In as much your advice to the parenting guidelines might be helpful but advising the parents that braces is only for only cosmetic reason is wrong.

1. Braces and other fixed appliances are used in Dento-facial orthopedics to correct wrong position of bones and teeth.

Because some of this conditions, affects the functions of the jaws which influence healthy living and diet as they might not be able to chew very well. This is excluding the esthetics.

2. No where will an Orthodontics ( a dentist who specializes in correcting wrong jaw and teeth positions) will require a referral letter from a GP before seeing a patient. If such is required, it will be from a General Practice Dentist.

To conclude, this your story is more of fictional than real issue. But try and get your facts correct before giving such advice whether real or fake because this boy in question might actually have real dental concerns that needs an Orthodontics expertise.

NB: What most celebrities use (men in particular) are usually grills and not braces as insinuated.
