POLICE SUMMONS OKOBO COUNCIL SECRETARY OVER ALLEGED CERTIFICATE FORGERY

The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 6, Calabar, has summoned the Secretary of Okobo Local Government Area, Pastor Etim Ibok, over alleged certificate forgery. A group of concerned citizens from Okobo petitioned the Inspector General of Police, claiming that Pastor Ibok forged his credentials from Akunibian Polytechnic in Anambra State.

According to the petition, an investigation by the State Security Services (SSS) in Akwa Ibom State reportedly found that Pastor Ibok did not attend the polytechnic and falsified his credentials. Pastor Ibok has been invited by the police for questioning over the forgery allegations.

Sources revealed that the petition may be orchestrated by former Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Felicia Bassey, who guaranteed Pastor Ibok's appointment. The source alleged that Pastor Ibok's recent shift in loyalty to Council Chairman, Engr. George Henshaw, may have angered the former lawmaker.

Interestingly, Pastor Ibok has publicly denied that Rt. Hon. Felicia Bassey was his guarantor. However, sources disclosed that he is soliciting the interventions of respected stakeholders, including the Archbishop of the Methodist Church Uyo Diocese, Archbishop Koko Bassey, to reach out to the former Deputy Speaker to withdraw the petition.

The allegations raise questions about Pastor Ibok's qualifications and eligibility for the Secretary position, which requires a first degree or its equivalent according to the Akwa Ibom State Local Government Administration Law. The outcome of the police investigation will determine the next course of action.

OKOBO COUNCIL CHAIRMAN APPROVES PAYMENT OF ALLOWANCES FOR POLITICAL APPOINTEES

The Executive Chairman of Okobo Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Engr. George Henshaw, has approved the payment of allowances for political appointees and committee members. The payment, which covers January and February, began yesterday, Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at the Multipurpose Hall Council Secretariat Okopedi and will continue today at the same venue.

Some appointees who received their two months' allowances yesterday expressed gratitude to Chairman Henshaw, describing the gesture as unprecedented. This initiative is part of the chairman's efforts to support the welfare of political appointees and promote community development.

The appointment of 155 political aides according to the Executive Chairman aims to empower the local community with financial capital. Chairman Henshaw has urged beneficiaries to also extend support to others in their communities, acknowledging that his administration might not reach everyone directly.

In a strategic move to galvanize support and foster unity among party faithfuls, the Executive Chairman of Okobo Local Government, Rt. Hon. (Engr.) George Henshaw, hosted a strategic stakeholders' meeting of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday, April 1st, 2025.

The meeting, convened by the Chapter Chairman of the PDP in Okobo LGA, Pastor Asuquo Nduonyi, at the behest of the Executive Chairman, Rt. Hon. (Engr.) George Henshaw, aimed to thank party stakeholders for the valuable support and also brief party members on the upcoming visit of Governor Umo Eno to Oron Federal Constituency.

The meeting, which took place at the council secretariat in Okopedi, brought together major stakeholders from various PDP structures. In his remarks, Chairman Henshaw emphasized the need for collective effort in achieving Okobo's development goals.

He highlighted his administration's achievements within a few months in office, including the completion of a 14-office legislative block with a chamber and committee rooms, construction of solar-powered boreholes, grading of rural feeder roads, and appointment of 154 officials to serve in the local government council. "We have achieved a lot within a short period, but we still have a lot to do," he noted.

Building on this momentum, the chairman also outlined plans for future projects, such as the construction of a Sports Stadium, Health Facilities, and a computer-based center. He expressed gratitude to Governor Umo Eno and the PDP stakeholders for their support.

In light of this development, the council boss announced that the next meeting is scheduled to take place in Oron Federal Constituency, which includes Okobo LGA, on Saturday, April 5th, 2025. He called on all party stakeholders to mobilize and prepare to receive Governor Umo Eno.

Earlier, Pastor Asuquo Nduonyi, the Chapter Chairman of the PDP in Okobo, emphasized the importance of collaboration and development in the local government area during his opening remarks. LAGOS-CALABAR COASTAL ROAD PROJECT: HI-TECH CONSTRUCTION COMPANY ENGAGES ALIGNED COMMUNITIES IN OKOBO

In a bid to facilitate a smooth execution of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road Project, Hi-Tech Construction Company, the project's contractors, on Saturday March 29, 2025 met with stakeholders from the communities that are located along the corridor of the road project in Okobo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The meeting which took place at the Multipurpose Hall Council Secretariat, Okopedi, had in attendance the Executive Chairman of Okobo Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. (Engr.) George Henshaw, the Paramount Ruler of Okobo, His Eminence, Edidem Ita Okokon (Isonsi 1) the Secretary of Council, Pastor Etim Ibok, Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman, Elder Honourable Ben Oyombio, Supervisor for Works and Transport, Esther Effiong Solomon, Supervisor for Youth Development Sports and Internal Security, Mr. Nse Oluhu, Supervisor for Information and Strategic Planning, Mr. Isaac Okon, Aides to the Executive Chairman as well as representatives from the aligned communities.

Chairman Henshaw stressed the need for collective support to ensure the project's successful kickoff, he listed the numerous benefits of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road Project to Akwa Ibom State and Okobo, emphasizing its potential to boost economic growth, improve connectivity, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents. calling on all stakeholders to unite behind the initiative. The Council Boss listed the numerous benefits of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road Project to Akwa Ibom State and Okobo, emphasizing its potential to boost economic growth, improve connectivity, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents.

Speaking on behalf of the company, the Public Relations Officer, Barrister Alphonsus Etim who was joined by Engr. Joseph and Surveyor Edidiong, emphasized Hi-Tech Construction Company's commitment to ensuring a harmonious working relationship with the host communities.

"We believe in engaging with the communities, addressing their concerns, and providing adequate compensation for any inconvenience caused by the project," he stated.
"Our goal is to deliver a world-class infrastructure project that will transform the lives of the people in the region, and we cannot achieve this without the support and cooperation of the host communities."

The Company's spokesperson added that the project is a Federal Government Project under the Federal Ministry of Works, and as such, all compensation and evaluation processes are being handled by the Ministry. "We are working closely with the Ministry to ensure that all necessary procedures are followed, and that the rights of the host communities are protected," he explained.

The community leaders, who spoke during the meeting, expressed their appreciation for the company's willingness to engage with the community and pledged their support for the project. They, however, raised concerns regarding the potential environmental impact of the project and the need for the company to provide adequate compensation to community members who would be affected by the project.

Representatives from the aligned communities, including Odobo Group of Villages, Nsie group of Villages, Eweme Group of Villages, and Issa Okiuso. Group of Villages, were present, comprising village heads, village council chairmen, women leaders, youth leaders, and six other community members.

In response to the concerns raised by the community leaders, Barrister Alphonsus, the Public Relations Officer of Hi-Tech Construction Company, assured them that the project has a thorough environmental impact assessment that will ensure that the project is executed in accordance with international best practices. He also pledged that the company would engage with the community to determine the adequate compensation for community members who would be affected by the project.

Additionally, the company representatives pleaded with the host communities, especially those with crops along the corridor, to urgently harvest them as pecking and opening would begin on Monday, March 31, 2025. This urgent call was made to minimize losses and ensure a smooth project execution.

The meeting provided a platform for Hi-Tech Construction Company to engage with the host communities, address concerns, and outline the project's benefits. As the project progresses, the company's commitment to community engagement and social responsibility is expected to continue, ensuring a positive impact on the affected communities.

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road Project, which spans over 1,100 kilometers, is a major infrastructure project aimed at improving transportation and economic development in the region. The project is expected to be completed in the next five years.

OKOBO COUNCIL CHAIRMAN HOSTS NANS LEADERSHIP

...URGES STUDENTS TO PRIORITIZE ACADEMICS

The Executive Chairman of Okobo Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Engr. George Henshaw, yesterday March 24, 2025, hosted the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) who paid him a familiarization visit at his office.

Addressing the NANS delegation, the Chairman congratulated the NANS Deputy President, Comrade Michael Ayah, an indigene of the area on his new role and acknowledged that it's a great achievement for someone from this part of the world to hold such a position.

The council boss emphasized the importance of education, urging students to prioritize their academic pursuits.
"While you engage in politics and other activities, remember that your studies are paramount," he said.

"Your parents and guardians wish for you to graduate, and the best they can give you is the academic opportunity they've provided."

Sharing his personal experience, Chairman Henshaw recounted how his academic achievements led to his appointment as the executive chairman of the State Technical School Board. He advised students to prioritize their studies, especially those pursuing their first degree, as it is the key to unlocking their future potential.

The Chairman also emphasized the need for students to take responsibility and take charge, as they are the leaders of today. He highlighted his administration's efforts to support students, including the payment of bursaries and provision of grants to law students. He announced plans to establish a CBT center and a stadium in the local government, aimed at adding value to the younger generation.

"We are open, transparent, and accommodative in Okobo local government," Henshaw said. "We have been working hard to support students, including paying bursaries, providing support for law students, and offering project aids."

Engr Henshaw assured the NANS leadership of his administration's commitment to supporting students and promoting education in the local government. He welcomed the NANS team to Okobo local government and expressed his willingness to collaborate with them to achieve their goals.

Earlier in his address, the Deputy President of NANS, Comrade Michael Ayah, expressed gratitude to the Executive Chairman of Okobo Local Government Area, Rt Hon Engr George Henshaw, for the warm reception. Ayah acknowledged the chairman's visionary leadership and applauded the council's efforts in infrastructural development, particularly the proposed stadium, which will help develop talents and put the local government on the map.

The NANS Deputy President seized the opportunity of the meeting to condemn the pervasive harassment and victimization of students in various institutions. He revealed that NANS plans to embark on an awareness campaign aimed at curbing this disturbing trend. President Tinubu declares state of emergency in Rivers, Suspends Governor Fubara, House of Assembly

Text of the Broadcast by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, declaring State of Emergency in Rivers state on Tuesday 18 March 2025

Fellow Nigerians, I feel greatly disturbed at the turn we have come to regarding the political crisis in Rivers State. Like many of you, I have watched with concern the development with the hope that the parties involved would allow good sense to prevail at the soonest, but all that hope burned out without any solution to the crisis.

With the crisis persisting, there is no way democratic governance, which we have all fought and worked for over the years, can thrive in a way that will redound to the benefit of the good people of the state. The state has been at a standstill since the crisis started, with the good people of the state not being able to have access to the dividends of democracy.

Also, it is public knowledge that the Governor of Rivers State for unjustifiable reasons, demolished the House of Assembly of the state as far back as 13th December 2023 and has, up until now, fourteen (14) months after, not rebuilt same. I have made personal interventions between the contending parties for a peaceful resolution of the crisis, but my efforts have been largely ignored by the parties to the crisis. I am also aware that many well-meaning Nigerians, Leaders of thought and Patriotic groups have also intervened at various times with the best of intentions to resolve the matter, but all their efforts were also to no avail. Still, I thank them.

On February 28, 2025, the supreme court, in a judgment in respect of about eight consolidated appeals concerning the political crisis in Rivers State, based on several grave unconstitutional acts and disregard of rule of law that have been committed by the Governor of Rivers State as shown by the evidence before it pronounced in very clear terms:

“a government cannot be said to exist without one of the three arms that make up the government of a state under the 1999 Constitution as amended. In this case the head of the executive arm of the government has chosen to collapse the legislature to enable him to govern without the legislature as a despot. As it is there is no government in Rivers State.”

The above pronouncement came after a catalogue of judicial findings of constitutional breaches against the Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Going Forward in their judgment, and having found and held that 27 members of the House who had allegedly defected

“are still valid members of Rivers State House of Assembly and cannot be prevented from participating in the proceedings of that House by the 8th Respondent (that is, the Governor) in cohorts with four members”

The Supreme Court then made some orders to restore the state to immediate constitutional democracy. These orders include the immediate passing of an Appropriation Bill by the Rivers State House of Assembly which up till now has not been facilitated.

Some militants had threatened fire and brimstone against their perceived enemy of the governor who has up till now NOT disowned them.

Apart from that both the House and the governor have not been able to work together.
Both of them do not realise that they are in office to work together for the peace and good governance of the state.

The latest security reports made available to me show that between yesterday and today there have been disturbing incidents of vandalization of pipelines by some militant without the governor taking any action to curtail them. I have, of course given stern order to the security agencies to ensure safety of lives of the good people of Rivers State and the oil pipelines.

With all these and many more, no good and responsible President will standby and allow the grave situation to continue without taking remedial steps prescribed by the Constitution to address the situation in the state, which no doubt requires extraordinary measures to restore good governance, peace, order and security.

In the circumstance, having soberly reflected on and evaluated the political situation in Rivers State and the Governor and Deputy Governor of Rivers State having failed to make a request to me as President to issue this proclamation as required by section 305(5) of the 1999 Constitution as amended, it has become inevitably compelling for me to invoke the provision of section 305 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended, to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State with effect from today, 18th March, 2025 and I so do.

By this declaration, the Governor of Rivers State, Mr Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Mrs Ngozi Odu and all elected members of the House of Assembly of Rivers State are hereby suspended for an initial period of six months.

In the meantime, I hereby nominate Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as Administrator to take charge of the affairs of the state in the interest of the good people of Rivers State. For the avoidance of doubt, this declaration does not affect the judicial arm of Rivers State, which shall continue to function in accordance with their constitutional mandate.
The Administrator will not make any new laws. He will, however, be free to formulate regulations as may be found necessary to do his job, but such regulations will need to be considered and approved by the Federal Executive Council and promulgated by the President for the state.

This declaration has been published in the Federal Gazette, a copy of which has been forwarded to the National Assembly in accordance with the Constitution. It is my fervent hope that this inevitable intervention will help to restore peace and order in Rivers State by awakening all the contenders to the constitutional imperatives binding on all political players in Rivers State in particular and Nigeria as a whole.

Long live a united, peaceful, secure and democratic Rivers State in particular and the Federal Republic of Nigeria as a whole.

The inaugural meeting, which took place in Uyo, the state capital, was attended by media aides from across the state, with Mr. Ofonime Ekanem, Special Assistant on Media/Publicity to the Executive Chairman of Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, emerged as Chairman of FOLGMA. Other elected officials include Mercy Udoh as Vice Chairman, Victor Paul Unoh (Okobo) as Secretary, and Mbosowo Essien as Public Relations Officer.

The Hypocrisy of Faith: A Call to Authenticity

If attending church every Sunday was a guarantee of a crime-free society, Nigeria would be a shining example of a nation without sin. We would be a country where people live virtuous lives, free from immorality and wrongdoing.

However, the reality is far from this ideal. Today, as we gather in churches across the nation, many of our homes are empty, and our places of worship are filled to capacity. But as the day wears on, the same individuals who sang hymns and recited prayers in the morning will be found in nightclubs, bars, and hotels, engaging in activities that are in direct conflict with the values they claim to uphold.

What's even more disturbing is that the same people who will be in church today, praying and singing to God, will resume work later in the afternoon, probably at 2 pm. But due to challenges, they might arrive late, at 2:30 pm, and still sign the staff register as having resumed at 2 pm. This is a blatant lie.

The same pastor who will be in church today, preaching against bribery and corruption, will go to work tomorrow, Monday, probably as a civil servant or public servant, and will ask someone to 'grease his palm' for certain letters or approvals to be made. This is the height of hypocrisy.

The same choir master or choir mistress who will be singing and praying to God today will be found later in the evening, or another day, committing fornication with someone from the same congregation or elsewhere. Why can't we represent what we believe and value? Why can't we live out our faith with integrity?

I'm not saying that going to church is bad. No, attending church can be a powerful way to connect with our faith, find community, and grow spiritually. But we must go beyond just attending church. We must let our actions and attitudes reflect the values of our faith.

We must recognize that our faith is not just about what we do on Sundays, but about how we live our lives every day. We must strive to be honest, transparent, and accountable in all our dealings. We must treat others with respect, kindness, and compassion.

But unfortunately, the struggle for position and relevance in church, and the power tussle within Christendom, have led many pastors and members astray. These hypocrisies have led to many backsliding in faith, while others are still struggling with their faith.

It becomes difficult to identify an unbeliever from a believer, as going to church programs and being committed, working in the church, become a yardstick for holiness. Those of us who grew up in a very deep-rooted Christian family, and studied the Bible, and grew up with high morals and discipline, find it difficult to associate with hypocrites.

So, my advice is this: connect and commune with Jehovah God through Christ our Lord in your private prayers or home fellowship with your family members. Let us seek a genuine relationship with God, one that is not tainted by hypocrisy or ulterior motives.

May we strive to live out our faith with authenticity and integrity. May our actions and attitudes reflect the values of our faith. May we be the change we wish to see in our world.

ENGR. GEORGE HENSHAW FLAGS OFF GRADING OF RURAL ROADS IN OKOBO, PROMISES RAPID INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT

The Executive Chairman of Okobo Local Government Area, Rt Hon. Engr. George Henshaw, has officially kicked off the grading of rural roads in the eleven political wards, with a pledge to rapidly develop the region's infrastructure.

The flag-off ceremony, which took place at Okopedi, the council headquarters, marked the beginning of a comprehensive road grading project aimed at improving rural accessibility and enhancing economic development in Okobo LGA.

Speaking to journalists after the flag-off, the Chairman explained that the roads approved for grading were carefully selected by Councillors in consultation with key stakeholders from each of the wards.

The Chairman highlighted the significance of the road grading project, emphasizing its benefits for farmers, residents, and businesses. He noted that the improved roads will enhance rural accessibility, facilitate economic growth, and boost the overall quality of life for the people of Okobo.

During the press briefing, the Chairman also took the opportunity to outline his administration's achievements so far and share his vision for the future. When questioned about specific projects, he revealed that the Legislative Council chamber, which he initiated during his tenure as Transition Committee Chairman, is nearing completion and will be commissioned in February.

...Demand appointees to discharge their duties diligently

In a move poised to catapult Okobo Local Government Area to unprecedented heights of development, the Executive Chairman, Rt. Hon. Engr. George Henshaw, has appointed no fewer than 154 new officials to drive progress in the local government.

In a release signed by the Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Elder Ben Oyombio, the Council Boss approved the appointment of 154 new officials, comprising of 10 Political Advisers, 45 Special and Personal Assistants, and 100 Committee Members drawn from each of the political wards of Okobo Local Government Area.

The appointees comprised of people of proven integrity and seasoned politicians who have made an indelible footprint in the sands of time with unique strengths of character and accomplishments in their various endeavors.

Notable among the appointees are Rt. Hon. Deacon Asuquo Koffi, immediate past Vice Chairman of the Council. Other seasoned politicians and experts appointed include Dr. John O. SETTLEMENT OF OKOPEDI/AMAMMONG BOUNDARY DISPUTES

Akwa Ibom State Deputy Governor, H.E. Senator Mrs. Akon Eyakenyi has applauded the role being played by the Transition Chairman of Okobo Local Government Area, Hon. Engr. George Henshaw in the settlement process of the communal boundary dispute between Okopedi and Amammong communities, describing the efforts as highly commendable.

The deputy governor who made the remark on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 when she embarked on inspection tour of the 3.1km Okopedi and Amammong boundary access road opened up by the Transition Chairman as part of efforts to put to an end the perennial land boundary dispute, promised to continue to work with the local government council and other partners to ensure permanent peace return to the two neighbouring communities.

The Deputy Governor who was represented at the inspection visit by her Special Adviser on Boundary Matters, Elder Okokon Uffi, also appreciated the people of Okopedi and Amammong for supporting the boundary demarcation and embracing peace, praised the leadership of the communities for being magnanimous to shift grounds, leading to speedy resolution of the crisis and demarcation of the boundaries.

On his part, the Transition Chairman, Hon. Engr. George Henshaw, appreciated the State Government for the support given to the local government in it's efforts to put an end to the perennial land dispute between Okopedi and Amammong, said the two communities, had agreed on a common boundary that can engender peaceful co-existence between them.

Engr, George Henshaw commended Governor Umo Eno’s administration for being keen about peace and security in all towns, saying this accounted for why the land tussle was resolved amicably.

Present during the inspection tour were, the Vice Chairman of Okobo Local Government Transition Committee, Mr. Anthony Antigha, Head of Environmental Services, Mrs Arit Effiong, Supervisor for Health, Apostle Wisdom Ekong, representative of Okopedi and Amammong communities, security agents, among others.

AKUGFO is a non-profit organisation established by a group of unemployed graduates from Akwa Ibom State in 2022. The Akwa Ibom State graduates found it difficult to enter the labour market because they do not have certain skills that will make it easy for them to be employable or start their own enterprises. These young women and men decided to establish AKUGFO with the hope to assisting fellow graduates find employment and also create employment for others.

OKOBO TRANSITION CHAIRMAN CREATES ACCESS ROAD ALONG THE BOUNDARY BETWEEN OKOPEDI AND AMAMMONG COMMUNITIES

In keeping to his promise and to help put to an end the lingering communal boundary disputes between Okopedi and Amammong autonomous communities, the Transition Committee Chairman of Okobo, Hon. Engr. George Henshaw has created A -3.1km Access road along the boundary between the two communities.

Recall that the Okobo Local Government Area Transition Chairman, Hon. George Henshaw, MNSE, had on Friday, March 1st 2024, during the formalization and final demarcation of the disputed land boundary, promised the two communities that he will send a bulldozer to open up the road from Okopedi down to Amammong if they both accept peace and end the communal conflict.

The Peoples Democratic Party in Eweme Ward One in Okobo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has thanked the Akwa Ibom State Governor, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno on the judicious appointment of their son, Hon. Engr. George Henshaw as Chairman of the Okobo Local Government Transition Committee for the first time in 24 years of democracy in Nigeria, and also restated their unalloyed loyalty and support to His Excellency and the PDP at all levels.

The PDP stakeholders made the commendation during the PDP Ward meeting held on Saturday March 30, 2024 at the party Secretariat, Urue Ita where the Party also passed a vote of confidence and presented Special Recognition Award to Hon. Engr. George Henshaw, himself the Chairman of Okobo Local Government Transition Committee. They said that the honour becomes very important due to the catalogues of achievements of the Transition Chairman across the eleven political Wards of the Local Government Area.

Speaking on behalf of the ward executive and members of the PDP in Eweme Ward One, the ward chairman Elder Effiong Efretuei while presenting the award to Engr. George Henshaw, described him as a courageous politician and uncommon asset to the people of Eweme Development Area.

He particularly appreciated His Excellency the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno for his sincere, unbiased and committed disposition to justice, equity and fairness, as seen in the appointment of an Eweme son as Transition Chairman. He maintained that they are persuaded to believe that, Okobo Local Government Area and Akwa Ibom State will witness an unprecedented transformation in all facets of the economy under Pastor Umo Eno.

The Ward chairman who showered praises on the Okobo Transition Chairman for grading of feeder roads across the eleven political wards in Okobo, ongoing construction of Umo Eno Legislative complex, proposed youths empowerment and water works across the Ward, inclusive political initiative, and also attracted identifiable legacy projects to the ward as well as other wards in the local government.

Elder Effiong Efretuei said the party stakeholders, members and the entire Eweme Ward One communities were very proud of Engr Henshaw, pledged their continued support in any political ambition he might pursue in the future.

Prominent politicians at the meeting including former member of the Okobo Local Government executive council, Chief Dr. Barr. Effiong William Osung, former Executive Director of Akwa Ibom Investment Cooperation, Dr. Friday Antai, in their separate speeches pledged their hundred percent loyalty, and resolved to support Governor Umo Eno administration in the state and that of the Transition Chairman to deliver on the aims and objectives of His Excellency's A.R.I.S.E Agenda, even as they vouch for Engr. Henshaw, whom, the governor has graciously brought on board.

Responding the Okobo Local Government Transition Committee Chairman foremostly thanked God, His Excellency & his people for their tremendous support and encouraged them to remain loyal to the party.

He urged the faithful to continue to support the vision of Governor Umo Eno and his ARISE agenda for rural development and assured them of his commitment to enhancing their welfare through empowerment and other initiatives which he will unveil in the days to come.

Engr Henshaw highlighted the vision/blueprint of His Excellency the Governor of Akwa Ibom so far in office. Mentioned several benefits of his Excellency in Okobo Local Government including the appointments of Personal Assistant to the Governor, Road Construction, facilitating Agriculture for Food sufficiency among others. The chairman used the occasion to received about 100 decampees from YPP and APC back to PDP.

The meeting which was presided over by the Ward Chairman of the party, Elder Effiong Efretuei, had in attendance ward executive members; Hon. Supervisor for Special Duties, Mr. Joseph Mark Effiong, Personal Assistant to the Governor, Mr. Monday Edward Bassey as well as other serving and past political office holders in Eweme Ward One, Okobo Local Government Area.

The Chairman of Okobo Local Government Transition Committee, Honourable Engineer George Henshaw has enjoined the people of Okobo to reflect on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, which signified his undying love for humanity.

He admonished Okobo citizens and residents to love one another and be ready to make sacrifices for the wellbeing of others.

Honourable Henshaw stated these in his Easter message to the people, further called for peace, love and tolerance among the people of the council in the spirit of Easter celebration.

He heartily congratulated Nigerians, the people of Akwa Ibom State and Okobo Local Government, particularly the Christians , as they joined their brethren across the globe in celebrating Easter.

The Atak-Oro born Politician urged all Nigerians to pray for peace and security amidst seemingly intractable insecurity and inflation in the country.

According to him, Easter which is the season of the remembrance of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ marks the trial, sacrifice, victory and completion of the divine mandate of the author of the Christian faith.

The Chairman appealed to all to practise the Christian virtues of sacrifice, patience, love and abiding faith in order for us as Nigerians to have a better tomorrow which has been symbolized in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

While urging the people of Okobo Local Government Area and Akwa Ibom State as a whole to use this festive period to pray for the success of the government of His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, (GCFR) and His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, Engineer Henshaw enjoined them to continue to support Governor His Excellency the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno in his bid to take the state to the greater heights.

"The lesson of Jesus' death and resurrection as explained in the Holy Bible is a demonstration of love and selflessness and as beneficiaries of God's undying love, we must extend same to our fellow human, no matter any vicissitude.

"I urge you all to respect and support all constituted authorities, as every leader is ordained by God. I wish to appeal to my people in Okobo and Akwa Ibom State at large to continue to support our amiable Governor, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno in his bid to transform the state to a greater heights.

"We all have seen the positive development which our amiable Golden Governor has brought to the state within the space of ten months and there is the need for us all to work towards ensuring that the good work continues across every nook and cranny of our dear State.

"On this occasion of Easter feast, I want to enjoin our Christian brothers and sisters in Okobo Local Government, Akwa Ibom State and the world over to pray for peace and security amidst seemingly intractable insecurity and inflation in Nigeria and continue to demonstrate love, promote peace and show good neighbourliness."
