1. in Matthew 23v223, Christ did not endorse Tithes but rather he condemned the pharisees because they believed paying Tithes was more important than the other weightier matters of that God wish they attend to. the latter part of that verse says - these (weightier matters) ought he have done and not leave the other {one} undone.SUMMARILY, Tithes is not compulsory nor is a means to get blessings from God. Christ did not commended it nor preached/teach about Tithing because in Christianity, tithing is not tied to any blessing (under the dispensation of grace i.e new testament).
Also, all through the scriptures, it was never on record the any of the Apostles that God lead to plant a fellowship/church demanded/collected Tithes from the believers (Christians); this could be as a result of the fact that Christ did not practice such nor did he teach them to do such. in one the the letters (cant remember the book now) written by Paul to the church ,he said he would rather work than demand or exploit them by means of donation. Tithes is not also a means to get to heaven.

2, In Heb.7v1-8 this pastor quoted, Paul was tracing by means of teaching the genesis of tithes in the history of the scriptures. You treated verse 1-8 in isolation. Please read the whole chapter, i mean you should continue from verse 9 -28 and you will realized that Paul was against Tithes payment.Understanding a topic in the scriptures cannot and should not be treated in isolation to few verse. Paul{ the greatest church planter} was against tithes in his words and action. IN SUMMARY, TITHES IS NOT COMPULSORY IN CHRISTIANITY BECAUSE JESUS NEVER ENCOURAGED IT NOR TEACH IT.JESUS PREFER U ATTEND TO THE WEIGHTIER MATTERS THAN TITHING BECAUSE TITHING CANNOT LEAD ANYONE TO GOD NOR WIN SOUL.IF U FELT CONVINCED TO PAY, PAY IT IF NOT, YOU HAVE COMMITTED NO SIN AS LONG AS YOU FEED, CLOTH, SHELTER HIS SHEEP.
