Images that capture the moment members
of.the Suri tribe from southern Ethiopia
taking part
in a fighting ritual have emerged on the
internet .

Warriors are seen taking part in the ‘ Donga
’ , or stick fight , which has traditionally been
a way men impress women and find a wife.

They fight
with little or no clothing, and the violent
clashes sometimes result in death.
Battles usually take place between Suri
villages , which can consist of between 40
and 2, 500 people.

They are usually held after the rains , and
there are often 20 to 30 fighters on each
side , with tribesmen taking it in turns to
fight one- on-one .

Referees enforce a code of conduct – it is
against the rules to hit someone while they
are on the floor .

Stick fighting is a combination of martial art
, ritual and sport . As well as providing an
opportunity to attract a partner , the fights
aim to get young men used to bloodshed –
which
leaders believe comes in handy if they clash
with other tribes.

The Ethiopian government – in 1994 passed
laws to ban stick fighting , but the tradition
lives on.

Female members of the tribe, whom the
men are fighting over , have distinctive clay
discs inserted into holes in their bottom lip ,
which are
considered signs of beauty . To have the
discs inserted, their bottom two teeth are
removed before the hole is cut .

The larger the plate , the more cows the girl’
s father can demand in dowry when his
daughter marries..

Just 25 minutes of brisk walking a day can
add up to seven years to your life ,
according to health experts.
Researchers have found that moderate
exercise could halve the risk of dying from a
heart attack for someone in their fifties or
sixties .

Coronary heart disease is the UK ’ s single
biggest killer, causing one death every seven
seconds, and exercise has long been seen as
a way to reduce the risks by cutting obesity
and diabetes .

A new study presented at the European
Society of Cardiology ( ESC ) Congress
suggested that regular exercise can increase
life span.

A group of 69 healthy non -smokers , aged
between 30 and 60, who did not take regular
exercise were tested as part of the study at
Saarland University in Germany .

Blood tests taken during six months of
regular aerobic exercise , high -intensity
interval training and strength training showed
that an
anti -ageing process had been triggered and
helped repair old DNA.

“ This suggests that when people exercise
regularly, they may be able to retard the
process of ageing, ” said Sanjay Sharma ,
professor of inherited cardiac diseases in
sports cardiology at St George ’s University
Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in London .

“ We may never avoid be-coming completely
old, but we may delay the time we become
old. We may look younger when we ’ re 70
and
may live into our nineties .

“ Exercise buys you three to seven additional
years of life . It is an antidepressant, it
improves cognitive function and there is now
evidence that it may retard the onset of
dementia. ”

The advice from experts is that everyone
should do at least 20 minutes of walking or
jogging a day, given the sedentary lifestyles
and changes in diet that have contributed to
high death rates from heart disease .

Exercise can also improve brain functioning .
Exercise brings benefits at whatever age the
person starts . People who start exercising
at the age of 70 are less likely to go on to
develop a condition that leads to irregular or
racing heart rates in 10 per cent of people
aged over 80 .

“ The study brings a bit more understanding
of why physical activity has that effect, ”
said
Christi Deaton, Florence Nightingale
Foundation Professor of Clinical Nursing
Research at Cambridge Institute of Public
Health.

“ It helps us understand the process of
cellular ageing, as that ’ s what drives our
organ system and body ageing , and the
effects physical
activity can have on the cellular level.

“ The more active you are , and it doesn’ t
matter when you start , the more benefit you
are going to have. ”

Dressed in a sequined dress, Funke and her beau dressed in a suit, were at the premiere of the movie, “A trip to Jamaica” produced by AY the comedian.

The venue was the Filmhouse, IMAX theatre, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos. The movie featured Funke aka Jenifa.

According to Taiye Garrick, publisher of the Watchdog News, his members of staff were in Benin to carry out a survey of voters and report on early preparations of INEC ahead of the Edo governorship election. He said they were arrested at Douban Hotel in Benin, the Edo State capital.
Those arrested were Tony Abulu (Production Manager), Richard Hasley (Reporter), Opara Uche (Reporter), Handy Romeo Eze (Reporter), Kelvin Toryila (Video Editor), Lanre Ogunleye (IT associate), Balogun Ehigie (IT ), Kenneth Danpome (Head, IT), Mathew (Logistics Manager) and Joe Epi (Driver).

Garrick also claimed that they have been denied access to their lawyers.
The Army however released a statement signed by Spokesperson, Col. Sani Usman, stating that they were arrested for the possession of “quite a number of incriminating items including INEC sensitive materials.” Garrick also alleged that he has received a number of threats asking him to report at the SSS office in Abuja.
A number of journalists have been arrested this year, including freelance journalist, Ahmad Salkida and a blogger, Jamil Mabai who is still in detention for criticizing the Katsina State government.

A bizarre video has emerged online which
shows a man allegedly predicting a woman ’s future by touching her bre ast.

The footage is believed to be filmed in China
and has been shared on social media . The
eight -second clip was posted on Miaopai , a short-video sharing platform in China, on
September 8.

It was uploaded by a user named Xiao
Yuwen , who claims to be a travel
photographer from China’ s Yunan Province .
Xiao wrote in the
post :

‘ Fortune telling by touching the bre ast , this
man is taking great advantage. ’


In the short video, a bespectacled man can
be seen touching a woman’ s br east . The
man , who is believed to be a fortune teller , held a pair of crutches in the other hand.

The woman can be seen staring at him with
a puzzled face.

The pair were surrounded by a group of
people as the alleged fortune -telling was
taking place .

However , there was no conversation
between the fortune -teller and woman in
the video.
