The former President Goodluck Jonathan has disclosed what influenced his decision to concede the 2015 Presidential election to his successor, President Muhammadu Buhari. . RationalTV..com gathered that Jonathan said his decision to concede defeat to Buhari was informed by the fact that he was“inspired to lead by his conscience.” . Delivering a paper titled,“Conscience Based Leadership: The Secret to Global Peace and Security,” Jonathan recalled how he once declared that his “political ambition was not worth the blood of any Nigeria.” Shortly before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the results of the 2015 presidential election in 2015, Jonathan had put a call across to his successor, congratulating him for the victory and conceding defeat in the process. Jonathan said:“Since you specifically invited me to share my experience as a political leader and ex-president with the forum, I will, therefore, like to mention some of the things I did in office, to build a peaceful society. “I can confidently say that in all my public life, I was inspired to lead by conscience. This is in agreement with my personal philosophy which I first proclaimed while running for the office of the governor of my home state Bayelsa in 2006, and re-echoed when I ran for the office of the President of Nigeria in 2011 and 2015. . “Then, I made it clear that my political ambition is not worth the blood of anybody. Ever since I said that in November of 2006 in Yenagoa, capital of Bayelsa state, I have always lived by it. This philosophy informed my 12 decision to concede the 2015 Presidential election, even while the results were still being collated.” . Cc Lalasticlala Ishilove Semid4lyfe Obinoscopy Mynd44 . Babatunde Fashola, the minister of power, works and housing, said the construction should take about 72 months to complete. He said:''The memorandum from the ministry of power, works and housing was to the award of the Mambilla Hydro-Power plant. ''I believe that many of you have heard of this project. Nigeria started talking about it since 1972; that is about 45 years ago. ''Several efforts had been made to bring it to reality but I’m happy to announce that this government approved the contract today to joint ventures of Chinese civil and engineering company for the engineering and turn-key contract, including civil and electro-mechanical works for 5.792 billion dollars.'' The Nigerian government will provide the remaining funding—it is currently seeking $5.2 billion from the World Bank to expand power production and distribution. About three months ago, RationalTV..com reported that the electricity supply in Nigeria worsened when another system collapse happened in the power sector. The collapse was recorded on Monday, May 8, after a culminated and significant drop in generation transmission and distribution of electricity in various states across Nigeria. Chairman, caretaker committee of the PDP, Senator Ahmed Makarfi has picked holes on the war against corruption by the ruling APC. Guardian quoted Makarfi as saying Nigerians will see the level of corruption in the APC government when they leave power in 2019. He expressed confidence that the PDP will take over power from the APC in 2019, even as he promised that his party won't be vindictive. . His words:“We will be able to assess the APC government when they leave office. By 2019 when we take over, we are not going to be vindictive but the truth will prevail. “When they leave office, we will see what will come up. We will know whether corruption is something limited to one political party. We are not doing justice to the fight against corruption when we try to politicize it. “Take a look at the private sector, no politician has been tried or taken to court for anything near the alleged corruption of those the EFCC has charged to court. “Go to the private sector go to other the public service even some of the security agencies, but if you try to just narrow corruption to only politicians from the opposition parties, we are undermining the fight against corruption.” Makarfi also referred to a report from the National Bureau of Statistics which pointed out leading agencies or institutions on the corruption index are public institutions. “So if I say we should fight corruption we should not politicize it. Everybody has a role to play in reducing this to the barest minimum,”he added. Meanwhile, Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, has said the anti-corruption campaign of the federal government cannot be effective because of the inability of national institutions to act independently. Governor Wike made the comment during a courtesy visit by officials of Chatham House, The Royal Institute of International Affairs, United Kingdom, to Government House, Port Harcourt, on Wednesday, August 30. The governor stated that political influence has weakened the fight against corruption, stressing that it is difficult to fight corruption when the institutions are weak. . A pan-Igo grassroots sociocultural organisation, Imeobi Igbo said no amount of threat by Nnamdi Kanu, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), would stop November 18 gubernatorial election in Anambra state. The forum also said the problem in Igbo land has nothing to do with the conduct of election but marginalisation that Igbos are part of in the country, Nigerian Tribune reports. Mike Ikegulu-Onugha, its national chairman urged Kanu to take easy with his agitation. . Ikegulu-Onugha:''We respect Kanu’s enthusiasm but I don’t know what he has in mind for saying that there will be no election in Anambra state, he should soft-pedal. ''The referendum he is talking about will come one day and it is not by boycott of election that we will achieve a Biafran republic, rather, it will worsen our problem. . ''We will constitute a reconciliatory body to help move Igbo nation forward and for those who believe we don’t have a king in Igbo land they are funny because we have. ''This organisation has its tentacles in Igbo land and we will screen all the candidates when the time comes to know their antecedents''. . The chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Itse Sagay has said the security agencies should investigate lawyers who receive proceeds of crime as fees. On Tuesday, September 5, 2017 Sagay delivered a lecture in Lagos, entitled: ‘The many afflictions of anti-corruption crusade in Nigeria.' He said:“These SANs deserve the harshest punishment of all. Anti-graft agencies and the police must monitor and investigate the activities of lawyers who receive a share of the proceeds of crime as their fees. “The anti-corruption struggle is like a long distance race. It cannot be concluded overnight. The opposition is extremely powerful, using state resources to fight back. “What we are going to see is a progressive dismantling of the corruption infrastructure. Convictions will occur now and again, but there will be frequent forfeitures of looted funds and other types of property. Remove stolen loot from the culprit and his life becomes miserable.” He also said Nigerian lawmakers are in office for themselves and not the people. The PACAC chairman also said the legislators have resisted the fight against corruption by rejecting the right of the executive “to choose the persons who will spearhead that struggle”. . Sagay said:“Perhaps the most notorious example of the legislators’ resistance to the war against corruption is the rejection of the right of the executive to choose the persons who will spearhead that struggle. “The clear impression is created that Nigerian legislators are in office for themselves and not for the populace. “Not surprisingly, the national assembly has not passed a single bill for the promotion of anti-corruption war since it commenced business in July 2015. “The whistle blowers protection bill, the proceeds of crime bill and the special criminal court bill remain in a virtual state of stagnation. What evidence do we need to establish the hostility of the eighth Assembly to the anti-corruption war?” . According to Cable, he also said PACAC would push for the prosecution of bank chiefs who connive with looters to hide stolen funds. He said:“In my own little way, we are going to push for the prosecution of such bank chiefs. They must be prosecuted. “There is a gang-up of the of the powerful political, business and banking elite that is determined to frustrate the anti-corruption struggle.” He criticized the lawmakers, saying that United States President earns $400,000 per annum, a Nigerian senator earns over $1.7 million. . “The Whistle Blowers Protection Bill, the Proceeds of Crime Bill, and the Special Criminal Court Bill remain in a virtual state of stagnation. “What evidence do we need to establish the hostility of the Eighth Assembly to the anti-corruption war?”Sagay concluded. . A study by the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point and Yale University in the United States of America has revealed that 244 women or girls have acted as bombers for Boko Haram. According to elleuk.com, the report examined 434 suic*de bombings carried out by Boko Haram between 2011 and June, 2017. The United Nations Children's Fund came to similar findings while looking at 84 bombings by minors this year. The majority were done by girls, usually under 15. As Boko Haram lose territory and subjected to heavy attacks by the Nigerian Military, it's clear the insurgents are using girls and women to hit soft targets. . “It is definitely devastating. A gut wrenching feeling to think more and more women are being used as suic*de bombers. “They [terrorists] just want to instill fear in the community and ensure we are still aware of their power over us,”said Fati Gangaran, a young photographer from Maiduguri who documents ordinary life in the city. Boko Haram's use of female suic*de bombers first began after the kidnapping of the Chibok school girls in 2014. According to researchers, after the incident, the insurgents realised the ability of young female bodies to attract global attention. Quickly, the numbers of women bombers increased drastically. But those on the ground say there are other, more practical reasons to use women too. Bring Back Our Girls co-founder, Aisha Yesufu says the use of women for the group's activities is due to the fact that women are expendable. She said:“Women are easy targets and they are easily controlled, especially in the North-east of Nigeria women are not given much respect, they are not seen as equals and can easily be cowed into obeying whatever vile instructions are given to them. “They have been programmed to always obey. Keeping the women uneducated or half-educated ensures male dominance over them.” Meanwhile, the federal government has pledged to ensure the total de-radicalisation and rehabilitation of all ex-Boko Haram membersbefore re-integrating them into the society in line with international best practices. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin, made the pledge on Tuesday, August 22, in Abuja at a National Stakeholders’ Forum on Re-integration in the North-east organised by the Kukah Centre. .
