Today, Seven bills were signed into law by Governor Ambode of Lagos State and the most significant of which is the Electricity Power Sector Reform Law which gives legal backing to the Embedded Power Programme.

According to the governor, this will help us achieve our electricity generation plan to provide 24-7 uninterrupted electricity supply to Lagosians.

Other bills signed into law today are the Amended Land Use Charge Bill, the School of Nursing Bill, the Cooperative College Bill, the Cancer Research Institute Bill, the Amended Customary Court Bill and the Yoruba Language Preservation bill.

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday, said it was unfair for people to continue to create the impression that he is not doing anything about the ongoing clashes between farmers and herdsmen in Benue, Adamawa, Taraba states and other parts of the country.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President spoke while receiving a delegation of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria led by Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday.

Buhari said because he was aware of the enormity of the problems, he was doing his best to get law enforcement agencies to be on the alert.
While condemning the killings, the President said security operatives would ensure prosecution of perpetrators and all those found with illegal arms in the affected areas.
He said, “The impression created that I was sitting in an air-conditioned office and home, enjoying myself while these things happened, is dishonest.

“At every step, I have tried to foresee these problems because I have the experience as a former military officer who commanded three out of the four divisions of the Nigerian Army in Lagos, Ibadan and Jos.
"I am quite aware of the problems we have and I am doing my best to get law enforcement agencies to be on alert.”

The President explained that the cattle colonies policy proposed by the Federal Government in response to the frequent clashes between herdsmen and farmers in the country is not meant to colonise any part of the country.
He said government’s intention was to create grazing locations for cattle rearers.

A British company has released the first pictures of a ‘smart condom’ which collects very intimate data about the sex life of anyone brave enough to wear it.
The device is called the i.Con and can detect sexually transmitted infections as well as sending data about a sex session straight to the wearer’s smartphone.


British Condoms said its ‘revolutionary wearable tech for the bedroom’ measures the number of calories burned during intercourse, the speed of a man’s thrusts, how long he lasts and even what positions are used.
The condom firm said its invention would help men see how they ‘stack up to other people from around the world.’
Adam Leverson, lead engineer for the i.Con Smart Condom, said: “It’s here and it’s beautiful. We wanted the i.Con to look refined, non-intrusive and lightweight – the finished article is nothing short of any of those things.

“There’s a lot of tech packed into the i.Con and for us to be able to deliver it in such a way that there is absolutely no hindrance to the user was our main goal – and I think we have gone above and beyond with the i.Con to make sure of this.
“I’m just so happy that we can now share the i.Con with the world!”
The smart condom is a small band which fits around the bottom of a man’s joystick, which means wearers will still need to strap on a normal condom to get full protection.

It is waterproof and features a band that’s “extraordinarily flexible to ensure maximum comfort for all sizes.”
Bizarrely, it even lights up to provide illumination for both partners’ private parts.
John Simmons, a spokesperson for British Condoms, added: “We’re extremely excited to share with the world the first glimpse of the i.Con Smart Condom Ring due to go on sale in the UK in January 2018.

“It’s truly the next step in wearable tech and we believe we have pioneered a product that will not only bring an extra element of fun into the bedroom, but will also help indicate potential STI’s present as well as prevent condom slippage, a leading cause of unplanned pregnancy in the UK.”
The condom company claimed 900,000 people have already written to express interest in the gadget.

Nigerian professional dancer Odumewu Debbie, a.k.a Pinki Debbie has joined other Nigerians like Kaffy and DJ Obi on the Guinness world record.

She just broke the record for the longest dance marathon which was previously held by an Indian woman, Kalamandalam Hemaletha who danced 123 hours 15 minutes.

Pinki Debbie has danced for over 124 hours as at 12:00am on November 23rd, 2017. and is still dancing.

She will be ending the challenge by 4pm on November 23rd, 2017. Congrats to her. See more photos below

The University Authority concluded merit admission few weeks back and in keeping with Federal Government requirement sent the list of all admitted students to Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for vetting and necessary approval before final release.

The University had hoped that the processing will be finished on time. This prompted the University Authority to fix November 20, 2017 as resumption date for all students both old and new.

Unfortunately JAMB is yet to conclude vetting on the University Admission list. The University Authority wished to use this medium to apologise to parents and those waiting for the Admission list for this un envisaged delay.
Current information at our disposal indicates that JAMB is likely to concluding all vetting on this list this week and the University will immediately upload the merit list for all admitted students to access.

While old students will still return today Monday 20th November, 2017 as earlier scheduled, newly admitted students are to proceed to the University, without delay, for registration and commencement of lectures.

Nigeria’s first Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme died on November 19, in London, the United Kingdom.
Ekwueme was flown abroad with the support of the Federal government after he slumped in his home in Anambra State.

Here, GIFTEDBLOG brings you things you need to know about the late Anambra-born politician:

1.The former Vice President wedded his wife, Beatrice on December 19, 1959 and their union is blessed with children.

2. Ekwume hailed from Anambra and was born on October 21, 1932.

3. Ekwueme was the Ide of the Oko kingdom in Anambra State, where his younger brother, Lazarus, is the traditional ruler.

4. The late former Vice-President worked briefly with ESSO West Africa, Lagos, overseeing the Construction and Maintenance department.

5. He started primary school at the St John’s Anglican Central School, at Ekwulobia, then he proceeded to King’s College, Lagos.

6. He also attended the University of London; King’s College; Lagos, Nigerian Law School; University of Strathclyde and University of Washington.

7. He founded Ekwueme Associates, Architects and Town Planners, the first indigenous architectural firm in Nigeria.

8. Ekwueme was an architect who started his professional career as an Assistant Architect with a Seattle-based firm, Leo A. Daly and Associates, and also with the London-based firm Nickson and Partners.

9. Before he gained national and international limelight as the Vice President of Nigeria in 1979, he was actively involved in the socio-economic development of his community.

10. He was the leader of the Organisation of Africa Unity (OAU) observer team to the Tanzanian Presidential and Parliamentary election in 2000.

11 Ekwueme was also a member of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Council of Elders.

A very vocal anti-LGBTQ lawmaker has resigned after being caught having sex with another man.

Wesley Goodman, a Republican Ohio state representative who was elected in 2016, resigned earlier this week after it came to light that he’d engaged in “inappropriate behavior” of a sexual nature with another man sometime this year. Mind you, Goodman is married to a woman.
Ohio House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger confirmed the incident in a statement that read: “I met with him later in the day where he acknowledged and confirmed the allegations.

"It became clear that his resignation was the most important course of action for him, his family, the constituents of the 87th House District and this institution.”

Goodman seemed to also confirm the incident, saying in another statement that goes: "We all bring our own struggles and our own trials into public life. That has been true for me, and I sincerely regret that my actions and choices have kept me from serving my constituents and our state in a way that reflects the best ideals of public service. For those whom I have let down, I’m sorry.”

Goodman, who is married to a Bethany , presented himself as a conservative Christian who is openly against religious liberty. He strongly condemned homosexuality and endorsed “natural marriage” (i.e heterosexual marriage) as the only valid marital option.

On his Twiiter account, which he has now made private, he describes himself as “Christian. American. Conservative. Republican. Husband to @Beth1027.” On his website, which has now been taken down, he also shared his opposition to homosexuality.

A Washington Post story suggests this is not the first time Republican lawmakers have been made aware of Goodman’s private sexual behavior, and that not all of his behavior has been consensual in nature.

According to documents and correspondence obtained by the Post, Tony Perkins — of the conservative Christian Family Research Council — had privately urged Goodman to drop out of the Ohio state representative race following reports that he had fondled an 18-year-old at a campaign fundraiser, alongside other similar incidents.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that it will remain vigilant in collation of results until the announcement of the final result and winner of the Anambra governorship election.

INEC Director of Publicity and Voter Education, Mr Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi told newsmen on Saturday that the commission would continue to ensure that all the processes of the election went down well.

"Election can be manipulated at any stage, so we have to be vigilant until the final result is collated and the winner is announced by the commission.
“The collation of result from the units to the state level is on going. Until the final result is announced, INEC remains vigilant to ensure that the people’s votes count.
“So we are still vigilant at every stage,” Osaze-Uzzi said.
He assured that all votes cast would be properly recorded, transmitted and collated at the end of the day.
On the general assessment of the election, Osaze-Uzzi said the voting process was generally peaceful and was in accordance with plan, except for the late commencement of poll in some few units.

“Generally the election has been peaceful and we are very happy. The turnout look to me better than the last two previous governorship elections,”‎ he said.
On the allegation that there was no election at Okpoko in Ogbaru and Umudim in Nnewi North council areas, Osaze-Uzzi said the matter was also being investigated by the commission with a view to finding appropriate solution to the problem.

“It is being investigated and I think it has to do with late arrival or shortage of materials.
"The matter was resolved but a bit late. The community was saying we should reschedule the election in the affected unit to tomorrow, but we are looking at the best option,” he added.

The National chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Victor Oye has said that results so far collated from polling units showed that the party’s candidate, Willie Obiano has won the governorship election.

He said, “I have a situation room here in my house, and from the results collated so far from the various polling units across the state, we have won.

“I already said it before in a press interview that after listening to INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu during the stakeholders meeting that I was sure he would conduct a credible election.
“What I am saying is that nothing short of the results collated from units would be accepted. It is not possible for them to declare a contrary result.
“I am confident that we have already won this election.”

Incumbent Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, came under attacks Saturday after addressing his supporters at a polling unit, with activists accusing him of violating the Electoral Act.

Activists said the governor’s address constituted a form of campaigning, which the law says must end 24 hours before voting.

“For the purpose of this Act, the period of campaigning in public by every political party shall commence 90 days before polling day and end 24 hours prior to that day. This refers to a registered political party or any person acting on its behalf during the 24 hours before polling day,” the Act reads in section 99 (1 and 2).
The governor cast his vote around 10 a.m. at Eri Primary School, Unit 004, Otuocha 1, Aguleri, Anambra East on Saturday, before speaking to his supporters.
Abiola Akiyode of the Transition Monitoring Group, condemned the governor’s action describing it as a “temptation” the governor should have avoided.
“The most worrisome aspect (of this election) is that the governor came with a microphone to address the people. I think it is a sort of campaign. Since I have been observing, I have never seen any governor go to that extent to talk to people on election day. I think he should have avoided the temptation even if people are pushing him to do something”, she said.

Speaking further, Mrs. Akiyode said the governor’s address is a form of campaign given its content and timing.
“What he spoke about is a sort of campaign. Saying that at the end of the day he would have cause to be happy. I think these are not things one should expect on election day.”
However, the governor was not able to use the card reader at his polling unit as the machine malfunctioned.

YDP candidate, Yul Edochie has dropped out of the Anambra Gubernatorial Elections and has pledged his support to the Incumbent governor and candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA), Willie Obiano.

Edochie, in a video released on Saturday, urged Anmabrarians to vote for Obiano, adding that the party, APGA was the soul of the State. He said that Anambrarians should not sit down and allow ‘Charlatans’ take over the state.

He finalized by saying that the people should embrace APGA since it was the party that was left behind for them by the late Biafran warlord, Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu.

Barely few hours to ‎today’s governorship election in Anambra State, the police have averted what could have been a major disaster in Onitsha, the commercial city of the State.

GIFTEDBLOG gathered that around 12.30 pm, two high caliber improvised explosive devices (IED’s) were discovered near Onitsha North Police Station yesterday.

A distress call was made to men of the Nigerian Police Anti-bomb squad who swiftly responded and cordoned off the entire area.
The IEDs were ‎successfully demobilized and removed by men of the Anti-Bomb squad under the Supervision of Deputy Inspector General of Police, Joshak Habila.

DIG Habila could not be reached as of the time this report was filed.
The incident has heightened tension in Anambra State yesterday, ahead of today’s election.
The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has been championing a total boycott of the election.

Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has declared November 17, 2017, as a work-free day to enable civil servants in the state to relocate to their electoral wards to be able to participate in the governorship polls scheduled for November 18th.

The governor made the announcement when he addressed civil servants during the 2017 African Public Service Day at Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka.

Obiano also announced the payment of their leave allowance on the 15th of November, as well clear matters concerning the contributory pension whereby he dismisses the insinuation that his administration has mandated all workers under the state to enroll and contribute their pension adding that his government has set up a committee to examine the programme and advice government on what to do.

He, however, appealed to them to make sure they not only cast their votes but also to protect their votes as his victory will determine the sustenance of the incentives they are enjoying as Anambra workers.

World Poverty Clock - a non-governmental organisation in Vienna funded by the German government and led by Homi Kharas, deputy director of the Brookings Institution in the US, and Wolfgang Fengler, a World Bank lead economist, is predicting that Nigeria will overtake India as the country with one of the world's poorest people. Read excerpts from Finnacial Times' report below.

An estimated 47m people, almost equivalent to the population of Colombia, are likely to escape extreme poverty this year. But that will not be enough to get anywhere near the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal of ending extreme poverty — defined as living on less than $1.90 a day at 2011 purchasing power parity prices — by 2030.

By 2030, there will be 200m fewer people living in extreme poverty than there are today. However, 438m, or 5 per cent of the world’s population, will still be below the extreme poverty line/

This year, for example, the extreme poverty level is rising in 30 countries; in these nations a total of 9m more people will be living in extreme poverty at the end of 2017 than 12 months previously.

“Very few countries in Africa are making fast enough progress on ending poverty, and in two large countries, Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo, their populations are growing faster than their economic growth, so poverty will likely continue to rise,” Mr Kharas said. “We need a dramatic break from current trends in over 30 countries in order to end poverty worldwide.”





Nigeria’s population in extreme poverty is rising by 5.7 people per minute and that in DRC by 3.6 people per minute. The rest of Africa is reducing poverty by 4.7 people per minute.

The situation in Nigeria is such that in February next year it will overtake India as having the most people living in extreme poverty in the world, at 82m, the clock predicts.

The forecasts are compiled from hundreds of data sets, including figures from national governments, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

Mr Kharas said it was important to address the challenge, “not in global terms, and instead to look at it country-by-country”.

“We may be able to accept that small pockets of poverty remain in some countries — in fact some poverty is present even in the richest countries — but we want to avoid any individual countries, even ones with small populations, being in deep poverty,” he said.

The UN’s SDG is unlikely to be met because, globally, the rate of poverty reduction is slowing — largely on account of Asia getting close to ending extreme poverty. Meanwhile, many parts of Africa are making insufficient progress, the clock reveals.

The extreme poverty rate in Africa will drop from 34 per cent this year to 23 per cent in 2030, the clock predicts. But the absolute number is likely to be only slightly lower than what it is now because of population growth.

Medical doctors in Uganda have began an indefinite strike at all government facilities, despite a reported threat to jail striking medics.



The country's doctors are protesting poor pay, a lack of medical equipment and what they say are the arbitrary arrests of their colleagues accused of corruption.



Uganda's Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda met with organisers to urge them to call off the walk out while the government looked into their demands. However, his request was shot down with boos. Last week, President Yoweri Museveni said he would call a state of emergency should the strike go ahead.



The Uganda Medical Association said he also threatened to arrest striking doctors although the president's press secretary denied this.

There is tension in Anambra State following reported death of over 50 worshipers as gunmen launched early morning attack during a Sunday service.
The attack occurred at ‎St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Ugwu Oye in Ozubulu, Anambra State.
News of the reported attack, which is being shared in various platforms read:

Willie Obiano, the state governor has called for calm and he has also visited the scene of the attack to commiserate with the parishioners.
According to Channels TV, Governor Obiano condemned the attack and promised to ensure that the culprits are brought to justice. Garba Baba Umar, the Commissioner of police in the state, also confirmed the attack.

A source earlier reported that youths suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) reportedly disrupted a church programme attended by a governorship aspirant in Anambra state.

This is not a time for blame games ,but a time for great people created by great God to stand up and secure our people .
Security agency must do everything to arrest the perpetuators of Ozubulu Massacre for them to face the law.
No excuse should make anyone to move into a Church of God and start shooting innocent worshipers !

Our generation must not be intimidated by the agents of darkness !!!

The final year students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Economics Department) today been Monday 24, July 2017 wrote their last exam as an undergraduate of this noble institution.
What a happy and memorable day for them, as all the graduates were jubilating some of them were poured water (including dirty water) especially those staying in boys' hostel inside the school near the economics Departmental building.

Some boys were even waiting patiently for the D-time with their buckets filled with water beside the departmental building, while some were hanging around in front of the hostel.
