let the distance btw the object and image represent u and v
the U +(-V )=27 (virtual image are always negative)

U=27+V..........(1)

magnification =V/U

= 4=V/27+V(remember U=27+V)
V=-36cm.
but the image has magnification of 4 ie 4 times the object distance.

U= 36/4=9cm

using mirror formula

1/f = 1/U+1/V
1/f =1/9+1/-36(virtual image)

f=36/3=12cm.
