nurey: fuel pump kaput injectors clogged (diesel injectors are sensitive) Air in the system, priming things The mechanic working on it may not be too conversant with diesel engines
car is cheap because its diesel not because its faulty, i have seen a new VW beetle worth 1.2m sold for 600k because its beetle and nobody is interested in buying, i have seen tokunbo honda addidas europe of the accord 2001 sold for 500k tokunbo because its diesel.
Diesel cars a only bought by people who know the value so its hard to sell it as a dealer in Nigeria. this is where the opportunity comes in for you. A quick survey of two online classifieds sites reveals that diesel vehicles are not even a lot cheaper. Some I saw are even more expensive that their petrol counterparts. I noticed tho, that most of the Toyota brands have the same D-4D engine under. Secondly, I noticed they're mostly manual transmissions. Does the type of transmission have any significant bearing on the engine? |

Readonee35L: Mrtesso . First off I need to ask. Before i give advice how much is the cost of the car? . Thanks for coming in sir. The cost of the vehicle is significantly less than the cost of a tokunbo petrol variant or even a neat fairly used one. |

9icetoo: the engine in that avensis is very common. it shares that engine with corolla diesel and hilux. there are plenty diesel mechanics in pH. it is almost the same setup with petrol. I once tot I had an injector issue in my Skoda. it it turned out it was a collapsed diesel hose that wasn't delivering full flow to my injectors. I even made the diagnosis myself in my house. it was that simple. heater plugs may go bad once in a long while but they are dirt cheap and easy to replace. any mechanic can do that. even a petrol mechanic can do it. I don't understand the apprehension with diesels. in Ghana, half the cars there are diesels. in Europe, its almost three quarter. why naija case come different. You make it sound like a jolly ride. Do u by chance stay around PH, u said there are plenty diesel mechs. I don't even know one. I won't mind meeting one so I've forwarded a mail. That being said there are a lot of myths surrounding certain brands and types of vehicles in this part of the world, so don't blame us much for our ignorance. Coincidentally, on my way back on Tuesday i saw a diesel Toyota hilux used by someone I think to haul his/her belongings. that was about past 4pm. They said diesel finish inside, say mechanic dey come. I noticed the back of the vehicle seemed to have black sooth all over it. I longed to take pictures but it wasn't convenient. I stepped out again at 7pm the vehicle was there with the mechanics trying to start it up. I tried to initiate a conversation as a concerned passerby hoping to get acquainted with a mechanic. They seemed to be too frustrated to respond so gave them the customary "well done oh" and I passed. By 10:30pm it was there with no one around it. By 7am the follow morning it was there with more people around it. I'll have liked to ask what went Wrong but I was in much haste. I narrated that because you sound like it's quite an easy journey. What could have caused that over 12-hour delay to start up a vehicle? |

nurey: Also reliable too. Before you buy, talk to 9icetoo, he uses a Skoda diesel as an everyday driver and can fill you in on what to expect and how to take care of yours. Also I hope you know your mpg is around 49 even far better than a Kia picanto. You did be averaging 5L/100km combined.
Diesel isn't too complicated once you can get pass diesel quality and fuel line regular servicing also talk to cardoctor he fixes diesel engine I will do just as you've said ur highness. Money can't buy the insight I've received on here for free. God bless you immensely. |

abolore80: You seem like someone to me who pay attention to details, very observant, and like his car clean and in top form. I will advice you buy that car, if you wouldn't mind the extra difference in the price of diesel to fuel. However, the fact is that, the extra cost you will gain in other form. For instance, the full tank of PMS in that avensis can't take you to and from Lagos-Onitsha, while a full tank of diesel will do. It is fuel effiecient and reliable. Since, you have professed your likeness for the car, i will advice, you buy it and use it the way it it, you stand to gain and learn a lot from it than removing parts and passing wires and changing of so many parts. There are quite good diesel mechanics around you, look for a good one, you can always resolve any issue. Also, do a users review online and look for common or possible issues and there solutions. You can also help your mechanic with such information rather than doing guess work. The choice is yours, if you like the car, buy it and learn how to take care of it, you stand to gain alot as it is a strong and reliable car.
Don't bother yourself with the project of converting, you are likely to get your fingers burnt. if you want the car, buy it and use it in its pure form, you will enjoy it and its going to serve you very well. Even if you want to change engine, use it and let it serve you until it says am tired or you are tired, then you can change to full petrol engine. But i doubt you will want to do that after seeing its efficiency and reliability. Goodluck Words can't express how much I appreciate these. Thanks very much. May wit never depart from ur lips. God bless. |

nurey: Toyota D4D engine is quite comment in the hilux trucks, but anywhere you see the VW Caravelle, VW LT buses and opel/Renault the diesel mechanic is there just be observant and ask around.
Diesel injector is very sensitive 1st off issue is to buy clean diesel, clean you fuel tank at certain intervals and then replace the engine filter regularly.
If you are interested in buying this car, there are two people I know that knows about diesel well here
Cc 9icetoo and oktaiwan Thanks for the insight sir. I'm much obliged. Did u mean it's quite common? |

Specialist900: Oga op, abeg leave that car with that fine diesel engine. If you can certify that the engine is still in good shape, I see no reason for wanting to convert.
In the eastern part of Nigeria, so many of their commercial buses (Mitsubishi L300, Hyundai) runs on diesel. I've once seen here in Abuja a similar car used by a man but his is salon That's good to know. Bhet we're in Port Harcourt. The majority of Diesel vehicles I've seen used by individuals, seem to end up in one place - grave yard. The other few companies like Julius Berger and Nestoil that run Diesel powered sedans and wagons like the Skoda Octavia diesel and volks wagen diesel counterparts seem to have specialised mechanics working for them. That led to the conversion conception. But the majority opinion tilts towards retaining the engine. Thanks for the heads-up . |

abolore80: At the right and appointed time, someone who knows the value will find it. If you know the value as well, why do you want to abuse it in the first place? Apparently, I don't know how valuable diesel engines are. The essence of the thread is enlightenment, right? So if there are pros, and I'm sure as heaven that there are cons; issnor better for someone to just enlighten me? Its more like I'm going to the gallows for daring to want to attempt to think of trying to convert a motor from Diesel to Petrol. I wanna learn. I like the ride. That's why I had this thread created. Thanks for ur response. It's been helpful. But I refuse to be labeled a car abuser. I'm against vehicle abuse in all ramifications. |

abolore80: Please for God sake, leave this car in its pure form if you can't use it the way it is. look for the petrol variant instead. Leave it for somebody who knows the value to find it. what you don't know is that, this car with that engine will take you anywhere across Nigeria, very economical if you really know how to take care of it. As they say one man's meat is another's poison. You're right. Bhet the car have tayed there oh. It's evident on the appearance. Is it that people don't know the value? Cos it's been here long enough for someone who has value for it to find it. |

nurey: Only an insane man will ditch a Toyota D4D engine for its petrol variant siting the reason of mechanics not available.
If I had mind of buying car, I will just trick you in giving me the car location and I will buy it behind your back.
That D4D is a good engine you will regret later that you never bought it matted to a manual transmission baba 10years with good service that car will continue to faya like its on viagra Quite an interesting way to put it. Thanks. Bhet you did say good service will keep the car running 10years. However, The part of the world I'm based, reliable Diesel mechs are more difficult to find than it is to find Viagra. if you could further enlighten us on the maintenance requirements for diesel engines, i'll appreciate it a great deal. |

Greetings Gurus. All thanks to all the Selfless people who've made this section the enlightening department it is. God go bless una well well. It all started when I called Gazzuzz and made an offer for his Avensis Wagon after seeing the ride. The bros declined conceding to my offer, he said it was too poor. And shortly afterwards they went to help me and jam the car. Then I stumbled on this one... It's Tokunbo 2002 Avensis. It's neat albeit been parked for a long time at a car lot. It's 1.8L Diesel Engine•Manual Transmission•It starts•runs•drives. A/C, audio, seats all in tact. Most of the bottom is rust free. Basically I wanna Know how feasible it is to convert from Diesel to Petrol engine plus including the cost implication. I wanna know who's willing to pick up the gauntlet. I admired the automatic transmission I tested earlier so I'll love to have the transmission converted too. I sent Mr Gazzuzz pictures and sought his opinion. He said conversion is possible, but he declined the job, giving valid reasons for doing so. He recommended I create a thread here since there are elders who would be more keen on undertaking this kind of project with me. So here we are... I'm yet to make payment for the vehicle. If it's worth it, certainly will. I'll upload photos as network permits. cc. Kingreign, Gazzuzz, Diportivo, nurey, aieromon, timifakay and the rest of them bosses. I don't know everyone by their moniker, my apologies. Kindly copy them.
