Career / What Would You Advise Nigerian Youths That Have Just Finished Studying Abroad? by mrabalogu(m): 10:04pm On Jul 22, 2015
Basically I met a well established Nigerian Lawyer that is somewhat into Nigerian politics and is well connected in Nigeria and I asked him for a little advice, which is: “What would you advise Nigerian youths that have just finished studying abroad?

He said: “After studying you should come back to Nigeria!!!

I was quite baffled with that reply and first off I’m not going to compare the minimum wage btw the uk with that of Nigeria.

fyi: min-wage UK = £16K per annum
Nigeria = N552K per annum approximately £1725/annum

I definitely didn’t agree with him and gave him a breakdown of how one can survive on the UK’s minimum wage £16,000 i.e £1,300 per month. With that £1,300 you can have £1000 every month for every expense you have to cover and save £300 every month!. And then he said my stats was very “unproductive”! what?

His Explanation:
He basically asked me where I am from, which I replied “Anambra” in the Eastern part of Nigeria.

Lawyer : “Imagine you coming back to Anambra and you get a job where you get N100,000 per month i.e N1.2 million a year, you can build a 3 bedroom house in less than 3 years and live a very sustainable life“ ( don’t forget we are not using minimum wage )

I am not saying that he is wrong but I cannot say his stats is as productive as mine that would save up £300 every month and get £3600/annum which is approx N1.2million and can save that up and still buy a house and still live a very comfy life.

Please I would love my fellow Nigerians both ones that have studied in Nigeria and in the UK to tell me what they think about this??
