EducationASUU Strike: NANS Blocks Highway In Port Harcourt In Protest by mrniceguyuc(op): 6:50pm On Sep 10, 2013
TRAFFIC flow along the busy East-West road was stalled for more than one hour around the Choba junction, on the outskirt of Port Harcourt when students of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) took over the road in protest.

The students, under the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) were protesting the prolonged industrial action by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

One of the leaders of the protest and a representative of the NANS, Jonah Adokiye, bemoaned the effect of this face-off on Nigerian students. He stated that the lingering strike action had driven the average Nigerian student to resort to crime, thereby increasing crime rate in the country.

He also said that the strike action will prolong the stay of students in schools, which will also attract extra cost as students would be compelled to pay school fees based on the number of years they stay in school.

"The strike is taking its toll on the Nigerian student, you can only imagine what a lot of Nigerian students had been forced to get involved in as a result of this time waste. That is not to talk about the fact that our time is being wasted as this strike continues. We are not happy about this situation, hence this protest", Adokiye said.

SportsManchester United Appoints David Moyes As New Boss by mrniceguyuc(op): 6:18pm On May 09, 2013
Manchester United Board unanimously approves the recommendation of Sir Alex Ferguson decision to give the job to David, 50, who has been the Everton manager since 2002 to become the new man utd boss for the next six years.
Announcing his successor,

Sir Alex Ferguson said:

“When we discussed the candidates that we felt had the right attributes we unanimously agreed on David Moyes. David is a man of great integrity with a strong work ethic. I’ve admired his work for a long time and approached him as far back as 1998 to discuss the position of Assistant Manager here. He was a young man then at the start of his career and has since gone on to do a magnificent job at Everton. There is no question he has all the qualities we expect of a manager at this Club.”

Sir Bobby Charlton said:

“I have always said that we wanted the next manager to be a genuine Manchester United man. In David Moyes, we have someone who understands the things that make this such a special club. We have secured a man who is committed to the long-term and will build teams for the future as well as now. Stability breeds success.

“David has tremendous strength of character and recognises the importance of bringing young players through and developing them alongside world class talent. At United, I think David will be able to express himself. I’m delighted he has accepted and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Ed Woodward, said:

“In David Moyes, we have secured the services of an outstanding manager who has all the skills to build on the phenomenal legacy in place today. I have no doubt that he will bring an energy and commitment to deliver winning football that is part of the fabric of this Club. In this respect, he is cut from the same cloth as the Old Trafford greats who go before him.

“I have been very impressed by David’s personal and managerial traits, which reflect the Manchester United values. I have no doubt that he will embrace, and soon become an integral part of, United’s unique culture and heritage.”

Joel Glazer said:

“I am very pleased David has agreed to lead Manchester United into the future. His hard working style and steely determination are characteristics we value at the Club. He has impressed as a coach for many years now and we strongly believe he will be able to take up from where Alex is leaving off by continuing this Club’s tradition of flair football played by exciting, world class players.”

SportsOnly Mourinho Has The Clout To Succeed Ferguson At Man Utd by mrniceguyuc(op): 6:29pm On May 08, 2013
Me, myself and i, together with the football world have been taken by surprise regarding the announcement that Alex Ferguson is to step down as manager of Manchester United at the end of the season after 27 years at the helm.
The flabbergasted news prompted tributes from all quarters and a welter ofspeculation about who will take over from the most famous manager in world football, particularly as it was also revealed on Wednesday that Jose Mourinho's return to Chelsea had hit a snag.

The Daily Mail reported that the Special One's "sensational move back to Chelsea could be on hold - paving the way for him to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United".

It explained that Blues owner Roman Abramovich had baulked at the buyout clause in the Real Madrid manager's contract. "The news will have special significance at Old Trafford, with Sir Alex Ferguson having ended his glittering 27-year reign at Old Trafford".

Eurosport claims that Mourinho has the right attributes to take over. "Putting aside footballing concerns or the nature of the club, he is quite simply the choice that would make most sense to global stock markets - and that, ultimately, will probably tip the balance in his favour," it explains. "He also has a good relationship with Ferguson, who is sure to have a big say in the naming of his successor."

Everton boss David Moyes remains the bookies' favourite to succeed Ferguson with odds of just 11/10. But not everyone believes the Scot is the right man for the job. Moyes would be the nearest thing to a "like-for-like replacement" for Ferguson, says Eurosport, but adds: "There's a huge difference between running a relatively impoverished club and running the world's most valuable sports franchise."

SportsSir Alex Ferguson Retires: Finally, The Whistle Blows On Fergie Time by mrniceguyuc(op): 6:03pm On May 08, 2013
It’s like the death of Mrs Thatcher all over again. The end of an era. A temporal shift. A stopping of the clocks.

Which in Sir Alex’s case is appropriate. Over the course of his career the clocks stopped on numerous occasions; usually at Old Trafford when his side were trailing by the odd goal.
The laws of physics were occasionally suspended as well. Like the time United were awarded a goal even though they’d had four players standing in an offside position when the ball was played.

But this is churlish griping. His achievements speak for themselves. The titles. The doubles. The historic treble.

Here was a born leader of men. In fact, a moulder of men. Few managers could both identify, and bring the best out of, such disparate characters as Eric Cantona, David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo or Wayne Rooney. Fewer still could defy nature, as he did with his ludicrous elongation of the careers of Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes.

Ferguson had his faults. He was often exposed tactically, most notably in the 1999 Champions League final against Bayern Munich – when he got away with it – and the duels against Barcelona in 2009 and 2011, when he did not.

But his strength, unmatched by any of his contemporaries, was his ability to build a team infused with his own character. His greatest sides simply overwhelmed opponents with their pace and their power and their sheer hunger to win. The spectacle of them charging from box to box, in packs, was glorious, and terrifying to behold.

EntertainmentGhanaian Stars Join Sexiest In Nollywood Quest by mrniceguyuc(op): 10:31am On Apr 18, 2013
Since ‘Sexiest In Nollywood’ started in 2008 there has ne'er been associate inclusion of movie stars from different climes except from Nollywood.

The first 2 editions that had Genevieve Nnaji, Ini Edo and Mercy Johnson (for Sexiest woman 2008) and Jim Iyke, Emeka Ike and Desmond (for Sexiest Man 2008), then Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Genevieve Nnaji and Chika Ike (for Sexiest girl 2009) and Desmond Elliot, Chidi Mokeme and Richard Mofe-Damijo (for Sexiest Man 2009) ne'er had contenders from the Ghanaian movie industry, albeit there was continually request by members of the general public to possess the Ghanaians stars enclosed within the ‘quest’.

Since this edition started the requests never ceased to come. The argument of the enthusiasts is that since most of the Ghanaian stars feature in Nollywood films they ought to be enclosed.

They include:
Chris Attoh, Prince David Osei, Frank Artus, Jackie Appiah, Michel Majid, John Dumelo, Juliet Ibrahim
Lydia Forson, Nadia Buari
