One of the close associates of President Buhari, Mamman Daura, has denied claims he dictates to President Buhari on how to preside over the affairs of the country.

Since President Buhari assumed office in 2015, there have been reports that Daura is a strong member of the alleged cabal that controls the Buhari-led administration and dictates to the President.

However, in an interview with BBC Hausa today Tuesday, July 28, Daura said he only advises President Buhari but does not impose his thoughts on the President

When asked about his relationship with President Buhari, he said the President is his uncle.

” My father was their mother’s firstborn. Buhari is the last born,” he said.
When reminded that people had said he and Buhari grew up together and had always been together, he said ” yes…..it’s true.” he responded

Responding to a question inquiring on whether he has been meeting President Buhari to give him advice on different issues concerning Nigeria, Mamman responded

“Yes, I do visit him to greet him. I do give him advice, but if he asked…I advise him. But I don’t go there on my own and insist I must do this or that. No. You don’t do that to the government.”

Commenting on the clamor for power rotation, he said it is high time the country unite and go for the most competent.

“This turn by turn, it was done once, it was done twice, it was done trice… It is better for this country to be one…it should be for the most competent and not for someone who comes from somewhere,” he said.

Hollywood Giant ‘Warner Bros’ Begins Internal Investigation On The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

A Hollywood media giant, Warner Bros. is conducting an internal investigation of The Ellen DeGeneres Show following multiple complaints by employees of the show.

According to The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, a memo was emailed to employees of The Show last week, which stated Warner Bros. will be interviewing current and former staffers about their experience on the set of the talk show, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres.

According to the report, interviews will be conducted by Warner Media’s employee relations group and an unspecified “third party firm,”.

The report comes after several allegations by current and former staffers of the Television show said that they were subjected to a toxic work environment.
Earlier this month, BuzzFeed News published accounts from one current staffer and 10 former staffers who anonymously claimed they were subjected to a “toxic work environment.”

Some workers alleged they were fired after taking medical leave and were subjected to favoritism by executive producers.

In all of these though, Ellen DeGeneres herself was never accused of any of the alleged misconduct even though one anonymous worker stated;

Following the reports of an impending investigation by Warner Bros, the show’s Executive producers Ed Glavin, Mary Connelly and Andy Lassner told E! News they are taking the claims “very seriously.”

Malaysia’s former prime minister, Najib Razak has been sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined £38 million after a court in Kuala Lumpur found him guilty of corruption in the first of five trials over the multi-billion-dollar 1MDB scandal.

The conviction on Tuesday, July 28, makes Najib the first Malaysian leader to be found guilty of corruption.

The 67-year-old who faced seven charges of criminal breach of trust, money laundering, and abuse of power for diverting an estimated 42 million ringgit ($9.8m) from SRC International, a unit of 1Malaysia Development Berhad, into his personal bank accounts, was convicted on all charges.

I, consequently, find the accused guilty and convict the accused on all seven charges,” Judge Mohd Nazlan Ghazali said, referring to the allegations of abuse of power, several counts of money laundering, and criminal breach of trust filed against Najib.
Najib has revealed plans to appeal the 12-year jail sentence and he may not be sent to jail immediately. He wrote on Facebook ‘I am ready’ to take the decision to the Court of Appeals.

If his sentence is upheld, he will also be barred from political office for several years.

The sentence arrives only six days after the Law court placed an order for Najib to pay the government as much as 1.69 billion ringgit ($400m) in unpaid taxes and penalties, covering the years from 2011 to 2017.

His wife, Rosmah Mansor also faces charges of money laundering and tax evasion but has pleaded not guilty.

A woman who caught her boyfriend cheating and nearly killed herself when setting fire to his car outside a motel, has been arrested.

In the video below, the woman dressed in grey pants and a black hoodie appears to be pouring gas or lighter fluid into the car. When she lights the SUV on fire, it explodes, throwing her to the ground. She immediately stood up and ran away as the vehicle continues to burn.

Benjamin William Mkapa, the former President of Tanzania is dead at the age of 81. Mkapa, a skilled diplomat served as president for 10 years from 1995 to 2005.

President Magufuli who announced his death, said Mkapa died at a Dar eS Salaam Hospital in the early hours of Friday July 24, at the age of 81.

Magufuli said;

“It is with great sadness we have lost Mzee (oldman) Benjamin William Mkapa, the former president who died at the hospital in Dar es Salaam where he was admitted. I call upon Tanzanians to receive sad news of his death and to pray for Mzee mkapa who is gone forever.”

The President of the East African country further declared seven days of mourning, during which the national flag will be hoisted at half-mast countrywide. He called on all Tanzanians to remain calm, patient and united during this trying time.
Before becoming the president, Mkapa served at different capacities as a journalist, administrative officer, as minister for science, technology and higher education. He also served as the minister of foreign affairs from 1977 to 1980 and again from 1984 to 1990.

Two gunmen were shot dead on Sunday by Pieter van der Westhuizen, the brother of South African rugby legend Joost van der Westhuizen as they tried to rob a congregation during a church service yesterday.

Three robbers stormed the Querencia Ministries church in Wierda Park, Centurion, South Africa, on Sunday and proceeded to try and rob members of the congregation at gunpoint.

According to Netwerk24, two of the robbers were then killed by Pieter van der Westhuizen who was among the congregation. The third robber was wounded but managed to escape using the car they came with.

According to Ruan, at one point one of the robbers reportedly held a pistol to Erasmus’ head.

The shooter, Van der Westhuizen – a former police officer himself, is co-operating with the police investigation and his lawyer Ulrich Roux has said his client acted in self-defence when he used the weapon to shoot the attackers.

The shooter’s older brother, Joost van der Westhuizen, made 89 appearances in test matches for the national team, scoring 38 tries and participated in three Rugby World Cups. He died in 2017 after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease.

Basic Education minister Angie Motshekga says government is putting the final touches on the coding and robotics curriculum developed for Grades R-9, which is due for completion by the end of July.

Motshekga said this on Wednesday when she tabled the department’s 2020/21 adjusted budget vote during a virtual plenary session.

The initial overall 2020/21 budget allocation for the DBE (before adjustments) was just over R25.3 billion, and this was reduced to over R23.2 billion following budget cuts and adjustments due to Coronavirus spending.

“The DBE has developed the coding and robotics curriculum for Grades R-9, which is currently being repackaged to ensure proper sequencing and seamless progression from one phase to the next.

“We are planning that the repackaging process will be completed by the end of July 2020,” said Motshekga.

After putting the final touches on this curriculum, it will head to the quality council authority, Umalusi, for approval.

The rollout of this curriculum forms part of the department’s strategic implementation of a curriculum with skills and competencies for a changing world in all public schools.

Once approved, teachers and subject advisors will receive training for this curriculum online because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to Motshekga, the Education, Training and Development (ETD) sector and Skills Education Training Authority (SETA) has availed R7 million for this training.

DBE strengthens skills development

To strengthen its skills development initiatives through the three-stream curriculum model, the DBE has partnered with Ford Motor Company. This partnership will see 240 engines donated to technical schools offering Automotive as a subject.

“In our efforts to provide every school with ICT devices, loaded with digital content, the DBE, in partnership with mobile network operators, has completed the audit of all 477 special schools.

“We have also finalised the implementation plan with the mobile network operators to provide all these schools with devices, connectivity, digital content, as well as ICT integration training for teachers,” said Motshekga.

In a bid to digitise schools around the country, the DBE, in partnership with the Communications and Digital Technologies Department, has identified 152 sites in 76 education districts, to equip them with virtual classroom infrastructure.

Through this initiative, the sector will fully embrace the digital revolution of remote learning. Districts will be able to benefit through curriculum specialists’ streamed lessons on digital platforms.

In line with government’s decision to relocate Early Childhood Development (ECD) from the Department of Social Development to the DBE, the department is in the process of amending the Basic Education Law Amendment (BELA) Bill.

The amendment of BELA caters for compulsory attendance – first, in Grade RR by learners turning five (5) years of age; and second, Grade R by learners turning six (6) years of age.

To assist in finding solutions to some of the challenges facing the ECD sector, and to provide guidance on how government can achieve a transformed ECD sector, the department has established an ECD think tank, comprising a group of experts from government, academia, NGOs and civil society.
