https://dailypost.ng/2024/09/15/olusola-omoju-can-the-black-madonna-save-nigeria/ The more I see the world, the more I fall in love with my dear country. No matter how sick Nigeria seems to be, I am beginning to think that it is the best country in the world. She only needs to get a few things right to be on top of the world. I was so worried about Nigeria that I had to go to a prayer mountain in far away Barcelona, Spain to seek the face of God for intervention in Nigeria. If you ask average Nigerians what they know about Barcelona, they will only remember Messi and Camp Nou. However, there is a popular deity that was believed to have saved Spain a couple times from tribulations. She sits on a mountain close to Barcelona, they call her the BLACK MADONNA!!! The Black Madonna, a romanesque polychrome carving, was believed to have been carved in Jerusalem around the 12th century. It is one of the most famous Black Madonna statues in the world, and in 1844 Pope Leo XIII declared the Virgin of Montserrat, the patroness of Catalonia. It was believed that she saved the monastery from the Swedish invasion and siege of 1655. She was also credited with defeating a Russian attack in 1920. You won’t therefore blame me that I went to plead with the lady to save NIGERIA from our numerous predicaments. Maybe my upbringing is affecting me. When I was in secondary school, pastors and churches were respected and revered unlike today. I remember the first time I went to an interdenominational prayer mountain for a weekly friday night vigil. They call that mountain Ori oke, BASIRIBASIRI (The mountain where God covers our shameful secrets) located in Akure where I grew up. As a secondary school boy, all my prayers were dutifully answered on that mountain and I started believing that God answers prayers on the mountain more than the plain. I was attending a public secondary school until my JSS3. I so much desired to go to one of the unity schools which were the standard schools of those days. I prayed that Friday night that God should miraculously send me to a unity school. I came home the following morning ( saturday) and I was sleeping due to the previous night vigil when my father came to wake me up and asked if I would like to write the Unity exam that very morning. I was shocked! It happened that a man brought his two daughters from the village to write that exam and he had no place to stay except my father’s house. We would never know about the exam if that man didn’t bring his daughters to our house that fateful night. My father asked him how he got the forms for the daughters, the man said they would pay for the forms at the exam venue and he was yet to get the forms. How coincidental or was it the prayers of the night before? That was how I went for the exam without any form of preparation the very morning I pleaded with God to grant me admission to the school. I wrote the exam and forgot about it. My father never went to check the result. Someone told him in his work place one month later that he saw my name on the admission list and I came second in the whole state among over 500 applicants. Guess what? The two ladies that made me know about the exam never passed. That was the beginning of my belief in the efficacy of mountain top prayers. You will therefore appreciate my enthusiasm when I set out on a similar adventure decades later in far away Barcelona. I started my journey early in the morning from Barcelona to climb the highest summit of montserrat, the mountain that housed the monastery that housed the lady. The summit sits at 4055 feet above sea level. This time, I decided to climb the hill in a funicular. The views were so spectacular and It was indeed, an incredible experience. There is a whole lot of history behind the monastery but I will limit my discussion to my encounter with the lady I was on the queue for close to an hour, passing through an intricately sculptured but ancient basilica in awe and reverence. When I finally met our lady, I was amazed and disappointed at the same time. Is it this small statue that attracts millions of pilgrims monthly or something else? I heard a little of the many miracles attributed to an encounter with black madonna no doubt but the statue looked so ordinary that if it were located anywhere in Nigeria, all the pentecostal churches including Pastor Adeboye and Oyedepo will be daily cursing the people that visit the statue, saying it is idolatry. You can as well say she looks like YEYE OSUN of Osogbo. The funny part is that the statue is even black. Does that mean that MARY THE VIRGIN was a black woman? I guess the worshippers didn’t want to attribute anything good to blacks so they came up with an explanation. They said the statue was not originally painted black but because it was painted thousands of years ago, it turned black over time due to wear and tear. Very convenient! Let us wait and see whether MONA LISA will also turn black. I don’t believe the theory at all but how else would the Almighty Spain explain that a black woman’s statue saved them from the Russians in 1920? Anyway, I finally held the hand of our lady. I had a personal discussion with the lady. My only request to the lady…MAY PRESIDENT TINUBU ‘get it right’. May Nigeria be great again. My group later lit a candle to seal the prayer as demanded by tradition. I met thousands of people from all over the world coming to pay homage and receive blessings from our lady. Everywhere I turn all over the world, I see millions of tourists patronising places that look so ordinary and I keep wondering what is wrong with my dear Nigeria. When will tourists start queuing to see IDANRE hills? When will they come to learn the famous history of OLUA, a popular deity in my hometown who is equally attributed with a lot of miracles? When will Nigeria get it right? As I descended from the montserrat in a funicular, the only question going through my mind was …WILL THE BLACK MADONNA SAVE THE MOST POPULOUS BLACK NATION? |
https://tribuneonlineng.com/chidimma-vanessa-the-ugly-side-of-perceived-xenophobia-in-south-africa/ Our ship berths in ROME today. One of the advantages of working onboard cruise ships is the fact that we practically wake up in new countries every morning. If you are not on duty and you are not in port manning, it is your lucky day. You can join thousands of guests on an adventure of the town usually in company of other crew members who are equally not on duty. Typically, you could be exploring the town in company of Americans, Asians, Europeans, Australians and even pacific islanders, all in a single trip. It is a beautiful morning. As we settled down to eat in a restaurant overlooking the Colosseum, I could not but appreciate the rich and diverse culture displayed on the table. We had a white South African, two black South Africans, one Thai, two Filipinos, one Scottish, one Indian, one Malay and my humble self, a Naija boy, all settled to appreciate the best cuisine Rome had to offer before we scuttled back to the ship for ‘all onboard’ in less than three hours. One habit we don’t encourage on cruise ships is browsing through the phone on the dining table. It is disrespectful of others and won’t encourage conversations as well as team bonding when you are busy with your phone. We meet people, hear about other cultures and make lifelong friends at dinner so your phone must not stand in the way. I broke the rule. A quick glance atmy twitter feed revealed that Chidimma, the Miss South African hopeful of Nigerian/Mozambican origin has finally withdrawn her participation from the beauty pageant. This generated a friendly conversation with my South African friends on the table. Expectedly, the white south African cared less. Repeatedly, my South African friends kept telling me that I won’t appreciate the level of decadence Nigerians brought to their country. They stated that Nigerians introduced drugs to their youths and would bribe their Police to look away. They said they are not against hard working Nigerians thriving and contributing meaningfully to their country. Unfortunately, the case of Chidimma does not support the hypothesis that they are not against hard working Nigerians even when they have genuine reasons for some of their agitations. Ad Chidimma is someone you would classify as hard-working South African of Nigerian origin. Her only crime till they started investigating her was contesting against other South Africans that had no Nigerian blood in them. If Chidimma had no Nigerian blood, she would not be investigated so she is neither a criminal nor lazy. Therefore, it is safe to conclude she was persecuted based on her roots. If it is true her mum, a Mozambican stole the identity of someone to register her birth, she should be punished as that is criminal. However, the very reason why they started fishing for evidence to disqualify her is her Nigerian blood and that is the basis for my submission. You started calling for her disqualification first because she is of Nigerian origin and went ahead to fish for evidence to nail her and label her family criminals. Therefore, her major sin is her Nigerian origin and if I must spell it correctly, that is clearly XENOPHOBIA. Surprisingly, her mum who is alleged to steal an identity to register her birth is Mozambican, but Nigerians are getting called criminals instead because Chidimma’s dad is Nigerian. Mozambicans have been relatively spared the barrage of insults that followed suit. Chidimma can’t be absolved from all blame too. If you are contesting for Miss South Africa, you can’t surround yourself with only your Nigerian family and displayed Nigerian and Mozambican flags on your Instagram page at the detriment of the country you want to represent. There issomething called patriotism, many Nigerians don’t understand that. We disparage our country at the slightest provocation. We have made JAPA another blossoming career so citizens of other countries can’t understand why we abandon our country and call it all sorts of bad names at the slightest opportunity. Therefore, it may seem strange to Nigerians that South Africans are jealously protecting their national pride by insisting that someone that truly represents the rich culture of their country and appreciates it should be given the mantle to raise their national flag as Miss South Africa. We need a more united Africa. However, if there is something I learnt by working among over one hundred nationalities worldwide, I learnt never to appear to be the wisest in the room. Nigerians should stop this delusion of grandeur that they are the smartest in Africa, that other African women are dying to date them, that South South Africans are lazy etc. If you are that smart, your country won’t be so challenged that the best way out for many Nigerian youths is JAPA. Creating an impression that you are wiser than others will make enemies for you and put you in the spotlight. I wish Chidimma an opportunity greater than what she missed by this unfortunate incident. |
OyoTunjiUSA:This person even got ten years when Nigeria was still getting two years. You are so ignorant but don't even know. Very rude, ignorant fellow. I won't do the research for you. It is your business to believe whatever ignorant lies you keep peddling as information all over the thread.
|
OyoTunjiUSA:You belong in Kindergarten |
OyoTunjiUSA:I stopped responding to you because you were asking irrelevant questions to prove you are right. I told you with your Canadian PR on any passport, you can get 10 year B1B2 regardless of your nationality. That doesn't mean the Consular can't decide to give you less but it is a well known fact, like the original poster has confirmed that you get 10yr validity with PR. I don't argue about something I've seen personally on a faceless forum. I will just let you be. That's why I stopped responding to your troll. |
OyoTunjiUSA:How does detonating a explosive relates to the B1B2 application of the person you are talking about? What is the meaning of all these questions? To prove what? Anyway, even if you are caught detonating a bomb or molesting a minor, you don't automatically lose your status. After your criminal conviction, an immigration court will still have to sit on your PR before it can be revoked. And this has nothing to do with the lady. She is just trying to visit her boyfriend. She has been in UK so the immigration officer is aware she just immigrated as a PR but she has been living in a western country prior to that so her chances of violating her visa status and jeopardising her Canadian PR is slim . She was earlier established in a western country so she will be granted the visa all things being equal. Canadian PR holders are entitled to 10yr B1B2 regardless of nationalities ( unless the Consular uses discretion to reduce it) |
OyoTunjiUSA:Canada dont revoke PR. You only need to spend 2years out of the last five years in Canada. Even if you didn't spend up to that before your card expires and you are already in Canada, You are still a PR. You will just make sure you spend more time.to complete two years out of last five years before you apply for renewal. As it were, she can even stay away for one year, nobody cares . As per her B1B2, she is good to go. She spent 3years in UK already and now a Canadian PR, she has a very good chance and will most likely be approved. She will get 10 years validity so go for it. |
Chinkoalhaji34:This another opportunity for anyone willing to Japa. Just torch one car, get arrested, let Obidients make noise over twitter with your name. Get bail and travel to Ghana to claim asylum. ( Hundeyin 101 course). |
In first remarks on death toll, Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan confirmed on Sunday that at least 147 people were killed during recent violence triggered by student protests over government job quotas. Speaking to reporters in Dhaka, Asaduzzaman Khan said the deceased include students, police, activists, and people from various professions, adding that further investigation is underway to determine the total death toll. Independent estimates put the toll at more than 200. Earlier in the day, the government restored mobile internet services after 10 days of blackout. Junior Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak said the services would resume at 3 p.m. local time (0900 GMT). He said that since customers were not able to use the packages they had paid for, users will get a 5 GB data bonus for three days. Social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube, however, still remain restricted. The government had shut mobile internet on July 17 and broadband service on July 18 amid escalating violence during the protests. Broadband internet resumed on July 23, and a curfew imposed to handle the law and order situation has started to relax. Schools and other educational institutions remain closed. Clashes started on July 15 between the police and student protesters demanding an end to a quota that reserved 30% of government jobs for relatives of veterans who fought in the 1971 war of independence. In the wake of the chaos, the Supreme Court ordered the government to scale back job quotas. The 30% quota for veterans’ descendants was cut to 5%, and quota for ethnic minorities, transgender people and disabled people was limited to 2%. Extensive raids Amid escalating protests, clashes, and acts of vandalism related to the quota reform movement, law enforcement agencies across Bangladesh have launched a series of extensive raids, causing widespread apprehension among the population. In Dhaka, law enforcers have adopted a strategic approach, dividing the city into designated zones for targeted operations. Sources involved in the raids have told Anadolu that the tactic involves encircling a targeted area with hundreds of law enforcement personnel, effectively sealing all exits to prevent any suspects from escaping. The operation, referred to as a "block raid," involves the systematic search of homes based on intelligence information to apprehend individuals suspected of involvement in the unrest. https://www.aa.com.tr/en/asia-pacific/147-people-killed-in-bangladesh-student-protests-minister-confirms/3287531#:~:text=July%2024%2C%202024.-,DHAKA%2C%20Bangladesh,protests%20over%20government%20job%20quotas NB- Online warriors, come abuse me again, food don land. |
Lezzlie:Make I go check my account fast fast maybe money don land o. You guys are so delusional and primitive. See the link below where147 people were recently killed in Bangalsesh during protest ( Same Bangladesh Peter obi told us to emulate), reasonable Nigerians are protecting your lives by telling you to be peaceful if you want to protest and you say they paid. @Seun, abeg they said you don collect money for this post. Na me post am o make una give me my percentage abeg. https://www.aa.com.tr/en/asia-pacific/147-people-killed-in-bangladesh-student-protests-minister-confirms/3287531#:~:text=July%2024%2C%202024.-,DHAKA%2C%20Bangladesh,protests%20over%20government%20job%20quotas |

LONDON, July 18 (Reuters) - Five climate activists from the Just Stop Oil protest group were each jailed for at least four years on Thursday over a conspiracy to block London's M25 motorway, marking the longest sentences ever imposed for a non-violent protest in Britain.https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/five-uk-climate-protesters-jailed-conspiracy-block-major-road-2024-07-18/

Heenarhmoj:It doesn't matter that you just moved two months ago. You have a PR which is a strong tie to canada. With your Canadian PR, you should get a 10year B1/B2 even with your Nigerian passport. Working from home is not unusual in the western world, that shouldn't pose a barrier. By and large, go for it |
Applied on 11th in Lagos. DHL brought the passport today. I saw a pink paper first with a white paper stating that the visa application has been forwarded to Turkey and i would be contacted when they get a response. I thought no visa was inside. Lo and behold, I opened the passport and they also sticked a three months visa on it. Going on an official trip though but the trip is super important to me so I am relieved. |

Ewedegubbler:Maybe the reason why Igbos are agitated about it is because they think that drug is their family business. They don't want to be outplayed by Tinubu. Don't worry, Igbo has no rivalry in drug trade worldwide. It is your birthright |
Mentorme:Because their forefather, Azikwe knew they would be a pariah nation. He inserted the criminal clause in our constitution that no region can seceede. That man has done the rest of us a lot of disservice. Our passport became useless due to their criminal activities all over the world. To undo the evil their forefather inserted in our constitution, they should ask their senators and Reps to move a motion for removal of that clause so we can be free of their bondage |
DeepsightX:Lies. Ask yourself this question...When the price of cement was 10 naira in the 80s, why didn't your father build a mansion ? Why were they still using mud houses? If you are above forty, you were in Nigeria in 1987 thereabout when teachers were not paid salaries for up to a year. Both my parents were teachers. We were the first to use telephone in the whole street..We were the first to buy VHS in.the whole area yet, we could no longer afford three square meal. When I finished secondary school, pounds was 18 naira. I got admission to canada. When I saw the school fees, I laughed like hyena because I knew there was nowhere my parent would get that money.Today, every idiot is in Canada and America studying for masters..Where is the money coming from? Why do you think the wife of Babangida started BETTER LIFE FOR WOMEN? Why do you think the wife of Abacha started FAMILY SUPPORT PROGRAM? Nigerians have always been poor. Things are more expensive now doesn't mean people could afford it when it was cheap. Stop projecting everything as evil over your land..No one is saying things are not expensive. Nevertheless, it has been worse than this in time past . We only hope it will get better |
Whobedatte:You have probably been so poor for majority of your forty years existence if you have never encountered people asking you to pay for them in superstores or expressly asking you for money around superstores. I have been doing this for over 20 years, long before the day of Shoprite. Coincidentally, I've been asked for similar donation around the world....in more than five countries at least. You gave someone change for tomato paste and you quickly jumped to nairaland at the age of forty to use that as a yardstick for hardship ? . Bro, you are a classical definition of a fool at forty |
MEGAWATCH:You want him to be fighting for you at 90? He fought for your grandfather when they foolishly declared Biafra and were being slaughtered like rams, he fought for your father against the military, he even fought for you against Obj and GEJ. By the way, what is your father doing? Why can't your father take the baton if Wole Soyinka is no longer fighting? You want him to serve three generations without rest? |

Melagros:2027 will give you guys a real score card of the hatred you are spewing against Yoruba race. No single YORUBA MAN OR WOMAN has ever won any election.anywhere in Igboland. We have many Igbo people who have won elections in Yoruba land yet you keep shouting that you are not allowed to vote yet PETER OBI WON IN LAGOS. We will correct the error in 2027 . The way Peter obi will.be defeated next election, even the obidients will.advise him never to contest again. If you guys are not mad,you should be ashamed of yourself. Obi did not congratulate the winner till date while it took the loser In UK only few minutes to accept defeat and congratulate the winner. That is real democracy. You guys want them to declare the person that came 3rd the winner. Is that not madness?. |
. |
Bobloco:It doesn't matter. It is no longer a matter of preference. It is a matter of "Who won". You want INEC to declare the person you prefer even though he came third . If you don't know this Is madness, your problem is even worse. Obi's own is better...he quickly realised he got his advice from a mad man. You don't even know you are displaying signs of psychiatric illness if you keep shouting that someone that came third should have been installed because he is your preference. |
