Ibime: My point and yours are the same. Assuming a true defensive midfielder like Nigel De Jong, Ettienne Capoue or whoever was in the team, would there be any debate as to who should partner him? The only reason Ramires and Mikel can be even considered is because they both have what the other does not. Regardless they are still woeful. Everything you typed up there just goes to show how poorly Emenalo planned the season. 7 competitions now where Chelsea have been knocked out easily due to the same problems you highlighted in terms of personnel. Emenalo is a record breaker!!

Like I've said from season start, the only reason Mikel is playing is because Ramires distribution is too poor so he needs Mikel to collect the ball off the defence for him. Conversely the only reason Ramires is playing is because he's the only one with pace in midfield.

Luiz and Lampard are better midfield and are yet to lose a game together but the Luiz experiment has been discontinued for whatever reason.

Apart from that, I see no reason why Oscar should be playing ahead of Lampard if not for the straitjacket 4-2-3-1 system commanded from on high by the incompetent Emenalo who refused to let managers manage.

Bros Lampard has nothing to prove about his ability. His record of success is longer than my arm. The only people with anything to prove are the incompetents in the team and TD position whose failure to do their jobs has seen Chelsea knocked out of 7 competitions this season, all for the same reason - softness in midfield. In every single competition we got knocked out of, the story is the same - our midfield was overpowered. No wonder some peeps like una are pining for Meireles.

As for Mikel, there was no single occassion during the match where he was able to track an opponents run from start to finish. I always watch his game closely. The dude is the most incompetent defensive midfielder I can think of. The only defensive midfielder who needs a defensive midfielder behind him and another energetic player in front of him to harry opponents to give him space to play his slow game.

Lampard wouldnt have been better in this game imo , instead of him i would have played moses in the place of oscar (just because we lack players, i dont rate moses highly these days )

Havilah93: 1. Cesar Azpilicueta needs to step up his game if he wants to continue playing for chelsea. lots of errors from him today. He's been having a bad run of games of late. The own goal vs Sunderland, the penalty give-away at Russia, and now this.
2. chelsea need a strong, witty, no-nonsense midfielder in the mould of Yaya Toure. He was a beauty to watch, bullying off challenges and bumping forward at will.
3. with the right manager who can instill the grittiness, determination and courage into these boys, this team will go places.
4. Demba Ba is a natural goal-poacher
5. The trio of Hazard, Mata and Oscar need to hit the gym, and fast too , Oscar in particular
6. Chelsea showed the character (as always) to come back in the 2nd half, but that early goal killed it for us.
