PoliticsRadio Bayelsa Fire: Panel Of Inquiry Submits Report by moibayelsa(op): 4:50am On Aug 21, 2019
The panel of inquiry into the July 2, 2019 fire incident at the Bayelsa State Government owned Radio Station, Glory FM on Tuesday submitted its report to the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson.

Chairman of the panel, Mr. Marshall Edolo while submitting the report attributed the fire incident to negligence of some technical staff of the corporation in the maintenance of vital equipments.

He said the panel discovered that some electrical lines were overloaded and routine maintenance was ignored by the management of the radio station which led to the unfortunate incident.

Mr. Edolo said the panel discovered that there was no act of sabotage as earlier being speculated, insisting that it was purely a case of negligence and the use of quacks to carry out maintenance.

He said "Negligence was the cause of the fire outbreak. Certain routine maintenance that should have been done was not done. Not only that, the use of non professionals in the maintenace of equipments also worsened the situation.

"For whatever reason the management of the station always hire the services of incompetent hands to carry out checks on its equipments. This is highly unprofessional.

"There was no sabotage, no physical hard evidence to provide that the outbreak occurred intentionally. So the story about sabotage was unfounded".

Edolo who is also the Director of Planning Research and Statistic in the Ministry of Information and Orientation charged the state government to study and take action on the report to avoid a repeat in the future.

Receiving the report, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation lauded the efforts of the committee, especially for their courage to deliver their findings despite all odds.

He assured of the government's commitment to act on the recommendations of the committee in order to prevent such ugly occurrences in future.

"We are happy that no life was lost and that the damage was controlled immediately with the swift response of the state fire service and other patriotic Bayelsans. If not for those efforts, nothing would have been left of the radio station. Although the radio station is back on air, there is still much work to be done to bring back the station to its pride of place.

"You have ruled out any form of sabotage but that it was negligence. For me negligence is as bad as sabotage. If the right thing was done, perhaps we would not be talking of a fire incident today. But Bayelsans should know that will do everything possible to forestall any future occurrence.

"We would study this report and go through it line by line and also look at the recommendations made by the panel and we would recommend same to the Governor to take necessary and prompt action to ensure that the radio station functions in maximum capacity and renders full service to Bayelsans."

Iworiso-Markson also announced plans by the government to bring the state owned media outfits under one roof to enable them become more efficient in the discharge of their duties.

"His Excellency the Governor has made efforts to ensure that a proper structure for the radio station is built. As we speak, we are looking at the drawings and giving more specifics to the details. Presently, there is a law that has fused both the radio and television stations as one entity known as the Bayelsa Media Corporation.

"Now with what has happened, it will enable us redesign the building to accommodate the television arm for the radio and TV to be in one place and under one management.

"The government was committed to instituting a very robust media organization that will serve the people in the best way possible. We are working hard to see that the project is completed before the end of this administration".

PoliticsPdp Will Conduct Peaceful Guber Primary --iworiso-markson by moibayelsa(op): 4:19am On Aug 21, 2019
The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson has assured Bayelsans that the September 3, 2019 governorship primary of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) will be rancour free.

Iworiso-Markson gave the assurance during two live radio programmes monitored in the state capital on Tuesday.

He said the PDP working closely with Governor Henry Seriake Dickson has put in place all that is required to have a seamless governorship primary that will produce the standard-bearer of the party.

According to him, despite the plans by some mischievous elements within the party, the primary election will be largely successful and will satisfy and reflect the wishes of majority of its members.

Iworiso-Markson who is also the Head of Media and Publicity of the Restoration Governorship Primary Election Committee on PDP primary warned that security agents will deal decisively with anyone or group of persons that will attempt to disrupt the primary.

The Commissioner stated that the plan to accommodate delegates in different hotels in Yenagoa is not intended to favour any aspirant as being speculated by some individuals and groups.

He reiterated that the position of the state PDP on the accomodation of delegates was not new as it was the same thing done in the last national convention of the party in Port Harcourt.

Iworiso-Markson urged delegates not to be intimidated or wrongly influenced by any aspirant but should go into the primary with the conscience to vote the right person.

He called on the delegates and members of the party to disregard rumours that Governor Dickson has chosen a particular candidate, saying such ill conceived comments are aimed at sowing seeds of discord in the party.

The Government spokesman however alluded to the fact that Governor Dickson as leader of the party in the state has an interest which according to him is normal and does not in anyway connotate imposition of an aspirant.

The Information Commissioner expressed optimism that the peaceful conduct of the PDP primary will lead to a violent free governorship election on November 16 and appealed to all stakeholders to play their role diligently.

"The PDP primary is very crucial to all members of the party and we are working hard to achieve a peaceful primary election. As a party the PDP leadership has directed that all the delegates be camped in different hotels."

"We have heard all kinds of rumours concerning that. That directive is not to force the delegates to do the wish of anybody. It is meant to ensure that the aspirants have easy access to all the delegates. So that rumour should be disregarded."

"Let me also say here that the rumour that Governor Dickson has anointed an aspirant is not true. But like the governor has said, as a key stakeholder in the entire process he definitely should have an interest and that does not mean he has imposed someone.

"The mandate of the committee that was inaugurated on Monday by His Excellency is to ensure that we reach out to delegates, mobilize them massively to vote for the right person who should be a member of the Restoration team.

"We don't want a situation that will make someone who is not in our team to begin his own agenda which may slow down the pace of development with litany of abandoned projects. Government like they say is a continuum and that is how it should be."

"So I am using this opportunity to call on members of the PDP and Bayelsans not to listen to all the rumours. Sadly, all these rumours are so terrible. The governor yesterday said this is the capital of rumour and even though it is true it is a terrible narrative for our state".

BAYELSA RECOVERS N1.8BN FROM ONGOING PUBLIC SECTOR REFORMS

Bayelsa State Governor, the Honourable Seriake Dickson, on Wednesday said the ongoing reforms in the state public sector was yielding positive results as his administration has recovered about N2.2 billion annually through the exercise.

Governor Dickson stated this during a meeting of Labour leaders, members of the Post Primary Schools Board and Association of All Nigerian Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), in Yenagoa.

A statement by his Special Adviser, Media Relations, Mr Fidelis Soriwei, stated that the amount was saved from the ongoing verification exercise in the mainstream civil service and that of the post primary schools in the state.

The Governor said that the government had so far recovered N53million per month from the mainstream civil service and N134 million from discrepancies of salaries (grade levels and steps) of secondary school teachers and principals.

The Governor who commended the labour unions for supporting the reforms designed to stop the endemic payroll fraud in the public service said the money saved from the exercise could be committed to the development of the education sector to enhance service delivery.

While commending the efforts of workers verification committee led Dr. Josephine Igodo-led workers verification committee for its commitment and diligence, Governor Dickson expressed optimism that more funds would be recovered by the end of the exercise.

The Governor who vowed to ensure a holistic implementation of the civil service rules directed immediate identification and retirement of those above the statutory retirement age.

The Governor also approved the payment of the arrears of N18,000 minimum wage owed secondary teachers and directed the release of N50 million monthly with effect from April for that that purpose.

He said, “I will implement the civil service rules to the letter. All those who are beyond the statutory age of retirement in the service should be identified and retired.

"The labour leaders generally have been supportive in these reforms and we have saved this state a lot of money. And I know that by the time we conclude this exercise we will save more than this amount.

"This money will enable me employ more teachers if we want to employ more. All the leakages that were there before have been blocked so that we can serve the people better.

"My predecessor approved the N18,000 minimum wage and we inherited the arrears. And if we have paid the mainstream civil servants, we must pay the teachers with effect from this month because government is a continuum. Let us make a deposit of N50 million."

Governor Dickson called on the teachers to also reciprocate government's gesture and the investments made in the education sector by demonstrating dedication and commitment to their teaching profession.

He said that he was optimistic that the government’s efforts would yield more result by the end of the exercise.

The Governor noted that teachers whose salaries are being withheld would be paid into a special account known as, Unpaid Salaries Account pending when they have been duly verified.

In an interview with Government House Correspondents, the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Jonathan Obuebite, said the state government has lifted the embargo on the promotion of workers which came into effect from 2015.

Also, in her remarks, the Executive Secretary to the Post Primary Schools Board, Dr. Blessing Ikuru, commended Governor Dickson for his efforts at sanitizing the secondary schools.

She said the board was working hard to regularise all discrepancies discovered in the grade levels and steps of teachers salaries.

The State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Comrade Kalama Tonpre and President of ANCOPSS, Mrs. Christiana Ezetu applauded Governor Dickson for promoting professionalism and welfare of workers in the state.

GOV DICKSON OFFERS AUTOMATIC EMPLOYMENT TO 307 PHD; MSC HOLDERS, MEDICAL DOCTORS, OTHER BENEFICIARIES OF BAYELSA SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME

The Governor of Bayelsa State, the Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson, has offered automatic employment to 307 products of the Bayelsa State Scholarship Scheme who have concluded their doctorate degree and master decree programmes in various disciplines in universities across the world.

A statement by the Special Adviser, Media Relations, Mr Fidelis Soriwei, on Sunday, quoted the Governor as having made declared automatic employment for 107 PhD holders and 200 MSC degree holders during a meeting with beneficiaries of the scheme in Yenagoa at the weekend.

The Governor also announced automatic employment to all medical doctors, pharmacists and public health specialists and other beneficiaries of the State Scholarship Scheme who studied professional courses considered critical to the ongoing efforts to develop the state.

The Governor told the ecstatic audience that the 107 PhD holders would be deployed to the three state-owned universities - the Niger Delta University, University òf Africa and the Bayelsa Medical University - as lecturers.

He stated also that other products of the scheme who studied medicine and other professional courses at Master Degree level would be engaged by the state Government in the various medical facilities and the civil service respectively.

The beneficiaries of the scheme returned with PhDs and MSC in disciplines such as Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Agricultural Economics, Agric engineering, International relations, Pharmacy Practice, Public Health, Computing and Electronics System, Gas turbine engineering, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Law and Management, Statistics and others.

However, the Governor noted that the State Scholarship Scheme which was designed to send an army òf Bayelsa scholars to universities across the globe came with heavy sacrifice and cost to the government.

According to him, the government was saddled with outstanding liabilities of about three million Pounds, one million Euros, several million of Dollars, and Naira.

He stressed that while the cost of sending the scholars outside the country was quite huge, investment in education and human capacity development was the only way to wrest the state from clutches of underdevelopment, oppression and poverty.

He stated further that the plan of the Restoration Government under his leadership send an large number of Bayelsa Scholars to universities across the globe was stalled by the 2016 economic recession which affected several programmes of the government.

He said, “We should not forget to invest in education. The reason we are where we are is because of lack of education, the reason people take away our resources with impunity is lack of education.

“The mindless degradation of our own environment, the acts of impunity against our people and their environment, what I call environmental terrorism, is because of the backwardness in education.

“Those who woke up early and embraced education have taken over everywhere. This is our own way of equipping our people to be able to tackle the existential challenges facing us today.

“The cost is quite huge but no matter the cost, this is the right way to go. I don’t need to know any one of you to be given the opportunity and encouraged to study abroad.

“While it is good to build roads, hospitals, edifices, for the state, investments in human capacity is the most important. All the others can collapse but the investment in human capacity development will endure.”

“I had the intention to send out an army of scholars across the globe but the recession stalled that plan. Several programmes including the scheme suffered stagnation as a result of the recession, the worst in the history of our country.

“All those who have completed their PhDs and about to complete, totaling 107; the over 200 who have MSC in some core professional courses like Civil Engineering, Statistics, Pharmacy, Public Health and others and all medical doctors are hereby given automatic employment.”

The Governor assured beneficiaries of the scholarship scheme still in various universities within and outside the country that the state government would ensure the release of funds next week to gradually address the issues of outstanding bills in the various which are host to them.

He directed the Scholarship Board to commence the process to immediately settle the outstanding bills of scholars who have concluded their studies and needed their certificates for promotion or upgrading as well those who want to further their studies.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries who studied for Phd, Dr, Jude Cocodia, a lecturer at the Niger Delta University, commended Governor Dickson his bold revolution in the education sector in the state.

He said that the state was already feeling the positive impacts of years of sustained investments in education especially at the NDU which is host to a large number of the beneficiaries.

The Governor has earlier offered automatic employment to 31 First Class graduates and 1000 young graduates into the state civil service who received their letters of employment in January, 2019.

Governor Dickson said that his administration established the Tertiary Education Loan Scheme to enable every Bayelsa child with a desire to attain University education to obtain a loan collateralized by their certificates and then pay back when they are gainfully employed.

He stressed that the administration succeeded in building schools, set up various scholarship programs for all levels cut across the state in spite of the recession.

SYLVA’ THUGS SACK MOBILE POLICEMEN , NSCDC OPERATIVES FROM BASSAMBIRI, BAYELSA - PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party In Bayelsa has alleged that thugs led by an Oil Surveillance Contractor, Kodjo, operating at the behest of former Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva have sacked the mobile policemen and operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp in Bassambiri, Nembe Local Government Area.

The State Chairman of the PDP, Chief Moses Cleopas, said in a late night statement on Sunday that the thugs aided by soldiers had dug trenches and mounted barricades in Nembe Bassambiri to harass innocent people.

Cleopas said that it was rather frightening that the thugs working for a Bassambiri-born APC Chieftain, Sylva, could be allowed to sack members of the community who are not supporters of the All Progressives Congress.

He stated further that the thugs were mounting illegal road blocks with a view to scaring away supporters of the PDP with a view to hijacking electoral materials for thumb printing as was the case in the area during the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

He said that the current siege on Bassambiri had created a sad situation where thousands of innocent residents have become Internally displaced persons seeking refuge in Yenagoa and the nearby Ogbolomabiri.

Cleopas said that the former Governor had turned Bassambiri to be the headquarters of his illegal militia for the purpose of rigging elections.

He said, “An Oil Surveillance Contractor, Kodjo and his thugs acting at the behest of Chief Timipre Sylva have sacked the mobile policemen and the civil Defence men that were sent sent in to maintain order in Bassambiri,

These people have dug a military type of trench and are mounting illegal road blocks with barricades and stopping the police and the civil Defence operatives sent to maintain order in the community.

“They have been shooting all these days scaring and driving every person who is not their supporter away from the community. So thousands of people are IDPs now in Yenagoa in Yenagoa and Ogbolomabiri.

“Their aim is to keep every person who is not supporting APC out of the community so that they can have an opportunity to produce fake results; so that they can write figures as they did, and sadly, you have the military working with them.

“The mobile policemen and the civil Defence have been driven away at the behest of Sylva who has turned Bassambiri to his illegal.”

Cleopas called on the Federal Government and the relevant security agencies to intervene in the tense security situation in Nembe Bassambiri where thugs backed by soldiers attacked PDP members to cart away election materials to Dairus Hotel for thumb-printing.

The PDP State Chairman called on the Nigerian Army High Command to deploy a fresh set of soldiers to Nembe and Brass Local Government Areas insisting that the current set of soldiers had been compromised to tarnish the image of the establishment by aiding criminality and electoral violence in Bayelsa.

The PDP Chairman expressed shock at the fact that the Army has not been able to arrest any of the APC thugs who have been shooting and harassing innocent people in Nembe Bassambiri.

He said it was rather shocking that the men of the Nigeria Army had commenced a process of harassing innocent members of the PDP with a view to perpetrating low voters turn out to the detriment of the party in the area.

According to him, soldiers were sighted discussing with an APC thugs who led people to break into the residence of a PDP Stakeholder in the area, and former former Commissioner for Special Duty, and later Water Resources, Chief Kuroghofa Walter Benwari.

He called on the security agencies to ensure that the PDP members who fled Bassambiri during the attack by thugs aided by soldiers in Nembe Bassambiri are allowed to their residences without harassment.

However, the PDP Chairman commended the leadership of the Nigerian Police for the bold decision to arrest the masterminds of the abduction of the Deputy Commissioner òf Police in charge of Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad, Mr. Kola Okunola during the last election.

He called for immediate prosecution of the people that abducted Okunola and almost beheaded him before he was rescued by the whiskers for refusing to accept to manipulate result in favour òf Sunny Goli and his thugs.

Cleopas stressed that only such a step would restore the people’s confidence in the security agencies whose image is badly scathed by the events of the last election.

BAYELSA GOVT RAISES ALARM OVER WORSENING SECURITY SITUATION

...BLAMES OPPOSITION LEADERS FOR RECENT UPSURGE IN CRIME

...SAYS IT WILL CHALLENGE MOVES TO TRUNCATE THE PEACE OF THE STATE

The Bayelsa State Executive Council has condemned in strong terms the worsening security situation in the state, occasioned by the frequent change of Police Commissioners.

The State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson stated this in Yenagoa while briefing the media on the outcome of the council's 99th meeting.

He said the erratic deployment of security operatives across the country, ostensibly for political reasons in opposition states like Bayelsa "calls for serious concern and demands the need for urgent action to be taken to address the situation".

Iworiso-Markson stated that in the last three months, Bayelsa has had eight commissioners of police which is very worrisome and called for caution.

The Government spokesman said they view the action as highly subversive, capable of threatening the existing peaceful, harmonious, united and conducive environment the Restoration Government has worked so hard to put in place, which has also ushered in rapid and massive development in the state.

He said: "Indeed, it is an act of subversion bothering on treason for security heads to give control of security agencies to former governor Timipre Sylva, the junior minister of Agric, Heineken Lokpobiri and their cohorts who are using the ruling party at the centre to undermine the security of the State.

"This is more so that these persons are known to have criminal tendencies and are clearly working with criminal elements and cultists in the State. To this end, we wish to state as follows: That there is a lawfully and legitimately constituted government in place with a mandate to ensure and provide for the security, safety and stability of the State, and as such, we will not condone or allow anybody, no matter how highly placed, to get away with acts of subversion.

"We, therefore, call on citizens of our State to be wary of the subversive tendencies of some persons, who have all in the name of politics, set out to create and carry actions, that are intended to undermine the security and stability of our State.

"All Bayelsans must be at alert and be ready to reject the return of the deadly "Operation Famou-Tangbe" in whatever guise, shape or form. We will also not allow Operation Doo-Akpo which was created by the Restoration Government and which has in the last 7 years earned the respect, trust and confidence of our people as a reliable, professional, quick response and credible crime fighting outfit devoid of politics to be rubbished by anyone.

"Those who want to terrorize our people should set up their own crime fighting outfit like they did with "Operation Famou-Tangbe." But on our part, we will continue do all in our power to keep our state safe and secured"

"We wish to sound a clear note of warning to all, that in the interest of peace, even as the elections draw near, that this State is bigger than every one of us and nobody, no matter how highly placed, will be spared from facing the wrath of the law, if found wanting.

"Those who are interested in taking control of the state by seeking to undermine the security should be ready to face the consequence of their action should there be any breakdown of law and order".

The Information Commissioner called on the political leadership and other key players in the nation's political space to give the requisite attention to the sustenance of peace that the state government has enthroned and avoid acts that could truncate it through subversive means as shown in the incessant deployment of Police chiefs.

He stressed that the exploitation of state security apparatus to harass and intimidate perceived political opponents is not healthy for the state, saying it is simply a display of excessive use of political power which will be challenged by the state overnment.

The mouthpiece of the Bayelsa State Government equally called on the Federal Government and the heads of all security agencies in the country to respect the authority of the State Government and refrain from doing anything that will jeopardize the peace, order and stability of the state.

While also calling on Bayelsans to be law abiding and peaceful even in the face of provocative actions by those said to be enemies of peace and stability of the state, the Commissioner expressed profound appreciation to youth groups, the leadership and members of the State Vigilante and Volunteer Service.

He also commended community leaders and other stakeholders for rising to the challenge and apprehending criminal elements who are out to destabilize the state.

According to him, Governor Seriake Dickson will formally convey the position of the government for the umpteenth time to President Muhammadu Buhari for appropriate action just as it will commence appropriate legal actions to defend the authority of the government of the state.
PoliticsEngage In Constructive Issues Commissioner Tells Pdp Social Media Crew by moibayelsa(op): 4:18pm On Dec 01, 2018
Ahead of the 2019 general elections, a call has gone out to social media practitioners in Bayelsa State to be more industrious in carrying out their duties.

The State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson made the call in Yenagoa when members of the PDP Social media team visited him in his office.

He described social media as the fastest means to disseminate information which according to him has made it the most compelling source of information all over the world.

He however decried some of the negative effects of social media which he noted is due to wrong application and charged the Bayelsa PDP social media team to be very objective and factual in their work.

Iworiso-Markson who lauded the leadership of the party for the appointment said those in the team were carefully selected because of their pedigree, diligence and dexterity in the social media industry.

He reminded the PDP Social media team that the coming election will be another litmus test and cautioned them against abusive tendencies but to engage members of the opposition on issues that has to do with the achievements of the restoration government and the party.

According to him, he will be working closely with them to ensure that the same feat achieved in the last general and governorship election is achieved.

While congratulating them on their appointment, Iworiso-Markson asked the team to start profiling the candidates of the PDP in the coming elections so that Bayelsans will know their prospective representatives.

He stated that those who are contesting under the party have a track record of performance and will not fail if given the opportunity to represent the people in the National and State House of Assembly.

Iworiso-Markson stressed that what Bayelsa need are people who can sustain the legacies of the restoration government of Governor Henry Seriake Dickson.

He said in seven years, the government has made huge success in turning the state from a once rural enclave to a place that is now an investor's paradise because of the revolution in education, health, infrastructure, security and so on.

"Let me thank you for this visit. I was glad when I heard of your appointment and i want to sincerely thank the leadership of the PDP in the State for given all of you this unique opportunity.

"Clearly your job is cut out. You need to hit the ground running. The social media is like the main thing now. It is fast gaining more popularity and acceptability than the traditional media because of the speed at which information through it goes viral to reach billions of people across the globe.

"We are now in an election season and a lot of things are required of you. You need to use your position to advance the course of the restoration government. What you should be doing is to engage the opposition on issues like performance. They cannot performance our performance, not in a million years. So put out the truth, the facts about our performance so that the world can see.

"You don't need to abuse anybody. Our achievements should speak for us. We did this in 2015 and we will replicate it in 2019. We have said this election will be a referendum on the performance of the Restoration Government especially for all our candidates running on the ticket of the PDP-led government in the State. I will be working closely with you to ensure that together we move in the same direction. So very soon, I will organize a situation room right here in my office. I will also invite social media experts to meet with you to talk to us on social media trends that will help to further guide you".

Earlier, Director of the PDP Social media team, Mr. Perekebena Okoyen said the visit is to enable them familiarize with the Commissioner as the Head of the state media team and official speoksman of the government.

Okoyen who praised the Commissioner for his high level of professionalism and uncommon approach to issues said they will be pleased to be under his counselling throughout the period leading to the main election.

He described the Bayelsa PDP Social Media team as a grassroot movement targeted to work with all youth groups, organizations and volunteers in the eight Local Government Area in order to mobilize massive support for the party and her candidates.

Okoyen maintained that the team will as part of its campaign show the incontestable achievements of the restoration government in all the sectors which has made Bayelsa a leading state.

He appealed for support and encouragement from critical stakeholders in the state for effective delivery of their mandate.

PoliticsIworiso-markson To Bayelsans: Use 2019 To Retire Failed Politicans by moibayelsa(op): 2:06pm On Nov 19, 2018
The Bayelsa State Government has again made it clear that it would not surrender the state to failed politicians who are desperate to return to power through the back door.

The State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson stated this in Yenagoa on Friday.

He said it is highly regrettable that those who failed to develop the state when they had the opportunity are now attempting to teach Governor Seriake Dickson governance, when indeed their scorecard has remained zero.

Iworiso-Markson said they have launched series of coordinated attacks including playing politics with security in order to discredit the Dickson led administration but insisted that they have failed and have been rejected.

According to him, majority of Bayelsans cannot forget in a hurry the level of insecurity, underdevelopment and large scale human rights abuses during the last government.

The government spokesman went further to challenge them to list the projects they successfully executed during their time in government or forever remain silent.

He noted that if the billions they recieved in the over five years they spent in office was not frittered away, Bayelsans would still have been celebrating them but their past has made them strangers and enemies of the people.

The Information Commissioner added that their daily frustration, pain and shame is the way Gov. Dickson has made governance simple through prudent utilization of public funds.

Iworiso-Markson further added that the restoration government is not surprised neither is it worried about their new campaign against the world class airport built to open the state for economic prosperity.

He said if not for their constant amnesia they wouldn't have forgotten in a hurry how they spent billions of naira on survey and sand filling works only, on an airport project that till date remains the biggest scam by any government.

The mouthpiece of the state government maintained that if not for the political party they belong to, which has the notoriety of shielding looters of public treasury, they would have been cooling their heels in jail.

"It is saddening that some expired politicans who have fallen out of favour with Bayelsans will be questioning the economic viability of the Bayelsa International Airport. This is the same thing they did in the past about the Ogbia/Nembe road.

"This diaspora politicians had the opportunity of building an airport but did not and rather used the money earmarked for it to siphon billions of naira. Today, they stay wherever they are outside the state to criticize this government that has done so well.

" I feel pained that Bayelsans are not asking them questions. Most of them don't even have houses here, they can't boast of any investment but take delight to run down the government. Another election is coming and they are beating the drums of war".

The Commissioner appealed to youths in the state to resist the temptation of being used by the self-seeking politicans to perpetrate violence during the election, insisting that no blood must be shed on account of the ambition of any politician.

He said the government is fully aware of their plans to recruit agents of destabilization to cause confusion in the state ahead of the election but assured them that they will fail.

Iworiso-Markson called on Bayelsans to keep rejecting them, saying next year's general elections is an opportunity to finally retire them from politics.

PoliticsAPC Colluding With Cp To Destabilize Security In Bayelsa - PDP by moibayelsa(op): 1:10pm On Nov 19, 2018
APC LEADERS RELOCATE TO POLICE COMMISSIONER’S OFFICE IN BAYELSA
...APC COLLUDING WITH CP TO DESTABILIZE SECURITY IN BAYELSA - PDP

The Office of the Bayelsa State Police Commissioner, Mr. Joseph Mukan, has become an annex of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has said.

The Bayelsa State PDP Chairman, Hon. Moses Cleopas, said in a statement on Sunday that the leaders of the APC in the State have now turned the office of the Police Commissioner to their operational political base.

Cleopas lamented that the office of the Police Commissioner which is critical to security maintenance and the preservation of state stability could be so tainted with political bias in Bayelsa.

The PDP Chairman said that the conversion of the office of the Commissioner of Police to the security wing of the APC was the first manifestation of the political mission of the CP, Joseph Mukan, in Bayelsa.

According to him, the opposition APC, in its desperation for political control in the state has started to collude with the Police Commissioner to weaken the security apparatus in the state for selfish political purposes ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Cleopas asserted further that the unholy alliance between the CP and the APC had culminated in an upsurge of cultism in the state.

He said that the action of the Police Commissioner was not unexpected as he was sent to the state to prosecute a dirty political assignment which he stressed would be resisted by the Bayelsa people.

While stating that the Inspector General òf Police has the right to deploy his men, Cleopas queried why Mr Joseph Mukan had been posted to head Bayelsa State Police Command for a record three times, if there was no ulterior motive.

Cleopas posited that effective security in a state was a product of collaborative efforts among the heads of the various agencies and the Governor who is the Chief Security Officer of the State, which Joseph Mukan’s activities have negated.

The PDP Chairman said that a police commissioner whose posting was influenced by the APC and who identifies with the publicity apparatus of the party could not be trusted with the security of Bayelsa.

He said, “We made it clear to Nigerians a few days ago that this particular police commissioner was posted to Bayelsa to intimidate PDP supporters to join APC, destabilize the security and stability of the state for political purposes ahead of the 2019 elections.

This unholy alliance, he stressed is fueling the upsurge of activities of cultists who are mainly APC members.

“Since he was posted to Bayelsa State, his office has become an annex of the APC headquarters as members of the party have relocated to the command to plan how to destabilize the state by weakening its security.

“Nigerians should Note that this particular CP has been transferred to Bayelsa State for the third time, and we as a party wonder why this particular CP out of the many in this country is the preferred commissioner for Bayelsa?

“The last time he came he was accommodated by APC leaders in Abuja and Yenagoa, Former Governor Timipre Sylva and the Minister of State for Agriculture, Hen. Lokpobiri.

“To us as a party, it is clear that Joseph Mukan lacks the essential ingredients of impartiality required for effective policing in a state like Bayelsa with a multi party identity.

“What Bayelsa needs is effective security which the Governor has made a priority from inception, not a police commissioner who takes directives from politicians.”

... as Guild of Editors Conference kicks off in Delta State

As the 2019 general elections draw near, a call has gone out to media practitioners in the country to help sustain the nation's democracy by not heating up the polity with sensational and inciting reports.

The call was made in Asaba the Delta State capital by the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson at the commencement of the 7th All Nigeria Editor's Conference.

The conference which has as its theme: Credible Elections, Sustainable Democracy and The Nigerian Media will end on Sunday.

Iworiso-Markson told journalists on arrival in Asaba, that the media has a responsibility to defend the country's fledging democracy and the coming election is another litmus test.

He charged the media not to allow desperate politicians who are seeking power at all cost to use their medium to create tension and chaos in the country, saying that will result in anarchy that may give room for another military intervention.

The Bayelsa Government spokesman also urged media organizations to give equal opportunity to all political parties in course of their campaigns, to allow for a sense of belonging for all the parties.

He said: "In less than four months the elections will be here. And because of their critical role, the media must not abdicate its responsibility otherwise we will have a problem in our hand that we can't solve.

" The democracy we are enjoying today was strongly fought for and the media was part of the fight, so they must work to defend and sustain It. The coming election will be another opportunity to do so. We must not allow politicians who think more of themselves to ruin this country. We must not allow that.

POLITICAL CLASSROOM

If we must get it right, we must vote leaders who are knowledgeable in legislative matters to deliver the dividends of democracy.

PoliticsPOLITICAL CLASSROOM "Legislative Business Is Not A Tea Party Affair.”by Ekperi by moibayelsa(op): 3:53pm On Oct 09, 2018
It is expected that every aspirant should have a knowledge of what lawmaking is all about.

But sadly enough, nepotism, favouritism, handpicking, selection, and imposition of candidates continue to deny us an opportunity to vote for the right candidate who possesses a good knowledge and understanding of legislative matters.

In Nigeria, election results in both direct and indirect primary election do not reflect on the general will of the people. Thus the masses are tossed and instructed in most cases to vote for a particular candidate, who knows nothing about legislative responsibility.

The adverse effect of the aforementioned is that, we end up cramming the chambers with dull representatives, put differently, bench warmers.

It is important to note that legislative business is not a "Tea Party Affair!” it requires knowledge and understanding of what lawmaking and oversight responsibilities are all about.

In developed countries, people do not vote men and women with no clear understanding of the function of legislature. This is to avoid the burden of training newly elected members for weeks or months of special training as the case may be.

Hence, the idea behind the campaign for “political classroom” is to inform the public and the aspirants vying for public office that adequate knowledge is required to make better laws, better policies, better programmes and take effective actions that will foster progress and development.

In Western democracy, leaders are selected based on opinions, suggestions, write-ups, ideas and contributions on national issues. People then decide to pull out resources to purchase forms for candidates and also take up campaign responsibility (these being voluntary support from the people).

If we must get it right, we must vote leaders who are knowledgeable in legislative matters to deliver the dividends of democracy.

PoliticsThe Leadership Challenge In Nigeria: Averting The Brinkmanship By Bazitei Samuel by moibayelsa(op): 3:46pm On Oct 09, 2018
One of the building blocks of national development is centered on the commitment of leadership to consciously transform a nation. The passion to create a new world for the people is what truly defines quality leadership. The desire to leave the people better than their former state is a leadership trait worth exhibiting.

Over the years, leadership that would chart the course of national development has been quite elusive in Nigeria. Political leadership is supposed to provide the dynamo that powers every sector of our economy and national life. It is apt to say that we have been over-shortchanged in this respect of political leadership.

The alarming rate of joblessness, poverty, income inequality, tribal and religious sentiments can not be stymied except we elect a detribalized and purposeful leader whose heart for the people is untainted.
We need political leadership that will manufacture the steam and produce the heat that will fire up our economy and launch us onto the path of accelerated growth.

We must of necessity make hay while the sun shines, else we push our nation into the brink of collapse.

Averting the brinkmanship is a collective responsibility. The scourges of social and economic ills faced by our nation do not discriminate between familial ties, religious leanings and whatever primordial sentiments we harbour; they affect every Nigerian.

It is better late than never. The time is fast approaching, let’s pool our strength together to wipe out incompetent and purposeless leaders in order to salvage our nation from further descending

PoliticsVisionary Leadership, the Surest Pathway To Development By Bazitei Samuel by moibayelsa(op): 3:16pm On Oct 03, 2018
The foundation of every successful nation rests upon quality leadership. In the words of Warren Bennis, "Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality.” This exemplifies the fact that as a nation aspires to progress from one level to another of development, leadership must provide the thrust and will power to attain such a state.

Visionary leadership gives direction and inspires confidence in the people. The hope of a people is given assurance by virtue of visionary leadership.

Unarguably, Nigeria has suffered crisis of qualitative leadership which attendant consequences reverberate round our economic and sociopolitical life.

The endemic poverty, teeming unemployment, ethnic sentiment, high income inequality, political instability etc are all products of bad leadership.

It is apt to say that the correlation between bad leadership and underdevelopment is so strong and positive.

We have failed as a people in our recruitment and choice of leaders who are not supportive of national growth and not attuned to the changing realities.

As the world goes digital and ideas are constantly evolving to create and recreate a new world, we cannot as a people condemn ourselves to always play catch up .Proactive and purposeful leadership with the mindset and capacity to pull us out of this doldrum is what we need.

The clamour for visionary leadership in this period of political transition is the best time to effect leadership change where necessary.

Voting sound leadership is a collective responsibility of our people. Let us not be shirking such responsibility, as the saying goes, "As you make your bed, so you lie on it.”

The great future of our country lies in having leaders who can harness our resources for development and galvanize support from the majority of our people irrespective of tribe, religion, gender etc.

Electing visionary leadership is a task we must achieve
PoliticsThe Need For Competent Leaders-by Lovely Ekperi by moibayelsa(op): 2:49pm On Oct 03, 2018
Over the years, one major challenge hindering our path to democratic sustainability, is the inability of the masses to vote for competent and credible leaders that will initiative development and people oriented policies, programmes and projects.

As we draw close to 2019 elections, it is needful to bear in mind that only credible leaders can guarantee sustainable development for Bayelsa State and Nigeria at large.

I therefore urge the electorates to vote for only leaders whom they have profiled to be good enough to represent them in various positions in government.

All the legacies we have achieved in the last six years will amount to nothing, if we fail to vote the right set of leaders into power. Government should be seen as a continuum, hence there is need to ensure that stakeholders do not influence the outcome of the election, by allowing friends and cronies to emerge as party flag bearers.

Again delegates should ensure that they are not influenced by money but to vote out of a good conscience. As bribery & corruption will only hinder the policy focus and direction of the government now and in the future.
