FRIDAY, 1 SEPTEMBER 2017 OAU Introduces Computer Based Post-UTME By Farombi Oluwaseun The 2017 Obafemi Awolowo University Post-UTME will be a Computer Based Test, OAU Peeps News Agency can confirm. This decision was reached at the Senate meeting that held on Wednesday this week. During the meeting, the OAU Management got a nod from its Senate to re-introduce examination to screen intending students, but this time, not the traditional Paper Pencil Test, rather, a computer based one. This development comes on the heel of federal government's repentance, allowing universities to conduct tests for aspirants seeking admission into their citadel. Confirming the development, the Dean of Students' Affairs, Prof. I. O. Aransi told OAU Peeps on phone that the Post-UTME will be a Computer Based Test as the deadline set by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for the submission of merit list is October 15, 2017. The Dean however advised all prospective candidates to stay away from unfounded reports and fraudulent rumours stating that the screening form is already out. "The advertisement will be on the school website very soon," Aransi added. Part of the recommendations put forward to the Senate by the Committee of Deans, as obtained by OAU Peeps News Agency include that the registration portal be opened to aspirants starting from Monday, September 11 and the screening examination starting on September 18. According to the same proposition, the charges for the screening will be the same amount as what was charged last year (N2,000 JAMB Charges and N5,000 for the use of CBT facilities totaling N7,000). All of these subjected to the approval of the Senate at Wednesdays meeting |

The Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife will soon decide whether or not the institution will revert to its old method of admitting students, that is, conducting an entrance test (Post-UTME) or maintain the method it used for admission last year. Recall, earlier this week, the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu announced that the federal government has lifted the ban it placed on varsities from conducting another admission test after the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). While responding to enquiry from OAU Peeps News Agency, the Registrar of the institution, Dotun Awoyemi said the outcome of the Stakeholders Meeting with JAMB next weekend will inform the decision OAU will take concerning admission this year."Let's wait and see what comes out of the Stakeholders Meeting with JAMB later in the month, then the University will follow the directives that would be given," the Registrar informed OAU Peeps. JAMB will hold the policy committee meeting on August 21 and 22 that will determine cut of points for admission this year into various courses in Nigerian tertiary institutions. |

JAMB commences sale of Direct Entry forms The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has commenced the sale of the 2017 Direct Entry application form. According to the board sale of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination form for foreign students and Nigerians who are based abroad has also commenced. The board also said that students who went through the Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board programme in various universities in the country are expected to obtain the DE form in order to gain admission into 200 level. The Head of Information, JAMB, Mr.Fabian Benjamin, said this on Tuesday in a press statement made available to our correspondent.Benjamin who said that the board has yet to commence the process for the change of course and institution for candidates, warned candidates not to pay the N5,500 cost of the form into individual accounts. He said, “The process is as it was with the UTME where you create a profile and obtain the pins and proceed for biometric capturing at the CBT centres for Direct Entry candidates. We urge all candidates wishing to register through DE to obtain the pins at Interswitch, Remita or any of the commercial banks approved earlier for the vending of UTME pins. “The board also wishes to state that it has not commenced the change of course and institutions. We will soon begin and when we do start, the changes will be done in all approved CBT centres nationwide. Candidates need not necessarily come to the board’s centres. It can be done in any of the CBT centres. This is to avoid overcrowding of our offices for services that can be obtained at the utmost comfort by the candidates. “The delay has been occasioned by our preparation to ensure that the system is smooth and without encumbrances. The public is urged to note that every candidate desirous of a change of course or institution will be allowed to do so as the platform will be open until the close of admission. In view of this, candidates are not to patronise any fraudulent individuals or organisations but to visit approved CBT centres and never to hesitate to cross check any information they are not clear about.’’ |
chrisseun:Well for DE only their O'Level was computed |
*How To Calculate Your OAU Screening Score* This is to inform all OAU Aspirant that they can calculate their screening marks using UTME/ O'level 50:50 ratio utilised last year. How to Calculate Screening. 1. Both the UTME score and your O'level results' grades are computed to assess you. 2. For the screening, UTME result weighs 50% of your total score and the remaining 50% from your O'level results. 3. Your best 8 subjects are computed; With A1 = 8, B2 =7, B3 = 6, C4 = 5, C5 = 4, C6 = 3, and so on. 4. Maximum points from your best 8 O'level subjects is 64( A1 = 8 X 8 subjects). 5. Your O'level points is then converted to 50% (Assuming is your O'level points, then, it will now be calculated thus: Total best 8 O'Level points /64 X 50). 6. For your UTME points, it will be calculated thus: Your UTME score/400 X 50. 7. Your final merged score, which will be used for admission now = UTME points (maximum of 50) + O' level points (maximum of 50) = 100. *All Aspirants are to note that no official cutoff mark have been released and the above calculation method was used last year and not guaranteed to remain this year.* |
