Minister of Health Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu said yesterday that the Federal Government was set to receive Nano Silver trial drug for the treatment of Ebola Virus. The drug which is used experimentally for many things, was introduced by a Nigerian scientist. It will get to Lagos this morning, he added. Nano Silver 10ppm has been shown by the United States Defence Department research to effectively inactivate/neutralise the Ebola virus. It is said to be identical to the silver used in the research. Liberian officials faced an excruciating choice yesterday: deciding which handful of Ebola patients will receive an experimental drug that could prove life-saving, ineffective or even harmful. ZMapp, the untested Ebola drug, arrived in the West African country late Wednesday. Assistant Health Minister Tolbert Nyenswah said three or four people would begin getting it yesterday. The government had previously said two doctors would receive the treatment, but it was unclear who else would. These are the last known doses of ZMapp left in the world. Police have arrested a 20-year-old man, Chukwuma (surname withheld), who allegedly specialised in killing women and having sex with their dead bodies in Ebonyi State. The suspect allegedly killed three women along farm pathways in the area and had sex with them. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Chris Anyanwu, who confirmed the incident, said the suspect was arrested after the police set him up with a girl along a farm pathway and he came out to strangle the girl to death. The procedures which include the administration of the Holy Communion on the palm of the faithful as against placing it on the tongue of the recipient, was announced by Rev. Fr. Moses Jimbili, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Nyanya. Jimbili told parishioners at the church that the measure was a directive by the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, His Eminence, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, as check on the spread of Ebola disease.
