APC as an enduring political party.
According to him, however, some people are more interested in taking titles in the party, rather than building it.
“I’m a member of the APC; I’m one of the real founding members of the APC.
Forget that because some of us committed more to building real stuff and others rushed to take titles; but we founded the APC.
“It’s not been what we thought it would be; let’s be very honest, the party has under-performed, the party’s structure has been poor.
“The party leadership has been poor; government and the party have not worked well together.
“But we shall reform it from within by God’s grace and make it work better.
“We have to wish on God’s grace and hope that things work differently. Anything that works, that will make a difference, I will do,” he said.
Utomi, a professor of political economy and former Special Adviser in the Second Republic government of former President Shehu Shagari, said he was not ambitious for political power.
According to him, however, he is more interested in whatever will bring relief to the Nigerians from the hardship they have faced under successive administrations.
“All my career, all my life, I’ve always been willing to do anything no matter how sacrificial it is to advance the common good of our people.
“The thing that I have never cared for is pursuit of power for the sake of power. I’m not looking for anything, I’m quite happy with the fortunes that my circumstance has brought to me.
“But if there is a serious group of people who really are motivated by one thing and one thing alone – service to the people.
“Making it a kind of life we live better, more harmony among the people of Nigeria, I will be very pleased to do anything – Councillor, President, just name anything.
“So I have no problem about engaging for serving if it will lead to real progress, not to a title, I don’t believe in titles.
“We must begin to look at leaders who don’t seek titles and who can make a difference without a title,” he said.
Utomi who is the Director of Lagos Business School, decried what he described as “the triumph of politics” and the “politicisation of everything” in the country.
According to him, “We are not thinking development, not thinking growth of our country, not thinking our children and their future, we’re thinking politics.
“Many of the people in positions of authority are so consumed by politics; they don’t think about the Nigerian people.
“I think this obsession with who is winning the next election, can take Nigeria completely away from the path of development.
“If you say ‘good morning’, they say ‘is he against Buhari, is he for Tinubu, is he a Jonathan person’; we don’t have public conversation of quality that can help us change our country for good.
“Take a very simple issue; the government is very concerned about corruption, nothing can more interest me than corruption because it’s done fundamental damage to Nigeria.
“But because of the triumph of politics, if you talk about corruption, you get the spin immediately because of the way we have managed the whole corruption issue, as a flood of issues.”

Nairaland GeneralBank Workers Threaten Nationwide Shut Down by MasterclipHub(op): 9:12am On May 20, 2017
Workers in the financial sector of the economy have advised Nigerians to withdraw enough cash as they finalised arrangement to embark on a nationwide industrial action in protest against what they termed unlawful detention of their president.

This is even as the union has described the allegation of N30 million fraud against the National President of the National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions (NUBIFIE), Danjuma Musa, as outright falsehood.

The union in a letter to Daily Sun and signed by its General Secretary, Muhammed Sheik, in reaction to a publication on Monday said the information were “false untrue and fallacious”.
The union has therefore threatened to embark on a nationwide strike if the Nigeria Police fails to release its President, Danjuma Musa, who was arrested and detained last week.
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, the General Secretary, Muhammed Sheikh, said the union’s president has remained incommunicado since he was taken away by some SARS members to Area F Police Station on May 11.
‘’If it was an arrest, he will be allowed to speak to his lawyer or family members. On May 12, when we found him in Area F, Ikeja, the police accused him of stealing and threat to life.
‘’Later, that same day, Musa called that he has been flown to federal SARs in Abuja and till today, members of the union have called but his phones cannot be reached,’’ Sheikh said.
He said the union discovered that a former dismissed worker of Enterprise Bank who claimed to be a factional NUBIFIE Acting Secretary was behind the arrest.
According to him, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) should know that he cannot work for a group of people against Nigerian workers and leadership of NUBIFIE.
He therefore advised the general public to withdraw their money from banks as from this week, noting that the union in protest will ensure all banks are closed if Danjuma Musa is not released in good condition of health. He, however, said the union members would made a peaceful protest to Area F Police Station at Ikeja to request for the release of their President.
He appealed to the IGP to investigate the allegation against the union’s president and leadership, adding that the issue had been reported at the Federal Criminal Investigation Bureau, Abuja, before now.

Adding that he's learned how to deal with "some real hard classes" and get over the disappointment of a poor score on a test.
