Richiez: this is a mere expression and not an equation...don't complicate things, just get one thing straight; the best way to solve questions like this is using the graphical method
let me treat a very simple example

2^x= 4x
first thing that should come to your mind when you see this kind of question is;although an 'equal to' sign separates the L.H.S and the R.H.S same variable x exists on both sides in such a way that one of the 'x' is raised as a power
it is because of this complication (the bolded part) that we resort to graphical method

now you are free to choose any suitable range of values for 'x' so you can plot on a graph. L.H.S on one axis and R.H.S one the other axis[b](say 2^x on y-axis and 4x on x-axis)[/b] so that the point of intersection becomes your solution
let try values from 1 to 5

when x=1
L.H.S= 2^x= 2¹=2
R.H.S= 4x =4(1)= 4
and so on.......till x=5

2^x |2|4|8.|16|32|
4x|4|8|12|16|20|


plotting your graph with this table of values, your point of intersection should be at x=4
hence the solution to the question is x=4

my advice is that your practice similar questions starting from the simpler ones to the more difficult ones
