The 10 most expensive hotel suites in the world Ever wonder how the other half lives? Word is, they live quite nicely — and travel even better, plopping down bundles of cash a night at some of the world’s top hotels. “When it comes to luxury,” says Jack Bloch, president and CEO of JB’s World Travel Consultants in New York, “it’s only getting more luxurious.” Take the Peninsula Paris, which is upping the ante with three “themed” suites this fall as part of a $576 million renovation. The largest of them, the Peninsula Suite, is primed to deliver the royal treatment — 24-hour butler service, on-hand massage, access to an underground spa, a 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom — for $33,500 per night. “It’s not so much about the suite — it’s about the lifestyle it offers,” says Jack Ezon, president of Ovation Vacations in New York. He’s talking full-on champagne wishes and caviar dreams. “It’s about the service and staff and what they can get you at a moment’s notice. You want to go to the Chanel show in Paris? It’s that kind of access you get.” Here’s what a billionaire’s bank account can get you in 10 of the world’s most expensive hotel suites. Presidential Suite at the St. Regis, New York City Price per night: $35,000 Photo: Bruce Buck Once the home of Salvador Dali during the ’60s and ’70s, this iconic hotel features a five-star suite that’s unrivaled among most other luxury accommodations. This 3,430-square-foot space includes two bedrooms, a state-of-the-art kitchen, a classic wood-paneled library, jaw-dropping views of Central Park, 24-hour English butler service, and use of the hotel’s Bentley Mulsanne. Hilltop Estate at Laucala Island Resort, Fiji Price per night: $40,000 Red Bull billionaire Dietrick Mateschitz purchased this private residence from media mogul Malcolm Forbes and turned it into a resort with 25 superluxe villas with every A-list essential one can imagine: a horse-riding school, a 72-hole golf course, a Pilates studio, and a spa that makes its own skin-care products using pressed coconuts from the island. Mateschitz maintains a private pagoda-style villa, nestled on top of the island, that can be rented when vacant — via application and referral only. It comes with a private chef, a nanny, a housekeeper, cleaning services, and panoramic views of Fiji. Royal Suite at Hôtel Plaza Athénée, Paris Price per night: $40,000 Photo: de Laubier Marie-José Pommereau, the famed interior designer and co-founder of the French edition of Architectural Digest, completely renovated the Royal Suite two years ago. Now, the largest hotel room in Paris features décor from the 18th-century Régence period paired with modern amenities. The three-bedroom suite features mirrors that conceal TVs, a steam room with a Jacuzzi, and three luxurious living rooms. The Apartment at the Connaught, London Price per night: $23,500 Photo: Damian Russell Designed by famed interior decorator David Collins, The Apartment is London’s most prestigious hotel suite. The bone-and-blue-hued space is basically a private penthouse for those with discerning style. In addition to round-the-clock butler service, a barman who keeps Krug champagne on ice, and a personal chauffeur, the concierge takes hospitality to the next level. For instance, one guest wanted to cook his wife her favorite meal, so a Michelin-starred chef was brought in — via a secret door — to assist. Penthouse Suite at Cannes Hôtel Martinez, France Price per night: $37,000 Photo: Hugues Lagarde A Saudi sheikh loved this suite so much that he wanted to rent it for five years. The reason? Luxury has no limits here. The only hotel room to have a terraced penthouse on the Côte d’Azur, it offers views of the Lérins Islands and Cannes Bay that not many get to see. But the view is only made better with the private butler, the on-call car, the Art Deco-inspired silk furniture, and the five-star food. Royal Penthouse Suite at Hotel President Wilson |
The most valuable substances on earth tend to be expensive because of their rarity or because of the difficulty in producing them. However, some materials have an inflated value because of the criminal risk involved in buying and selling these items. Over time, the worth of expensive substances regularly changes as the availability of rare materials increases, or the desire for them decreases. Elements like helium are relatively inexpensive, but as the world’s supply eventually dwindles as it’s predicted to, this elemental gas may experience a surge in market value. Currently, the list of the most expensive materials on earth are dominated by rare earth elements such as platinum, precious gems like diamonds, illicit drugs and advanced materials that are dangerous and hard to produce. All of these substances share a common thread of being high in demand and low in supply – except for those outliers which have been declared illegal in most countries on the planet. 15. Gold – $56 per gram Although the price and value of gold does fluctuate quite significantly according to markets, this element has been prized for thousands of years as a symbol of wealth and prosperity. In addition to acting as a form of currency, gold is found in a wide variety of jewelry, art and decorations. As an inert heavy metal with excellent conductivity, gold is also used in a wide variety of electronics, even providing a coating for satellites in space. Medical uses include dental implants and wires as well as treating arthritis and even cancer. 14. Rhodium – $58 per gram Nearly 60% of all rhodium is found in South Africa. A silver-white material that’s a member of the platinum group of metals, this element is less dense and more resistant to heat than platinum while featuring excellent durability, hardness and reflectance. As a result, this element, sometimes referred to as “white gold”, can be found in jewelry, aircraft engines, search lights and processes that manufacture acids and organics. Part of the reason rhodium has a high price is due to interruptions in Russian supplies during the late 90s. 13. Platinum – $60 per gram Platinum is another attractive silver-white metal that has many uses due to its flexibility. Similar to rhodium and gold, platinum is used in jewelry, engines, chemical reactions, wiring, dentistry and electrodes. Platinum resists oxidizing in air and doesn’t melt in hydrochloric or nitric acid. This element was rediscovered in 1735 after being used as far back as 1200 B.C in Egyptian jewelry. 12. Methamphetamine – $100 per gram As the illegal substance that helped drive the plot of Breaking Bad, methamphetamines are some of the most addictive substances in the world, resulting in serious health problems for hundreds of thousands of people in North America. The drug’s ability to rapidly release dopamine in the brain causes side effects such as violent behavior, psychosis, paranoia, anxiety, sleep deprivation and intense mood swings. Sadly, extreme addiction can also result in “meth face” and death. 11. Rhino Horn – $110 per gram A cure to cancer and hangovers are just a couple of the largely unfounded claims of the benefits of this material. It’s powdered rhino horn is considered a valuable resource in some countries in Asia. Traditional Chinese medicine also makes use of the powder, although having an intact rhino horn is considered a great way to display conspicuous wealth, considering the relative cost and scarcity of the product. 10. Heroin – $130 per gram Currently, almost 80% of all opium that’s used in heroin is sourced in Afghanistan. During the 1990s, Latin America was the biggest source of the drug in the United States. Heroin travels directly to the brain, transforms into morphine and seeks opioid receptors responsible for breathing and other automatic cognitive processes necessary for life. Due to its euphoria-inducing qualities, heroin is one of the most addictive and destructive drugs in the world. 9. Cocaine – $215 per gram Another incredibly addictive and expensive stimulant is cocaine, which is derived mostly in South America from the coca leaf. Part of the value of pure cocaine is the ability to make incredible amounts of profit by cutting it with cheaper substances or freebasing the raw material, turning it into crack cocaine. Due to the short length of the effects of cocaine, addicted users often binge in order to avoid experiencing the negative side effects. 8. Lysergic Acid Diethylamide – $3,000 per gram More commonly known as acid or LSD, lysergic acid diethylamide was discovered by Albert Hoffman in Switzerland in 1938 while attempting to create a substance useful as a psychological remedy. Instead, counter culture gurus such as Timothy Leary suggested that people try it as a method to expand consciousness, resulting in the drug becoming wildly popular in the 1960s. LSD creates powerful hallucinations and can result in a dangerous trip that results in psychological problems as well as serious physical injuries. 7. Plutonium – $4,000 per gram Plutonium is derived from uranium that has been used in nuclear reactions. This element rarely comes into existence through natural processes. Nuclear power plants often use the plutonium from uranium reactions to continue the nuclear process, resulting in more than one-third of nuclear fission energy. 6 Painite – $9,000 per gram First discovered in Burma during the 1950s, painite is a rare mineral that features a pinkish, reddish or brown hue. Once known as the rarest mineral in the world, very few specimens of painite exist. Recent discoveries in the Mogok area of Myanmar, however, promise to result in an eventual reduction in its scarcity. 5. Taaffeite Stone – $20,000 per gram Taaffeite stone is another incredibly rare gemstone only recently identified by collectors. The attractive colors of this rare material range from red to purple, although there are less than ten red taaffeite stones known to exist. The amount of taaffeite discovered would fill the volume of approximately half a cup. 4. Tritium – $30,000 per gram Tritium forms naturally when deuterium or nitrogen atoms are bombarded with cosmic radiation, resulting in a hydrogen nucleus with two additional neutrons. As a radioactive form of hydrogen, tritium produces a glow that’s useful for self-lit exit signs, gun sights and other illuminated products such as watches. 3. Diamond – $55,000 per gram Long-prized for their beauty and value, diamonds are the most expensive gemstone despite the fact that they’re not the rarest on earth. Diamonds form deep under the earth’s crust through intense pressure and heat, which transform carbon molecules into the hardest gem on earth. Some diamonds have been dated as far back as 3.2 billion years. The high value of diamonds is, of course, a contentious issue as the resource has been known to be exploited. The mineral is commonly found in certain war-torn areas of Africa, where ‘blood diamonds’ can be used as bartering material for illegal weaponry. 2. Californium – $27 million per gram Discovered in California in 1950, Californium is a rare earth metal that doesn’t occur naturally on the planet. Highly radioactive, one microgram of Californium releases up to 170 million neutron particles every minute, making it extremely toxic to most organic life. Uses of this element include detection of gold, platinum and moisture gauges for oil wells. 1. Antimatter– $6.25 trillion per gram By far the most expensive substance on earth is antimatter, which requires some of the most advanced technology available, such as CERN, in order to create small amounts that are enough for physicists to study. Many people were introduced to the idea of antimatter through science fiction due to its incredibly destructive properties when mixed with regular matter |

• EXPOSING THE FRAUD CALLED BUHARI!!! - Mike Odeholonta If General Buhari after being a former Military Sole Administrator of a State, Former Commissioner of Petroleum (the same as a Minister), Former GOC Jos Armoured Division, Former Maximum Military Dictator and Former PTF Executive Chairman (he got a commitment of non interference from Abacha) would claim he cannot pay his Abuja house rent, has only one million Naira in his bank account and borrowed money to buy his APC Presidential form, then he has to answer the following: In a Sun Newspaper interview of December 24, 2012, Buhari agreed that he had four houses: One duplex in Kaduna, one duplex in Daura, one duplex in Abuja and another duplex in Lagos but with the caveat that he borrowed money from his bank to build the houses. Okay Sir, how did you pay back the loans? What collateral did you use to secure the loans? Why go rent a duplex in ASOKORO when you own a house there? Who is staying in the house you own? I know the Federal government gives you cars as a former Head of State, gives you welfare packages for medical expenses and others annually and the sum is paid quarterly starting from 2005 when the total annual welfare budgeted was N140 million, 2006 - N105 million, 2008 - N24 million, 2010 - N250 million Naira (none was paid in 2007 & 2009) and from 2013 it was increased with each ex leader getting N23 million monthly. Now Sir, with all these money, how come you have only N1 million Naira in your account? Are you a spendthrift Sir? Why have you not open an investment or Foundation that will employ at least 20 Nigerians? Sir, you once said General Abacha never stole! Sir, do you define stealing along ethno-religious lines? The questions are plethora but your e-Voltrons can start answering these ones first. We will do it in stages. - Mike Odeholonta |

1. Thou shall not date any guy out of sympathy. It is not worth it. It has never worth the pain. Ladies beware! 2. Thou shall not do revenge relationship a.k.a let me show my boyfriend I can flirt too. Ladies, that is inflicting more injuries on yourself 3. Thou shall not depend on any man for your daily needs. It has brought more pains than joy to some ladies. Ladies, please! 4. Thou shall never fight over a man. Such men usually don’t have regard for ladies. Ladies, you can ask around if you are in doubt! 5. Thou shall not remain in a violent relationship. You are supposed to be his sweetheart not a punching bag. If he’s looking for whom to punch, refer him to Mike Tyson. Ladies, abi? 6. Thou shall not give IT to him. If he wants IT that desperately, he should put a ring on it. Funny enough, men can wait if they see your worth it. True! 7. Be bold when men toast you. Stop cutting flowers or drawing circles with your leg. Enjoy the ‘toasting’. Don’t forget to pay attention to the pick up lines. Some pick up lines can crack your ribs. 8. If you are not sure of your man especially if the relationship is still new, never take your girlfriend to his house or give her his number or BB pin. Odikwa very risky! 9. As soon as you can, let your man show his face to your people. Your sister or brother or mother. This is very key. 10. Material possessions are good but never let them be the number one factor in choosing a man. 11. Do not forget the golden rule. Always sit like a woman. Some men act like babies when a woman is not properly seated. You know what I mean! 12. Never think you can trap a man with good sex. Fou fou fou… foul! It is an aberration. 13. Be good to men but be firm. Yes firm but don’t scare them away. 14. Men are not in short supply. Don’t let them deceive you. Don’t believe anything in the contrary. Don’t be stampeded into a relationship. 15. If your purpose for financing a man is to keep him, that could be a big mistake. Finance for the right reasons. 16. Men are not the same. Don’t listen to “men are the same jare!” It’s a lie! How many men have you met out of about six billion people on earth? You see am nau, abi? 17. Adventures can be sweet. However, never embark on a long trip to meet a man without informing someone. Never! 18. Guys have a way of saying “don’t let anybody know about us yet.” If the relationship is up to three months and counting, somebody should know about it jor! Better things, they no dey hide am. 19. They say good girls love bad boys. And as a good girl, you are looking for a bad boy to love? OYO for you! Let bad girls love bad boys and good girls love good boys. Nobody should use your head to catch a bullet. 20. Enjoy being single. It does not last forever. |
THE world woke up yesterday to hear the shocking news of the death of world-renowned televangelist, Dr. Myles Munroe, his wife, Ruth and their daughter, Charisa in a plane crash close to his hometown. The Munroes and six others died as their plane flew low and was mangled in a crane in Grand Bahama Ship Yard, Bahamas. Born on April 20, 1954 in Nassau, Bahamas, Dr. Munroe until his tragic death on Sunday, was the president and founder of the Bahamas Faith Ministries International (BFMI) and Myles Munroe International (MMI), a Christian growth and resource centre. He was chief executive officer and chairman of the board of the International Third World Leaders Association and president of the International Leadership Training Institute. Myles Munroe was born in Nassau, Bahamas in 1954 and had been a lifetime resident of the Bahamas. His wife, Ruth was co-pastor at BFMI. He had a son Chairo and daughter, Charisa and said his family is his greatest responsibility and his marriage, his most sacred trust. Dr. Munroe travelled throughout the world as a speaker, addressing government leaders, businesses, schools/universities and church congregations. He once said, “My vision, is wrapped up in one statement: I exist to transform followers into leaders. My philosophy is trapped in every follower is a leader. My belief is, if that person is placed in the right environment, the leader will manifest himself or herself.” Myles Munroe was the author or co-author of over 100 books, study guides, and audio tapes currently in print, and he is a contributing writer for various Bible editions, journals, magazines, and newsletters, such as The Believer’s Topical Bible. The African Cultural Heritage Topical Bible, Charisma Life Christian Magazine, and Ministries Today. His works cover Christian interpretations of the Kingdom of God as well as guidance on love, sex, family relationships, and finances. The first reaction to the tragic incidence came from the Bahamian Ministry of Tourism who joined the nation and the world in mourning the untimely death of Dr. Myles Munroe and his wife, Pastor Ruth Munroe who worked closely with her husband in the ministry. This week, Dr. Munroe was to host the 2014 Global Leadership Summit in Grand Bahama Island, in a bid to bring thousands of people to the nation’s second city. National president of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor who played host to Dr. Munroe two years ago during Jubilee Word Festival 2012, expressed shock, saying that he didn’t believe the initial story when he was woke yesterday morning with the news. Pastor Oritsejafor said that Dr. Munroe was billed to be part of this year’s Jubilee Word Festival but he declined because of the 2014 Global Leadership Forum which was scheduled to begin yesterday and end on November 13. Munroe and his wife recently returned from a three-week tour of eight east African nations. According to the CAN president who quietly marked his birthday yesterday, the passage of Dr. Munroe is a big blow to the Church Universal, but it also reminds all those who are still alive to get ready at all time because nobody knows when he or she will be called. “We must learn to live our lives each day. There should be no procrastination, we must live right at all times because no one knows when the bell shall sound. Dr. Munroe’s deaths created a vacuum in Christendom, but the Owner of the Vineyard is able to fill the vacuum. My heart goes to the family, the son and other relations Dr. Munroe has left behind,” he stated. Spiritual leader of Saint Joseph’s Chosen Church of God, SJCCG, Apostle Hayford Alile in a telephone interview yesterday expressed shock at the news of Dr. Munroe who was the speaker at his church special event in 2009, Nigeria, a new beginning. “It was very shocking. All I can say for now is that the Master who sent him to the world knows it was time for him to come back home. In every circumstances that we find ourselves we must give glory to God who knows everything,” he stated. May their souls rest in peace (Amen) |
THE Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), on Thursday, warned prospective candidates in the forthcoming Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in Nasarawa State, to stop registering at cyber-cafes, saying majority of the operators are fraudulent. It, therefore, announced Federal University, Lafia; Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa; as well as Biham University, Karu and Ejade Computer Training Institute, New-Nyanya ,as four approved computer- based centres in the state for 2014 UTME. The administrative officer in charge of the board in the state, Shehu Salihu, who stated this in Lafia, then warned the operators of the cyber-cafes in the state, who had made fraud their daily routine to, henceforth, desist from such act or face the music. According to him, “any candidate, who defies this warning and registers at cyber-cafés, must be ready to face the consequence. I, therefore, call on all the prospective candidates not to register in any cyber cafe in order to ensure the genuineness of their registration and avoid problems.” Salihu, who explained that the 2015 UTME examination would purely be computer-based, said that the board was working in collaboration with security agencies with a view to curtailing the unapproved activities of cyber- cafes in the state. He said the board had introduced new innovation into the system and under the new arrangement, special candidates such as visually impaired would be given five hours as against three hours during the their examinations. The Nigerian Tribune observed a large crowd of prospective candidates struggling to register at the JAMB office in Lafia. One of the candidates, Abdul Musa, who spoke with our Correspondent lamented that the action of JAMB to be registering in four designated centers might not work out because of number of candidates, seeking admission into tertiary institutions annually. |

You can call it subtle enmity, if you like. But the truth remains that some of our leading pastors are not the best of friends. As a matter of fact while some have been hiding theirs for years, there are those that even up till now cannot stand each other. Not only do they not talk, they readily abuse themselves whenever time permits. Come with us, and let us unmask these preachers of the word as well as serve you the genesis of all their quarrel. CHRIS OYAKHILOME / T.B JOSHUA AND CHRIS OKOTIE: We doubt whether there’s been any war like theirs in Christendom. Hugging the covers of nearly all the major papers in the country for weeks, even the Nigerian police, Pentecostal fellowship of Nigeria and Christian association of Nigeria had to wade in at some point. Okotie, founder of household of God church, accused his next door neighbour, Oyakhilome, of Christ embassy, of hobnobbing with Joshua, whom he described as a shamman, thus, contaminating the Body of Christ. And hell was literally let loose. Other men of God took sides and the war raged and raged. Till today, Okotie and Oyakhilome don’t relate. Likewise Okotie and Joshua, front man of synagogue church of all nations. CHRIS OKOTIE/ANSLEM MADUBUKO: Their disagreement then shocked a lot of people. Do you know why? Both of them used to be so close. They attended the same University of Nigeria, Nsukka where the fire of their friendship was ignited; were each other’s ‘best man’ and so on. Even when Okotie was reigning as a pop star, madubuko was backing him up from a corner as a D.J. With the coming of household of God church, Okotie put Madubuko in charge of the healing ministry. Then, one day, one unforgettable day, he ordered madubuko out of the church – with a stern warning never to step into the church again. Of course, things ceased to be the same again for the two former close friends – even though, lately they’ve been trying to patch it up. DAVID OYEDEPO/TUNDE BAKARE: Hate him, like him, Pastor Tunde Bakare does not care. One other noticeable thing about him is that there is nobody he cannot chastise in the body of Christ or take on, one on one. Obviously the Pentecostal radical, Bakare is not a supporter of some of the things they do Oyedepo winners chapel – for example, anointing oil, handkerchief and so on – and repeatedly, he has criticized that. Even though Oyedepo has never responded to his criticisms, it should be expected that he wouldn’t be happy with him. Bakare pastors the latter rain assembly while Oyedepo is the G.O of winners’ chapel. PATRICK ANWUZIA/JOSEPH AGBOLI Anwuzia and Agboli are brothers. They both come from Delta state and used to have a very chummy relationship until a wedge of asunder was put in between them. Like Adeyemi and Adegboyega, Agboli used to work for Anwuzia. But upon deciding to run with his destiny, palaver started – and till today, it still hasn’t been properly sorted out. Anwuzia started Zoe Ministries while Agboli is behind Victorious Army Ministries SAM ADEYEMI/GEORGE ADEGBOYEGA Adeyemi pastors Daystar Christian centre while Adegboyega is in charge of Rhema Chapel International. Before now, however, the former used to work for the latter. In fact, he was in charge of the latter’s Lagos branch and until he exited the ministry, both of them had a fantastic relationship. The rythm of the music only changed when Adeyemi said he wanted to be on his own. And till date, the relationship hasn’t been restored to its former state – owing majorly to how some issues were handled at the thick of the crisis. |
