Politics › 'They had it coming,’ Rapper Skales reacts to EFCC officer’s death by MasterJayJay(op): 5:49pm On Jan 20, 2025
Nigerian rapper and singer, Raoul Njeng-Njeng, popularly known as Skales, has taken to social media to express outrage, recounting a personal encounter with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission following the death of one of its officers during a raid.

The EFCC confirmed that Assistant Superintendent Aminu Salisu was fatally shot during an operation in Awka, Anambra State, on January 17, 2025.

According to EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, on Sunday, Salisu was part of a team conducting a raid on a property housing 37 suspected internet fraudsters.

Reacting to the news in a series of posts via X on Monday, Skales described his own past experience with the anti-graft agency, sharing details of a traumatic encounter involving a raid at his home.

“Well when they came to my house, they didn’t ask; they didn’t knock; they just broke the door and I’m not a fraudster. Plus, my whole family was there with me, including my newborn… imagine being woken up with four AK-47s and three sledgehammers like a gaddamn horror movie, and all this because they saw luxurious cars in front of my house,” he wrote.

Skales, whose stage name is an acronym for Seek Knowledge Acquire Large Entrepreneurial Skills, expressed his frustration at the EFCC’s methods.

“Imagine the trauma … I still wake up every 4-6 am to look outside my window if someone is trying to break in … they also act like criminals and scare the living shit out of the innocent.. if you’ve never experienced them, you will never understand the scar and trauma they live on you and I’ve never committed such crime in my life… so they had it coming I don’t care,” he said.

The musician’s remarks came after Oyewale disclosed that Salisu was killed by a suspected internet fraudster, identified as Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu.

The EFCC stated that Ikechukwu, alerted by CCTV surveillance, refused to open his door to the investigators and instead opened fire, killing Salisu and injuring another officer.

Oyewale described the attack as “cold-blooded,” adding, “The EFCC expresses grief on the loss of one of its officers… It is heinous to reduce the death of a gallant officer who was carrying out patriotic and official duties to social media razzmatazz.”

Skales, however, criticised the EFCC’s operations, alleging abuse of power and extortion.

“That organisation need to be scraped out or reformed but we all know there’s no such thing as reform in this country…I use to rate them but till I found out they use that organisation to abuse power and extort young people of money,” he added.

Despite expressing sympathy for the loss of life, Skales said he remained unapologetic about his sentiments.

“It’s quite unfortunate that someone lost his life, but they had it coming. Imagine the trauma I and my family still face till now,” he said.

Meanwhile, the EFCC called for respect and understanding during this period, stating that the operation was in accordance with its protocols and urging the public to avoid spreading false narratives about the incident.

the question we should all ask is can an Igbo man speak ikwere Languege or a topical ikwerre man speak Igbo language?

history will never forget that an ikwerre man, a village in Niger delta colonized the whole Igbo nation
When ignorance is your food, nonsense questions and statements are inevitable.

Igbo 101: There are many dialects in Igboland. A man from Ishiagu in Ebonyi state who has never traveled out from his village can barely understand an Ngwa man in Abia. An Igberre man in Abia that has never traveled outside his village can barely understand Onicha dialect in Anambra.

Did Ikeduru colonize Igbo because Iwuanyawu was the PG of Ohaneze?

Ogbakor is an Igbo word that anyone who understands central Igbo knows. What is 'Ogbakor' doing in 'Ogbakor Ikwerre'?

Trump says he will issue executive order Monday expanding time before TikTok law takes effect
Trump says he wants 50% American ownership
TikTok stops working in US before federal ban Sunday
WASHINGTON, Jan 19 (Reuters) - TikTok said on Sunday said it was restoring its service after President-elect Donald Trump said he would revive the app's access in the U.S. when he returns to power on Monday.
The statement came after U.S. users reported being able to access the Chinese-owned service's website while the far more widely used TikTok app itself did not appear to be immediately available.
"In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service," TikTok said in a statement that thanked Trump for "providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties (for) providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive."
TikTok stopped working for its 170 million American users late on Saturday before a law shutting it down on national security grounds took effect on Sunday. U.S. officials had warned that under Chinese parent company ByteDance, there was a risk of Americans' data being misused.
Trump said he would "extend the period of time before the law's prohibitions take effect, so that we can make a deal to protect our national security."

"I would like the United States to have a 50% ownership position in a joint venture," he wrote on Truth Social.
Trump said the executive order would specify there would be no liability for any company that helped keep TikTok from going dark before his order.
Trump had earlier said he would most likely give TikTok a 90-day reprieve from the ban after he takes office, a promise TikTok cited in a notice posted to users on the app.

"A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can't use TikTok for now. We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office. Please stay tuned," a message notified users of TikTok, which disappeared from Apple (AAPL.O), opens new tab and Google app stores late on Saturday.
Even if temporary, the unprecedented shutdown of TikTok is set to have a wide-ranging impact on U.S.-China relations, U.S. politics, the social media marketplace and millions of Americans who depend on the app economically and culturally.

Politics › Kidnapping: Nigeria may have paid N10 trillion ransom last year – Soludo by MasterJayJay(op): 8:09pm On Jan 17, 2025
Awka- ANAMBRA State governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has lamented the growing incidence of kidnapping in the country, saying Nigerians may have paid no less than N10 trillion as ransom for kidnapped victims last year.

In an emotion-filled address he delivered during this year’s armed forces remembrance day celebration in Awka, Soludo commended soldiers for enduring all manner of horrendous inconveniences to secure the people, including sleeping in the bush sometimes.

He said: “According to the published statistics, last year, by the National Bureau of Statistics, more than two trillion naira was paid as ransom. But that was the reported one.

“We believe that for every one reported, more than five or six were probably not reported. And so, if you then cascade that, maybe then more than ten trillion was paid as ransom, kidnapping for ransom has become the most lucrative business in town.

“In Anambra State, these hoodlums organize themselves to attack the police, the army, the navy, the civil defence, the vigilante, and all those involved in trying to secure us.

“When they started this mission initially, they came on a populist stand, concealing their real intentions. This was sold to Ndi Anambra and largely, a large part of the South East, and people were going into the bush to secure them, to save them against what they called the herders, the herdsmen.

“They will go to the checkpoints and shoot policemen and take their AK-47 rifles. They will go and dismantle the barracks, cart away the weapons, and several people.

“I must say, a large chunk of society were complicit in silence, not speaking out, or doing nothing, or saying nothing. We hardly condemn these activities and actions by these hoodlums, and now with this arms that they’ve accumulated, they’ve gone into the bush and organized themselves. Of course, how do they feed on a day-to-day basis? How do they feed their families?

“I want us also to remember that many of the security personnel who have died in the last few years did not die at the warfront, fighting another country. They died in the line of duty, coming to keep the peace, and the criminals intentionally, deliberately, in an organized fashion, went after them, killed them, and leaving their widows and widowers behind.

“We must remember that we are part of the problem, and unless we understand that we are part of the problem, by either keeping silent and not saying anything, not condemning these actions when they are perpetrated, or even giving out information about the identity of the perpetrators, to that extent, we also share responsibility.

“It will be sheer hypocrisy for us to come every year to say we are remembering these people, while the threats are still within and amongst us.

“These criminals are not spirits, they live amongst us, they live in our villages, they are people’s brothers, they are people’s children, they are people’s relations, they are people’s husbands and wives, they live amongst us.

“It is not just enough to walk every fifteenth of January, solemnly walk, and lay the wreath, and remember our fallen heroes. We must make the point and realize that we are contributing, one way or the other, by acts of omission or commission, in having a continuing flow of people who die needlessly and senselessly.”

The governor said that when the state officially unveils its new comprehensive security architecture this weekend, it would go after these criminals in a comprehensive and sustainable manner.

He said that, hopefully, the new law, titled, the Homeland Security Law of Anambra State, which is before the House of Assembly now, would have been in place.

“Anambra people cannot wait to have that comprehensive law from the House of Assembly that will codify several of these misdemeanors and criminal activities; so we can have the legal basis to be able to prosecute and go after these criminals.

“We must cleanse Anambra, and we will also be calling on everybody, all citizens, all residents of Anambra, that it is our homeland and everybody has something to do. Even if you can’t do anything physically, at least you can say something. You know something, you say something.

“I want to call on our people that this moment today, the fifteenth day of January, while we remember the dead, while we celebrate the living, all of us as a people must remember that the issue of security is our collective responsibility. “

The governor urged the people to continue to work together to build a safer, more secure, and more prosperous Anambra State.
