VTJN:Wow...Same Course. Thats nice to know. I support your decision above. Talking from experience. |
This post just brought Nostalgia to me now. I feel like crying. I finished my first degree and graduated with honours in Geography and Planning (2016). Around that time was when I discovered Nairaland because I wanted information on NYSC. As we crossed over to 2017, I became a follower of Nairaland for News updates for my NYSC and of course jobs. Then I saw a post about WAEC Marking 2017. Luckily for me, my name came out for service but was posted to Kebbi. I didn't go due to - insecurity in the country - the hausa drivers at Iyana Ipaja told me armed robbers were on the road and the bus moves by night. They told me not to go atall. - I didn't want to go far. I later got posted again in the next batch after waiting for 3 months at home. This time I was shocked to see I was posted to Ogun state. I now went (testimony for another day)But before then, I decided to GATECRASH and Mark WAEC Geography while waiting for next batch. Went for Coordination with my Certificates And documents for 3 days in a Government School at Agege, 5 mins walk from NYSC Orientation Camp, Iyana-Ipaja. I was given my Scripts (303 Scripts). I spent 5 Days marking. Morning and night. I didn't rest. But my Unit Team Leader and Chief Team Leader were two TERRORS. The Chief Team Leader was just frustrating me anyhow. The Man has a bad attitude of complaining, shouting and shouting. He has bad mouth. My Team Leader who is a Pastor refused to be present to vet my scripts. I called him all through he did not pick my calls. I did all alone. I marked the scripts well. I was given scripts of students in the far North East. They all wrote rubbish and performed woefully in Geography that year. It was just 2 or 3 private schools of the scripts I marked that performed well that year. The Chief Team Leader having discovered that my unit team leader did not make himself available to vet me then told me to go and remark. He didn't believe I marked well and started frustrating me in the Marking Hall on our meet up day in the presence of other teachers and examiners. All this while, my unit team head who was responsible for submitting my vetted records to the chief was unavailable. He later showed up and started his own drama saying he is a Pastor bla bla bla. He vetted some scripts and left. I think he even dropped the records sheet with me sef to keep. (Something that shouldn't be in my possession). Meanwhile, we were meant to be vetted like 3 times before final submission. For the 2nd and 3rd vetting, baba was nowhere to be found. Day of the final submission, I got angry. Everybody in Geography Department had started submitting leaving only me. I couldn't submit becos my scripts had not been vetted for the 2nd and 3rd time. I went to the school and demanded I needed to see my unit head. They called him he was not picking. I complained my ordeal to the available teachers there and told them that I was done. They started begging me not to leave. I dropped the scripts there and left. I called my troublesome chief examiner and told him all and that I was leaving. Baba started begging me on the phone not to leave. He instructed the teachers to hold me down till he came. They held me. After some minutes, I told them I wanted to buy food and that I was hungry. They instructed a man to follow me. The man was following me at a distance. Immediately I stepped out of the gate, I saw a bike. I just jumped on it and told the bike man to just be going anywhere. Before the man following me would come out, I had left ![]() Before I got home, different numbers started calling me. I refused to pick. The troublesome chief examiner called me. I didn't pick. The next day, the Overall Centre Coordinator For Agege called me. I picked. He wanted to see me face to face but I told him I was not coming. I told him all that I passed through. He wanted me to come and do some sign off but I was already exhausted and didnt want to see the faces of the chief examiner and who knows "my unit examiner". He then said that my Unit Examiner caused everything and he feels bad that he made me pass through that kind of additional stress on top of the marking especially as a First timer. He apologized for all and was so sad. Also said they want young bloods like us to come in and take over becos they are looking for ways to remove those old ones of the system. Na Dem Sabi. Well that's my ordeal as a first timer WAEC Examiner in Lagos. In all, my advice for anyone going as a Gatecrasher or First timer is this - Some Chief Examiners Are Just Problematic And Are looking for ways to frustrate First timers. On top how much Biko? N15K ![]() - Some Unit Examiners Are Worse And Would not vet your work atall so that the whole problem will bounce back on you on the last day. They will not even be present like mine. - They would be using the fact that you came as a Gatecrasher (First timers) against you and would want to be finding fault in your work. Abeg chill, i spent 5 years studying Geography and Planning in the University and finished with good grades. What is O Level Geography that I don't know for heaven's sake ![]() - In all, N15K is not what the entire stress if u ask me becos you won't have time for yourself for like a week long. I kid you not. If u are not the type that can sit in a place while bending your neck for hours, DO NOT DO IT. But hey, u can try it for the experience. Nothing in life beats having raw experience of something and who knows, u might be blessed with heavenly Chief and Unit Examiners who won't be out to frustrate any Gatecrasher or Firstimer in their unit. I hope my story has inspired you all to mark. Happy Marking!!!! |

This should be the hair style of Nigerians who just migrated to the US. Good things is that, you can Barb it yourself at home. But seriously, I hear Barbers abroad make good money. But how come?
