PoliticsEkiti Has Lowest Crime Rate In Nigeria- Police by metro2(op): 8:10pm On Jun 01, 2017
The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of Southwest Zone, Mr Foluso Adebanjo, has rated Ekiti as having the lowest crime rate in the country.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the DIG spoke in Ado Ekiti on Thursday during a working visit.

“The crime rate in Ekiti is very low, in fact, the lowest in the country. The police anywhere in the world can’t do it alone without the cooperation and consent of the people.

“You need to work with critical stakeholders to achieve a crime-free society

“The Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, is committed to the task of giving our men incentives.

“Before now, Inspectors used to spend over 14 years before becoming Superintendent of Police, but such has been corrected.

“Apart from promotion, we are working on the housing scheme for our men to be able to own a house after retirement.

“We are also improving on the medicals so that our men who sustained injuries in the course of performing their tasks can get the best treatment and many other incentives.

“Let us do this job conscientiously. Don’t be labelled corrupt officers, this is not good for the image of the force locally and globally.

“Do this job very well and you will not regret it because you are doing God’s job and your reward shall surely come,’’ he said.

Adebanjo added that the proposal for the recruitment of 30,000 policemen annually would take care of the shortfall in the personnel in some states, including Ekiti.

“As we speak now, 10,000 people are undergoing training and the proposal is that 30,000 will be trained yearly for the next 10 years.

So, we have a work plan and we must not allow a few criminals to destroy the beautiful name and respect Nigeria commands globally,’’ he said.

Earlier in his address of welcome, the state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abdulahi Chafe, said the command would continue to ensure synergy with other sister agencies to make Ekiti crime-free.

EducationJAMB Releases 1.6million UTME Results Out Of 1.7million by metro2(op): 8:12pm On May 31, 2017
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released 1,606,901 results out of the 1,718, 425 that registered in the just concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The JAMB registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, said this at a news conference in Abuja on Wednesday.

Oloyede said the results were released within 24 hours of the examination, adding that the remaining 80,889 candidates results would be released soon.

He said it was also a deliberate act by the board to withhold about 76,923 results due to some alleged malpractices in some of the Computer Based Centres (CBT) where exams were held.

“Six weeks into the registration, we harvested in preparation for the exam about 1.7 million registrations.

“But so far, we have released the results of 1,606,901 candidates leaving us with a balance of 80,889.

“Out of this 80,889, we have deliberately withheld 76,925 results for further investigation because of alleged malpractices.”

The registrar said that results would henceforth not be released immediately from 2018 unless every issues pertaining to the conduct of an examination had been thoroughly looked into which depict the international best practices.

He added that results that had not been released would be released before the commencement of admission exercise.

He also said that supplementary examination would be conducted soon for candidates who had hitches in the registration and examination processes.

Oloyede attributed some of the hitches to some CBT owners and cyber cafe operators.

“Anybody whose biometric could not be verified will be allowed to do the supplementary examination.

“As at today, 640 candidates out of 1.7million candidates did not do biometric verification, reasons being that some fraudsters registered candidates across online.

“In this case, the students are not guilty of the offence and hence will be made to write the exam again under my own very eyes.”

Oloyede highlighted some of the exam malpractices to have been initiated by parents who pay heavily to buy fake questions for their wards.

He said others include deliberate shut down and disconnection of network by some CBT owners to access questions on the computers and also exploit candidates of their fortune.

“In the course of our monitoring, JAMB had to buy question for N20,000 and also cases where CBT centres approaches our staff promising N500,000 for them to give out questions.

“These are some of the challenges we experienced in this exam,” he said.

Oloyede, however, promised to introduce electronic jammers in subsequent examination to further reduce malpractices.

He also called on public and religious institutions to avoid letting out their premises to CBT centres as this create room for fraudulent practices.

He advised candidates having issues or any form of correction to go to designated JAMB CBT centres and do so for free.

PoliticsFayose’s Aide Blasts Buhari's Aide, Ogudu by metro2(op): 7:57pm On May 31, 2017
Special Assistant to the Ekiti State Governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka has described the Presidential Adviser on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu as an unrepentant hypocrite and blackmailer, who should resolve issues with his immediate family before dabbling into matters concerning Nigeria and Ekiti State in particular.

Olayinka, who was reacting to Ojudu’s comment that the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose was disrespecting President Muhammadu Buhari whom he (Ojudu) said was old enough to be his (Fayose) father, said; “Ojudu will be making the biggest political mistake if he believed that this time around, he will ride on the back of political treachery, blackmail and bootlicking to become the governor of Ekiti State.”

The governor’s spokesperson said “Ojudu should rather advise President Buhari to go back to his farm in Daura, Katsina State if he has become too old to be corrected by Nigerians, who elected him and on whose sweat he is being sustained.”

He said Nigerians, irrespective of their age and position have inalienable rights to criticise public office holders, including the president, adding that; “Civilian dictators like Senator Ojudu are the ones carrying public office on their heads and playing god in the lives of Nigerians.”

Describing Ojudu as a serial blackmailer and an unrepentant hypocrite, Olayinka said; “It is funny that someone like Ojudu, who never took proper care of his own father is the one talking about Governor Fayose disrespecting President Buhari on account of his age.”

He challenged the Presidential Adviser to tell Nigerians the benefit derived by Ekiti people from his four years in the Senate and close to two years in the Presidency.

Olayinka said; “Here is a man who wasted four years in the Senate without anything to show for all the millions of naira he collected on behalf of Ekiti people now gallivanting up and down because he is in the Presidency.

“If Ojudu had done so well as a senator, won’t he have had the courage to seek re-election in 2015 like his two other colleagues?

“Even last year when Fulani herdsmen were killing Ekiti people and destroying their farmlands, Ojudu took side with the herdsmen against his own people just because he needed to be in the good books of President Buhari.

“It is a shame that someone like him is the one talking about the governor portraying Ekiti in a bad light when all he (Ojudu) has done since 1999 was to champion political instability in the State.

“Is it not on record that he (Ojudu) wagged war against Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Governor Fayose (during his first tenure) and Engr Segun Oni? He even lied against Oni that he set his house ablaze and engineered protest against Chief Afe Babalola (SAN) in Ibadan in 2007.”

PoliticsChaplain: Lagos CAN Backs Ambode, Says Sack In Order by metro2(op): 7:01pm On May 30, 2017
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Lagos State Chapter on Tuesday denied involvement of the wife of the State Governor, Mrs Bolanle Ambode in the sacking of former Presiding Chaplain of Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, Venerable Femi Taiwo, saying that the allegation was not only untrue but unjust and erroneous.

A newspaper had alleged in its series of reports that Taiwo was sacked for allegedly disrespecting Mrs Ambode by failing to accord her due recognition during an anointing service.

But addressing a press conference at the church premises on Tuesday, CAN leadership in the State, denied the allegation, saying that the Governing Council of the church acted within the law to relieve the chaplain of his duties.

CAN Chairman in the State, Apostle Alex Bamgbola said the information contained in the media reports was totally far from the truth, and that it was unfortunate that the public was fed with totally untrue story.

He said for the records, the chapel was established by the State Government for its officials and members of the public with a Governing Council running its affairs through a standing Constitution.

He said under the constitution of the chapel, the Governing Council, which reports to the Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Home Affairs, has the legal authority to appoint two officers to run the church who are the Presiding Chaplain and the Chaplain.

He said: “The Governing Council has the constitutional responsibility and authority to recruit and to terminate two officers who run the Chapel who are the presiding Chaplain, who is the senior officer and the Chaplain, who is the deputy. So, the presiding chaplain and the chaplain are officers of the chapel and officers of the government of Lagos State.

“With this clarification, it should be known by the general public that these two officers who run the chapel are strictly officers of the State Government and they are subject to terms and conditions of employment of the State Government.

“When this matter began, many well-meaning Christians and elders tried to look at things and see how to work on the issue so that it does not get to the point we have seen. Well, the fact is, having investigated the matter carefully and objectively, that is CAN Lagos State, we wish to state here today that the Governing Council that recruited Venerable Taiwo acted within its constitutional authority to terminate the appointment of Venerable Taiwo,” Bamgbola said.

He added that the allegation and especially the appointing fingers on the wife of the Governor was absolutely unfortunate, and it was most unfortunate that a media house decided to sell its paper with untrue story.

Bamgbola, who addressed the briefing alongside top leaders of CAN in the State, said: “In particular and most unfortunate is the accusation of our revered and most responsible First Lady of Lagos State, Deaconess Mrs Bolanle Ambode as being instrumental to the termination of the appointment of the presiding chaplain because of one anointing service.

“We wish to state clearly here today that this is far from the truth. We want the press to know this and we want to thank all of you because the press has been quite on this matter except a particular paper that has been selling its paper through this matter which is unjust, unfair and does not portray professionalism.

“Deaconess Mrs Bolanle Ambode as far as we know is a true woman of God who fears God and lives a godly live and whom it has pleased God to raise to be first Lady of Lagos State at this time. The error of judgment by the said newspaper is most unfortunate and unfair to her, unfair to the entire Lagos State Government and unfair to the church at large in Lagos.

“We are therefore appealing to the press and the social media to please desist henceforth from publishing and circulating erroneous publication concerning this matter,” he said.

When asked whether Taiwo was given notice before ejection from his official residence, Bamgbola answered in the affirmative, but said it would be inappropriate to start discussing the offence of the chaplain on the pages of newspaper.

He said for now, the CAN leadership has taken over the matter and would resolve it, but urged media practitioners to desist from circulating untrue story to the public.

Also speaking, Rt Rev. Michael Adeyemi, Bishop of African Church, Ifako Diocese, the church where the former chaplain was seconded to the Chapel, said the church was satisfied with the position taken so far by CAN.

He said: “The matter is already under the control of CAN. We are very much satisfied with what CAN is doing. We appreciate Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and our mother, his wife, Mrs Bolanle Ambode. The Governor has achieved a lot in the State and we are satisfied with him.

“On behalf of African Church, I will appeal that we are happy with CAN. The most important thing is to do what will glorify God. We have the mandate of African Church to say that we are in agreement with what CAN is doing on the matter,” Adeyemi said.

Other clergymen who attended the briefing are Lagos State CAN Secretary, Baba Aladura, Isreal Adewo; Lagos State CAN Treasurer, Rt Rev. Stephen Adegbite of Methodist Church; CAN Vice Chairman, Lagos State, Rev Dr Emmanuel Oguntoshin; and Bishop Adebanjo Gabriel Taiwo of African Church.

PoliticsResign If You Love Nigeria, Fayose Tells Buhari by metro2(op): 4:58pm On May 30, 2017
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari, to resign if he truly loves the country, as ill-heath is not allowing the President to effectively discharge his constitutional duties.

Fayose, who addressed newsmen in Lagos on Tuesday, said being an avowed corruption fighter, Buhari is now under moral burden to save Nigeria from needless stagnation arising from his heath challenges that have impacted negatively on his performance.

The governor said fighting corruption was not limited to ‎discovering large sums of money here and there, but doing the right thing at the right time.

He opined that taking a bow when necessary was also an indication of being morally upright.

The governor, who appraised the two years of the Buhari administration, said the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government had failed to deliver on its promises.

"So far, the APC-led Federal Government has been a government of misadventure and Nigerians are worse for it. They say they are fighting corruption but are shielding corrupt elements within their fold.

Members of the opposition defect to the APC for protection‎. Fighting corruption is more than discovering huge sums of money all over the place, with nobody being traced to be the owners, moral corruption too is bad.

"He can do us the great help by resigning. Not resigning bothers on his integrity.‎ His absence allows others to suppress and oppress others and that means he is allowing others ‎ to suppress their fellow human beings.‎ There are many governments in one and they are clueless.‎ We need an active president going by our numerous challenges. ‎How long will Nigerians wait for an incapacitated president‎?

‎"We cannot wait again for somebody to hold us to ransom.‎ I don't have any bad blood against Buhari Osinbajo has no powers without the president. He owes us the duty to tell us the state ‎of his health," the governor said.

On the performance of the economy, Fayose said it had gone from bad to worse.‎
He noted that the middle class had been wiped off.

"There is no middle class any more ‎.Economic indicators are not cherry at last. They borrow money on daily basis and committing funds that ought to accrue to all tiers of government to servicing the loans," he added.

On the much-touted rescue of Chibok girls. Fayose reiterated that the whole set up was a blackmail against former President Goodluck Jonathan, adding that one day, the true story would be revealed.
On insecurity in Nigeria, Fayose said more people had been killed by insurgents and herdsmen than in any other period in the history of Nigeria.

He wondered why no Fulani herdsmen had been arrested and prosecuted despite the atrocities perpetrated across the country.
