Major opposition parties in Oyo state have adopted the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate,
Engineer Oluseyi Makinde, BBC Yoruba reports.
This is coming after the meeting which was attended by
the four governorship candidates, Senator Olufemi
Lanlehin (ADC), Seyi Makinde (PDP), Sharafadeen Alli
(ZLP) and Bolaji Ayorinde (SDP) in the presence of Ex-Governor Ladoja.
Recall that insideoyo.com had earlier reported that the
opposition parties in the state are planning a coalition
before the governorship candidate of the Action
Democratic Party (ADP), Otunba Adebayo Alao Akala
rejoined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). https://insideoyo.com/breaking-opposition-parties-adopt-pdps-seyi-makinde/ |
Few months after the swearing-in of President Buhari, one of my big brother who Is a card carrying member of APC confided in me that some of the gubernatorial aspirants in his party are already approaching him to seek for his support in Ekiti 2018 election. I told him not to waste his time, energy and resources on any other candidate but reserve them for Dr. FAYEMI because he will surely emerge as the party candidate. He argued with me at that time that JKF will not contest, however, he confessed to me the last time we met around February this year that ‘Oga’ will not only be contesting but will emerge as the party candidate. According to him, Oga has spent close to a billion naira in cash and gifts for party supporters between December and February this year alone (I strongly believe he is exaggerating though). True to his prophetic declaration, Oga became the last man to enter the contest for the party’s flagbearer and went on to defeat 32 other aspirants, including the people's favourite - Engr. Segun Oni. For good students of Ekiti politics, the emergence of Dr. John Kayode Fayemi (JKF ) did not come as a surprise. Even the Indomitable Lion of Ekiti politics Gov. Fayose clearly got the hint more than two years ago and has been throwing every potent salvo in his Arsenal to get a psychological Morior invictus victory from the minister. Infact, if anybody still harbours any doubt, the role JKF played in Edo and Ondo Governorship election would have cleared those doubts. Why the interest of our former governor in coming back to Oke Ayoba is an open secret, his methods and political strategy is what baffles me. For a man who failed to win in any of the 16 Local governments as a sitting governor, one would expect him to sit, reflect and come out with a better strategy this time around. Here, JKF did not need the service of any soothsayer to tell him his problem with the electorate. He can be telling the media and those living outside the boundary of Ekiti that the last election was rigged but in the sanctum sanctorum of his heart, I am sure he knows he has serious Image problem in the Fountain of Knowledge and land of honour. For a politician, image is everything. Perception is everything. The counsel of Virginia Satir that ‘we must not allow other people's perception to define us’ does not hold in politics, infact, the reverse is the case. All the knowledge, prejudice and reality of people is based on their perception about you. In his book 48 Laws of Power, Robert Greene describe it perfectly “so much depend on your reputation, defend it with your life”. Any politician that fail to learn that important lesson will not go far – infact, he is finished. Here is a man the teachers see as enemy, Local government workers named “Boko Haram” and civil servants consider a threat. Yet, he got his golden fleece as minister but refused to use his position to reconcile with the workers. Moreso, one would think it was politically expedient for him to resist the tag ‘Abuja politician’ but come home to build his grassroot support and reconcile with electorate and civil servants in particular. For instance, in his time as minister before the election year, he could have identified with teachers during their Annual World Teachers’ Day or celebrate with workers during Workers’ Day etc. The aforementioned gesture might not necessarily give him immediate boost but would have help him to redeem to some extent his battered and shattered image with them. As it is today, people will just see him as another perennial politician that comes to town during election like a scavenger to scramble for their votes. Since he has refused to do the basics, he will now have to sweat for votes while dancing to the beat of political ‘shaku-shaku’ from the electorates. The popular believe among his supporters is that he will use Money and Federal might to prosecute the election, but whether they can outspent a sitting governor or use federal might to make an unpopular candidate win an election in a state where people are well informed and adequately armed with their PVC, time shall tell. |
Brotherly, please I will appreciate it if you can send me a copy of the book through my mail mtimropo@gmail.com. Thanks in anticipation |
The chance of Lere Olayinka becoming the National Publicity Secretary of Pdp got a boost today as one of the vocal member of the opposition party Chief Femi-Fani Kayode (Ffk) took to his Twitter handle to declare Mr. Lere as the best candidate for the job. It should be recalled Lere is already enjoying the political machinery of Fayose, Mimiko, Sen. Kashamu among others from SW. With the latest development, Mr. Lere is now the candidate to beat

Fayose vows to lead opposition against APC APRIL 22, 2015 : KAMARUDEEN OGUNDELE, ADO EKITI Leave a Comment Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has vowed to lead a robust and engaging opposition against the All Progressives Congress in Nigeria, especially in the South-West. In a statement he personally issued on Wednesday in Ado Ekiti, the governor said he had become a “prime demolition target” of the APC national leadership because of his “overt and unalloyed support for President Goodluck Jonathan during the campaigns.” Meanwhile, women in Ikere Ekiti on Wednesday also issued a seven-day ultimatum to the 19 APC lawmakers to back down from the impeachment proceedings against Fayose or they would “invoke the gods” against the legislators. The women in their hundreds started the protest as early as 5am at Oke Oja Area in Ikere Ekiti and danced round the town while chanting anti-lawmakers songs. They warned that any attempt to impeach Fayose would spark violence in the state. A Senator-elect for Ekıtı North Senatorial district, Mr. Duro Faseyi, also warned the lawmakers. led by the embattled Speaker, Dr. Adewale Omirin, against setting the state on irredemable and catastrophic fire. In a statement made available to newsmen in Ado Ekıtı, Faseyı descrıbed the last-minute impeachment threat against the governor as “unnecessary vengeance and political error.” Also, the Ekiti Council of Elders has promised to summon Fayose and the 19 APC lawmakers to a peace meeting to end the lingering crisis between the executive and the legislature. Rising from an emergency meeting on Wednesday, the council, in a press statement by its Chairman, Prof. Tunde Oluwasanmi, and the Chairman, Committee for the creation of Ekiti State, Chief Deji Fasuan, lamented the crisis rocking the state. “Let us forgive our oppressors, nobody is a complete angel. Let us accept our inadequacies and beg ourselves. There is a legal government in Ekiti. Both parties must operate from purity of minds,” Fasuan said. Fayose promised to remain loyal to Jonathan and be his last man standing even if all Nigerians deserted him. He stated, “I wish to declare unequivocally that I remain loyal to President Jonathan even after May 29 as my support for his re-election and administration was not about bread-and-butter. “I was convinced he was moving Nigeria in the right direction, despite all the noise. I have no regrets supporting him. If same situation presents itself again, I would do it all over. “Let me state it clearly that if President Jonathan is deserted by all Nigerians today, I, Ayodele Fayose, will remain with him. I have chosen to be his last-man standing. The governor added, “It is ironic that those who said worse things about the President-elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) when they were in opposing parties, are the ones milling around him today, using him as an electoral talisman and demonising us for saying things of lesser magnitude during a campaign that was mainly characterised by hate-messages from both divides. “I also want to put it on record that if all PDP members decamp to APC today, I will remain the last-man standing for the party, even as I have no cause to denigrate the office of the president. “I also promise APC a robust and engaging opposition both in the South-West and nationally, with me playing a prominent role.” Source: www.punchng.com/news/fayose-vows-to-lead-opposition-against-apc/?hootPostID=ba7b1afd23e01a1eb868dbb97ca0db4b |

Bigsteveg:Lie! Fayose NEVER joined Acn. He only helped their candidate Fayemi to emerge. |
Apc knows that with Fayose as Governor in Ekiti, Southwest states will be won back by Pdp in the nearest future, hence the impeachment brouhaha. One thing is sure, Fayose is a polical genius and perhaps one the the few that can match Tinubu man to man in the politics. |
modath:Ok. Oba Akiolu is now Pdp spokesman now shey? |
No offence pls, just wanna know |
