I had a similar issue sometime ago. The car wasn't accelerating. Without a scan, I detected the fault by visual examination of the engine: the flexible plastic connecting the air filter housing on top of the engine was broken underneath. This caused air to be leaking. I changed the plastic tube and the acceleration issue was resolved. The mechanic said I was lucky to have detected it - sometimes this hidden fault may remain undetected and you'll just be wasting money changing other parts without resolving the issue. That said, lexus es 300 is a very reliable car, very comfortable and rugged.
