Facebook ads are great for leads if you know what you are doing. However you have to convert those leads to paying customers which is very hard. Best thing is to start with Google ads then move over to Facebook as time goes on. At least with Google there's intent with Facebook there's none.

and you don't have to convert leads from Google ads to paying customers? And what do u mean by intent? I'm afraid that's vague.

Nah... To get anything meaningful on Facebook you have to spend a lot on ads. Their cpc is freaking high now. Only recommend for those with the budget, those starting out on advertising should go for solo ads.

I understand why you feel so. It is true that their cost per click is high now. But most beginners make the mistake of immediately running traffic ads without first building a base, hence the CPC issue. This is the best strategy for beginners: build your business page first. Run a specifically located targeted reach campaign for a while, then run an engagement campaign for page likes, and your copy should not be too salesy. Then you are aligning yourself with the algorithm.
One other mistake is in the targeting. Most marketers are lazy. They don't put in the work of stalking their potential customers. There are social engineering tricks that can help you steal paying customers from successful campaigns that most people do not know about, so they end up targeting the same audience many other marketers like themselves are targeting. That audience is beat and bored. So expect them to ignore the ad, even if they are in the interest. They are seeing ads like urs everyday!
So I maintain the opinion that Facebook ads can still be viable for new businesses if done right.
