I got a letter from my office (international) stating the event I was leading in the US and the importance that I be at the event.

Hi all. Does anyone have any info on how long it usually takes between visa interview approval and getting your passport back? I’m supposed to be traveling this weekend and have still not received any update on picking my passport. I went to check in OIS today and they said they haven’t received it yet. Any advice?

Came to share my US visa story in case it helps anyone. I applied since last year March, but got a date for 24th September 2024. I was fine because I didn’t have a pressing issue in the US, until an important work event came up that needed me to be in the US September 19th. Tried using an agent and didn’t succeed in changing the date, then this new platform was created and nothing was happening for some weeks. Finally I was onboarded to the usvisaappt. Once I was onboarded, I saw the option to book an emergency appointment and used this. I explained the emergency, and included a letter from my organization explaining the importance of my being in the US.

Two days later, I checked my usvisappt and I saw that emergency dates had opened up to me. I now had the option to pick a date throughout last week and this week. I picked Tuesday 10th of September. My appointment letter was saying emergency appointment. Mind you, they never sent me an email to say that the emergency appointment request had been approved (not in spam too). I was lucky I checked.

When I went for my interview, the people validating documents at the entrance knew that I was the person coming for an emergency appointment. My appointment was for 11AM. I got there at 10AM and was allowed in. There were no queues and I didn’t see a lot of people in the embassy.

The VO asked me some questions around the work I do, flipped my passport a lot looking at the stamps I’ve gotten previously. I even came with plenty letters from my office, bank statement etc. and he didn’t request any at all. He asked me if I’m married or have kids and I said no — I guess he was trying to ascertain family ties.

He then smiled and gave me the white slip, and said this document contains information on how you will get your passport back as soon as it’s ready. I said thank you and left.

What can I do to get a visa date earlier than the late September I have? I’ve seen some suggestions for applying for an emergency appointment — how do I go about this? With emergency appointments, I wonder if anyone knows the turnaround time.

Final question please. How do I find out more about the certified group to join for dates? Is there anyone I can speak to?

1. On the day of your visa interview , the consular officer would stand in front of you and be typing on a computer while asking you questions , the page he opened on that computer is your DS -160.

2. Therefore , you should not have more than 10 munites to defend yourself verbally why you think you qualify for the visa . The helper that will do the remaining talking for you is what the consular is reading on your DS-160 page.

3. Go and fill another DS-160 and input the necessary changes in your overall profiles and discard the old one. Besides , you don't start talking stories that the consular did not ask you to analyse.

4. For the group , look out for the group that is authorised by the admin of Nairaland . Don't join any external group.

I filled my USA visa DS-160 form February 2023 and was given an appointment date for much later in August 2024.

I’m fine with waiting for the appointment date. But my question now is that some things have changed since I filled the form. Good changes though. I work for a different company now. I earn much more than I did then. My travel history has expanded by about 8 more countries since then.

What do I do? Do I need to fill another DS-160 or can I use the old one and explain to the interviewer? Please let me know.

I’m also looking for link to group that gives date updates so I can try and get an earlier date. Thank you so much!!
