The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal office, in the early hours of today May 11th, arrested over 12 suspected internet fraudsters in the Ikoyi area of Lagos.

The EFCC operatives stormed the popular Club 57 on Awolowo Way, Ikoyi, where the suspected “yahoo yahoo boys” were rounded up, following intelligence report.

While some of the suspects abandoned their exotic cars to avoid arrest, some others put up resistance, thereby turning the environ into a war-like zone of sorts.

However, a total 10 cars were recovered from the suspects during the raid that lasted about three hours.

The suspects will soon be charged to court when investigations are concluded…

Four boys who sold leaked WAEC exam questions arrestedThe operatives of Rapid Response Squad have arrested four suspects in Ondo, Edo and Osun States for retailing leaked WASSCE May/June, 2018 Examination question papers on websites and whatsapps platforms.b

The suspects namely; Samuel Kayode, 28-year-old from Ondo State, Adebayo Ifeoluwa, 17-year-old from Osun State, Alayande Ahmed and Elusode Festus, 20 years from Edo State were all arrested in their respective states. Samuel Kayode, a part time teacher in two secondary schools based in Ilesa, disclosed that he also taught Physics and Mathematics in a private tutorial class where he assisted candidates who are planning to write the WASSCE examination with questions and already prepared answers for the candidates.

According to Samuel, after working as a tutorial teacher for seven years, he got a part-time employment in two private schools in Ilesa, Osun State, where he also helped students preparing for WASSCE with leaked questions and prepared answers, adding that he did this to make a living.

“I got a part-time teaching job when I couldn’t secure a Government teaching job after graduating for NCE and couldn’t settle for the little salary I’m been paid by my employers, so I decided to help myself with what I have been doing as a tutorial teacher by helping lazy students source for WASSCE examination question and answer via some online platforms that deal in the illegal business.

After registering candidates in their various centers, I then liaise with some anonymous people who we call ‘Web Masters’. The Web Masters have insiders in various examination boards in the country with leaked questions paper and buy such from them”, he explained.

“There are many websites operated by the Web Masters, where leaked WASSCE questions and prepared answers are sold to subscribing candidates. Some of these websites include; www.examloaded.com, www.guruscamp.com, www. ceebook.net, www. Solutionclass.com and www.expotab.com.

They also hawk NECO, GCE and JAMB examinations papers with answers”, he stated.

He explained further, “the contact person on Web master is called ‘Dan’ who doesn’t pick calls but only deal on text messages and WhatsApp messages. Mr. Dan usually sell answers via WhatsApp or issues a quick login password that can be issued on the website and immediately redirect the user to the page where the already prepared answers are.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) in a statement released on March 4, says at least 78 people have been confirmed dead and 353 are infected in an “unprecedented” outbreak of Lassa fever in Nigeria. Here are three(3) important things you must be aware of, to stay healthy.

What is Lassa Fever?
Lassa fever is an acute viral hemorrhagic illness, endemic in most of West Africa, especially Nigeria, where it was discovered in 1969. Symptoms can be mild or severe, including hemorrhaging in the gums, eyes or nose.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the disease is transmitted to humans through contact with food or items contaminated by multimammate rats — or through contact with bodily fluids from an infected person.

Mortality Rate
On average, Lassa fever is deadly in 1% of all individuals infected, with higher rates of 15% morbidity among people hospitalized with the illness. According to an NCDC report from March 4, the case fatality ratio in the latest outbreak was 23.8%.
Sixteen health workers were infected of whom four died within eight weeks of this outbreak.

When You Have Symptoms Of Fever Go To a Health Care Facility
The NCDC has said the country was facing an “unprecedented outbreak” as the disease has spread to 18 states since it began in January. According to Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, director of the NCDC, many of the cases were self-managed and not tested at the onset because the illness was thought to be malaria, a disease endemic to Nigeria and whose symptoms mimic Lassa fever. Therefore, those with symptoms of fever should “go to a health care facility in order to get a test that will determine the cause of the fever.”

This should be good news to all fresh and existing students of the prestigious University of Lagos. If developments in the University on Thursday and Friday 28th and 29th of December is anything to go by; then activities can be said to have resumed in the University.

For example on Wednesday when a handful academic members of staff were deployed to the Dean of Student Affairs Office for clearing them for hostels they were first opposed by Unilag local branch of Non Academic Staff Union (NASU), however, on Thursday they resumed fully. On Friday students were seen on queue being attended to in large numbers and some have even cleared to move in fully come January.

We have also got it from good source that the University has decided to pay a meagre fraction of the money owed the non academic staff while awaiting the bulk from government. Suffice it to say that the timetable for screening of new students from UTME and DE are being planned alongside all departmental lecture timetable for Undergraduates and Postgraduates students alike. By the timetable students are expected to be fully settled by third week of January.
