Please can someone recommend a good volkswagen mechanic that can fix my 94 1.8 vento for me.I have been inspired by Siena and Gtide not to give up on my" alake".
I bought the car in September 2011,the first thing I noticed was the poor gas mileage,the next thing the water pump failed.The so called mechanic removed the thermostat and replaced the water pump and yet the car was still overheating.He adviced I change the radiator to a bigger one with double fans.The car came with a radiator with a single fan.I did that and Behold the car stopped overheating but my gas mileage is still lousy,the ac has stopped working.My missus says we should sell the car and get another one.I sold my 98 accord because of gear issues .I sold my 2000 avalon because of excessive fuel consumption,patronized different mechanics but none could offer any solutions to my car issues.I refuse to sell my alake,which guarantees do I have that the car I get won't develop a fault down the road.
I want a total overhaul of my 94 vento and get it working like its brand new.

Where can I carry out the scan?

Siena: Removing the CAT may not be the cause of your higher than normal gas consumption. Something else may be wrong. Have you had an OBD scan carried out yet?

Its a 1993 model.I doubt if an OBD scan can be carried out.Or are 1993 VW OBD compliant?
