Several reports have claimed Davido bought his hit single “Aye” from Runtown. However, the fast rising indigenous singer has come out to debunk the claims.

Domot singer said, “Davido has had a number of interviews where he addressed how the song came about. So if you want to learn more about Aye ask David or read his interviews.”

The singer when asked further if he sold the song to Davido retorted, “The first time I heard about that, I felt it was nobody’s business to raise issues like that. I know we are in Africa and people like to ask questions, but it is certainly not my business.

“Maybe the song sounds like something I would have done myself, perhaps that is why people are saying so.” He said.

Ingredients

1.8kg white puna yam
A handful dry fish crumbs (aja azu)
A handful ukpaka (shredded oil bean)
1 tablespoon ground crayfish
1 big stock cube
Salt & pepper (to taste)
A handful well-washed bitterleaves
Water
1/2 teaspoon Ogiri Igbo (castor seed paste)
Palm Oil (enough to colour the food)

Before you cook Yam Porridge

Peel and cut the yam tuber into medium cubes. Rinse the yam cubes and place in a sizeable pot.

Grind / Blend the pepper. Grind the crayfish. Set these aside.

Pick out the bones from the fish crumbs and rinse the fish.

You will be using washed and squeezed bitter leaves with no trace of bitterness so make sure this is ready.
When rinsing bitter leaves for Bitterleaf Soup, I usually set aside the tiny pieces that settle at the bottom for use in this traditional Yam Porridge. See video below. If you only have the long strands, cut them into pieces before using them in this recipe.

Cooking Directions

Set the pot with the yam cubes on a stove. Add the dry fish crumbs to the yam cubes.

Add ukpaka, crayfish, stock cube (crushed), pepper and bitter leaves. Try and distribute these on the yam cubes as you add them.

Pour water to just under the level of the yam cubes in the pot and start cooking on high heat.

When the contents of the pot boils very well, add the Ogiri Igbo and enough palm oil to give the Yam Porridge a nice appetising colour.

Cover the pot and continue cooking till the yam is well done and the surrounding liquid is beginning to thicken.

Add salt if necessary and stir very well.

Cover and cook for 2 minutes and it's done.

Today being the 29th day of Ramadan, Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar, has urged Muslims nationwide to look out for the new moon of Shawwal.

The Sultan, in a statement by chairman, Sultanate Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, said: This is to inform Muslim Ummah that Saturday 26th July, 2014, equivalent to 29th day of Ramadan 1435AH, shall be the day to look for the new moon of Shawwal 1435AH.

Muslims are therefore requested to start looking for the new moon of Shawwal on Saturday (today) and report its sighting to the nearest district or village head for onward communication to His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Saad Abubakar 111 CFR, MNI, the Sultan of Sokoto.

May Allah (S.W.T) help us in the discharge of this religious duty.

Ingredients

For 5 big scoops of vanilla ice cream, you will need:

500mls fresh milk (not evaporated milk)
250mls whipping cream
6 egg yolks
60g sugar
2 tablespoons vanilla extract or 1 vanilla pod

All these ingredients can be purchased from supermarkets all over the world. If you are in Nigeria, look for them in big department stores like Shoprite.
For decorating the ice cream

Honey
Caramel
Fruits

Utensils and Equipment

Freezer
2 Bowls: 1 should be big enough to accommodate the ice cream mixture, the other should be big enough to accommodate the first bowl.
Spatula
Pot
Ice cream spoon (optional)

Before you make the Vanilla Ice Cream

Make a large quantity of ice cubes. This will be used in cooling down the ice cream mixture in Step 8 below. I usually make at least 30 ice cubes for this.

If you will be using a vanilla pod, cut it open by slicing along it to expose the seeds.

Break the eggs and separate the yolk from the egg whites. For ice cream, we need only the egg yolks.

Directions for Vanilla Ice Cream

Pour the fresh milk and the whipping cream into a sizeable pot.

Add the vanilla extract. If you are using a vanilla pod, add everything (seeds and fibre) to the milk and whipping cream in the pot.

Start cooking on medium heat.

While waiting for that to boil, whisk the egg yolks very well. Add the sugar and mix well.

Once the contents of the pot start to boil, reduce the heat to very low. If you added vanilla pods, remove the fibre from the milk at this time.

Once you see that the milk is no longer foaming so much (due to the reduced heat), slowly add the egg yolks to the milk, whipping cream and vanilla mixture. Stir till well incorporated.

Increase the heat to medium and stir continuously till you notice the solution thickening. This should take about 10 minutes.

Once you are happy, place the ice cubes into the big bowl and add some water to them. Pour the ice cream mixture into the smaller bowl and place this bowl into the ice water bath. Stir the ice cream mixture continuously (with a spatula) till it cools down completely. You may need to watch the video below to see how I did this.

Place the bowl containing the ice cream mixture in the freezer. After 30 minutes, bring it out, stir very well with a spatula and place it back for another half an hour. Then bring it out and stir again. Repeat the process till a creamy solid is formed. It is important to stir very often because this prevents ice from forming in the ice cream. Depending on your freezer, this process takes between 3 and 5 hours.

Once you are happy with the texture of the ice cream, serve and decorate with honey, caramel and/or fruits.

If you have any left overs, put in a container, cover and place in your freezer till whenever. When you take it out of the freezer, it may appear rock solid unlike the ice cream purchased in the shops. All you have to do is leave it on your kitchen counter for 5 to 7 minutes or till it softens to ice cream texture before serving.

The Miss Global Nigeria Pageant took place at the Havilla Events Centre , Victoria Island yesterday … and I attended the event not just to bring you only pictures but hot gist..

The event was well attended, I ran into my classmate from University.. Haven’t seen her since we graduated from school.. We spent some time to catch up on old times, it was great reliving our University days.. The event kicked off at about 7pm with the appearance of the MC’s Tee A and Tina Akinola.

Some of the celebrities who attended the event were Toyin Aimaku Johnson, Mercy Aigbe Gentry, Chidi Mokeme, Korede Bello, Halima Abubarka and so many others.. The contestants came out to do a theme song which was dedicated to the Chibok girls. I think that was a nice touch, they then came out in their corporate wear. Usually you don’t see that in pageants rather you’d see contestants come out in bikinis. However, when contestant no 2 came out in her corporate wear with a makeup stain (brown powder) on it and it was so obvious. (I am just saying what I saw oo) then they came out in their evening wear. Their dresses were not bad at all. Beautiful dresses by Needle Craft and it fit all of them well.. You know me, if the dresses were not nice I would tell you.

Contestant no 9 made a mistake by coming out before she was called but she was smart enough to quickly go back. The girls were nervous though! You could tell from their voices when they came to describe their traditional attire… Really, it’s not easy to face crowd oo! One thing I liked about the event was that some of the contestants came up to showcase their talents..

Contestant no 9 tied gele for a girl right there on stage and she tied it well, contestant no 7 performed one of her songs on stage, contestant no 11 danced to Kcee’s ‘Pullover’ , contestant no 6 sang ‘Beautiful’ by Frank Edwards while playing the guitar, contestant no 15 did the Indian dance, the guests loved her performance.. Contestant no 5, 7, 9,2,1,3,10,8 and 6 made it to top 10.

The selection by the judges didn’t go down well with the guests because they felt contestant no 16 did well. In fact, Toyin Aimaku left the event in annoyance .. I heard her say ‘ This is rubbish, I’m leaving’ people were surprised at her but I think someone was able to calm her down. She came back few minutes later. Like I was saying, the guests were not pleased with the selection of the top 10. That caused an argument for about 5minutes and one of the judges was asked to explain how they came about the selection.. We were told that they performed some tasks while in camp and the score for that was 60 while the judges were to score the girls based on 40 marks at the event…

Kanye & GQ aren’t strangers when it comes to working together however. Ifeoma Umeokeke-Okoye is thankful to Nigerians for their support and well wishes.

She posted the ‘Thank you’ message on her Instagram page this morning and gushed about her husband, Jude Okoye.

“Jude is officially mine. He is handsome, awesome and all shades of amazing. Thanks to everyone who came all the way to witness this great and special day and all your kind and thoughtful words… I don’t know where to start…but God will grant each and everyone one of you all your heart desires. We are indeed grateful! We go on and on,” she wrote.

A mother and her two pregnant daughters have all been left tragically widowed after their husbands died in a plane crash in California on July 6th.

The three husbands, Doug Symiczek, 49 (centre), Kyle Parton, 29 (left), and Jacob Griffiths, 32, (right) were on a small private plane when it crashed into a mountain in California. The men had taken a morning flight to enjoy breakfast at their favourite cafe but on their way back home around 9am, the single-engined plane got in to difficulties and crashed in to a nearby mountain & exploded on impact. The National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully tamed the Nollywood star, Tonto Dikeh, when they threatened her with jail term over a post and picture on marijuana the actress put online, which generated controversies these few days. Tonto Dikeh was forced to deny posting the words and pictures even though it was done on her own platform. Tonto regretfully took to twitter to advice her fans to stay away from drugs and marijuana, which she reportedly earlier encouraged. She wrote today, “All the best. Do some good things this month (July) and Say No to Drugs and of course, weed (marijuana).”
