dayokanu:seriously, I tire for you. You are an incorrigible Arsenal hater |
If you are to use European trophies as a metric, eventhough I think its inappropriate, it should be only champions league. UEFA Cup is not competitive, anybody can win it. Shakthar and Zenith St.Petersburg won the UEFA Cup and could not go beyond the group phase of the champions league the following season. Sevilla won it back to back and couldn't go beyond the first knockout round. In recent times, it's only Porto that has won it and gone on to win the champions league. Arsenal have only participated in it twice under Wenger and have played in the final once. If Arsenal were consistent players in the UEFA cup, they would have won it for keeps |

My bad. I didn't know Eriksson's CV is this impressive. I guess he has failed so much that you will never have imagined that he is rather a successful coach. But why then the hiatus in his success in recent times? Wenger too has an impressive CV. He won the league and cup with Monaco and was also a runner-up in the UEFA CWC with Monaco in 91. He spent one season with Nagoya Grampus in Japan and won the cup and super-cup. In Arsenal, he was won three league titles, three cups and two super-cups. One runner-up in the UEFA Cup and another in the Champions League and other numerous runner-up in the league, cup and super cup. He won a double after just his first season with Arsenal. He has won almost everything there is to win except the Carling cup and a continental title and you cannot use the fact that he hasn't won anything on the continent to denigrate everything else he has achieved. |

dayokanu:Eriksson did not coach Mexico to SA 2010. Javier Aguirre, I think coached them to the last WC where they reached the 2nd round. Mexico were on the brink of not qualifying for the WC so they sacked Eriksson. Wenger that has won a trophy with every club he has coached(except one) is a bad coach while Eriksson that has succeeded only at Lazio(and maybe in the irrelevant Swedish league) is a good coach? What wisdom?? |
This game has draw written in bold all over it. Mark Hughes has transformed Fulham into draw masters, a team that can grind out result on any ground. Since he took over, Fulham have only lost twice, one was a very controversial defeat to Spurs. Chelsea are on the back of a defeat and will do everything to maintain their stay on top of the league but in the end, I think Fulham will do just enough to walk away with a point |
I dont think Johnson will start and frankly, I think his days as first choice right back for Liverpool are numbered following the steady performances of Kelly. This looks to as a draw or a narrow Liverpool win. Wigan come into this game on the back of two straight defeats and so I expect them to give a very spirited fight. Liverpool on the other hand continued their renaissance with a win against Chelsea and will be aiming for nothing but the three points at stake. I expect a feisty encounter that would yield a draw or a narrow Liverpool win |

ogazi007:Yes O! We are winners. Tonight's game is nothing but a formality. Our youngsters should be able to take care of business |
Madrid are on the brink of elimination from the King's Cup, hehehe. . . I pray Murcia wins. Alcocorn did it last year, Murcia, you can do it. Go Murcia |
furacao:Not all Basques though. I dont think Xabi Alonso will ever go back to play for Bilbao or Sociedad |
Arsenal will win but they'll struggle. Wolves did well against United until the dying seconds of the game when they conceded that goal. They are exciting going forward- Milijas, Hunt and Jarvis bring in a lot guile and are quite creative. There is also Kevin Doyle who if he comes to the party, would be a handful for the Arsenal defence. There's also Ebanks Blake that can come in from the bench and do the damage. I think this promises to be an exciting game. Arsenal wins 1-0 |

Shooting Stars two-goal hero on the opening day of the new Nigeria Premier League season, Gbolahan Salami, has found himself in hot water over his goal celebration against former club Sunshine Stars. According to the Nigeria Premier League (NPL), the forward has been banned for as many two matches after he blasted his former coach at Sunshine Stars while celebrating one of his goals last weekend. Officials have informed MTNFootball.com that Salami, who was booked after he celebrated his equaliser against his former club on Sunday by raining abuse on his former coach, could now be in for a stiffer punishment. A source close to the Nigeria ‘B’ international forward told MTNFootball.com let rip at the Sunshine Stars coach for giving him a torrid time while he was at the Akure club last season. “Salami said the coach does not like the progress of players and really worked against these players especially when he took over Sunshine Stars,” a source disclosed. “So, when he scored he raced to the touchline to tell the coach how exactly he feels about him.” Salami gave Shooting Stars the maximum points against star-studded Sunshine when he drew his side level with a 44th minute strike, before he tucked away a last-gasp penalty after he was fouled inside the box on his way to goal. http://africanfootball.mtnfootball.com/live/content.php?Item_ID=35823

Gbolahan Salami, eleven others make team of the week Shooting Stars of Ibadan’s forward Gbolahan Salami has shot his way into the Nigerian Premier League’s inaugural Team of the Week for the 2010/2011 season following his goal heroics in his side’s 2-1 win over Sunshine Stars last Sunday. Salami, who previously played for the Akure-based Sunshine Stars before moving at the start of the season to neighbouring Ibadan to team up with the Oluyole Warriors, grabbed both of his side’s goals, including an added time penalty, in the match played at the Liberty Stadium. The Super Eagles fringe player wasn’t the only outstanding performer to be rewarded for his display in the opening weekend of the new league season, which produced 18 goals. Dolphins goalkeeper, Sunday Rotimi, stood out with a succession of crucial interventions to help his team hold out for a crucial 1-0 win against Plateau United in Jos. The former Super Eagles invitee narrowly edged out former junior international Olufemi Thomas of Ocean Boys who singlehandedly limited Enyimba to just one goal in their 1-0 loss in Aba. With a traditional 4-4-2 formation in mind, the backline of the NPL’s Team of the Week consists of the quartet of Kano Pillars’ Muhammed Alhaji, Plateau United’s Ajibade Omolade, Monday Osagie of Kwara United and Thank god Ike of Warri Wolves. The midfield is made up of defensive midfielder Emmanuel Omodiagbe, who bagged the winner for Warri Wolves in their win over Kwara United; Kingsley Odoh, who grabbed a brace, although his Lobi Stars still went down 3-2 to Rangers in Enugu; Gombe United’s Rafiu Salaudeen, as well as Rangers’ goal scoring winger Ejike Uzoenyi. Upfront, alongside Salami, is Kano Pillars’ Rabiu Ali, whose wicked half volley set the league runners-up on their way to a valuable away point at Kaduna United. The coach of the week is Dolphins’ Stanley Eguma, who masterminded the weekend’s only away win. http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5640470-146/gbolahan_salami_eleven_others_make_team.csp |

Your standard of measuring how good coaches are based on the number of continental trophies they have won is greatly flawed; inane. Eriksson has failed everywhere else he has been at after Lazio- England, Mexico, City, Notts County despite winning the UEFA Cup and Super cup with Lazio. Going by your standards, Wenger has won silver in the UEFA Cup and Champions League, shouldn't that count for something? |
