*MEETING A COUNSELOR*

Meeting a counselor concerning matters of life is usually a serious mind battle. There is the contemplations of how will he see me after our discussion? Hope he won't make the world see my unclothedness? And what if he doesn't have the answers to my problems?These concerns are largely found when a counselee seeks to meet a counselor.

When people seek to meet a counselor on certain issues of their lives, they usually have premeditated answers to the issues. All they need is someone to confirm their supposed answers/solutions.

Having said that, let's compare this with what happens in the medical setting. When a doctor who's supposed to treat an injury by leaving it open after cleaning, to remove the possible germs that might attack the injury, decides to cover the injury so that he can keep his patient in hospital for more than 2 months in order to increase hospital bills. His medically ignorant patient sees him/her as the professional and believes he knows his job. However, when another doctor does it the proper way, the patient tends to see that doctor as quack. This same thing happens when a counselee seeks the help of a counselor.

Seeing a counselor however requires that the counselee should:

-- Open his mind to advice

-- Remove any premeditated solution/answer

-- Open up to the counselor

-- Guide the counselor to help identify the problems and a possible way to solve them

-- Filter what is said by the counselor and choose the most realistic ones

-- Not expect the counselor to say exactly what he/she has in mind.

In the end, what a counselor is happy about is that the advice eventually worked. *Everyone needs someone to talk to*. Even a counselor has a counselor. Life's problems are better shared with one who can keep one's secret. Meet a counselor today if the matter bothers you so much. Don't contemplate suicide
