A' IBOM STATE GOVERNMENT COMMENDS OKOBO TRANSITION CHAIRMAN'S EFFORT IN
SETTLEMENT OF OKOPEDI/AMAMMONG BOUNDARY DISPUTES

Akwa Ibom State Deputy Governor, H.E. Senator Mrs. Akon Eyakenyi has applauded the role being played by the Transition Chairman of Okobo Local Government Area, Hon. Engr. George Henshaw in the settlement process of the communal boundary dispute between Okopedi and Amammong communities, describing the efforts as highly commendable.

The deputy governor who made the remark on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 when she embarked on inspection tour of the 3.1km Okopedi and Amammong boundary access road opened up by the Transition Chairman as part of efforts to put to an end the perennial land boundary dispute, promised to continue to work with the local government council and other partners to ensure permanent peace return to the two neighbouring communities.

The Deputy Governor who was represented at the inspection visit by her Special Adviser on Boundary Matters, Elder Okokon Uffi, also appreciated the people of Okopedi and Amammong for supporting the boundary demarcation and embracing peace, praised the leadership of the communities for being magnanimous to shift grounds, leading to speedy resolution of the crisis and demarcation of the boundaries.

On his part, the Transition Chairman, Hon. Engr. George Henshaw, appreciated the State Government for the support given to the local government in it's efforts to put an end to the perennial land dispute between Okopedi and Amammong, said the two communities, had agreed on a common boundary that can engender peaceful co-existence between them.

Engr, George Henshaw commended Governor Umo Eno’s administration for being keen about peace and security in all towns, saying this accounted for why the land tussle was resolved amicably.

Present during the inspection tour were, the Vice Chairman of Okobo Local Government Transition Committee, Mr. Anthony Antigha, Head of Environmental Services, Mrs Arit Effiong, Supervisor for Health, Apostle Wisdom Ekong, representative of Okopedi and Amammong communities, security agents, among others.

The Akwa Ibom State graduates found it difficult to enter the labour market because they do not have certain skills that will make it easy for them to be employable or start their own enterprises. These young women and men decided to establish AKUGFO with the hope to assisting fellow graduates find employment and also create employment for others.

OKOBO TRANSITION CHAIRMAN CREATES ACCESS ROAD ALONG THE BOUNDARY BETWEEN OKOPEDI AND AMAMMONG COMMUNITIES

In keeping to his promise and to help put to an end the lingering communal boundary disputes between Okopedi and Amammong autonomous communities, the Transition Committee Chairman of Okobo, Hon. Engr. George Henshaw has created A -3.1km Access road along the boundary between the two communities.

Recall that the Okobo Local Government Area Transition Chairman, Hon. George Henshaw, MNSE, had on Friday, March 1st 2024, during the formalization and final demarcation of the disputed land boundary, promised the two communities that he will send a bulldozer to open up the road from Okopedi down to Amammong if they both accept peace and end the communal conflict.

The Peoples Democratic Party in Eweme Ward One in Okobo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has thanked the Akwa Ibom State Governor, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno on the judicious appointment of their son, Hon. Engr. George Henshaw as Chairman of the Okobo Local Government Transition Committee for the first time in 24 years of democracy in Nigeria, and also restated their unalloyed loyalty and support to His Excellency and the PDP at all levels.

The PDP stakeholders made the commendation during the PDP Ward meeting held on Saturday March 30, 2024 at the party Secretariat, Urue Ita where the Party also passed a vote of confidence and presented Special Recognition Award to Hon. Engr. George Henshaw, himself the Chairman of Okobo Local Government Transition Committee. They said that the honour becomes very important due to the catalogues of achievements of the Transition Chairman across the eleven political Wards of the Local Government Area.

Speaking on behalf of the ward executive and members of the PDP in Eweme Ward One, the ward chairman Elder Effiong Efretuei while presenting the award to Engr. George Henshaw, described him as a courageous politician and uncommon asset to the people of Eweme Development Area.

He particularly appreciated His Excellency the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno for his sincere, unbiased and committed disposition to justice, equity and fairness, as seen in the appointment of an Eweme son as Transition Chairman. He maintained that they are persuaded to believe that, Okobo Local Government Area and Akwa Ibom State will witness an unprecedented transformation in all facets of the economy under Pastor Umo Eno.

The Ward chairman who showered praises on the Okobo Transition Chairman for grading of feeder roads across the eleven political wards in Okobo, ongoing construction of Umo Eno Legislative complex, proposed youths empowerment and water works across the Ward, inclusive political initiative, and also attracted identifiable legacy projects to the ward as well as other wards in the local government.

Elder Effiong Efretuei said the party stakeholders, members and the entire Eweme Ward One communities were very proud of Engr Henshaw, pledged their continued support in any political ambition he might pursue in the future.

Prominent politicians at the meeting including former member of the Okobo Local Government executive council, Chief Dr. Barr. Effiong William Osung, former Executive Director of Akwa Ibom Investment Cooperation, Dr. Friday Antai, in their separate speeches pledged their hundred percent loyalty, and resolved to support Governor Umo Eno administration in the state and that of the Transition Chairman to deliver on the aims and objectives of His Excellency's A.R.I.S.E Agenda, even as they vouch for Engr. Henshaw, whom, the governor has graciously brought on board.

Responding the Okobo Local Government Transition Committee Chairman foremostly thanked God, His Excellency & his people for their tremendous support and encouraged them to remain loyal to the party.

He urged the faithful to continue to support the vision of Governor Umo Eno and his ARISE agenda for rural development and assured them of his commitment to enhancing their welfare through empowerment and other initiatives which he will unveil in the days to come.

Engr Henshaw highlighted the vision/blueprint of His Excellency the Governor of Akwa Ibom so far in office. Mentioned several benefits of his Excellency in Okobo Local Government including the appointments of Personal Assistant to the Governor, Road Construction, facilitating Agriculture for Food sufficiency among others. The chairman used the occasion to received about 100 decampees from YPP and APC back to PDP.

The meeting which was presided over by the Ward Chairman of the party, Elder Effiong Efretuei, had in attendance ward executive members; Hon. Supervisor for Special Duties, Mr. Joseph Mark Effiong, Personal Assistant to the Governor, Mr. Monday Edward Bassey as well as other serving and past political office holders in Eweme Ward One, Okobo Local Government Area.

The Chairman of Okobo Local Government Transition Committee, Honourable Engineer George Henshaw has enjoined the people of Okobo to reflect on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, which signified his undying love for humanity.

He admonished Okobo citizens and residents to love one another and be ready to make sacrifices for the wellbeing of others.

Honourable Henshaw stated these in his Easter message to the people, further called for peace, love and tolerance among the people of the council in the spirit of Easter celebration.

He heartily congratulated Nigerians, the people of Akwa Ibom State and Okobo Local Government, particularly the Christians , as they joined their brethren across the globe in celebrating Easter.

The Atak-Oro born Politician urged all Nigerians to pray for peace and security amidst seemingly intractable insecurity and inflation in the country.

According to him, Easter which is the season of the remembrance of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ marks the trial, sacrifice, victory and completion of the divine mandate of the author of the Christian faith.

The Chairman appealed to all to practise the Christian virtues of sacrifice, patience, love and abiding faith in order for us as Nigerians to have a better tomorrow which has been symbolized in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

While urging the people of Okobo Local Government Area and Akwa Ibom State as a whole to use this festive period to pray for the success of the government of His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, (GCFR) and His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, Engineer Henshaw enjoined them to continue to support Governor His Excellency the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno in his bid to take the state to the greater heights.

"The lesson of Jesus' death and resurrection as explained in the Holy Bible is a demonstration of love and selflessness and as beneficiaries of God's undying love, we must extend same to our fellow human, no matter any vicissitude.

"I urge you all to respect and support all constituted authorities, as every leader is ordained by God. I wish to appeal to my people in Okobo and Akwa Ibom State at large to continue to support our amiable Governor, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno in his bid to transform the state to a greater heights.

"We all have seen the positive development which our amiable Golden Governor has brought to the state within the space of ten months and there is the need for us all to work towards ensuring that the good work continues across every nook and cranny of our dear State.

"On this occasion of Easter feast, I want to enjoin our Christian brothers and sisters in Okobo Local Government, Akwa Ibom State and the world over to pray for peace and security amidst seemingly intractable insecurity and inflation in Nigeria and continue to demonstrate love, promote peace and show good neighbourliness."

Chairman of Okobo Local Government Transition Committee, Hon. Engr. George Henshaw on Saturday witnessed the burial of elder statesman and former State Caucus Member and State Linkman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who was laid to rest in his Ikono Offi hometown. cheesy

His remain was laid to rest on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at his compound in Ikono Offi, Okobo Local Government Area, after a funeral service conducted by Redemption Power Church Ikot Ekpene at Community Secondary School Offi.

In his condolence message presented to the deceased family, Engr. Henshaw, said: "The death of Chief Jerry Okpo was a great loss to the local government area and the state in general. The transition chairman added: "Chief Jerry was a loving and caring husband, brother, father, grand father and uncle.

Consoling the widow of the late Nta Nta Oro, the transition chairman maintained that "Your late husband was a very intelligent, resourceful, diligent, meticulous and committed personality, seasoned politician of note and a practical philanthropist

"He was a dependable ally and a delight to be with.To his Community, he gave his all; time, energy and resources, He was indeed a great asset that will be greatly missed by all."

Other dignitaries from the federal and state government delegation at the funeral include: His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, represented by his deputy, Senator Akon Eyakenyi; President of the Nigerian Senate, His Excellency, Chief Dr. God'sWill Obot Akpabio who was represented by Senator representing Eket Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Ekong Sampson; former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Group Captain Sam Enwang; Senator former Governorship candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Distinguished Senator Obong Bassey Albert; former Managing Director of NDDC, Chief Bassey Dan Abia; immediate past sole Administrator of NDDC, Pastor Barr. Chief Jerry Okpo died in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, last December 2023 after a brief illness. He was aged 69.
