It's never easy for a lady like Linda Ikeji to acquire such gigantic wealth. She should not only be happy but be careful of those kidnappers and armed robbers. However, I pray that they will never see our precious and valued Linda. |
An explosion has reportedly occurred today, February 2, outside the venue of a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign rally in Gombe State. The bomb is said to have exploded outside a stadium along Abubakar Habu Hashidu Road a few minutes after President Goodluck Jonathan left the scene. The device was planted in a tricycle station about 200 meters from the stadium, according to Sahara Reporters. Jonathan was earlier forced to cancel his campaign in Yobe State due to security concerns. It is not yet known if there were any casualties from the latest incident.

Facts emerged, yesterday, suggesting that Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, was grappling with problems which may have compelled it to postpone the February 14, 2015, presidential election, had the National Security Adviser, NSA, Colonel Sambo Dasuki, not publicly called on the electoral body to consider the option of postponement. This is authoritative. Sunday Vanguard was made to understand in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, that the INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, had summoned an emergency meeting of Resident Electoral Commissioners, RECs, penultimate week, to review the Commission’s preparedness for the election, as well as look into areas requiring urgent attention. Conscious of legal latitude, INEC was said to have called an emergency meeting to review its operations on Monday, January 26, 2015, with the notice sent out a week earlier, based on the executive assessment of readiness for the election by its Board. The assessment by INEC’s Board had identified some challenges with meeting deadlines and was going to share it with the wider body of policy implementers who also had their concerns based on their field assessment on the level of preparedness. Given this background, all the Commission’s stakeholders were shocked to hear the NSA make reference to possible postponement without consulting with the electoral body. And whereas an INEC insider disclosed to Sunday Vanguard that “but for the statement of the NSA which they claimed gave a colouration of politics to the issue, INEC was possibly going to make its own independent adjustment to the time-table, to avert a repeat of the postponement of election after already deploying personnel and materials as was the case in 2011 when there was a shift from 2 April till Thursday the 4th and again shifted to the 9th of April – that postponement was necessitated by the failure of contractors to meet supply schedules”, another source within the Commission made Sunday Vanguard to understand that indeed the NSA may have been doing his job innocently, “the Commission Chairman was already adamant just as was the case in 2011 when the nation was sent on a wild goose chase only to return to the path of sanity by eventually postponing the election”. The latter source further insisted that the NSA with his bird’s-eye view of the security situation in the country may have just attempted to try to try to shield the Commission from public opprobrium regarding the laxity to effectively distribute PVCs since last year by pre-empting the issue of postponement. Sunday Vanguard was made to understand that that issue is still one of the key challenges identified by the INEC Board assessment. Another technical problem that is emerging include the fact that although the electoral body, on its part, has placed orders for the production of ballot papers, it was restrained by the legal window which was tied to the outcome of the party primaries and the window for substitution of candidates which only terminated on December 30, 2014. After the primaries and substitution were done, the Commission had to compile the outcomes and confirm with the parties, as indicated by development of January 26, 2015, which saw INEC, through a press release, dropping some parties candidates for not meeting the legal requirements of Section 187 of the constitution, with reference to nomination of running mates for the gubernatorial election. By that development, it was clear that the Commission’s final list of parties involved in the election and their candidates was only just being finalised, and therefore “the Commission could not have ordered for definitive ballot papers without such crucial information”. “Taking the latter development into account”, the usually dependable INEC source continued, “it means that the production of the ballot papers was only just ordered. This is a process which is outside the full scheduling control of INEC. Caught between legal constraints from the Electoral Act and Constitution, as well as the technical challenges from contractors engaged with the production of ballot papers, result sheets, electoral forms and envelopes that are currently being customized, to enhance the fidelity of the process, and the inability of politicians to move them from one polling area to another, INEC is currently faced with a heavy burden to meet the February 14 date, without organizing a shambolic election”. President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, charged the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Attahiru Jega to ensure that all eligible Nigerians who registered to vote are provided with their permanent voter’s registration cards. Speaking while swearing in a new national Commissioner of the commission, representing Oyo state, President Jonathan said no Nigerian should be disenfranchised because of his inability to get the PVC. Professor Jega, who was also present at the swearing in of the new commissioner promised that every eligible Nigerian would be provided with a PVC before the next month’s general elections. According to President Jonathan the huge interests shown by Nigerians from all walks of life in getting their voter’s card was an indication that confidence is being restored in the electoral process. “Nigerians are getting worried whether INEC can actually conduct elections because of the PVC. Talking about the PVC, even some governors are complaining that they are yet to get their PVC. If governors are yet to get their voter’s cards, of course that means that so many Nigerians are yet to get and people are a bit worried. “But to me I’m quite pleased, not pleased in the negative sense, but because of the awareness that has come on; that Nigerians want to have their voter’s cards. In 2011, no Nigerian will complain about voter’s card and that’s why when some politicians talk I just laugh. Before 2011 how many Nigerians complained about not having voter’s card because elections were not conducted with voter’s cards. Nobody cared, we are all adults in Nigeria and we knew what was happening.

Zobo drink is another one of Nigeria’s popular drinks, you have absolutely nothing to lose but so much to gain for taking a chilled glass of zobo Nigerian drinks. The health benefits are immeasurable, although this depends on the ingredient you used while preparing it. I would personally recommend just natural ingredients; instead of synthesized pineapple flavor you can go ahead and use real pineapples. You may want to read the comment below before you actually try this zobo recipe, few person experienced soured taste when they used lots of pineapple, they agreed that pineapple flavor is better than actual pineapples when it comes to making zobo drink. By the end of this article you would have learned how to make zobo, the popular Nigerian tasty drink. I never really liked zobo until I learned about its nutritional values, it is one of those drinks that are made with purely natural ingredient, just like the fruit juice, you wouldn’t require any artificial ingredients or coloring in most cases. I had a taste of this drink for the first time at Bori Camp Portharcourt, those days in secondary school; I visited a friend who happened to come from Yoruba – the best makers of the Nigerian zobo drink. I can’t tell much about the origin of this drink but I know that the Yorubas are the major producers. I think they even have zobo soup, Hausa women also make tasty zobo, the people of Igbo are just beginning to learn about this wonderful drink Here is how to make zobo in Nigeria, you will learn about all the ingredients used for making zobo and also why I prefer this above many other drinks. With the quantity of ingredients below you will be able to make about five liters of zobo. Preparation time: 30mins | Serving: 8 to 12 persons You Will Need Zobo Leaves (medium bowl full). Ginger (4 to 5 medium sizes). Sweet Pineapples (medium size) or (foster Clark’s Pineapple flavor). Sweetener or sugar to taste (optional). The standard zobo drink can be made with just three ingredients – the zobo leaves, choice of flavor and ginger but as you already know, the zobo have a somewhat sugary taste, most people chose to add few cubes of sugar. But if you have enough of sweet pineapples, go ahead and avoid any extra sweetener or sugar, this is exactly how I like it  The foster Clark’s pineapple flavor is a synthesized pineapple flavor, if you decide to use it then you would need to avoid any other form of sugar or sweetener, it would add the needed sweetness because it already contained sugar. There are several other flavors for making zobo, foster Clark’s pineapple flavor is just one of them; you will find them in any Nigerian market, . How to Make Zobo Hand-pick every unwanted substance from the zobo leaves and then proceed to wash and start cooking with about 5 liters of water. But be careful so you don’t wash away the original nutrient, don’t soak before washing, just pour few liters of water, wash and transfer into the cooking pot. Cook for about ten minutes before you add the ginger, you can chop them into tiny bit or grind with a kitchen blender. Do the same to the pineapples, what you need is just the pineapple juice, you can squeeze out the juice or slice the pineapple to tiny bits and also add to the cooking pot. If you don’t have enough sweet pineapples you can add few cubes of sugar but if you don’t have pineapples at all, you can buy foster Clark’s pineapple flavor and use few drops, it already contained sugar. Cook for another ten to fifteen minutes before you taste the zobo, if it does taste alright then filter and refrigerate. That is how to make zobo, its easy right? Zobo is one of the popular Nigerian drinks, it is easy to make and can be made in under 30 minutes. Serve chilled with your favorite snack. Zobo as a drink have innumerable health benefits that I can’t even begin to mention. Ginger which is one of the ingredients for this popular drink is known to improve heart and sight conditions. The ongoing controversy sparked off by the call by Enugu-based Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka that the electorate should vote out President Goodluck Jonathan in the February 14, 2015 presidential election has taken a fresh twist. Hitting back at Mbaka, National Coordinator, House-2-House Network, a pro-Jonathan group, Prince Chidi Ibe, alleged yesterday that the priest was angry over his inability to secure oil blocks in the Niger Delta region. But a socio-political group in South-East, Ndigbo Unity Forum, defended Mbaka, while berating Anglican Bishop of Enugu, Rt. Rev Emmanuel Chukwuma, over his outburst. Speaking in Abuja, Ibe said Mbaka, who, only a month ago, blessed the aspiration of President Jonathan to return to office in 2015, was now singing a new song because he was not happy with the government over his inability to secure oil block for commercial purpose. He said: 'Ordinarily, I will not reply when a clergyman has his own views, but I can categorically tell you that Father Mbaka has travelled severally in quest of oil block in Nigeria. I know he has not succeeded and I know that he is not happy that he is not getting it. So, has he been promised oil block by Buhari to categorically stand at the Adoration Ground and said Goodluck is a bad luck to Nigeria. 'I will not sit down and have Nigerians believed that Father Mbaka said because God sent him to say it. If he has never in his life stepped out to look for oil block from government such as that of Goodluck Jonathan and people that surrounds Jonathan, I would say, yes, he probably heard from God that the good luck he mentioned to Nigerians a month ago has now become bad luck to all Nigerians.' The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, John Oyegun, has described as laughable, the raging controversy that the party’s presidential flag bearer, Muhammed Buhari, does not have a school certificate. In an exclusive interview with PREMIUM TIMES Monday, Mr. Oyegun said the matter should not even be discussed as it shows how petty the nation’s politics has become. “I would like to quote (Olusegun Obasanjo) who said, ‘I dey laugh’, to answer your question because it is laughable that it should even be an issue of discussion,” Mr. Oyegun said in response to questions on Mr. Buhari’s certificate controversy. “You know the military and you know how they progress from one rank to the other and the several training courses they have to go through in some of the best institutions in the world. “Even if somebody said he didn’t have Standard Six Certificate, he rose through the ranks, through qualifying examinations to become what he was in this country.” The APC chairman said that questioning Mr. Buhari’s educational qualification after he had served as Nigeria’s Head of State showed how unserious and petty politics has been reduced to in the country. Reminded that the law has stipulated the minimum educational qualification for those seeking elective positions in the country, the APC chairman responded in the affirmative. He, however, noted that the law not only stipulated the minimum qualification but also provide for the equivalent of such qualifications to be tendered. Continue at http://chriseze..com

BRUSSELS — The European Union on Saturday warned that the apparent incursion of Russian troops on Ukrainian soil pushes the conflict closer to a point of no return, with new economic sanctions being drawn up to make Moscow reconsider its position. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, who briefed a summit of the 28-nation EU's leaders in Brussels, said a strong response was needed to the "military aggression and terror" facing his country. "Thousands of the foreign troops and hundreds of the foreign tanks are now on the territory of Ukraine," Poroshenko told reporters in English. "There is a very high risk not only for peace and stability for Ukraine, but for the whole peace and stability of Europe." French President Francois Hollande and Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt said upon their arrival for the summit in Brussels the leaders will make a political decision and then ask the EU's executive arm to finalize the fine print of new sanctions. However, because several EU nations fear the fallout of sanctions on their own economies, it wasn't immediately clear whether the required unanimity would be reached for immediate punitive measures, or whether the leaders would set Russia another ultimatum. But Lithuanian leader Dalia Grybauskaite insisted Russia's meddling in Ukraine, which seeks closer ties with the EU, amounts to a direct confrontation that requires stronger sanctions. "Russia is practically in the war against Europe," she said in English. More at http://chriseze..com

Stoke City are ready to offer Nigeria international Peter Odemwingie a new contract. The striker might not be fit again to play this season after injuring his cruciate knee ligament in August, but the Premier League outfit are willing to keep him longer. “There’s something in place, I think, so we will have discussions nearer the time,” Stoke City’s manager Mark Hughes told Stokesentinel. “We’d like to think he would get back before the end of the season. He might not make it, but even so he’s working exceptionally hard to make it. “He knows he has to work really hard. With that injury you need to do the work now so that he won’t be compromised when he comes back. Odemwingie also spoke about the injury, which he suffered during a famous win against Manchester City at the Etihad and his recovery process. “I have just started running outside, which is a massive step for me. From now onwards hopefully things will accelerate a little bit for me,” he said. “In terms of the minimum period I was told I would be out for, I am just over half way through that now.”

Indications emerged on Sunday why the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) was initially keen on fielding a Muslim/Muslim candidate for the 2015 presidential election. Despite the fact that its former member and one-time Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode raised an alarm on the issue earlier in 2014, top APC chieftains still tried to sell the idea which was rejected by many Nigerians and even APC members. APC national leader and former Lagos State governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, his successor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, former Federal Capital Territory Minister, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the party’s presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (all Muslims) among others, at one time or the other, insisted there was nothing wrong with same-religion ticket.

A man identified as Mr. Philip Katongu., who hails from Nasarawa state, has been arrested by the operatives of the Department of Criminal Investigations, Yaba, Lagos for stabbing his wife to death. According to reports, his late wife Justina was stabbed in three places in their home at Oniru Estate, Maroko, Lagos. In his statement to the police, Katongu explained that his reason for killing his wife was because she had infected him with HIV. He revealed that he tried to commit suicide after killing his wife, but neighbours forced their way in and immediately rushed him to the nearest hospital. “I married Justina, in December 2010. I later learnt that she had given birth to two girls for a man. The girls died of AIDS. “However, when we first met, she did not tell me all these. I explained to her that I have a wife with children and I wanted to marry her too. Before marriage, I told her we should go to hospital to conduct HIV test, but she refused and said that she was HIV negative. So we started sleeping together.” “I was angry and told the doctor who equally blamed her for not disclosing it to me. The doctor then tested me, and I was positive. We came back to Lagos and continued with the relationship because I loved her. But suddenly, she told me she wanted to pack out from my house that she was no longer interested in marrying me having had another person in Abuja. In fact, the man usually called her on phone while we were together.” he disclosed “I told her that with her status, she should not go and be infecting people with the virus. And that I will kill her and kill myself. We started fighting and I stabbed her. It was in the early hours. I stabbed her three times with a knife. She shouted and people were knocking at our door. After she died, I stabbed myself, and the people broke the door open. I woke up to find myself in a hospital. I feel very bad that I killed my wife. I loved her very much.”

A Nigerian nurse who treated a man with Ebola is now dead and five others are sick with one of the world's most virulent diseases, authorities said Wednesday as the death toll rose to at least 932 people in four West African countries. The death of the unidentified nurse marks the second Ebola death in Nigeria, and this worries health experts as it is the Africa's most populous country and Lagos, where the deaths occurred, one of its biggest cities. The growing number of cases in Lagos, a mega city of some 21 million people, comes as authorities acknowledge they did not treat Patrick Sawyer as an Ebola patient and isolate him for the first 24 hours after his arrival in Nigeria last month. Sawyer, a 40-year-old American of Liberian descent with a wife and three young daughters in Minnesota, was traveling on a business flight to Nigeria when he fell ill.

The Ebola outbreak in West Africa is spreading faster than efforts to control it, the World Health Organization head, Dr. Margaret Chan, has said. She told a summit of regional leaders, including the worst-affected countries – Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone – that failure to contain it could be “catastrophic” in terms of lives lost. Chan, however, added that the virus outbreak, the world’s deadliest and largest in terms of geographical areas, could be stopped if well managed. The WHO head used the occasion to announce the launching of a new $100 million (N17billion)Ebola response plan. “This meeting must mark a turning point in the outbreak response”, Dr. Chan said at the summit in Guinea’s capital, Conakry. “Cases are occurring in rural areas which are difficult to access, but also in densely populated capital cities”. Ebola, a disease that has killed over 700 persons, spreads by contact with infected blood, bodily fluids, organs – or contaminated environments. Initial flu-like symptoms can lead to external haemorrhaging from areas like eyes and gums, and internal bleeding which can lead to organ failure. Ebola kills up to 90% of those infected, with patients having a better chance of survival if they receive early treatment. More at http://chriseze..com

Posters bearing the images of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal and his Deputy, Emeka Ihedioha as President and Vice Presidential aspirants were Saturday seen in most major streets of Abuja, the Nigerian capital. Although, both men are members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the posters carry the logo of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC. Reacting to the development via a statement, media aide to Tambuwal, Imam Imam, said the Speaker had nothing to do with the posters. He further advised those behind it to respect the warning on political campaigns by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. “While we thank them for deeming us fit for elective office in the country, let it be known that since the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not given the go-ahead for those interested in elective positions to start mobilisation, it is inappropriate for any person or group to print campaign posters and have them placed in strategic areas all over the country,” said Imam. “Laws of the Federation are meant to be obeyed by the high and mighty. The Honourable Speaker will make known the direction he will take with regards to his political future at the appropriate time,” the statement added. More at http://chriseze..com

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has said it will field a strong presidential candidate that will unseat the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the 2015 election. The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Lai Mohammed, who stated this while speaking with Punch, said Nigerians would not give President Goodluck Jonathan another four years in office. Mohammed spoke on the party’s preparations for its primaries. According to the schedule of activities for the 2015 general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission, October 1, 2014 has been set aside for it (the commission) to make public the notice of elections. Speaking on the party’s readiness ahead of its primaries, Mohammed said, “When the time comes, we will make public the date for our primaries, as well as modalities for them. I can assure you that our primaries for all elective offices will be conducted transparently like we have always done. “I have no doubt in my mind that our party will present acceptable candidates for all elective offices, including that of the President. “Who eventually emerges as our candidate, will, by the grace of God, defeat this corrupt and incompetent PDP-led administration in a free and fair election. “You will agree with me that an overwhelming number of Nigerians will not pray for another four years of the present administration” he added. Popular Yoruba Actress, Omotunde Ogundimu, who has been off the movie scene for a while now, is presently battling with fibroid. According to reports, the mother of three needs about N500,000 to undergo surgery to have the fibroid removed. Recounting how the problem started, Omotunde told Nigeria Films thus: “I noticed it last year before my husband passed away. Anytime we had intercourse, I would always bleed. I took it for something else, so I didn’t really pay attention to it. But when he became sick and we couldn’t have intercourse any more, it (the bleeding) stopped. Then, I didn’t have time to study it at that period too. “But what I noticed is that my menstrual circle changed, so I would menstruate twice in a month with very heavy flow. So, at that time, I just felt it was one of the signs of menopause because I am way above 40. But last year, I had to go to the hospital to complain and the doctor said I had fibroid, even before the tests and scan were conducted. When the scan was done, it was discovered that the fibroid was fully grown in my womb,” she explained. Soliciting for help, the Actress admitted that she doesn’t have that kind of money because she has been single-handedly taking care of her three children who have been in school since the demise of her husband.
