The "Standard" way to fail Anatomy is to be a "Good Student."
You go to every lecture. You buy the heavy textbooks. You try to memorize every branch of the External Carotid Artery like a robot. And then the exam comes. The lecturer asks one "clinical correlation" about a nerve you thought was minor, and suddenly, you're staring at the ceiling for 40 minutes while your classmates’ pens are flying.
I was the "Good Student" until I almost crashed out. I realized Anatomy isn't a list of facts... it’s a Battlefield. The nerves have personalities, the muscles are soldiers, and the arteries are supply lines. If you don't know the story, you’re just memorizing noise.
I stopped reading "textbooks." I started writing The Secret Protocols. I turned 400 pages of Upper Limb and Thorax into 15 pages of High-Stakes Drama. I stopped "memorizing" the Brachial Plexus and started seeing the Electrical Grid. I stopped "cramming" the Cranial Nerves and started using the 1973 Secret Code. I found the "Kill Shot" angles that UNTH and Nigerian examiners use to weed out the weak.
I’m not a genius. I just found the map. My "Battle Notes" are for the student who is tired of crying over Gray’s. They are for the person who wants to sit in that exam hall and smile because they already know exactly what the examiner is trying to hide. I’m letting those who have been asking in on this "cheat code" only for a while. For the price of a single meatpie and a drink (₦2,000), you can have the map.
Don't study harder. Fight back. |

MedAnon: Save this thread.
I will drop Lower Limb, Abdomen & Pelvis, and Head & Neck summaries in the coming days the same way.
Just sharing what worked for a lot of us. If you find it useful, you might as well share the thread so others can see.
Good luck with your reading. As promised, here are some pages of the LOWER LIMB REVISION NOTE that helped a lot of us move from the 30s–40s range to 75+ in this region.

Good day house, Since I dropped the thread “I struggled with Anatomy till I cracked this code”, a lot of you have been asking for the actual summaries I used when I changed my reading style. Many people liked the approach I explained there, so I’m dropping the first one today. This is a sneak peek from my full Anatomy jotter (as I cannot post everything on here) which I carried everywhere in the last weeks before the exam. Nothing extra, just what repeatedly comes out.

Dalohad: I wish I read Anatomy the way you did while in school. I saw those who passed Anatomy with high scores as Super geniuses.
The course was so abstract, I knew if I didn't tackle it heado on, I was in trouble. I also knew it impossible to read Grey's Anatomy and memorize.
What did I do? I looked for past questions for the past 5 years, zeroed in on the 10 most frequent theory questions and studied them..
I drew the structure of the most frequent question the lecturers loved- 'The Branchial plexus', and some of the important structures that refused to stick to my head.
I pasted the pictures on the wall of my bedside and memorised them first thing in the morning.
Branchial plexus, Femoral triangle, innervations, arteries, gluteus maximus muscle, the Patella.
I had them on my wall. My bedside wall looked like a 20th century surgeon's office and my room mates always had a good laugh seeing me struggle to memorise the pictures while loudly talking to myself, every morning.
Everyone in the room finally learnt a thing or two about about Anatomy even though most were not medical students.
They were the first to check my Anatomy result and came back to the room to celebrate with me when I passed the course.
Whenever I look back, I have a good laugh. Life is funny. Memories..
With Anatomy, I learnt one thing in life, if you fear anything in life, face it head. It will break under your pressure. That was a very smart move you pulled. Kudos👏 |

Many Nigerian Parents be like: “I want my daughter to become a Doctor because Iya risika’s daughter is a Doctor” ? That's a risky path to thread if you eventually bend to your parents' will |

MightySparrow: Congratulations. My uncle and friends wanted me to read medicine. I chose engineering. In Unilorin those days, I had opportunity to live with four medical students. I thanked my star for following my mind. They were always carrying one Gray Anatomy, Cunningham and some headache giving books like that. I loved my Holy Differential Equations and drawings.
Then, my daughter came to tell me she wanted medicine. I could have discouraged her but she took it as a matter of life and death. I pitied her. Then she jammed the crazy course, Anatomy! Twenty - four hours was not enough to read! She would be soliloquizing around the house. Atimes, she would be looking for somebody to talk to about a subject nobody cared to hear to make sure she remembered accurately what was read. I pitied her.
Then the MB results came out, fear gripped her, the whole family was panicking. I pitied her again, she is a brilliant student, but in medical school, it seems nobody is absolutely sure of themselves.
She made it, then.......
The other siblings hate anything medicine and their anatomy, physiology, pathology, biochemistry and other crazy co(u)ses , they gather together.
I still don't like anything medicine, medical, headache.
Anyways, congratulations to you.
The only anatomy I live is seeing, saki, edo, abodi, ẹdọ furu, inu ẹran with chill drink. For human butchers .......carry your headache outta here. Lol.
!D Wishing you the best in life Wow, your story just hits different! I can totally relate.. medicine is a different kind of headache, and anatomy alone can make even the brightest minds question their sanity. Respect to your daughter though, that kind of dedication is rare. And I feel you.. sometimes it’s easier to stick to equations and drawings than to Gray’s Anatomy or Cunningham. Lol. Thanks for the wishes, really appreciate it🙏 |

Kaczynski: these days a lots of students cram lots of things just to pass exam forgetting that courses like med surg , engineering are more of practice than theory.
my gf is currently doing her residency( neurology) i used to marvel how she make time for everything because in her department their professors are so strict , any slightly thing them fit nack person D or worse F. My banny day carry first for class and for other room. They say girls that grew up with strict family are the sweetest. Lol your girlfriend dey try o. Neurology no be beans. That kind discipline dey show both for school and for life. Cramming can pass exam, but understanding is what saves you when real-life problems presents itself. |

BeardedMeat: When I working as a front desk officer in a bank within a school environment, I saw first hand what some medical students go through. They come to the bank burnt out and murmuring about what they go through in med school. Some blame their parents for goading them into med school against their wish.
The most painful part to me is the poor remuneration after all the toiling to be a doctor. True. The stress is heavy and the pay doesn’t always match the sacrifice. But that’s exactly why students need better guidance, smarter study systems, and clarity before choosing medicine. We cannot be suffering and also be confused on top of it. |
Education › Re: The Honest Advice I’ll Give To Anyone Looking To Get Into MBBS by MedAnon(op): 10:44am On Dec 02, 2025 |
matify83: Might have been true that the study of medicine was fraught with medical textbooks so large that just one can dwarf the whole textbooks of some specialties. However, with the advent of the Internet, AI, soft copies of most textbooks, that assertion should be archived in the dustbin of history except you still want to remain analogue in this digital era.
Having a good orientation and scope of the requirements to study medicine would go a long way in mitigating the casualties recorded during the exams. For example, while some students have flare for a broader knowledge of any subject matter, some medical exams in the undergraduate level are notebook based hence helping those who limit their study to their notes to excel more than the well rounded efficos.
One sorry and pathetic plight that transcends medical school into a doctor's work life is poor remuneration. After all the toils in school, a doctor can hardly cope with the economic reality s/he's confronted with. While his 4 year course pairs are already established and earning fantastic salaries outside, he is saddled with a house job that is as exhausting as it is tasking and the little subcutaneous fat he manages to escape with from school is lost in his /her 1st posting as a house officer.
MBBS is fulfilling to the altruistic but the reward may very well be found in heaven like those of the teachers. ( That is, if you make the heaven). Thanks for sharing this perspective. The field is definitely evolving, and those who combine the traditional methods with digital tools are already having an easier time. At the end of the day, the system may not be perfect, but developing the right strategy early can prevent many of the “casualties” you mentioned. |
