A 60-year-old man who specializes in producing fake currencies has been arrested by the police for allegedly duping a lady to the tune of N1.99million. The suspect simply identified as Hyacinth Nwogu, was apprehended after the victim, Helen Olajide, 28, reported to the police. It was alleged that the suspect collected N1.99m in installments from her under the guise of supplying her goods. Narrating her ordeal, the victim said: “I was standing at the bus stop waiting for a cab when their vehicle came close to me and they claimed that they knew me and that they were ny customers. They told me they have a business for me and being a businesswoman, I decided to go with them. “One of them was speaking French and they claimed that they were importers and had a container loaded with computers, clothes, babies wears and other items in the warehouse. I picked interest on some of the items and wrote them down. They made me sign an agreement to pay money that they would go to Customs quarters and clear the goods. “At the house, they collected my ATM card and went to the bank and withdrew N150,000. The next payment I made was N900,000 cash on August 26, which I gave them at Ikeja. Then, they gave me a Fidelity Bank account number belonging to Chukwuma Eke Linda where I paid the other money. In all, I paid N1.992million. It was after paying that I asked myself what was happening. That I have been paying money into a particular account and I haven’t seen the goods. “Then, I called them to come and sign an agreement with my lawyer but they switched off their phones and started avoiding me. That was when I knew I have been duped. So, I reported to the police. “They didn’t show me anything about money and they didn’t tell me they wash money. Why would I fall for that if they told me? Are they Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)? What they told me was that they would supply me with goods.” On interrogation, the suspect confessed that he specializes in producing fake currency and denied that he promised to supply goods to the victim. According to the father of five, the amount they collected from the young lady was a million naira which was shared among the four culprits.

There were two fishermen who where close pals. They used to catch fish together on weekends. Since they were busy in their personal work and family, they hardly spend time together. It was a Saturday and they decided to drive to a nearby pond to enjoy their day in fishing. Also, they wanted to have some feast with the fish they catch. Both carried essential utensils, cooking accessories, ingredients and fishing equipments. They reached the pond. They sat at a distance and started hunting for the fish. The first fisherman got a big and beautiful fish in a few minutes. He was so happy and placed the fish in the ice box to retain the freshness. He decided to cook the fish as a whole fish in the noon. He spent some more time and captured a few more fishes. He decided to make a grand meal with the fish. Also, he froze a few fishes to take it back to home. It was almost more than an hour they were fishing. He then approached the second fisherman and asked him if he need any help. The second man said no. In a few minutes, the second fisherman captured a large fish. However, he put that back into the lake. The first man was surprised at his act. He remained silent. The second man captured many big fishes, but he just put back all those fishes into the lake. Very annoyed by his act, the first fisherman angrily asked him, ‘Are you mad? Why do you put your fishes back into the water? They were beautiful and big!’ The second fisherman replied, ‘I know they were big, but I don’t have the big pan to cook the big fish! So I’m looking for a smaller fish that fits my cooking pan! The god is troubling me today.’ By hearing this, the first fisherman was surprised. He advised the second fisherman to cut the big fish into small pieces to suit in the pan and cook them properly. Many people are just like the second fisherman. We are provided with handful of big opportunities, chances and even fortune that we many times overlook. We need to work out just the same like the big fish fit into a small pan. God will always give massive possibilities as well as problems that we can handle effortlessly. Everything given to us is within our means. Tell your problems that you have god with you rather than telling the god that you have problems.

Nigeria's financial woes are not showing any signs of going away. And now President Muhammadu Buhari needs more money. Buhari asked parliament Tuesday to approve plans to borrow $30 billion to fund infrastructure plans through 2018. The money is needed to address a recession that has gripped the country for much of the year as a result of the freefall in the in the price of crude oil globally — nearly two-thirds of the Nigeria's government revenue is from the sale of oil. However, Buhari's borrowing request comes amid growing concerns about the competency of his administration. As per Buhari's plan, the $30 billion dollars will come from overseas lenders, such as the World Bank, and will include the sale of $4.5 billion worth of Eurobonds and a planned budget support of $3.5 billion, according to Reuters. Buhari has already sent a draft budget for 2017 to parliament for approval, which includes the details for a record $22.55 billion stimulus aimed at pulling Nigeria out of its recession.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has arrested one Christopher Nnabuihe over production and selling of fake peal powder in Calabar metropolis. The NAFDAC Coordinator in Cross River State, Dr. Isaac Kolawole, who disclosed the arrest in a statement made available to DAILY SUN yesterday, said they have received complaints of adulterated peak milk from consumers which prompted them to swing into action leading to the arrest of the suspect while making supplies to stores. Kolawole said Nnabuihe, 56, who resides at No 42, Cameroun Road, Calabar, confessed to be refilling 440g (promotion pack) of peak powdered milk with another cheaper brand of milk product which he buys in large quantity (50kg) and uses to refill the packs. He said the suspect buys already printed 440g packs from Ariaria Relieve Market Aba, Abia state from where he takes them to Calabar for refilling and seal them up with candle light. He pointed out that taking such an unwholesome/questionable product may result to some health problems as nobody can vouch for the content of the fake product and the Good Hygienic Practice (GHP). He added that laboratory analysis will be conducted on the product, warning that hard time awaits those who indulge in adulteration of NAFDAC regulated products as the agency will come down hard on them. In a confessional statement, Nnabuihe said, “one 50kg of the milk will fill 27 pieces (two cartons and three pieces three pieces) and I sells one carton of the fake peak milk at N6000 and make a profit of N1,000 per carton.” According to him, you can only suspect it to be fake from the taste as the packaging of the fake and original appear the same. It was leant that the prosecution of the suspect, Christopher Nnabuihe, has commenced at a Magistrate Court in Calabar as hearing continues on October 28.
