Lagos was Built by the BRITISH. In case you all forget, Nigeria was Created by the British and Lagos was designated as the capital.

The reason was Lagos is the closest sea port in Nigeria to Britain. Get out a Map and understand this. At the time of Lord Lugard and before him the main means of travel was by shipping. Get out a Map again, Lagos is the closest place in Nigeria via Ship route.

The British chose Lagos again because it already had an established shipping route thanks to the Portuguese ( Cristiano people ) and Spain and Brazil,

Lagos Had to be the capital because it was the fastest way into the country and out of the country. Areas like Ikoyi were developed as Government Areas and the rich white colonials lived in Ikoyi. Ever Wondered why Dodan Barracks was in Ikoyi ? Look at all the old names of roads in Ikoyi they all bear white names.

The modern infrastructure came to Lagos because the Whites Settled en mass in Lagos, Port Harcourt. Because of the weather they picked Jos as their Northern Domain

The Reason for Lagos Development is because the British Brought that Mindset

That's why Ogun state which is a stones throw from Lagos does not have the Lagos feel because the British did not settle there en mass

The British gave us the Lagos We have. Look at all the lack of planning in Ogun State and look at all the planning in Ikoyi, Apapa, Ebutte Meta, Ikeja
