Law -abiding staff of The Sun Publishing Limited resumed work this morning, June 12, 2017 to behold heavily armed EFCC operatives in our company. They claimed to have "orders from above" to seal up the premises of The Sun Publishing Limited. At gunpoint, they ordered our security personnel to take them round the company premises, after which they proceeded to prevent staff from either entering or leaving the premises, and disrupted our circulation process. For one gruelling hour, EFCC operatives subjected our staff to crude intimidation, psychological and emotional trauma, even as some of the men accused our organisation of publishing pro-Biafra, Boko Haram and Niger Delta militant stories, as they surveyed our premises. We recall that in 2007, (10 years ago) the EFCC had obtained an interim forfeiture order in respect of some assets of The Sun, attached to a suit against our Publisher, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, for which we have filed an appeal, which is still pending in court. We also recall that the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu had written a letter personally signed by him dated 23rd of May and received on the 7th of June, asking The Sun management to report to the Commission on 5th of June, detailing our operations in the last 10 years, on account of an interim order of forfeiture under appeal As law abiding corporate citizen, our lawyer, Chief Chris Uche SAN, wrote the Commission to intimate the Agency that the issue was pending before the court of Appeal. The receipt of our correspondence was duly acknowledged. We were therefore shocked that our premises would be invaded by the Commission under whatever guise. This is condemnable and reprehensible. No one, Agency or authority should be above the laws of our country. An abuse of the law is a recipe for chaos. Magu had in an earlier letter threatened to sue The Sun over a report published by one of our titles, pertaining to a report on investigation of a property allegedly traced to his wife. But up till now, we are yet to receive any court process. In the light of the above, we strongly view this onslaught against The Sun as a personal vendetta by the leadership of the Commission, and by extension a declaration of war against the media. In this invasion of our premises, it is crystal clear that what Magu and his Commission are after is not only to intimidate and muzzle us, but a furious attempt to call a dog a bad name in order to hang it. On the issue of the interim order, which he purportedly based his invasion, Magu knows the matter has been on appeal since 2007 for which hearing comes up this week. But rather than wait for the court process, thecCommission under the leadership of Magu, typically resorted to self help. We want the general public to take note of this authoritarianism and high handedness, which has been the hallmark of Magu’s leadership of the EFCC. The other charge of publishing Biafra, Boko Haram and Niger Delta militant stories is very ridiculous, baseless and anti-Press freedom. We like to state that we are neither an ethnic, political nor religious newspaper, but we are the Voice of the Nation, reflecting all sides, all views and all shades of opinion in line with the ethics of our profession. We challenge Magu and his Commission to show where The Sun’s stories have been different from other papers in the country. We call on well-meaning citizens and relevant authorities to restrain Magu and his Commission from taking the laws into their hands. http://www.metronaija.com/2017/06/photos-judith-audu-oc-ukeje-lala.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |

Owerri-based writer and teacher, Chibuihe Light Obi has finally regained freedom after a harrowing three days of being held hostage by unknown captors. It was a weekend of bated breaths and twiddling thumbs as friends of the poet woke on Saturday to news that Chibuihe Light Obi who was supposed to turn up for a literary event in the city of Nsukka was nowhere to be found. A couple of his friends would then receive messages via his Facebook messenger which raised suspicions that he had been kidnapped in connection with an essay which he had written recently and condemned homophobia. Chibuihe Light Obi Chubuihe Light would begin his journey to freedom on the heels of a message relayed to friends and followers on his social media page. “Isiala mbano hedqater pik him dia,” the cryptic message said on the night of Sunday, June 4,/2017. www.metronaija.com correspondent gathered from a friend of Chibuihe that even though they had received the message an hour before his abductors shared the above message, when Paulcy Cyprian Iwuala, the friend who had been assigned to drive to the location got to the location, Chibuihe’s was nowhere to be found. According to our source, “Paulcy found a corper’s lodge, but Chibuihe was not there. We asked him to search in the bush, no show. He went and hung around the village. And then a call came to him to come pick up Chibuihe by 6:30am (on Monday)” “He drove off again to the police station where some corpers had taken Chibuihe to. Paulcy found him there and drove him back to Owerri.” Our source insists that friends and family of Chibuihe Light Obi did not enter into any negotiations with his abductors, in the three days that they held him captive. He returned with seemingly minor injuries, and when asked if hurt, we learnt Chibuihe agreed that he was hurt, but the hurt was minor. In the words of our source: “When I asked him if he needs to go to the hospital, he said yes. But not yet“ The obviously traumatized Chibuihe however said that his abductors covered his face during his three-day ordeal, and as such he has no idea of his abductors. He has also said that his kidnappers have all the money in his account via his atm cards. As to the reason behind his kidnap, speculations may not be far from true as the writer has told close friends and family that his abductors asked him: “so you are that lgbt rights boy.” While we wish Chibuihe a quick recovery from this traumatic experience, we hope people can eventually learn to tolerate other people’s views and accommodate differences as a necessary way to attain peaceful co-existence. http://www.metronaija.com/2017/06/chibuihe-obi-gay-activist-finally.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44

The 12 minutes, 58 seconds video shows a crowd of Boko Haram members heading to a prayer ground for Eid prayers. The Imam who led the prayers was identified as the assistant to the group’s known leader, Abubakar Shekau. His name was not mentioned. Although Shekau did not feature in the video, the narrator made it clear the faction was loyal to Shekau. A separate faction of the sect has since earlier this year been led by Abu Musab al-Barnawi, son of a former founder of the group, Mohammed Yusuf. The new video shows two different Eid prayer sessions at the same time. While a group was praying inside a mosque, another was praying in a different location outside a mosque. Each group had a different imam or prayer leader. After a sermon in Arabic, which lasted less than a minute, the imam of the group inside the mosque delivered a rant in Hausa. Below is the transcription. “Brothers, this is our Eid for the year 1437 AH (2016) under the leadership of our leader, Abu Muhammad Abubakar Ibn Mohammad Ashakawi (Shekau). “We extend our greetings to our people and fighters all over the world; and to our leader, the leader of Jama’atu ahlus-sunnah lidda await wal jihad Imam Abubakar Shekau. “We pray that Allah should keep us together under this umbrella and cause. “May Allah guide us to follow the teachings of prophet Muhammad (SAW). May Allah make us triumph over all the infidels of this world. May Allah protect our leader, mallams, wives and everybody all together. “Our message to the infidels who are fighting us; especially their leader, the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, is that he should know that we are still in this religion. And like they keep saying that they have defeated us; it is indeed not true, because we are in good health and succeeding in our cause. We are very strong and doing very well. “Buhari is saying that he will finish us. Let him know that before he said so, other infidels said so before now and they couldn’t. “So this infidel by the name Buhari saying that he will finish us, he should know that by the grace of Allah, he cannot finish us. Rather, he will die, he will die, he will die. “Our leader who is leading us on this, Imam Jamatu ahlus Sunnah lidda awat (Shekau), may Allah continue to protect him for us. “By the will of Allah, under the leadership of our leader (Shekau), we will capture Buhari with our hands.” The congregation now disperses from the mosque chanting Allah Akbar. The Imam steps out from the mosque for a photo shoot behind the group’s flag and says: “My last message is to you Buratai (Tukur, Nigeria’s Army Chief), Kukasheka (Sani, spokesperson of Nigerian Army) and the rest of the infidels. “You should know that this is a brand new video which we recorded today the 12th of September 2016, using the infidel’s calendar. “It is a new video, not an old one. It is a brand new video; (we hear) you are saying you will finish us with your fighter jets. “By the grace of God, you will see what we will do to you. “Under the leadership of our leader, Shekau, we will step further henceforth and will destroy what we never destroyed before. “We are ready and even stronger now. We will go to where we never were before now and destroy what we never destroyed before now. “You infidels, you are finished now. You all want to live and enjoy life; but this time around, we are well prepared to die. (Chants of “Allah Akbar”). “No retreat, no surrender by the grace of God! No retreat, no Surrender by the grace of God! No retreat, no surrender by the grace of God! “We shall cut off your heads with our swords and guns (removing his sword from the sheath). “Allah is going to help us. And you shall see how he is going to do that soon. (Chants of “Allahu Akbar”). The video then showed a mini horse race by some Boko Haram fighters to entertain the scores of members who were chanting “Allah Akbar”. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/09/full-transcription-boko-haram-brags-in.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |

Finally, the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC has issued a definite warning to all Nigerians to stay away from MMM, a Ponzi Scheme getting huge popularity in Nigeria. In a press statement released by the SEC, the commission said: “The attention of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Nigeria (“SEC”) has been drawn to the activities of an online investment scheme tagged ‘MMM Federal Republic of Nigeria (nigeria.). The platform has embarked on an aggressive online media campaign to lure the investing public to participate in what it called “mutual aid financial network” with a monthly investment return of 30%” “The Commission hereby notifies the investing public that the operation of this investment scheme has no tangible business model hence it’s a PONZI SCHEME where returns are paid from other people’s invested sum. Also, its operation is not registered by the Commission”. “The general public is hereby advised to distance themselves from this online scheme. Please note that anyone that subscribe to this illegal activity does so at his/her own risk”. It would be recalled that PageOne.ng had published a widely trending article on MMM warning the general public to stay away from the scheme because of its unreliability, over-generalised promises and the background of the founder of the scheme. We have also received many backlash emails from MMM members, many of which were confrontational, insultive and diversionary. However, one of the coherent replies written by Awonusi Oluwole, argued that MMM is just a scam just like the conventional banking and financial system. However, because of the cardinal role we play, we still maintain our stand that MMM is a scam and a Ponzi Scheme, and the general public should refrain in getting involved in it. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/09/sec-warns-nigerians-to-stay-away-from.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |

Please pay him and other coaches their outstanding salaries" Dalung said. The Secretary-General of the Nigeria Football Federation Dr Sanusi however said that efforts were already being made to pay the coaches their salaries. "We have held meetings and we are waiting for the money to drop. The money is already there in our account but we need to regularize the TSA procedures before we can claim the money. The attention of the Palace of His Royal Majesty, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, Odundun II, the Deji and Paramount Ruler of Akure, has been drawn to the sacrilegious act carried out at the Ondo State Secretariat of the All Progressive Congress early this morning. The palace condemns the attitude of some miscreants who went and sealed the entrance of the party secretariat with the traditional palm fronds which is the traditional means of sealing off premises in Akureland. We want to state that carrying out traditional sealing-off of premises remains the prerogative of the Palace. The Deji of Akure remains non-partisan and a father to all political aspirants and never authorized such. Oba Ogunlade frowns at this attitude and wishes to inform the general public that such act did not emanate from the palace. We wish to inform you that any attempt to desecrate the tradition will be vehemently rebuffed. It is certain that those who carried out this condemnable act are not aware of the cultural and traditional implications of this action. The palace is a-political and therefore should not be dragged into the internal wrangling of any party. The Palace has sent its emissaries to carry out a thorough investigation of the matter and we are confident that the culprits will be apprehended in no distant time. We call on the APC party executives to unravel the circumstances behind this abominable act. We equally call on security agencies to investigate and bring to book those behind the sacrilegious act so as to serve as deterrent to would-be persons. We want to state without mincing words that the palace has nothing to do with and equally condemns it in its entirety.
