Nigerian Army on Saturday said the fresh threat issued by released Boko Haram members in a video clip distributed by the group is just a propaganda and should be ignored. A statement by Army spokesman Brigadier General Sani Usan said the attention of Nigerian Army has been drawn to the threat by one of the released Boko Haram terrorists in exchange for the abducted Chibok school girls. He said: “in the first clip the terrorist, among other things, made boastful and spurious allegations, while the second clip was about alleged indoctrination of some of the abducted Chibok school girls in captivity. “We wish to state that the terrorist has lost touch with current realities. It was aimed at seeking relevance and attention. “As you are all aware, he was a direct beneficiary of the process that led to the release of........http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2017/05/boko-haram-nigerian-army-reacts-to.html

This kind of cruelty a women visited on children under her is quite disheartening, to say the least. The three children pictured above were rescued, after they were reportedly locked up in a room by their step-mother to starve to death. It is alleged that this occurred after the children's dad, who married her, traveled out of the state. It was gathered that the children regained their freedom, after some neighbours who got to know about the incident rescued them from their step-mother....http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2017/05/lady-locks-up-step-children-in-room-to.html

I am reading in shame the disgraceful act of some indigent Ijaw youths in Biagbolo, Bayelsa against innocent traders of Igbo extraction under the guise of avenging the death of 17-year-old Faith Omosovu Pius, who was murdered by a certain “Tochukwu” suspected to be of Igbo extraction. While I’m concerned about the gruesome murder of Faith and the calamity it has brought on the people of Biagbolo, the family of the deceased and the entire Ijaw nation, I can’t help but condemn the irresponsible and barbaric actions of some youths in the community in reaction to the sad incident. Firstly, the youths must understand that even in animal kingdom the action of a an animal cannot be said to be that of the entire group except they assent to it. So why should responsible and law abiding traders be meant to pay for the sin of a particular individual? Why should we take action that even animals will frown at? We are meant to be above every animal, so why should we do what they despise? What concerns the Igbo businessman in his shop with the action of Tochukwu? Secondly, our people in Bayelsa must realise that any society that does not make herself to be conducive and accommodating to visitors and investors is bound to the ruins. Even the greatest economies in the world open their doors to people with http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2017/05/attack-on-igbos-in-bayelsa-is-highly.html

The Minister of State for Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, has revealed the amount President Muhamamdu Buhari, others, spend yearly on foreign medical trip. He noted that by conservative estimates, Buhari and other Nigerians going outside the country for medical care, cost the country about $1 billion, annually. Ehanire’s revelation is coming at a time when President Muhammadu Buhari just left the country on another medical vacation, to London. Since coming to office two years ago, the President had embarked on several medical trips abroad, including seeking medical attention for an ear infection outside the country. Before embarking on his f0llow-up medical trip to London, on Sunday, Buhari had spent 49 days in the United Kingdom for medical treatments. The Federal Government has however, refused to disclose the nature of his ailment, as well as the actual amount of money that has gone into his treatments. At least six Nigerian soldiers have been killed in new military campaign against militants in the country’s restive Niger Delta oil hub, security officials said on Friday. The southern swampland has been largely quiet since the start of the year because militants halted attacks against oil pipelines to give the government a chance to conduct peace talks. But in a new confrontation, army and security forces moved on Sunday into the Ajakpa community in Ondo state, a region west of the Niger Delta, to hunt down militants involved in oil theft and kidnapping. At least six soldiers were killed, as was the leader of a gang that had used the area as base to stage operations inside the Delta, military officials told a news conference in the oil town of Yenagoa. The operation has not yet finished. “Following that successful operation, our troops carried out a raid operation to clear remnants of miscreants, militant camps, shrines and hideouts,” a military statement said. THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has denied the allegation by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, on Wednesday that there were plots by the Commission to set him up by planting monies and guns in his Enugu residence. Ekweremadu said that he was tipped off about the purported plot by an “EFCC covert investigative journalist” privy to the design. He said the agency had secured a warrant and plans to storm his home on May 6, 2017 under the guise that it was working on information provided by a whistle blower regarding huge amount of money in the apartment. He said going by the script of the plot, he is to be arrested, detained for three weeks and charged to court, while his constituents would be mobilized to protest and seek his recall from the National Assembly. But the EFCC said there was no truth in the allegation. It said in a statement: “The Commission wishes to state in very strong terms that it is not aware of any plot to set up Ekweremadu for any arrest. If any agency is plotting to plant monies and guns in Ekweremadu’s residence, it is certainly not the EFCC as such antics are alien to the Commission. “Nevertheless, the Commission is worried by the alarm and the fact that the highly-regarded Deputy President of the Nigerian senate would go public with such unverified information without first double-checking with the Commission. This is not only very strange but smacks of a scripted propaganda campaign to distract the Commission by putting it on the defensive. “It must be emphatically stated for the benefit of Senator Ekweremadu and others who share similar misconception and jaundiced views of the EFCC, that the Commission does not need any grand plot to arrest and prosecute him if he is found to have violated any law that EFCC enforces. He does not belong in the category of public officers that enjoy immunity from arrest and prosecution by law enforcement agencies. “Once again, the alleged plot by EFCC to raid Senator Ekweremadu’s house on May 6 2017, exists only in the very fertile imagination of the Distinguished Deputy Senate President’s questionable ‘source’, whom he claims is ‘close to the EFCC’. “The Commission’s candid advice to http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2017/05/breaking-efcc-to-ekweremadu-well-arrest.html |

Article by Nira Adedokun is a writer, public relations practitioner, lawyer and journalist. – Twitter: @niranadedokun When you hear Nigerians, who tend towards pietism speak about the ongoing Big Brother Naija reality show, you would imagine that the casual debauchery engaged in by the youngsters on the show was the most depravity that could be told about Nigeria. But that is far from the truth. Here is a country with loads of stories about baby-making centres where teenage girls are conscripted into random copulation with men and delivered of babies, who are mostly sold to ritualists or sometimes handed over to childless couples for a fee. It is a country where the recurrence of bloodletting literarily bears the seal of the state, where agents of the state turn equipment of war on harmless citizens for exercising their constitutionally guaranteed right to associate, where citizens lord it over other citizens, rampaging and ravaging without repercussion. A country raped into submission to hunger, disease and despair by successive leadership which, ironically, sometimes joins the self-righteous denunciation of indulgences that television programming like the BBN offers. The argument is usually about the hedonistic nature of the show. People complain that nudity and free for all sexual tendencies of the youths are alien to our culture.
