Agriculture › Palm Kernel Oil Production Using Steam Energy As Source Of Power by muller101(op): 6:54pm On Jul 24, 2016*. Modified: 7:46pm On Jul 24, 2016 |
Palm kernel oil which is extracted from the nut or kernel of a species of african palm tree is commonly referred to as tropical oil. The oil can be found in a number of products including margarine, vegetable oil, etc. And it is completely free of cholesterol. It can also be used in manufacture of soaps, washing powders, body cream, chocolate. Etc. Operational procedure. Step 1
Deposit fibre or empty bunches from the palm, Into a boiler. Water should then be pumped into the boiler's tubes before setting the energy source on fire. When pressure increased to 150psi on the boiler's psi meter. Then the steam valves can then be opened to allow flow of steam into the steam engine. Step 2 Dry steam is being channelled into the 20hp single cylinder steam engine. That will power a 15kva alternator. Which in turn generates power to propel the 12.5kva electric motor attached to the expeller. Step 3 Power on the expeller and then feed kernel seed into the mill's kettle. Open the valves on the kettle to send in steam that will heat up the seeds inside the kettle for proper extraction of oil.
Step 4 Allow the seed to cook for 30minutes. Proper cooked seeds will tend to burn your palms when testing it. Thereby giving you assurance that seeds are ready to be crushed for oil extraction. At this point you open the kettle's window to allow seeds fall into the crushing chamber.
Step 5
Oil is produced through the action of rotating worms pressing the hot seeds together in the crushing chamber. Oil will then drip out through the spaces provides on the pressure cage. Note the oil dripping off is not filtered yet. So a filter is placed on top of the oil tank for the first stage of filtration.
Step 6. 100kg bag of kernel seeds can be crushed under 1hour 30minutes. when you are through in crushing the seed. You can use a rotary pump to force the oil from the tank into a filter press for final filtration of the oil before it can be stored. The cake obtained during crushing is being used for the production of animal feeds.
Using the alternative source of energy for production is highly cheaper. From this simple break down. Using a 3 cylinder perkins diesel engine to power the mill, can consume 1.5 litres of diesel per hour. Let's say you work for 12hours that will be 1.5litres multiplied by 12hours of operation. That's 18litres of diesel consumed. 1litre of diesel is #200 multiply by 18litres that's #3600. Hence with steam technology you can save up to #3600 by just burning waste to generate power for your mill.
