Celebrities / Interview: Dj Cuppy – On Music And Life And Being A Dream Chaser. by miabagacom: 9:33pm On Jul 25, 2013

Formerly known as DJ Cupcake, Dj CUPPY began by playing the Piano and then ventured into beat-making and DJing. She’s played at some of London’s top nightclubs and events and also well known clubs in Paris, New York and Dubai. DJ CUPPY began experimenting with music from her native hometown in Africa and noticed that it was gradually becoming widely accepted in mainstream Europe. She calls this new sound Neo-Afrobeats, a genre of music, which blends Electric House with Afro-beats.

It was this sound in her first single: I Love My Country, that brought her to our attention.

Plus the fact that she’s a female Deejay.

And also quite good looking.

Definitely not because she’s the daughter of Billionaire Femi Otedola.
O_O

Your mixes seem to cover a large swath of genres. What kind of music do you personally enjoy?

I listen to all types of music, which is a reflection of my personal taste- everything!

How do you pick which songs go into mixes?

I’m always brainstorming ideas, I start out with a couple of records in mind, and before I know it, I’ve been recording for 45 minutes!

Have you traveled a lot?

Yes, luckily that comes with my job. I love to discover new places and cultures; I think it’s both inspiring and educational!

What’s the hardest part about being a DJ?

It has to be my non-existent sleeping pattern and jet lag. Urgh.INTERVIEW: DJ CUPPY On Music And Life and Being A Dream Chaser.

Did you always want to have a career in music?

I’ve always had a love for music, but would have never thought it would end up as a possible career. No one could have told me I’d have a single out right now. I’m so thrilled and feel super blessed!

Are you into Nigerian music? Who are you listening to?

Of course! This moment in time, got Kcee’s “Limpopo” on repeat in my car!

What’s the best thing about being a DJ?

Creating a great atmosphere and making people feel good, get together, and forget about their worries! Seeing a packed dance floor always gives me a buzz!

Why’d you choose to that mix of the Tunji Oyelana song “I love my country”?

I’ve always been a fan of Nigerian Highlife music, so Tunji Oyelana is an artist I’ve always appreciated. The sound I create as a producer is called Neo-Afrobeats. This is best described as a fusion between Electric House and Afro-beats. Deciding to try something adventurous, I started making house remixes of old Yoruba records. Tried out a few, but there was just such an empowerment about Tunji Oyelana’s record. I’m so excited to have the opportunity to revive such a meaningful song.

What was it like for you, growing up?

I grew up in Ilupeju and had cheerful and bright childhood. I was certainly a bit of a mischievous toddler though, giving my parents a bit of a handful!

What did your dad say when you told you were going to be a DJ?INTERVIEW: DJ CUPPY On Music And Life and Being A Dream Chaser.

“Go for it, Baby!”

Speaking of which, what’s it like being his daughter? And do you think it helps or hinders your music in Nigeria?

I have the most loving, hardworking and hilarious dad. Just like any father-daughter relationship, we have our great days and not-so-great days (Haha!). Regarding my music, I feel that time tells all. It’s very easy to get distracted from the content itself and focus on the background “stuff”, but I can only hope that over time my talent and music speak for themselves!

What do you do for fun?

DJ! Haha! I’m always busy to be honest, but I get a lot of satisfaction from what I do. When I have free-time, I’m with out with family or friends.

Celebrities / Fun With Dele Momodu [@delemomodu] by miabagacom: 1:34pm On Jul 25, 2013
Chief MKO Abiola’s daughter gave an interview for BBC recently. Completely moved, Dele Momodu took to Instagram to express his grief last Sunday:

“This lady Dupe Abiola spoke about her father being detained when she was barely 12 and how he died in prison when she was 16″, he cried.

The message behind the image was powerful and we all took time to reflect on it. It in fact moved us to such extremes that we looked up to the heavens and cried: “Oh God, Oh God…Why has no one made memes off this?”

This is our message to Nigerians: Do not let this be in vain. Let us hold this moment in our memories by immortalizing this picture.

Let us make memes of this.

He has foregone the assistance of his usual suspects and gone ahead to solely present for your listening pleasure, this masterpiece. “It may be hard to tell” EFA says, “But the song is a labour of love that has been three years in the making.” Explaining the time lag, he goes on to say that “I was waiting for the right moment, and it’s weird but no other time could be better than right now.”

The song, Sumo Bi – a Yoruba entreaty to “Come hither – borrows on Yoruba local to Ibadan, the city he grew up. It tries and succeeds at marrying strong elements of pure R&B and Nigerian Pop music in its varying phases. From it’s bass guitar riffs to its all round feel-good vibe, Sumo Bi delivers on an unspoken “broken record” song. It is the second offering in what EFA has promised will be an interesting audio experience for lovers of good music.

The Chinese Government Wants To Pay You N5m/Year to be a ‘Chief Porn Identification Officer’

one sore point of discussion in the western world is the iron brace that China has over its interwebs. But even with this, porn websites pop up every single day. Lol. It’s almost ridiculous. Hence, why China’s League of Safety is desperately seeking a special someone — an E-Snitch, for a role as their “Chief Pornographic Identification Officer.” If you feel this burden of responsibility to rid the Chinese interwebs of such “filth” and you feel the need to be paid for what you do in secret already then you are just the (wo)man for the job: this Chinese security company is looking for you!

The job listing reads:

Job Title: Chief Pornographic Identification Officer Work Location: Beijing Compensation: 200,000 RMB (US$32,300[N5,161,800]) yearly Job Description: Rapid Determination of Adult Sites

Requirements: 1) Must be familiar with the standard of adult content from around the world 2) Must be familiar with China’s law standards regarding adult content, familiar with documented regulations 3) Must be familiar with the standards for adult content on China’s internet and it’s service providers 4) Regardless of gender, must be college graduate from 25-35 years old 5) Must have a strong sense of responsibility and work well in a team

Benefits 1) Full insurance benefits; food, transportation and some communication expenses 2) Book purchasing expenses (actual cost); daily fruit and yogurt 3) Yearly physical check-up; birthday, wedding, and baby bonuses

Already, the Safety League has received thousands of applications from around the world within two days If you are discouraged just think: N5m annual salary to get paid for what you already do keeping Chinese web clean. There’s full insurance benefits too. Don’t dull please.
